“I’m quite familiar with flesh.” He snatched her waist, pulling her closer. “I enjoy how it shivers, the taste of it, the burn of it against my own.” He leaned into her ear, and Tovi thanked the Goddess he held her waist to keep her stable. “But I prefer to be alone with whoever’s flesh I touch, lost in the darkness and shadows of the night where no one might hear the sounds I’m able to elicit.”
This one was even better than the first, it really delivered some of what I'd wanted after finishing the first - particularly the world building and becoming a much more complex plot.
The action and stakes was elevated, pulling it more into the fantasy realm and less of a paranormal murder mystery like the first book.
As expected, Evelyn & Kade getting together was so gratifying, but we also got invested in many other side plots to keep it interesting.
So many amazing new characters, it had all the found family vibes I just eat right up, and I am heavily invested in Tovi and Eldrick!! Eeek, what a delicious addition. Do I like Eldrick more than Kade?!?
Pls see quote above for Exhibit A of my reasoning
The multi POV kept the plot pacing along really well and I liked that the villain/antagonists were multi dimensional, with character growth added in so you could understand they weren't just power hungry assholes, but had a fusion of different motives driving them - was very refreshing.
Rating 4.5 stars.
I am obsessed yet utterly angry that I have to wait for book three to come out! In Darkness & Duty is too good not to talk about. Compared to Of Faith & Flame, In Darkness & Duty brings expanded character point of views that really added depth and perspective to the story. I am a character girlie and there is nothing that sucks me in more than strong character development and individualization. I never doubted who was who because C.C. Tyler is just so dang talented in writing each character as their own.
In Darkness & Duty is jam packed with action, bada** FMC energy. magic, and all the romance. I can't wait to read book #3!
In Darkness and Duty, Book 2 in the Prophecy of Sorin Trilogy picks up where Book 1, Of Faith and Flame leaves off.
Evelyn has been abducted. Kade is beside himself. Maxie is being a cat. Tovi isn’t quite what she seems.
In Duty and Darkness is reliably well written; a little slow-ish and introspective at times, but picks up with a punch as new characters flesh out their roles. The tone retains the “niceness” of Evelyn and Kades original book but the complexity has shifted and lifted. The addition of Machiavellian level intrigue and nasty characters helps elevate the story. There was more expanding upon the prophesy driving our couples, more secret identities, and really well written communication between couples when they really need to.
The inclusion of new POV voices adds difference and contrast. Tovi and Eldrick have a grittier less “spun in gold” perspective in all things. Their enemies to lovers plot line was nicely done. The introduction of the Grey Fenrirs pack and found family vibe adds a strong backbone for the conclusion of the trilogy to come.
In Darkness and Duty provided a solid next step in the The Prophecy of Sorin Trilogy.
With thanks to the author and NetGalley for a copy of the eARC to read ahead of publication. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved the first book and this book was a great continuation especially because where book one ended, this book picked up right where it ended. I loved how the POV changed but it did do it a lot but I still loved it. I can't wait for the last book in this trilogy to see how this ends.
This book was a great continuation from the first book! I loved that it jumped right in where it left off. The pov changes a lot so for those who aren’t used to that as much, it may take a bit to get into the book. I am used to multi pov so it was really easy for me to get into the book. I really enjoyed the world building as it wasn’t confusing to understand. The characters are all amazing and I just can’t choose a favorite!
I cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was excited to read this book after how the first ended, and it did not disappoint.
Still following the story of Evelyn and Kade, in this book, we get multi pov to include other characters. I found myself a bit slower than usual getting through the first part of the book. There was a lot of character pov changing, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. The details in the writing are still enchanting, and we suddenly discover a lot of the world outside of Callum, where most of book 1 was set.
As other characters are met and more unexpected relationships are formed, secrets are revealed, and news of a traitor amongst the wolves is discovered.
Once again, another great book in this trilogy, and I can't wait for the final book to see how this story all comes together in the end.
Thanks to netgalley for the arc of this book for my honest review. This will also be posted on amazon upon release.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)
It amused me all these big bad warriors were afraid of Maxie. The book and pacing moved right along for me up until Evelyn and Kade's spicy reunion. Idk why it just didn't hit for me. Loved the tension with the other couple though. [names redacted for spoilers]. Ended on a bit of a cliffhanger so curious where it'll go!
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for providing me with an e-ARC of this book!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, which kept me on the edge of my seat, but In Darkness & Duty takes things to a whole new level! This sequel introduces more characters, settings, and unexpected twists that kept me hooked from start to finish.
I particularly loved the new perspectives from Eldrick and Tovi, their chemistry was electric and captured my interest even more than Evelyn and Kade. The world-building and storytelling were vivid and immersive, I could see every detail in my mind as I read.
I'm definitely hoping for more of Tovi and Eldrick in the next installment. Already excited for book 3!
Oh my gosh! This book was better than the first! It kept me enthralled in the story, at first I wasn't sure I'd like the added character povs, but boy was I wrong. I actually really loved Tovi and Eldrick though he ticked me off more than I liked him I still loved them.
I really loved how everything was woven together as we got more and more answers. This book shocked me on more than 1 occasion. The last few chapters just WOW! I need the next book stat! I'm not sure if I'll recover from this one until I have the next one!
Oh and there's a bit more spice in this one ;)
This was absolutely so amazing to read
No notes -- Book 2 of the Prophecy of Sorin Trilogy is amazing!
We get two new POVs (Tovi and Eldrick), and I might have enjoyed those even more than Kade and Evelyn's.
I loved that the crew had new mysteries to unravel, and the stakes are even higher than in Book 1. There were some twists I did not see coming, and many more side characters were introduced (and I enjoyed all of them).
I am really looking forward to Book 3.
