I really, really loved this book. I’ve read so much enemies-to-lovers lately that having a rom-com where they fall for each other in a normal, mostly-drama-free way was a huge breath of fresh air. Not to mention, SO MANY CUTE PUPPIES. And who amongst us didn’t fangirl about a boy band member, at least a tiny bit, back in our awkward, dorky teen years?
Everything about this book was perfect for me, from the super sweet relationship, to the loveable small town, to the behind-the-scenes peek into band life. And did I mention all the cute puppies?!
✅ Elena (Laney), 26, veterinarian & Adam, runs a dog rescue. But surprise! Adam is also Deke Driscoll, former member of a popular boy band
✅ small town romance
✅ dual POV
🌶️: no, not even implied or hinted
Pure sugary fluff in the best way. As a teenager, Laney was infatuated with the boyband Midnight Rush, and specifically Deke. Since then, she's outgrown this (mostly) to become a vet with little to no social life. Adam wants nothing more than to run his rural dog rescue and stay out of the public eye after a few rough years as a teenage superstar. The vet he uses happens to be really cute, and him and Laney start to get close. But his past is catching up to him in the form of a reunion concert, and with a fake engagement, an evil agent, and old wounds being made fresh, their budding relationship is going to go through the gauntlet.
What is better than a big, muscled guy who's really good with animals? Adam is indeed a dreamy lead. Laney is cute, too. The whole thing is delightfully improbable and fun from start to finish.
As a HS librarian, I'm always on a lookout for smut-free romances that are perfect for our YA readers. This one fits the bill exactly. Boyband romance? Sign me up! Enjoyed this (a bit predictable, but hey, what romance isn't?) and I'm pretty sure our readers will, too. Happy to add this to our collection.
4.5 stars
You know when the guy you like suddenly starts showing interest in you, and you find out he’s a member of a famous band you loved? For Adam, music is still a sore spot, and when another band member asks for his help, he agrees despite his heavy feelings. It’s an intriguing story full of music, pain, guilt, friendship, furry pets, and love.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This may have been the most predictable romance I've read this year but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The author knows their target market and makes it clear they've done a lot of reading - or writing - of fan fiction in their time as it leans heavily into the most common of tropes.
Where the book fell short for me was on two parts:
[1] the band are described as being so wildly successful at their peak that we have no choice but to compare to One Direction. As such, a member of the band could have plastic surgery, put on 100 lbs of muscle or fat, grow their hair and grow a beard and a fan would be able to recognise them, so it seems so unbelievable to me that a beard and a few gym sessions renders Adam completely unrecognisable.
[2] the romance is incredibly rushed and, while that definitely appeals to a certain demographic, it was hard for me to enjoy it. The connection felt forced and more out of convenience than any real relationship.
Normally, I'm a huge fan of fake dating but this didn't actually play into that very much besides a few awkward conversations between Freddie, the agent and some of the others who felt more like 2D caricatures of people in the music industry than real supporting characters.
Thanks to NetGalley, Victory Editing Co-Op, and the author for the chance to read this book.
I am such a sucker for a Jenny Proctor novel - they are always the best sweet romantic comedies that manage to draw me in instantly and keep me coming back for the next instalment.
Laney and Adam are adorable in their initial awkwardness, and Percy is the funniest sidekick. The drama with the band was spot on and will lead itself to some great next books for the rest of the band. I can't wait to read more stories featuring Midnight Rush!
First of all, thank You Netgalley for The ARC granted. As much as I would like to had loved tthe story, it din't click to me. Don't get me wrong. The narrative isn't bad nor difficult to immerse. It just didn't make me love the book. Yet was a good reading.
Okay, okay so I'm secretly a huge fan of boy bands and when I saw this on Netgalley I had to request it because I knew it would be absolutely adorable and it did not disappoint!! I'm also choosing to believe that Midnight Rush (the boy band in this novel) was based off one of my faves growing up, Big Time Rush. You won't convince me otherwise hahah.
This was a very sweet and clean romance. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for something light and fluffy and who of course also still jams to boy band music in their car from time to time. This does deal pretty heavily in grief over the death of a parent so if that is triggering for you, this one might be one you skip.
Overall, I loved this book and it was the perfect read for my very busy weekend! Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
4 ⭐️
Laney, a veterinarian in a small town, thinks she’ll never find love until Adam, a local dog rescue owner, comes into her life. They connect over their interests in music and dogs. Laney helps out Adam when he locks his keys in his car and he finds out that she’s a fan of a boyband that he used to be a part of. The book follows their relationship, how she finds out about his true identity, why he left the band and his music career, and what happens when his ex-bandmates want to get together for a reunion concert. Overall, I thought I was a cute romance and I’m so happy I got to read about Laney and Adam!
Thanks to Victory Editing and NetGalley for this arc!
Oh sweet romance! This book isn’t perfect, but I devoured it. A vet meets an ex boy band member who now owns a dog rescue and I was instantly hooked. Can easily see this becoming a movie
Spice was only kissing & minor cursing, super innocent
I will be making a post on my instagram account: instagram.com/tifers.reads on the 16th of October
will update the link when it comes up.
Thank you to NetGalley & Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the eARC

This is one for the boyband fangirls (anyone who also loves bands in general). Laney is a vet who loved a boyband member growing up. Adam now runs a dog rescue however growing up he was apart of a boyband. This is a sweet introverts to lovers book!
Please check your triggers this book contains loss of parent to cancer, grief and regret. Thank you to Jenny Proctor & Netgallery for the arc 💋
This is the first book in a new series by Jenny Proctor. Some of the characters are loosely connected to/introduced in previous books in other series. You do not need to have read any of those to fully appreciate this book.
Were you a fan of boybands? You'll love this book! Were you not a fan of boybands? You'll love this book!
Yes, it has a boyband as its foundation, but it is much more than that. It is fun and funny. I really enjoyed reading this one. I look forward to reading the next books in this series as they are written.
Content note: This book contains a homosexual man as a side character. There is no discussion about his relationships, but I thought a note should be made for those that may be interested in knowing this before reading.
Thanks to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book. I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for providing an ARC of „Once Upon a Boyband."
Unfortunatelly I dnfed the book at 29%. It was an enjoyable read but I couldn't get attached to characters and the development of the relationship between the two main characters was too fast.
If you're looking for a fun and cute romance story, then give it a try!
Jenny Proctor books always leave me cheesing and this one was no different! It was cute, had a good amount of tension, and the storyline was perfection. Would 100% recommend!
thank you for the arc NetGalley and Jenny Proctor 🫶
THIS BOOK. I loved it.
I am kind of in my boyband era again 🙈 so this was a VERY fun read for sure. I absolutely loved both the leads, her bsf, his sister, and the pets!!
I especially loved the dual pov. You get to see both of them pining and eventually falling for each other, which is so cute 🫶
And don't even get me started on the music aspect! Music is a big part of me, so I loved all their conversations around music, especiallywhen she said that he was her favourite member of Midnight Rush, without even knowing.
His bandmates were also so interesting, I definitely want to read their stories too!
I loved this book! It was an easy read and a great story that was interesting and enjoyable to read.
The characters were well developed and if you are looking for a lighthearted, easy to read book then this is the book for you.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.
I wanted spice and was disappointed with the lack of it BUT other than that, I did enjoy this. It was fun and a quick read :)
Sooo cute and hit me in all the feels as a former boy band lover!!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!
Such a cute contemporary romance. It is perfect if you want a humorous love story with not a lot of spice. It will have you laughing and crying.
