Thank you Icon Books for the opportunity to review this account of Britain's highest value heist.
Unfortunately this book is a convoluted account which doesn't seem to fall into being a non-fiction memoir or a novel worthy of a 1980s British thriller. It neither follows a comprehensive timeline or story narrative, jumping backwards and forwards with multiple characters many of which are unnecessary to understanding this remarkable tale.
The book needed professional developmental editing to improve the structure, clarify its content and give the manuscript some consistency.
Although as a project undertaken by a competent production team, the story could make an great film.
Sadly this was a DNF for me. The storyline held some interest, but the writing style was such that it quickly became tiresome. The author doesn’t stick to a clear path, but rather meanders around, leaping from one time to another and back again, and introducing countless people of no consequence, so that it’s hard to keep track of what is happening. Had the book been written more methodically, with everything in date order, and no needless characters, I think this could’ve been an interesting tale
