If you liked easter egg hunts as a child, you will love Kianthe and Reyna’s quest for dragon eggs to save their hometown. All they have to do is capture Serina, the river pirate plaguing Arlon's supply chains, and turn her in so justice can be served. However, their success hinges on one precarious condition: a deal with Diarn Arlon, lord of the legendary Nacean River, and partnering with his constable Bobbie, who is determined to capture Serina for reasons of his own…Prepare to sail the low seas of lesbian pirates and relation-shipwrecks to find out if lovers can be made of enemies!
This was a very fun adventure! This book continues the mystery from book 1 but also expands the story to include new characters and new
conflicts. I love Kianthe &Reyna so much and their relationship is lovely, the way they prioritize communication is so great to see.
I also really liked the audiobook except that sometimes it seemed like the narrator was shouting into the mic and it wasn’t even an action scene.
Can't wait for book 3!!
"A Pirate's Life for Tea" follows Reina and Kianthe on their next adventure as they search for stolen dragon eggs, play matchmaker with a constable and a pirate, and attempt to depose a greedy leader. Just as fun and silly as the first book, with lovable characters that really shine, this second installment of the Tomes and Teas series was a very enjoyable read!
The audiobook narrator is wonderful, creating unique voices for each character. I really felt the emotions she portrayed in each scene, and the way she brought out each character's traits through her voices made me feel like these were real people, not just characters on a page. It was an engaging listen, well paced, and the narrator spoke clearly. My one gripe would be that occasionally the narrator would slip out of her character's accent and I wouldn't be sure who was talking. Serena and Bobby also sounded very similar to each other.
The story itself was full of romance, banter, friendship, and adventure! It took place in a different location than book 1, and was full of pirates! Kianthe still made all sorts of silly puns in this book, and was obsessed with reading and tea. I love how Kianthe and Reina have such a healthy, solid relationship. I also liked seeing Bobby and Serena's relationship grow, but was espeically in love with the fact that Bobby used crocheting as a destresser and made all sorts of lopsided toys and hats.
If you liked book 1, you will LOVE book 2! This is the perfect series for those who love romantasy, sapphic romance, and cosy fantasy. It's like Legends and Latte's but with more adventure. 5/5 stars, highly recommend!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing an advanced listener's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Genre: cozy fantasy
Stop me if you've heard me say this before (you definitely have): I need to stop requesting cozy fantasy ARCs. They are *not* for me. Even with pirates, this one wasn't a book I connected with.
That said, if you have an ARC, it's perfect for Sapphic September, and if you like your romantasy cozy, you'll love this.
Reyna (former queen's guard) and Kianthe (most powerful mage in the country) own a bookshop in a remote part of the kingdom far enough away to not be tracked....but a little too close to the dragons. The dragons' eggs were stolen long ago, and they want them back, and Kianthe and Reyna are on a mission to retrieve them. This brings them to the conflict with Serina, former farmer now pirate who steals food to redistribute, and Bobbie, constable and former besties with Serina.
Look, this had hope and promise...and about three too many conflicts for me. It's 444 pages/13 hours. Again, recognizing that this is a me & cozy fantasy issue, the pacing was off - there was a lot of action, and yet the plot crawled. I give it 3.5 stars and 4 swashes buckled.
I loved A Pirate’s Life for Tea even more than the first Tomes and Tea book - what a lovely, relaxing audiobook, perfect for fans of Legends and Lattes or The Spellshop.

3.5 stars .. I might have given it more if I would have read the first book to get to know the characters even more. I love the relationship of the two female main characters . It was a little slow going for me at the beginning but after getting more into the book it came together and I enjoyed the fun adventure. I love that it has fantasy, romance, and adventure all mixed into it. I would say you should definitely give it a read , but start from the Tomes &Tea Cozy Fantasy #1.

I would like to thank the publisher for giving me an audio-arc in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.
I enjoyed book one. I really did. It was mostly cozy. Book two? I think I like this one better in a lot of ways. Was it cozy? No. It was very much a light fantasy with some higher stakes.
We take a step back from the tea shop as Kianthe and Reyna take to the seas. This was very much a swashbuckling adventure that goes easy on the wild adventure and heavy on the banter, cute moments, and light-hearted storyline.
The bonus short story at the end of the audiobook was a little spicy but also super cute. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
When I first read the indie published version, I thought the middle of the book dragged a bit. However, listening to the audiobook fixed this issue for me. The narrator is great and she helps keep the story moving. I can't imagine reading the story any other way now. Highly recommend this series; it's cozy, funny, sapphic, and I can't wait for more.
The narrator was spot on for me, I loved the emotion and how it didn't feel monotonous.
The book itself was really cozy, and perfect for a nice fall night with a glass of hot chocolate!
Even better than the first! A cozy tale, filled to the brim with rollicking fun, whimsy, and adventure. The narrator is so good and Thorne's world building and characters are vibrant. The spicy chapter at the end of the book was DIVINE. Can't wait for the next installment of this series!
Double the lesbians = Double the fun.
I don't usually enjoy cozy books, but this was fun. It held my attention.
I really love these characters and I can't wait for book 3.
4.5 stars! Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, Bramble, and Tor Publishing Group for this advanced copy! You can pick up A Pirate's Life for Tea on October 1, 2024.
Once again, Rebecca Thorne proves she is a master at crafting cozy, queer fantasies. I loved this continuation of Kianthe and Reyna's love story, following their adventures along a pirate-infested river. Thorne once again built a beautiful found family aboard a pirate ship, brought in familiar faces, and introduced us to new love stories all in one book. Tea and books continued to play a central role in the plot, but we also learned more about farming, pirating, and the governing bodies in neighboring lands. I love how this series keeps a cozy vibe while maintaining a thrilling plot that makes you want to keep reading!
I hope everyone picks this one up come October, especially if you're looking for cozy, queer, and magical pirate vibes!
I absolutely adored the first book in this series, and was delighted to receive an ARC of the sequel. I particularly enjoyed the dedication to people who gave the first book one star for containing lesbians, and that this one has double just for them! 😂
A Pirate’s Life for Tea is a cosy fantasy following an ex-queen’s guard and the mage of ages, who have (mostly) left their lives behind to open a bookshop in a small border town which is semi-regularly burnt down by dragons. After discovering in the previous book that the reason the dragons are targeting the town is because their eggs were stolen years ago, our two fearless heroines set out to track them down, and in the process stumble across a noble who is not taking care of his people, and the pirate who has made it her mission to right his wrongs. Accompanied by one of his guards, who crochets incessantly to help with her anxiety, they set out to solve the mystery of the dragons eggs and help out a few pirates along the way.
I loved the plot of A Pirate’s Life for Tea, and enjoyed getting to see a new side to Reyna and Kianthe away from their bookshop. The new characters introduced were equally wonderful, and the dynamics between them were very wholesome. It was nice to get to see our two MCs out on an adventure, and their relationship continue to develop as they adjust to their new lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I already can’t wait for the next one - especially with the hints and questions the epilogue provided 👀
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5
A Pirate’s Life for Tea is the wildly fun and adventurous sequel to Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea that hooked me from the start.
Oh gosh, I loved this one! It was sweet and cozy while also being action-packed and full of adventure. I enjoyed the continuation of Reyna and Kianthe’s story and the incorporation of new characters and romances. The romances were lovely, and the writing was great. The pacing was fantastic, and I loved the character development. I cannot wait for the next book in the Tomes & Tea series!
Jessica Threet is a fantastic audiobook narrator who delivered a magical performance. I loved the accents, fun, and energy she infused into the story. I highly recommend listening to this book on audio!
Thank you to the publisher for the free ALC!
It was fun being back in this world and with our two main characters. Like book one we have a good cast of side characters some new and some old. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Thank you Tor and Netgalley for an ALC of this book.
I absolutely adored Can't Spell Treason Without Tea and I knew I would live this. Reading cozy fantasy for me is just a big warm hug since right now that's what we need sometimes.
Following Reyna and Kianthe's next adventure was a ride and at the same time, a matchmaking story. Both of them newly engages and embarking on a new adventure was everything.
5 stars for sure.
I read the self-pub version of the first book, but decided to do audio for this sequel.
The audio is sooooooo much better. This is the definitive way to read it. In the first book I found the characters kind of stiff and annoying, but I think the narrator removed that for me and made the story much more engaging.
A Pirate’s Life for Tea, book 2 in the Tomes and Tea series by Rebecca Thorne, follows Kianthe and Reyna, along with their new friends, Serina and Bobbie, on a pirate adventure. This cozy fantasy is so fun and heartwarming. I listened to the audio and thoroughly enjoyed Jessica Threet’s narration as well. Full 5⭐️ for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
A Wonderfully Fantastic audiobook that just can't be beat! a brilliant story with fantastic voice acting, and perfect narration from start to finish! with the same narrator as the first book, and a continuation of an epic story with all the best characters, and a bunch of even better ones, you simply must read this series! with double the puns, (and double the lesbians) this sapphic high seas adventure is going to be a fantastic listen, and read, or even both! i certainly intend to listen to it over and over and over again!
follow Kianthe and Reyna as they go on their journey to find the dragon eggs... and get absolutely and completely distracted by the two women who are supposed to hate each other, but absolutely do not. one, is a deceptive pirate stealing food to save the people. the other is a constable who will do anything to stop her... problem is, they are both head over heals in love with each other, refuse to admit it, and have a very long history to boot. well, matchmaking might not be on the official list for an arcandors duties, buuuut... unnoficially? Kianthe is totally, TOTALLY the best at it. totally.
***4.25 Stars***
Overall,
A truly swash buckling tale filled with fun and and adventure! Kianthe and Reyna return as they hunt for some [redacted for spoiler from first book]! In that process we meet two new characters who are not quiet enemies, but have a lot of animosity and history to work out. We got so many pirates and so many pirate puns! I truly had a grand time with this book and can't wait for the next installment of the Tomes & Tea Cozy fantasy. I do recommend that it is necessary to pick up the first book in this series "You Can't Spell Treason without Tea" before going in or you will be pretty lost. Great for lovers of any fantasy type, LGBTQ+ rep and found family.
