Highlights a wide range of adoptees, a few that are not usually mentioned. It has just the right amount of information. It could have benefited from using more than 8 people and possibly an introduction or further info section. I didn’t realize this was a board book until I went to post my review on Goodreads. Knowing that, the short length and lack of intro makes sense.

This little book contains eight, very small adoption stories of people who changed the world in different ways. This book is perfect to read to little kids who are adopted.
The stories are very small so it’s just a small snippet of each person’s adoption story. It’s perfect for small children.
I graciously received an advance e-copy via Netgalley to review. All opinions are my own.

As a parent who has a child adopted from foster care I was really excited to see this book. When our daughter first came home to us as a toddler, I looked for books that we could read as a family that highlighted adoption, foster care, or even just the different ways a family can look. While I found some gems, there are still very few well written books on the topic.

I appreciated that Ms. Benson highlighted people of a variety of races, genders, and styles of adoption. I also appreciated the inclusion of both historical figures and current figures in media and sports.

I always am mindful of how books on adoption talk about birth families and I was happy to see that in general this book speaks well of them; highlighting age and a lack of readiness for parenting with a compassionate tone.

I think Adoptees Who Changed the World is a book that will fit well in the market and help fill gaps in available resources for adoptive families.

Thank you NetGalley and Families for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I decided to check this out because adoption is such a big part of my family and I’m so glad I did.

This book briefly introduces young readers to eight different influential people who are adoptees. It shows off a range of areas adoptees have succeeded in, something that would definitely benefit an adopted child. The illustrations are beautiful and draw you into each story while the text is simple and easy for children to understand. In order to remain age appropriate some information is obviously omitted. That felt questionable at times but it does give parents an opening to explain concepts as they see fit.

I downloaded this title because it felt near and dear to my heart. As an adopted woman, I sometimes struggle to express my experiences growing up. I was adopted by a family that desperately wanted a child and have been grateful every single day of my life. This book instantly caught my eye and I learned so much about a variety of people who like me are adopted. I wish this were longer and explored more stories of adopted children.

This is a great book for children highlighting a wide range of different historical and impactful figures. I really appreciated the diversity of background, culture and area of impact/expertise. I love the idea of stories focused specifically on kids who were adopted - giving that group of children very tangible examples of people who have a similar starting point as themselves.

The illustrations are excellent - and really help to bring the text of the story to life. The text that the book uses isn't too heavy or too much - but instead succinctly illustrates key points of the characters adoption scenario and also their contributions to their given field. Overall a great children's book!

I was so excited when I first saw this book. I wanted to like it so much! Unfortunately some of these choices and the wording really threw me off.

The very first person was George Washington Carver and it mentions he was adopted after being rescued from kidnappers. He was raised by his family’s slave owners who did find him after he was kidnapped, but because he was their slave. This is right away a very poor choice to include. I also thought Steve Jobs was a bit of a surprising pick because he is both an adoptee and birth parent.

Some of the entries were fine, but overall I just didn’t like the write ups. I do really like the idea behind the book though, so I still would consider getting it just for the representation.

As someone who was adopted around age 6, this book really hit home. It would have been amazing to have someone to relate to at that age. I’m so excited and happy that children who are adopted can have a book that represents them & they can know that they aren’t alone.

Well done! Actually I wanted more of this amazing board book!

The book is about popular personalities who were adopted by great people leading to their success and prosperity.

The illustration is really good and the writing perfect for the target audience.

Brings out the good in all of us!

Thank you, Familius, for the ARC.

I honestly did not know that most of these people were adoptees. This book had a nice mix of different kinds of success stories (artists, comedians, politicians, entrepreneurs) spanning over different time periods. I really enjoyed reading these short introductions to impressive figures. I think the illustrations were really well done. I can imagine using this in my future classroom.
