Love this amazing author and have enjoyed every book in this wonderful series. And this book is just wow! I raced through this one! Fast paced, brilliant, great writing - what's not to like?
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Rita Herron’s The Ice Sisters is a masterful blend of suspense and emotion, marking a significant milestone in the Detective Ellie Reeves series. Set in the eerie, snow-covered landscape of Cold Mountain, this tenth installment delves deep into the chilling mystery of two young girls found frozen on an icy lake.
Detective Ellie Reeves faces one of her most heart-wrenching cases yet when she discovers the bodies of twin sisters, eerily identical with their matching bows and heart-shaped faces. As she digs deeper, Ellie uncovers a web of secrets that threatens to unravel the very fabric of the community.
Ellie Reeves continues to be a compelling protagonist, her character growing more complex with each book. Herron expertly portrays Ellie’s inner struggles and her relentless drive for justice, making her both relatable and admirable. The supporting characters, including the enigmatic mother of the twins, add layers of intrigue and emotional depth to the story.
Herron’s writing is both evocative and precise, capturing the stark beauty and danger of Cold Mountain. Her ability to build suspense is exceptional, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that keeps readers eagerly turning the pages. The emotional weight of the narrative is balanced with moments of introspection and revelation, making it a well-rounded and engaging read.
The Ice Sisters explores themes of loss, family secrets, and the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones. The contrast between the innocence of the young victims and the dark secrets surrounding their deaths adds a poignant layer to the story.
Rita Herron has crafted a gripping and emotionally charged thriller that will resonate with fans of the series and new readers alike. The Ice Sisters is a testament to Herron’s storytelling prowess, offering a narrative that is as heart-wrenching as it is thrilling. This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-crafted mystery with deeply developed characters.
Detective Ellie Reeves is back. Reeling from the news, she learnt at the end of book nine. Ellie takes off to get some peace and perspective. Only to find a snow storm heading her way.
But she's experienced enough to make it out, isn't she?
What she doesn't count on are a frozen lake and the discovery of two bodies. That of twin girls, sisters frozen in the snow.
And now Ellie is determined to find their killer. But this killer is clever and illusive and as the investigation gets underway. There are more questions than answers.
All of which revolve around the fact nobody has reported these two girls missing and three women who appear to be keeping secrets. So big that even the death of these innocent girls won't make them talk.
That is until the killer targets two of their daughters and Ellie, Derek and Cord unearth a startling connection between them.
And with twists and turns and a killer I did not see coming. This is another cracking addition to the series and the ending oh how I've been waiting for that moment.
I would happily recommend to all.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letitng me read this book
this book punches right from the start
when detective eliie reeves finds the dead bodies of twin girls its the start of an horrific murder investigation that sends shocks waves through the whole department
who would kill innocent young girls like that but as the investigation goes on and another victim is found they just dont understand the rhyme or reason for any of it....
but for someone it makes perfect sense after the abandonment they suffered
a compelling read that keeps you reading right to the end and on the edge of your seat.... cant wait for the next book in this wondeful series
Wow !!!! a truly pulse pounding, fast-paced, and shocking mystery. Short chapters with escalating and cleverly plotted suspense. One mystery weaves into another throughout the book. The connection between all the characters didn't reveal until the ending. In between unidentified killer's motive puts you on edge all the time. As we reached climax, it's a race to save other two little girls' lives.
Ellie Reeves is an excellent detective, brave, compassionate, and intelligent. I would love to read the other books in the series. Superb thriller 👌
Highly recommended.
Thanks to @Netgalley @Bookouture and the author for providing the eARC.
It's never a good idea to jump into a series starting on the tenth book!
This was such a great read! I was hooked immediately from the prologue and from then on it was a fast paced race to the end of the book as I joined Detective Ellie Reeves on her hunt for missing 'mother' Barbara.
Characters are great throughout and I'm definitely looking to invest further into Reeves and her team.
was so glad to get an advanced copy from Netgalley.
I love this series!
This starts with Ellie taking some time off after the last case. While she is hiking she discovers the bodies of twin girls.
This book had so many twists and turns. More than one villain and a lot of suspects.
Even though it was a very sad subject, I really enjoyed this book.
I am impatient for the next book!
This can easily be read as a stand alone, but for those familiar with the series, it takes place just a few weeks after the last book in the series. Also there is movement on the love triangle. Did your favorite make the cut? And will it stick?
The case is complex with a lot of moving pieces that at times didn’t seem to fit together. Two deceased twin girls that no one reported missing. Their mother is identified through DNA, but she disappears and has no kids’ stuff at her home. Ellie, Cord and Derrick struggle to piece things together. I liked how they worked together and at times set their differences aside to follow the clues.
I was gripped from the start and loved all the short chapters. It kept the pace moving and me wanting more. I really had no idea where this one was heading and didn’t figure it out. It was an excellent add to the series and I binge read it in a day.
This one will be a struggle for some as it deals with family issues. IVF, missing kids and of course losing kids. There are heartbreaking moments and I was really moved by the family struggles.
Wow!
This plot was so intense and sad.
Detective Ellie Reeves and her team are thrown into investigating a case that is confusing to all involved.
I never guessed what was going on…..literally kept me guessing until the last few pages of the book.
I have to say…..that ending was…..well……you need to read the book to find that out for yourself.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a great crime thriller.
Ellie discovers the bodies of two young girls in the snow, but after falling into the icy lake, she’s in no fit state to call for help.
Luckily Cord and Derrick start looking for her as they expected her back at work, and they are shocked to find the girls nearby.
No-one has reported the girls missing and when Ellie starts investigating they find a woman in hospital who could be linked to them.
There’s other women that are frightened for the safety of their children and Ellie, Derrick and Cord need to work out what the link is.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
The more books I read in this series, the more I fall in love with the characters and the ability of the author to keep me engrossed in the stories from the beginning to the end. This story starts with Ellie finding two dead girls with no clues as to who they are and why they are dead. There is plenty of suspense and lots of twists as the Ellie follows the clues to look for the killer plus danger for all as she gets closer to the answers. Also woven throughout the story are hints of the personal conflict between Ellie, Derrick, and Cord. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next story.
Detective Ellie Reeves’s mind is haunted by a single thought: two little girls need her. Tragically, these are twin girls who met untimely and brutal ends. Ellie, FBI Agent Derrick Fox, and Cord McLain, an expert with Search and Rescue, intensify their search for the girls’ killer. However, a disturbing fact sets them all on edge: no one has reported the girls missing.
After an abandoned car is discovered near the girls’ bodies, Ellie wonders if the driver, now hospitalized, has any connection to the little girls. Perhaps Ellie, Derrick and Cord are getting closer to the truth. As tragic as this case is, they all realize that it extends far beyond the brutal and untimely deaths of the twin girls.
To be fair, The Ice Sisters is not an easy read, as the subject matter remains heartbreaking throughout. However, I must say that Rita Herron crafted an intriguing story that evoked empathy for the little girls and other characters whose stories gradually unfolded. While this is the tenth book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series, it can be read as a standalone novel. However, if you’re like me, you might want to read the entire series in order.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
The Ice Sisters is book 10 in the pulse-pounding crime thriller series Detective Ellie Reeves by Rita Herron.
I’ve read and loved every single book in this series. Each one has held my attention and kept me turning the pages.
The twist and turns and revelations kept coming, and each one was more shocking than the last. Herron is a master of suspense and mystery, and her writing keeps you guessing until the very end. The characters in this book are so well developed, and I found myself rooting for them the entire time. The storyline was gripping and kept me hooked from start to finish. Overall, "The Ice Sisters" is an excellent read and one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a thrilling mystery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Diabolical yet heartfelt! Rita Herron is great at weaving a terror-filled story that is twisted and gory, yet having a core cast that feels like old friends every time we dive in that lightens the mood. Detective Ellie Reeves jumps head first into this case on her own and her team runs to catch up when they learn she's in need. The twists are interesting and often unexpected, but this book felt slightly disjointed for me which usually doesn't happen when Ellie is on the case. I enjoyed seeing some personal items being fleshed out a little bit, but hope to dive even more into that when the series continues. Not my favorite of the series, but always a pleasure to see Ellie and go along for the ride!
I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that enjoys a core cast of crime solvers who jump in to solve crime, support each other and make for a better town surrounding them all.
Wow what a twisted plot. I kept trying to piece it together and did not till almost the end. The red herrings were awesome, the twisty plot even better. Ellie (Detective) tenacious and stubborn as always. Cord and Derrick both trying to back her up and be there for her. The loss of innocent children, pain of still birth or infertility, this book had it all and please, please, please tell me that was not a tease at the end Rita Herron! Thank you for the advanced copy. I freely volunteer my honest thoughts and opinions. #TheIceSisters #DetectiveEllieReeves #RitaHerron #Bookouture #NetGalley
Although The Ice Sisters is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone. Ellie goes hiking and gets caught by a strong snow storm and falls into a lake almost drowning and when she gets out of it she finds two young dead girls. That image will haunt her days until she finds the culprit. It's sort of a convoluted reason as to why the killer is aiming kids and mothers and why a secret was kept for years. If one of them had told the Police what was going on lives would've been spared. However, it's entertaining, and well-written.
I thank the author, her publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.
Ellie makes a horrid discovery after having an accident herself. Two little girls, identical in every way, lay dead in the icy snow. This one was a little traumatic and a lot heart wrenching as it involved children. To make the situation even more dire, no one has reported these girls missing. The crew is not certain whether the parents are dead as well, or missing.
This case was a real head scratcher because there were so many people and moving parts that do not seem to go together. It was like peeling an onion back layer by layer. As you learn the truth behind all of the lies and half truths, you will be shocked to learn the real story.
This is a good police procedural, but an even more compelling mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final pages. I always enjoy reading a Detective Ellie Reeves book. She is fearless and will put her own life in jeopardy to save others even as she is going through her own personal issues.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Like wow omg I was unable to put this book down so much twist and turns.
Absolutely fantastic read from start to finish I'm definitely want to read more from this author.
Definitely a must read you will not be disappointed
As the snow falls and a bitter wind blows, Detective Ellie Reeves is devastated to discover the bodies of two little girls, alone and frozen on an icy lake, in the isolated town of Cold Mountain. The girls are holding hands, with matching bows in their blond curls, and when Ellie realizes they are twin sisters. But, back at the police station, she is horrified to discover that nobody has reported the sisters missing. Then an abandoned car is found near the girls’ bodies, and Ellie learns that the female driver is in hospital. A DNA test shows that the woman in hospital is the twins’ mother Barbara, and Ellie rushes to interview her. But when Ellie arrives at the hospital she is faced with an empty bed. Barbara has fled and her house is abandoned too. When another little girl disappears, Ellie knows that finding Barbara might well be the key to saving an innocent child
The tenth outing for Ellie, whilst it could be read on it’s own I’d recommend reading the previous book as this one starts a few weeks after the last book & Ellie is still dealing with the fallout. Another well written edge of the seat read. This book won’t be for everyone as it does deal with some traumatic events. There were twists, turns & red herrings as the team rush to find Barbara & solve the case. A well written book with strong characters & a well paced story. Once I’d started it I found it very hard to put down & burned the midnight oil to finish it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
Detective Ellie and her team are on the hunt for a killer, young twin girls were found and it's only the beginning of this mystery.
I loved that I had no clue what was going on. The author connected quite a few players and possible suspects. Watching how they connected was a mystery in itself.
Other bodies are in play keeping you guessing, then a complete hook turn showed the killer and why and my head was spinning.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next one.
