A very different story line. Can't say I loved it. With that being said, I still enjoyed this newest Ellie Reeves book and look forward to number 11.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
Detective Ellie Reeves, out on a hike, comes across the bodies of two young sisters. As she, Cord, and Derrick investigate to figure out who they are and why no one has reported them missing, they encounter more twists and turns and an increasing body count. This book kept me guessing almost until the end. Finally, a small resolution to the Ellie and Cord saga!
Another fantastic addition to the series, Ellie as usual will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of two little girls and the secrets that their mother, may be hiding
This was a very fast paced, action packed thriller. Ellie is racing against the clock to unravel the mystery of the deaths of twin 8 year old girls. Their parents have not reported them missing, and there seems to be no clues leading anywhere. When pieces of the puzzle slowly start to come to light, Ellie and her team are left with more questions than answers, and suspects that may be linked to other crimes. Putting all the pieces together takes time, and that is something they don't have when another little girl is targeted, and so are two women. Figure all the details out will take a lot of team work, and fast thinking.
I love this series, and this latest book was an awesome addition. The characters, as always, have personality and are well developed . The plot had everything from mystery, action, deceit, and a tiny sprinkle of romance.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Another great book in this wonderful series! I always look forward to another book in this series. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this arc.
This was twisty and fast. Most of the book I was a bit twisted on a certain storyline. FINALLY that seems to be resolved at the very end. If the author tanks it again I may have a conniption. All in all a fast paced read.
Detective Ellie Reeves has taken some time away after a very demanding case. While taking a hike in the woods, she gets surprised first by a sudden snowstorm and then by falling into a frozen lake. Getting out of the water, she seeks shelter from the storm and gets a second surprise. She discovers the bodies of two little girls frozen in the snow. While Ellie struggles to stay alive, the two men in her life, Ranger Cord and Agent Fox, become worried about her and decide to go searching for her in the woods. They save Ellie's life, and the murder investigation begins to discover what happened to the two little girls, whom no one has reported as missing. A complicated case develops that uncovers secrets that are years old. At the same time, Ellie is still struggling with her feelings for Cord. It's an exciting book, and I can't wait for the next one.
I will always love this series. I started it only a year ago and couldn't wait to read the next installment. Ellie Reeves is the strong female lead character with her own story that continues throughout the books without being distracting. The growth of the characters that appear in this series is well-established without leaving you wondering what happened to them. I can say I did not know who the killer was or the complete story of the women in this book until near the end. Secrets, lies, and trauma bond these women but so does their love for their children. They stop at nothing to protect their children even if it means sacrificing their safety. Thank you, NetGalley for this advanced copy for review.
This is sharp, beautifully written and incredibly powerful. I have been completely pulled in from very early on in this one. It has definitely been a book that is bound to be a success.
Another excellent Detective Ellie Reeves novel.
Written in, short, bite size chapters which helps with the ease of reading. There are murders and assaults around every corner and the plot accelerates right
from the very start.
This is very much a page turner, traumatic at time and yet you get caught up with the thrill of the chase.
I’m not sure that detective work is the best thing for this team as they seem to get injured with every case they have!
I look forward to the next novel.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Bookouture and Rita Herron for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.
Trigger warning: The Ice Sisters covers topics of infertility and child loss.
The Ice Sisters is a blend of cosy crime and suspenseful whodunnit. Despite being the tenth in the series, it’s the first of Detective Ellie Reeves’ books that I’ve read but I was able to jump right in and pick up on any previous storylines with ease, so don’t let it being the tenth book put you off.
The story grips you from the start and the way the victims were found made me want to read on. It takes place around Thanksgiving and I loved the cosy, festive feel of it, even if it’s a story about murder and I read it in September.
It was also relatively easy to read and the victims/potential victims were well interwoven. The storyline peeled back the context to each character very well and it meant you slowly put the pieces together. I did struggle to keep up with which character was which at the beginning because there were quite a few introduced and there wasn’t much physical description, however I think this might have been intentional as it became easier as we learnt more about them.
I enjoyed the pacing throughout the book, as more background information was teased to us while more things were happening in the case, but I felt the conclusion and ending was rushed.
In my opinion, there were also a few too many rhetorical questions or short, blunt sentences used to end chapters. They have their place but I found this to be quite repetitive.
On the whole I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more of the Ellie Reeves series. If you enjoy a cosy crime novel, The Ice Sisters is for you.
I typically have a knack for guessing who the killer is. I got one part right but I didn’t guess it completely so gold star to Rita Herron for that!
Thank you netgalley for the ARC. From page one it's fast paced and keeps your interest in the characters and the story. At the start it what is going on here maybe this nope. Keeps you guess and ends in a way you would expect but not expect at the same time.
The Ice Sisters (Detective Ellie Reeves Book 10) by Rita Herron is a gripping crime thriller packed with suspense.
The author weaves a tale of a woman who believes she is being stalked, only to come home and find the word liar scrawled in lipstick on her bathroom mirror. As the story unfolds, two girls attempt to escape a menacing figure, and the tension escalates further when a blizzard hits on Thanksgiving day.
The short chapters are action-packed and filled with heightened tension, making the book unputdownable and binge-worthy. The author’s atmospheric descriptions and credible characters bring the story to life. The plot wasfilled with suspense and foreshadowing, but the resolution felt a bit rushed and weak. The reasoning behind the killings seemed a bit contrived for me.
My only complaint is several repeated gestures from Derrick and another character where they continually “pulled a hand down his chin.” For some reason, this repetition bothered me and pulled me out of the story at times.
Overall, this book had lots of tangled webs of deceit and lies; however, it was a bit weak on the plot and reasoning behind the killings.

Another enjoyable read in the Ellie Reeves series. This may be a difficult read for some due to the topic of women and children at risk but it is handled with sensitivity. It is well written, fast paced with plenty of suspense and a few twists along the way. I liked the ending as I am sure other readers will too! Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
This is the story with conspiracy and mystery with complicated twists, making it difficult to solve the case. The characters are realistic, and you cannot tell who is lying and what the lie is. This is not only a whodunit, but a whydunit as well because the web of secrecy is multifaceted. The ending was completely unexpected. The question we have for the Ellie and Cord relationship is answered. This is a good read, and Rita Herron knows how to write a great thriller.
Great detective series, unique around the Appalachian Trail with interesting locals and treacherous landscape. Strong female lead with a great team and complex plots that will keep you turning the page. And this one has a bonus, but no spoilers here ...
This story is a real race against time. Ellie has a real feat on her hands. Not only does she have to work out why these beautiful children were murdered she has to work out who might be next on this sadistic killer's hit list. I think I read probably half this book with my heart in my mouth. I certainly didn't have any fingernails left by halfway through.
As well as being and enticing and exciting thriller this is a very emotive story. It would be a very hard hearted individual who would not by moved by the murder of two innocent children. So as well as preparing the midnight oil you should arm yourself with a box of tissues. Trust me you are going to need them. Often by this point in a series of books the author seems to run out of ideas but that is certainly not the case here, I think this might be the strongest book yet.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
Picking up where the last book left off, Detective Ellie Reeves has taken some time off to sort through her personal life. She's promised her parents that she'll be back by Thanksgiving. When she doesn't arrive for the Thanksgiving meal, her parents alert Captain Hale (her boss), Derrick Fox (FBI), and Cord McClain (search and rescue). They find Ellie nearly frozen, covering the bodies of young twin girls. After Ellie recovers, she throws herself into finding who would harm these young girls, as well as locating their parents. However in true Rita Herron fashion, nothing is as it seems. Parents are missing, and other little girls are in danger. Ellie knows in her heart she needs to stop this monster. The case takes front stage in the Ice Sisters - and it's absolutely fantastic!!! And where Ms. Herron ends this one, WOWZA. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book; the opinions expressed are my own.
The Ice Sisters by Rita Herron is the 10th book in the Detective Ellie Reeves Series. The story is a complex web of mystery and intrigue with numerous complicated twists and red herrings, making it difficult to predict its outcome. The people and events are realistic and relatable. The web of mystery is intricate and multi-layered. The conclusion was completely unexpected. Excellent addition to the series.
Thank you to Rita Herron, Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
