This creepy new thriller has similar vibes to Frieda McFadden. I read it in one sitting! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good distraction for the night.
A short, fast-paced and thrilling read with interesting characters and intriguing concept.
I was able to figure out pretty much all the twists so it wasn’t very shocking but it’s a great read that I recommend for a quick thriller.

I knew James Caine would deliver a fantastic read! I was not disappointed. This is a fast paced psychological thriller that will keep you intrigued the whole way through. There are many twists and turns in this book, which kept me on my toes & wanting to know more. Set on a secluded island, your husband gets a dream job as a plastic surgeon for millionaires … their privacy of the upmost importance. The way the island is run, starts messing with your mind, and makes the feeling of being watched overwhelming. Paranoia starts to set in, when you know you are being watched by security camera, can you really trust they are there for your safety? What is actually going on here? Is it all in her head, or is she really experiencing the things she has been seeing and hearing? And what happens when the most elite members of society are involved? Who can you trust? Buckle up, you are in for an exciting ride!
Very surprised how much I enjoyed this quick read.
The characters were great. The main character felt very human and real. The author done well to make you unsure what was real and what wasn’t.
The story doesn’t pull many twists and the ending felt quite rushed, however I would recommend this one to anyone who likes a fast paced, thriller.
Fast paced and thrilling, this is a real eye opener! Secluded, isolated and cold enough to send chills down your spine, Lily's husband accepts a job at a clinic on an island. Walls, guards and camera security for the prestigious clients results in privacy with a double edged sword, when Lily is exposed to tragic events it becomes an increasingly oppressive prison where the dream becomes a nightmare. Gripping and tense.
“A harrowing story of survival, exploitation and crimes committed by the richest and most powerful in our society.” This book was so fast paced, chilling and kept me at the edge of my seat. I didn’t want to stop reading! At first, I got haunting of hill house vibes that then turned into shutter island vibes. I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to check out more by this author. Special thanks to the author and publisher for this ARC copy!
I received an ARC copy of Keep the Doctor Away by James Caine from Netgalley!
A secluded island is a perfect setting for a psychological thriller to really portray the feelings of paranoia. Even when you know you are being watched by security camera, can you really trust they are there for your safety? What is actually going on here? Is it all in her head, or is she really experiencing the things she has been seeing and hearing? And what happens when the most elite members of society are involved? Who can you trust? These are some of the many questions I had running through my head as I was reading the book, and the answers did not disappoint!
Keep the Doctor Away is a very fast paced psychological thriller that will keep you intrigued the whole way through. There are many twists and turns in this book, and I was able to read it in one sitting. I never read a book by this author before, and I will definitely be checking out more of his work!
I love novels that involve secluded islands or cabins, so this book was a great read for me, as it really heightens the intensity of the feeling of there being no escape! I will absolutely be recommending to my family and friends!
Solid thriller m I enjoyed the first person narration. I found myself instantly invested. Unnerving premise in a good way.
This book had me shaking in my socks! The plot was not an original one, but that didn't matter. The reality of this story being entirely plausible is truly scary, and Caine did a great job terrifying me. It was intense and unputdownable! I always look forward to Caine's books. They're always quick, entertaining reads filled with lots of craziness, and this one did not disappoint. Highly recommend to thriller fans looking for a fun, quick read!

Lily and her husband David move to an island for David’s job. What appears to be a promising new job location for David soon turns out to be not what it seems. The people that work in this clinic are hiding a huge secret.
This is the first book that I’ve read by James Caine. He writes intriguing characters with a great story. This book is so good that I was able to finish it in 1 day.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Victory Editing for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The author has weaved a terrifying plot with a haunting atmosphere. The genre could be considered horror. The characters are unlikeable but the strange twists of the story more than make up for it.
This fast-paced thriller is reminiscent of the movie "Don't Worry Darling" with an unsettling suicide and a seemingly idyllic town where the wives have moved in for their husband's work at a mysterious facility. But that is also where the similarities end.
The book starts with a bang of a flashback that has you on the edge of your seat. Fast forward to the future where the main character is all grown up and moving to a remote island with her surgeon husband. Their lives should be perfect on this island, but the moment they set foot there, it seems as though nothing is as it should be. What follows next is a series of events that unfolds the true nature of this island.
The atmosphere of this book is unsettling, with the feeling that someone is always watching you. The chapters are rather short and it helps to make the book feel more fast paced too. It is a quick read and definitely something that can be enjoyable for someone looking for an easily digestible thriller.
Personally I found the book to be too predictable and the twists did not really feel much like a surprise, which felt a little bit like a letdown for me. There was so much unexplored potential with the main character's mental health past that could have been expanded upon. Still, it was a nice enough read so I am giving it a solid 3 stars. Not a bad book, just not quite for me. I think someone who is looking for a simple thriller and less mystery would like this a lot more!

The story begins with a haunting scene: Lily awakens to find her father dead, her mother in a frenzy, screaming about eyes watching her—eyes that no one else can see. The chaos escalates as the police arrive, and Lily watches in horror as they raise a gun at her unhinged mother.
Years later, Lily's husband, David, accepts a prestigious position as a surgeon at a luxury clinic on Northern Island, a secluded haven for the wealthy. But life on the island soon unravels, and Lily finds herself spiraling into a nightmare of unsettling events that force her to question her own sanity. The tension between Lily and the other characters adds a rich, psychological layer to the story, as she becomes increasingly paranoid about inheriting her mother’s mental illness.
This fast-paced thriller expertly weaves a chilling atmosphere that lingers long after the final page. The suspense builds relentlessly, and I found my fingers twitching, eager to turn the page and uncover the next twist. With its vivid storytelling and psychological depth, this book would make for an incredible movie adaptation. A quick, yet deeply satisfying read, it will grip you from the first page and keep you hooked until the nail-biting conclusion.
Thank you Netgalley for this advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very intense and captivating read complete with twists that had gripped and not wanting to put the book down.

Great book full of suspense & surprise. Once I started it, I couldn't stop! I knew something was going on, and the writer kept it hidden well! I didn't know what was going on until the twist was revealed. As a nurse, I love medical thrillers & this one did not disappoint at all. I will be reading more from this author as soon as possible!
This was an extremely tense read! The plot held my interest so well I read this in one sitting, not wanting to wait to find what happens to Lily. Fast paced and twisty, this is a great book.
Lily Parker is happily married to her surgeon husband, David. David has been offered a job as plastic surgeon at Northwind Clinic, a luxurious facility catering to the rich and famous where privacy is of paramount importance. The clinic is located on an island, with high walls all around the shoreline, security gates and cameras, and security guards working 24/7.
David accepts the job, he and Lily are given a beautiful house to live in, with access to a private beach, activities and restaurants, in other words, a perfect life to enjoy. However, their first evening on the island ends in tragedy, a young woman commits suicide by jumping from a balcony onto rocks below. Just before she jumps, she had whispered some words to Lily........"you shouldn't have come here". The longer Lily stays on the island, the more uncomfortable she becomes. Knowing things are not as they seem with the clinic, she determines to find at more and leave the island as soon as she can.
I read this book at one sitting, the plot kept me guessing at what would happen next. It is a real page turner, a book I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars.
A fun, fast paced read if you’re looking for a quick thrill!
