Thank you to Random House - Ballantine and Netgalley for this ARC. Unfortunately this didn’t work for me and I had to DNF. The prose reads incredibly juvenile and it isn’t a style of writing I enjoy. I did like the cat character, but other than that, this was not for me.

This was a cute book. It revolves around a group of people and one cat. One cat changed everyone’s life and the cats too. It’s the perfect book for all cat lovers

I love a book about a diverse group of lonely people coming together over something, and coming together over a stray cat? Oh heck yeah, sign me up! The primary FMC is a barista with three rescue cats who volunteers for a TNR organization (trap-neuter-return) in her meager free time. One especially perceptive little guy, Cat (whose perspective we get to see and who we learn goes by many names), has quite a few friends in the neighborhood; he's a good listener, and each of our other MCs confides in him. There were some traumas and twists, but overall this was a sweet and gentle read that made me tear up and feel warm and cozy.

I received a digital copy of this title through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Cat's People by Tanya Guerrero--This upcoming novel releases on April 1. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance digital copy. Cat's People is a heartwarming story of 5 strangers in a NYC neighborhood who are brought together because of and through the efforts of a stray black cat. Told from rotating points of view (including the cat), the story reveals how their encounters lead to the friendship and found family each are seeking. The book teeters right on the edge of cheesy without going there and has a sweet resolution. It also has good racial and sexual diversity representation.

Thank you to NetGalley & Penguin Random House for an early copy of Cat's People by Tanya Guerrero. This book publishes on April 1st and I HIGHLY recommend!

This book was soooooooooo stinkin' cute. I am a sucker for a third person POV story, where it alternates POVs, and none of the characters know each other but they are all connected. That may be oddly specific, but if you know what I mean, you know what I mean.

There are 6 POVs: Nuria (a single, vegan cat lady), Bong (a widow who owns a convenience store), Collin (a NYT best-selling author), Omar (the neighborhood mailman), Lily (a random foodstore employee), and of course, Cat (the neighborhood cat). It gets a tad confusing at first trying to remember all of the characters, but once you're in the swing of things, I promise these characters are so easy to know and tell apart - they all bring something so different to the table and have their own fleshed out personalities. I loved how diverse this book was, our POVs feature 3 POC and there are LBGTQ+ characters. This takes place in a neighborhood in Brooklyn. While the characters don't really know each other now, they all become intertwined in each other's lives, and who to bring them all together other than Cat, the neighborhood cat who lives on the streets, and greedily eats multiple breakfasts a day. I seriously loved Cat's perspective. I have read another book with a cat POV and didn't like it, so this satisfied that curiosity. I would compare this book to Remarkably Bright Creatures, and maybe a dash of Elin Hilderbrand style books.

The author dedicates this book to "all the cat people in the world," giving props to the "suckers" who give in to the cat distribution system, the people who adopt old and sick cats, and the volunteers that help get cats on the street fixed. So, if that's you, this book is for you. I can say if I wasn't such a cat lady myself, I probably wouldn't have loved this book as much as I did. If you're weird and don't like cats, maybe stay away? But if you are a cat lover, do yourself a favor and read this heartwarming novel.

Cat's People by Tanya Guerrero is a charming and uplifting novel about connection, love, and the unexpected ways a stray black cat brings five strangers together in New York City. The story unfolds through alternating perspectives, showcasing the unique journeys of its diverse characters while celebrating themes of compassion, resilience, and found family.

I appreciated the book's light tone and its refreshing focus on the good in humanity. While the pacing was slow at times, the heartfelt conclusion made it a satisfying read. This is a perfect choice for anyone seeking an easy, feel-good story that highlights both human and feline bonds.

This book was so cute and lighthearted! As a cat lover and owner of black cats, I could not stop smiling when reading this book. It is a very easy read, but don't let that stop you from picking it up.

Cat’s People was a sweet novel about lonely New Yorkers who find comfort in each other thanks to the meddling of a neighborhood cat. The story is told from both the human and feline POV, reminiscent of Remarkably Bright Creatures. I enjoyed it. Read this if you are looking for a quick feel-good read!

A heartwarming and engaging glimpse into the lives of five New Yorkers and their relationship to Cat and each other. For readers who enjoyed the community of 'Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore', the magic of cats like 'The Cat Who Saved Books', and the reflection of the 'Before the Coffee Gets Cold' series.

This is such a heartwarming book, I truly enjoyed reading it! I love books about cats, and this is another excellent one to add to my collection.

The chapters are really short as well which helped keep my interest. There’s quite a few POVs, but they all connect at different times and it’s really unique to see how they each intersect. Also, I love Cat as a character, adorable and no notes.

This is such a cozy read and now I want a cat! My favorite chapters were from Cat’s POV. Seeing what he understands and what he doesn’t understand about the humans seems so likely. I will forever be imagining that all cats’ thoughts sound like Cat’s.

I really enjoyed seeing how all the different characters’ lives started to intersect. This book does a good job of not forcing that and it felt organic to me. Made me want to wave at my neighbors more often.

Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for an ARC of this book! This is my honest review.

Cat's People is the ultimate comfort read for cat lover's! Centering around 5 strangers who become family thanks to Cat, I really enjoyed this novel! We have Cat, a stray cat who knows his way around after 11 years in NYC. Then there's Omar, the mailman who always is nice to Cat. Bong recently lost his wife and is struggling with his grief, but Cat reminds him of her. Nuria is the Rainbow Lady who feeds Cat and the other strays. There's also Collin, an awkward author who builds a home for Cat. Finally there's Lily, Nuria's sister - but Nuria doesn't know that. These characters are delightful, diverse and it's so fun watching them all come together from strangers to family. 4 stars!

This was a cute, quick read. A lot of the dialogue felt a little Hallmark-movie cheesy, and there were so many character POVs that it was hard to get equally invested in all of them. I did like Nuria's commitment to helping cats, but she began to take on a bit of a whiny quality as the book went on. Collin was a little top over the top awkward. of course my favorite character was Cat himself. I did enjoy how everyone was or became linked through Cat.

Such a heartwarming story about a cat and the people he meets. It is so fascinating how so many lives can be entwined by people we meet, animals or moments. A cozy book to read with you cat!

This is the story of a stray cat and how it brought together 5 different people. Not exactly Six Dinner Sid but you know, a cat story that involves people... or a people story that involves a cat. I'm not great with multiple POV but that's the premise of this story so I guess we'll go with it!

This book is easy to read, sweet, and enjoyable. Especially as a cat person myself I found myself smitten with the story.

A black stray cat is the glue that brings five very different people together:

😻Núria aka Rainbow Lady is a catloving barista with three cats of her own. She spends her spare time looking out for the stray cats in the neighborhood.
😻Collin aka Awkward Neighbor Guy has a secret crush on Núria and Cat plays Cupid. This guy even puts a special cat house outside his brownstone to provide shelter. I especially enjoyed the notes Collin and Núria exchanged on the street where Cat got his food.
😻Pong aka Sad Bodega Man is a widower after Conchita, the love of his life, dies unexpectedly. His bodega is a daily stop for Cat and his friends.
😻Omar aka Cheery Mailman has a shadow for part of his route. Cat accompanies him to the bodega and loves the creamy treats available there. This guy needs a career change. Will hanging out with Cat and his neighbors bring some answers?
😻Lily aka Bright-Pink Person has come to NYC on a mission to find her half-sister. Will Cat be a part of the search?

At times this one moved a bit too slowly for me and there were some extra characters we could have done without. Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

I was sent an advanced digital copy for review, this is my own opinion. Thanks to Random House - Ballantine | Delacorte Press for the arc!

Content warnings for the book: attempted assault, previous death of a spouse, previous death of a parent, parent/spouse abandoning their family, homophobia by a parent (vaguely worded email?), and pet injury/illness. If you want to know about the illness, I’ll talk more below. If not, don’t read below the stars.

When I was little, one of my favorite books was The Cat With Two homes, and this sounded like a grown up version of that, so naturally it’s intrigued. The cat with two homes goes to a different house for each meal? And the different families feed him and eventually meet because of the cat. Well, this is essentially what happens with Cat. And I love this for me. It was very nostalgic, despite being unlike anything I’ve ever read. I was hesitant starting it because of this, but after finding the flow of the story, I couldn’t put it down. I cried from about 80% onward.

It’s so interesting to see how peoples lives intertwine, and having all these people meet to become a found family through a cat is such a nice touch. I’m not sure what genre to put this in, but if you like reading about the connections people make and forming found families, and most especially, cats, this one is for you.

***
I’m going to mention the cat’s illness and its outcome here so if that is something you don’t want spoiled, look away.

***
Cat is a ten year old stray, and after his run in with the guy on the street he becomes lethargic and ill. It takes a weirdly long time for anyone to notice, but I guess he IS a stray. Anyway, they take him to the vet and find out he has feline kidney disease. He is alive and well at the end of the story.

Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero was such a cozy, feel-good read that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. As an animal lover, I couldn’t get enough of the parts from the cat’s perspective. They were so touching and surprisingly insightful. The whole book has this laid-back, slice-of-life vibe that made it so easy to just sink into. I loved how all the different characters' lives came together so naturally, drawn in by their shared love and care for Cat.

The characters are warm and inviting, and it’s impossible not to root for them. Watching their stories weave together was a joy, and the little side plots all fit so well, adding to the whole experience instead of feeling like distractions. It’s the kind of book you reach for when you want something comforting and uplifting.

The ending was sweet and satisfying. It left me smiling long after I finished the last page. Tanya Guerrero has put together such a cozy, low-stakes story that’s all about connection, kindness, and the little moments that make life beautiful.

I absolutely recommend this one to anyone looking for a soothing, heartwarming read. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
