I really enjoyed Mariajo Ilustrajo’s The Spell of a Story and was pleased to see the polar bear I’d spotted in that has their own story. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed what I could access, multiple pages only contained text and splashes of pink so I am unable to review this book.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
Even without the illustrations, this book is cute overload. The story is relatable because I think every has been lost, either mentally or physically, at some point in their lives, even children. The author expressed their emotions perfectly.
This is a beautifully illustrated story that any child, and grown up will enjoy looking at and reading over and over!
Can’t access this title properly on my device. A lot of the pages appear to be blank or with minimal pictures on. From what I can see this is another fabulous book by this author/illustrator and will be as superb as previous ones. Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.
Mariajo Ilustrajo’s Lost is a moving and beautifully illustrated exploration of loss and recovery. Through its thoughtful narrative and evocative artwork, the book offers a comforting and hopeful perspective.
This was really cute! I loved the illustration style and I think this is a story that will really resonate with children! WHO hasn’t been lost in their time?
The illustrations were great and I thought the first half of the book was good but as soon as bear got on the subway the story lost me. I had to go back and read the description of the book to understand what went on to get bear home.
I don't get it, most of the pictures were missing except a little blob of pink and half the story was missing? Please update so we can review properly
A very sweet picture book about a polar bear finding their way home, after some misadventures in the city. As some other reviewers have noted, there appear to be some technical issues with the version on NetGalley, but from the pages which are visible, the illustrations are gorgeous and this would be a lovely book to share and read together with young children.
Many thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for the advance copy.
I am not sure if there is something wrong with the PDF but there are pages with just a bit of pink fluff with words in it. It is hard even for me to gather what happened there and how did that person (whoever they were) manage to get bear home. Maybe if I could see a proper version of the book, I might give it a higher rating.
Lost is a picture book about a polar bear, who finds himself lost in the city, and needs help to return to the North Pole. I loved the illustrations in this one. They were very soft and appealing. I liked that everyone tried to help the bear in the city, but felt like the dialogue/text could have been a little more engaging. I think the kiddos will enjoy this one.
Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing, and Mariajo Ilustrajo for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own.
I think my kids would really enjoy this book. I felt like the dialogue was a bit one dimensional, which I know can be challenging with children’s books. My kids really enjoyed the art work, however, I had a number of pages that were just a red fluff ball (?) and blank white background. I realize that’s the girl that helped the bear, but there wasn’t context without reading the summary, so it seemed like it was the bears inner voice.
Bear, a polar bear, is lost, and we don’t know why, but that’s not important.
This is the bear’s story of being lost miles away from his loved ones.
Unsure if it is done intentionally for the eARC but many pages were not fully there (as if not fully rendered but not exactly like that, like the pictures and most of the text missing).
Due to that, I cannot comment on the full story, but the pages I have read and then the ending have potential.
Cute illustrations and witty characters.
Just because I was unable to view the full book, I will give this 3 stars for now.
I'm not sure if something was wrong with the PDF version on my netgalley app but half of the illustrations in the book were red splotches. I was so confused trying to figure out what the red splotches were that it took away from the book and how good it was supposed to be.
A beautiful picture book telling the story of a polar bear lost in a city.
The bear struggles to find his way home but eventually is befriended by a little girl who takes him home; she knows he's not happy and needs to find his family in the North Pole.
The text is simple, sensitive and charming- pitch perfect for KS1/EYFS
Mariajo Ilustrajo's imagery/illustrations are perfect and full of warmth
This would be a great alternative or complimentary to book to Oliver Jeffer's "Lost and Found"
A pure delight from start to finish
