I've enjoyed J.H. Markert's previous works, but Sleep Tight is by far my favorite. This freakishly spine-tingling thriller with a touch of things unexplainable should for sure be added to the spooky season TBR of all thriller lovers. I've seen Sleep Tight classified as horror, and, while there are some dark and gritty scenes, it's not overly gory. I loved the characters, particularly Tess, but Father Silence and the Outkast are also intriguing, and, with this one, J.H. Markert cements his must-read status. The narration, provided by the super talented Andi Arndt, is perfect, and she is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators.

Thank you Netgalley for my advanced listener copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book is about a man who goes by Father Silence, whom many years ago killed 19 and left 1 lone survivor, the day after he is put to death one of the men who put him away winds up dead along with his wife, and the victims daughter who helped put him away, her child comes up missing as well. A man who goes by Outcast is part of what is happening, but why is he doing this? Tess must try and uncover all the secrets and clues to get her daughter back, which includes talking to the lone survivor who is in a mental health facility. This book is perfect for the spooky season and I would recommend this.

What initially grabbed my attention was that amazingly spooky looking cover, along with the title.
Intriguing!

A crime novel with elements of horror that is grisly and fast-paced. Each chapter is packed with action, intrigue, and twists, with never a dull moment.

The inticate plot is well thought out with complex characters and psychological themes touching on addiction and childhood trauma.

I loved the writing style, which is eerily atmospheric, and bone chilling, giving just enough creep factor to keep you on the edge of your seat. Everything is connected, but you won't see it coming, which is part of Markert's genius.

I highly recommend you add this book to your spooky season tbr.

Also, a shout out to #andiarndt for a fantastic job on the narration and making the story come alive.

★★★★\5.

Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this ALC to review. I switched between audio and my physical copy from Book of the Month while reading.

Sleep Tight was a fantastic thriller. I was immediately ensnared by the cover and title. The colors paired with the house promised an ominous tale, and I was anxious to get my hands on this one. It had just enough tension and mystery to keep me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved the dual timelines and the characters. Baddy Boy Noah, Tess, and Justin added so much to this story and kept the pace exciting. The before chapters were placed in just the right spots, and I could feel the stress and fear pouring off the parents as they frantically searched for their daughter. You need to pay attention to this one to piece everything together, but it is worth it. You're going to want to add this to your TBR!

Father Sleep had shocked the town of Twisting Tree over 20 years ago and now in the wake of his execution, we have a copycat serial killer on the loose called Outcast. Detective Tess Claiborne has close ties to Father Sleep that become even more personal when her family is now part of the investigation!

This one is a smorgasbord of happenings throughout. This creepy horror, thriller, mystery had me up late listening to this one while following Tess as she tries to find the Outcast, and follow the trail the Outcast leaves. I was so drawn to this while listening, and just when I couldn’t be more glued to it, we get another twist that had me like 😲. While I won’t spoil it and tell the plot point I’m speaking of, I’ll just say that it is one I love seeing in movies. It brought in the psychological thriller aspect that is my jam!

This is the creepy book you may looking for, for this scary season. While it wasn’t super scary for me it did have that creepy atmospheric vibe I enjoy. I know I will continue to think about this one for some time!

This is the absolute perfect book for spooky season and it definitely got me in the mood for for all things scary.

It was chilling and addictive. Scary and unputdownable. It was made even better by the incredible audio. What a production. Superb!

Sleep Tight was a beautiful read, on par with J.H. Markert's previous works, Mister Lullaby and The Nightmare Man. The narration by Andi Arndt also was well done and they conveyed the emotions of every line extremely well. It was an enjoyable listen and brought me to an easier understanding of everything that went on throughout the book due to having a voice to each character. Absolutely looking forward to more narrations by Andi especially paired with the writing of J.H. Markert.

Thank you to netgalley and crooked lane books for the ARC in exchange for an honest rate and review!

Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC audiobook. If you like thrillers and horror, then you aren't going to want to miss out on this one that comes out tomorrow. This was a wild ride as Tess Claiborne must deal with the kidnapping of her daughter and how it relates to the death of Father Silence and his House of Horrors. This book was creepy and disturbing in the best possible way. Definitely an author to follow.

Do you like a good murder mystery with enough twists and turns to create it's own labyrinth? Well this may be the book for you and boy, does it take you on a swirling chase through a dark forest in the middle of the night. You certainly do not know who to trust for a large portion of the book.

With children going missing, a death row killer meeting his end, and secrets from the past coming back to haunt at least one of the main characters in the story.

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an audio advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I was first introduced to J. H. Markert when I read his novel Mister Lullaby which I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt as though this one might have been even better with a solid cast of characters and their individual flaws, a bit of time jumping (which can be confusing in an audiobook) and fast paced action.

I will say, when I think spooky or horror, I think of supernatural, ghosts, and a bit of body horror as well. .I don't feel this book had much of that beyond some people wearing animal masks and doing the bidding of "mother". I would solidly put this book in the realm of thriller and mystery because you aren't certain who to trust, and who might be next.

Overall, a very solid book for the spooky season... just needs a few more ghosts but we do have plenty of skeletons in the closets.

This book is compulsively readable. While it isn’t reinventing anything new in the thriller genre, it was a good read to get into spooky mood.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC of this novel.

Sleep Tight by J.H. Markert is an absolute page-turner with an amazing plot that keeps you hooked from the very first chapter. The suspense is relentless, leaving you completely engaged from beginning to end. The twists and turns kept me guessing the entire way, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, Markert delivered even more surprises. The story unfolds with a perfect blend of intrigue and thrills that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The narrator of this book was freaking awesome and made the experience even more immersive. Their voice brought the characters to life, making it hard to press pause! I’m so sad the book had to end, as I truly wanted more. I can’t help but wonder will there someday be a part two?

I am so happy to have had the opportunity to review this book on #NetGalley prior to its publication. It’s one I won’t forget anytime soon!

I’ve been so excited to read this book for a long time and I’m sad now that it’s over. But that’s only because I enjoyed it so much and didn’t want it to end! @jamesmarkert74 hit this one out of the park with the creep factor and the absolute bonkers twists and turns! If you’re into cult vibes, creepy serial killers, and the darkest aspects of human nature then you’ll love this book!

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by one of my top 3 narrators @offmicandi Andi Arndt and as usual, she was phenomenal! I loved how she voiced each character.

Since horror was listed as the genre, I was expecting something scary. This was more unusual or weird, but not scary. Overall, it was okay, but not at all what I expected.

Missing daughter? Execution by electric chair? Small town with big secrets? Repressed memories? All aspects of Sleep Tight that will draw you in from the start! This dark atmospheric novel follows a couple whose daughter didn’t make it into school one morning. Alongside a new serial killer in action, familiarity of past times- before they captured the infamous murderer. Copy cat or something more?

Walking into this book blind, all I had to go on was the cover. I loved this story!! It had just enough twists, the most accurate portrayal of the psychological condition I’ve ever seen, and a great backbone to the story. This is a MUST READ!

This was absolutely amazing! I tandem read and listened to the audio and that was the best decision I could have made because it made the book even better than it already was! The narrator did a fantastic job. There was never a point when I was irritated by the narration or narrator. I honestly wish I could listen to this for the first time again!

Sleep Tight kept me glued to the page. There were multiple POVs, and I enjoyed every single one. I found myself invested in each character on their quest to rescue Tess and Justin's daughter Julia after a suspected killer abducted her. The backstory and the plot were so rich in suspense, mystery, intrigue, and trauma. The narration by Andi Arndt was also amazing. I highly recommend this book to horror, thriller, and mystery fans. Especially those who enjoy noir.

I read a fair amount of scary books, but this story really got to me. There is everything from the resurrection of Old Sparky to cults, clergy behaving badly and creeps in animal masks doing the unspeakable. The characters here are well developed and the atmosphere is eerie. The plot is delightfully terrifying from the very beginning and truly never lets up. If you are looking for your spooky season read, I highly recommend this one. It’s a fast paced thriller with a great mystery and frightening horror elements.

The audio production is excellent with Andi Arndt giving an outstanding performance. She’s a favorite of mine and certainly added to my enjoyment of the story.

If you're looking for the perfect book to read this spooky season, look no further!! I absolutely loved everything about this. It was so compulsively readable, I pretty much read it in one sitting. I’ve seen a lot of book comparisons swirling around, but I would have to say that this felt like a solid mix of The Whisper Man by Alex North and The Chestnut Man by Soren Sveistrup. It had a strong police procedural vibe in a lot of ways, but also strong horror elements and very unsettling pacing/imagery. There were a few scenes here that will genuinely keep me up at night. The only thing that kept me from rating this a full 5 stars is that I felt like the ending wrapped up a little too quickly, but it still felt like a very fitting conclusion to the story.

Great narration, I felt immersed in the story. The book is very detailed, creepy and atmospheric. There are many characters (and we see their POVs) and it was hard to keep up with all of their details & aliases at times. I think the book could have been shorter, it got tiring following Tess and Justin on their wild-goose chase hunting down the OutCast to find their daughter. I enjoyed the book, but at times I just wanted it to end. It really picked up at 75%, it kept me guessing as the twisted and convoluted story was difficult to decipher who “Mother” was. While I’m not sure that I’m satisfied with that answer, I still recommend this book. A good read for spooky season!

A fantastic and compelling cover, but the content didn't engage me to the same extent. Definitely an unreliable narrator trope, but it doesn't quite pan out. The first third, with it's focus on the serial killer who refused to speak, and his final words before being executed, was intriguing, The pace becomes meandering, and the narrator (not for the audiobook, but for the book) did not add as much insight as they could have. My first Markert read, so I am not sure how it compares to their previous work.
