A sweet story delivered to me at a time when I really really needed a sweet story. I enjoyed the human characters, and felt particular affection for Cat.

I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this book. I am not a cat person and I didn't know how that might color my perception. As I read deeper and deeper into this story, I found myself hooked. I didn't care that the central character was a cat. The people were so interesting and vibrant that I enjoyed every page.

Cat is a stray. While other cats may wish for an indoor home and reliable feeding, Cat doesn't. He has his routine and is perfectly content on his own. A lady comes around nearly every day and feeds him. His friend the mailman buys him a treat on his delivery days. The nice lady at the bodega used to feed him too but he hasn't seen her for a while. Cat hasn't made his mind up whether he likes the writer or not. Only time will tell. These are Cat's people. How will he bring such divergent people together? Circumstances will cause these people to become neighbors and friends.

I've never read a book told from the perspective of a Cat. The author brilliantly captures the behaviors and oddities of humans. This is an uplifting story about people reaching out and caring for each other, quite a juxtaposition to contemporary life. Each character grows and their lives become more - all because of a cat.

This is a quick reading story that warms your heart and reminds us of how important human connections really is to our lives.

When I started reading "Cat's People," I confess that I thought the story was moving along rather slowly. But that didn't last long. Soon the lovely human characters met each other and made a friend, or didn't do so well upon first meeting but tried again.

At the center of all these human interactions is Cat. He is an all-black fellow who knows that some people are wary of him. Cat thinks that's foolish, but what is he to do?

Fortunately Cat has new and old friends among the human characters. There's Nuria, the woman who feeds him near the bush where he often stays. Omar is a jolly mailman who supplies yummy cat treats. There's Collin, the best-selling author who has writer's block. Although Cat is a bit wary of all of them, he knows they mean well and-- in this magical story-- intervenes whenever he can to help them out.

The farther I read, the faster I read. Yes, I wanted the best for all of Cat's friends. Most of all, though, I wanted to know what would happen to Cat.

I highly recommend "Cat's People" by Tanya Guerrero. It is one of those stories that has stayed with me in the days since I finished reading it. Would a sequel be possible? I hope so.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review.

This book felt like a warm hug and it was exactly what I needed. In this book we follow a group of five people who come together to help take care of a sick cat. Found family is one of my favorite tropes and the character work that Tanya Guerrero did was so beautiful, I found myself tearing up a time or two.

I was able to read this novel thru NetGalley and even though I am not a cat lover I really enjoyed this book. Told thru the viewpoints of the characters that a wild cat encounters in the streets of the city it moves quickly and it’s easy to be engaged in the outome. Well written and different from most other novels because of its originality.

**Book Review: "Cat's People" by Tanya Guerrero**

Tanya Guerrero’s "Cat's People" is a heartwarming exploration of love, connection, and the unexpected ways we find family in our lives. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Brooklyn, the story revolves around Núria, a single-by-choice barista and member of The Meow-Yorkers, a group dedicated to caring for the neighborhood's stray cats. When Núria discovers mysterious Post-It notes from a secret admirer near her favorite stray, a charming black cat named Cat, her journey of self-discovery and connection begins.

Guerrero’s writing is warm and inviting, perfectly capturing the essence of each character as they navigate their own struggles and dreams. The five strangers—Núria, Collin, Lily, Omar, and Bong—are beautifully crafted, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table. Their individual stories intertwine seamlessly, creating a rich tapestry of human connection that resonates deeply.

The element of mystery surrounding the notes adds an engaging twist to the narrative. As readers, we are drawn into Núria's world, wondering who the secret admirer could be, while also rooting for the blossoming friendships among the characters. Each interaction is filled with warmth and humor, highlighting the transformative power of community and shared purpose.

Cat, the sly black cat at the center of it all, serves as a poignant symbol of the connections formed throughout the story. His illness becomes a catalyst that brings these five individuals together, prompting them to confront their fears, vulnerabilities, and ultimately, their capacity for love and friendship. Guerrero beautifully illustrates how caring for another being can lead to personal growth and deeper connections.

"Cat's People" is a celebration of found family and the small moments that can change our lives forever. It reminds us that love comes in many forms, whether through friendships, community, or the bonds we form with our furry companions.

In conclusion, Tanya Guerrero has penned a charming and uplifting novel that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt alone or disconnected. Thank you to NetGalley & Penguin Random House for an eARC of Cat's People in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this feel-good book! If you're a cat person, I highly recommend this book. Told from multiple perspectives, one being Cat himself, we meet a motley crew of characters, all perfectly flawed & relatable. Over the course of the summer, the lives of 5 people intersect due to their mutual affection for cat. It's a beautiful tale of found family.

Highly recommended for cat lovers young & old.

I’ve always been a cat person, everything from barn cats, house cats, Siamese, strays, tabbies, loved them all! This book title caught my attention, immediately knew I would love it. It was easy to read with a mismatched bunch of Brooklynites. There wasn’t a person I didn’t relate with and enjoy. There’s a barista, mailman, famous author, nagging mothers, a widowed bodega owner and a long lost sister. It’s hard to say whether the main character is Núria or Cat. Each of the characters lives and personalities are beautifully sprinkled into the story. Each has quirks, loss, joy and loneliness but, the one thing they share the most is caring for stray cats. Núria spends more time and money on them than herself. Mysterious notes begin to show up at a particularly large brownstone where she feeds a special Cat. I laughed and cried and giggled with each new event. Friendships evolve, love is in the air and I rooted for them all on their journey along life’s rough terrain. What a wonderful, hope-filled tale led by a smart black Cat! If you need some joy in your life this is a lovely read that will make you smile.

Cat's People is a sweet book about a group of lonely strangers in Brooklyn whose lives intersect and friendships are formed - all thanks to a stray black cat named Cat!

I didn't expect to love Cat's People since I generally avoid cozy and/or romance. But it was about a cat so I couldn't resist!! It turned out to be such a heartwarming book! Some of the chapters are from Cat's perspective and I loved how he would figuratively roll his eyes at the humans. (I'm pretty sure I've had a few cats that did that when I was talking to them, haha.)

I must say that I found myself caring about all five people, equally. Kudos to the author because that's rather rare for me. It's surprising to me that this is the first adult book she's written and this adult recommends Cat's People!!!

BIG thanks to both #DelacortePress and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Cat's People. This book has an expected publication date of April 1, 2025.

A feel good, heart warming story of a cat who brings together 5 strangers who are all somewhat lost in their own lives. You will find yourself tearing up and alternately smiling as you read this story.

Like Remarkably Bright Creatures meets Fredrick Bachman, this book is a warm hug about the small ways life connects us all. I enjoyed all the different perspectives, and really loved Cat’s.

One fateful summer and a stray cat brings together the lives of five strangers in New York City in Tanya Guerrero’s Cat’s People.
A stray black cat, called Cat, is a clever and curious feline quick to observe and pointedly stare and meow at those he deems to interact with to help make their lives better and he does just that as he roves through the lives of five strangers and manages to bring them closer together in the process. The five strangers are Núria, a barista who takes care of the neighborhood’s stray cats by feeding them, which includes Cat; Collin, a bestselling author who spends most of his time within his home observing the world beyond, which includes Núria feeding Cat; Bong, a bodega owner grieving the loss of his wife who supplies Núria with paper plates for feedings; Omar, the friendly mailman who talks with Cat as if he’s a person like Núria does; and Lily, a recent high school graduate from Georgia searching for Núria, who happens to be her long-lost half-sister. As Cat crosses their paths and draws them together, their lives intermingle as they each work through their respective personal crises until united by their common desire to care for the sickly feline and they ultimately become a tightly connected, cohesive group.
In an endearing story that intertwines the lives of five strangers through the involvement of a stray cat, whose welfare they all care about, connection is made a key and obvious theme, and, they all, Cat included, find that home is more about the people you surround yourself with rather than the place in which you reside. Conveyed through the perspectives of the six characters, the narrative builds as it rotates between each of them and fills in details from the various points of view of each to add specifics that help explain nuances to behavior or background to provide each character with a full and rich presence that makes it easy to empathize with their struggles and situations. While some moments feel a bit over the top and unbelievable, there’s narration from a cat, so the bar for reality is shifted and the tone is generally lighter with the story as a whole coming off as cute and cozy.
Overall, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

As a proud single cat lady, this book was beyond perfect. Even if you aren’t a cat lover, this book tugs at your heartstrings and is a refreshing take. Told from a stray neighborhood black cat, affectionately known by his 5 caretakers as ‘Cat’ you are shown how 5 different characters from all walks of life come together in New York to help take care of the neighborhood stray cat. This was the perfect heartfelt, short read on a gloomy day, cuddled with your furry family members.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this ARC.

I am definitely a cat lady so when I saw the title, I knew I had to read this. How much of a cat lady am I? I read this entire book while getting a tattoo of my most recently departed cat. I was hooked from the first page with Cat's perspective. The character development for Cat and for Cat's people was excellent, especially for a relatively short book. How the characters were intertwined and how they came together was really sweet but also fairly believable for a work of fiction. I also really enjoyed how people were finding their way. They were imperfect characters and that made them much more enjoyable. The inner monologue of Cat was exactly how I imagine a cat would think and talk to themselves. Super cute book!
