I really like the cover of this book! I unfortunately wasn’t a fan of the book. It moves rather slow and the characters feel older than they probably were.
The window decorations sounded pretty and the bookshop is nice. I was hoping for a more Christmasy book
What a lovely festive read and to catch up with the story of the little bookshop and of course Florrie and Ed. I love a book where you can imagine the area that the story is set in and with this story my mind was working overtime trying to match the areas within the book as I have family in Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. I know anyone who reads this book will love it and fingers crossed there will be a chance to catch up with all the friends and the Happy Hartes Book shop in Micklewick Bay again soon.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and Publisher Storm Publishing for the early read.
I think this book might be the epitome of heartwarming. Such a lovely idea, that Florrie is creating Christmas memories for her beloved Ed, that he missed out on as a child.
This book is about love, loyalty, friendship and working together.
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Micklewick Bay and will definitely be returning.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the Storm Publishing for the chance to read.
This is a charming book, set in the Yorkshire seaside town of Micklewick Bay. Florrie and Ed, Joint owners on the Happy Harte Bookshop are in full preparation for the festive season with a fully decorated shop and stunning window scenes. All is well until the return of Dodgy Dick who wants to buy the shop and is in full swing bullying his way into doing so with a campaign of dirty tricks and downright intimidations. Despite this Florrie with the support of her girlfriends is pursuing the Happy Memories Christmas Project, a series of decidedly Christmassy events to give Ed the Christmas memories he so much missed out on as a child.
With the exception of Dodgy Dick and his equally dodgy wife Wendy, this is a book of lovely heart warming characters who you would ,love to spend a night at the pub with. With some very Christmassy events, this is perfect book to snuggle up with in front of the fire and get you in the mood for the festive season. The only downside for me was it finished quite abruptly and I wanted to read more about Ed and Florrie’s Christmas
This book had such a cozy Christmasy atmosphere to it and felt so festive and loved how it portrayed books and their importance!
Definitely never seen such a unique concept for a book. The dog was definitely my favorite in this book! This story was very heartwarming and fun to read!
This was such a cute Christmas read full of books, love and descriptive moments. Florrie has a lovely bookshop in the small village, but there is someone not wanting it there anywhere. The local business man wants the building, but Florrie and Ed are not wanting to part with it.
The characters are really easy to read about, the pages flow together with a lovely storyline. It is very well written and a great book to read in the weeks coming up to Christmas.
A lovely 5 star read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
This book drew me in on the first page. The author manages to paint scenes vividly and beautifully. It’s charming and full of Christmas coziness. There’s a little bit of drama and a slight bit of mystery thrown in to spice things up a bit. If you are looking for a wholesome, heartwarming, and festive Christmas story, I suggest Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea. Despite being part of a series (#4), it reads well as a quaint standalone holiday book.
Christmas at the Little Bookshop by Eliza J. Scott is a delightful holiday tale filled with the enchantment of bookstores and Christmas. This charming and heartwarming story captivated me from start to finish. It was my first experience reading a novel by Eliza J. Scott, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was the fourth book in a series. While I found it enjoyable as a standalone, I couldn't help but feel a bit lost due to the numerous characters and their intricate backstories, particularly those of Florrie and Ed, the main characters. As someone who values character development throughout a series, I wished I had more insight into their histories. However, if you prefer a lighter approach to character development, this book is a perfect choice for a cozy, snowy day read. Despite my initial reservations, I still adored the story and the charming setting of the Happy Hartes Bookstore and the quaint town of Micklewick Bay.
I thought this would scratch that Jenny Colgan itch, but it’s even more saccharine than those books. Oftentimes with series like these you can jump
In anywhere, and while the author did a good job of trying to catch the reader up, there’s too much history to the story to jump in here. This was not for me but for someone who enjoys a more Donna Reed style book, this may be for you.
Absolutely loved this cosy Christmas read. Feel good cosy read was needed and I definitely recommend this for the Christmas season
Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for an arc. A lovely little festive romance with a mystery thrown in set in a beautiful book shop. It's a heartwarming story. Definitely one to read with some hot chocolate, spiced cookies and an open fire.
A lovely festive read. The perfect setting, a close group of friends and the making of Christmas memories - should be read next to a crackling fire while drinking hot chocolate!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Christmas at the Little Bookshop by the Sea by Eliza J. Scott is a cosy holiday story but it's not just sweet and cheesy, a lot is going on there.
I love how this story revolves around the beauty of books with a Christmas spark.
The cutest thing in this book was the Happy Christmas Memory Project! Adorable! So sweet!
As Ed never had a good Christmas experience, Florrie has a great idea of how to create positive Christmas memories for him! Meanwhile, they running a bookshop and it's Christmas time and so much is happening!
It's a nice Christmas read for sure!
Thank you, NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this copy!
What a lovely read.y only criticism I didn't save it to read in the festive season
Thank you for the opportunity to review
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Where to start on this. It had great potential. Christmas, a bookshop, and romance? It should be a cozy read, right?
In my honest opinion, it felt disconnected and boring. The main characters, Florrie and Ed, have terrible communication, but it's played off as if it's normal. Instead of asking her boyfriend of 18 months to talk to her, she bottles it in and just accepts his silence on things. While one of them was a surprise for her, the rest should have been discussed as adults. It made her seem meek and childlike, instead of an adult.
The plot did not keep me interested. In fact, it took me a couple of weeks to finish this book, as it was so slow paced, and too long for what it is. The author could have trimmed out a lot of this, and made it more palatable.
The other problem I had with this book was the over use of words. "I reckon" and "anyroad" was entirely way over done. There are so many different expressions that could be used in place of those, yet it was the same thing every page. One page, I counted "I reckon" three different times!
Overall, it could be a cute Christmas story if it was reworked, and more thought put into it. The way it is now, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
A very nice, cosy Christmas story with Florrie and Ed, friends and family in Harte's bookshop, although a little bit over descriptive and a bit too sweet for me nevertheless a festive treat
This was such a cute and cozy story! This was my first Eliza J Scott novel and I didn't realize this was the 4th book in the series. Though I feel this was fine as a standalone there were a lot of characters and I am all about character development throughout series so I felt a little lost not knowing all the characters backstory. Especially Florrie and Ed being the main characters. If you aren't as detailed as or into character development as I am then this is an absolutely perfect cozy snowy day read. I still loved the story and the setting of the Happy Hartes Bookstore and the town of Micklewick Bay.
Florrie and Ed are such a cute couple and it was nice seeing the town and their friends/found family supporting their dreams. This was humorous, absolutely sweet and romantic, and so festive! I am for sure going back and starting the series from the beginning so I can fall in love with the series even more.
this is a sweet, quick read, that will put you in the Christmas spirit. I enjoyed the story very much; it was hard to put down.
This is a perfect holiday book to get you in the spirit for Christmas. It has all the pieces of a good "Hallmark" story - good friends, a love story, a little mystery, a lovable dog, and lots of holiday cheer. It's an easy quick read that is perfect around the busy holiday season.
This book is a solid 4 stars for a holiday book. It's a quick easy read that gets you in the holiday spirit, but it's not a book that you will remember for years to come.
This is part of a series, but I have not read any of the prior books and I don't feel like I was missing anything.
Thank you Storm Publishing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
In the charming seaside town of Micklewick Bay, Florrie Appleton and Ed Harte are gearing up for a magical Christmas at the Happy Hartes Bookshop. Florrie’s book-themed decorations and Ed’s fairytale-like window displays have everyone buzzing with excitement. But when Florrie gets a surprising call from Ed's father, she worries he’s hiding something. As she fills their days with festive treats and sleigh rides, Ed starts acting distant and then suddenly disappears right before Christmas. Is Florrie’s holiday dream about to shatter, or could a delightful surprise be waiting just around the corner? This heartwarming story is perfect for anyone who believes in the magic of the season.
