his audiobook is a hilarious and insightful journey that had me laughing out loud while also reflecting on the complexities of life and relationships. Lancaster’s sharp wit and relatable storytelling shine through in every chapter. The characters are wonderfully flawed and authentic, making them feel like friends you can’t help but root for—even when they make questionable choices! I loved how the narrative explores the idea of what it means to be an "anti-hero," and it really resonated with me.
The narrator did an incredible job bringing the characters to life, infusing each scene with just the right amount of humor and emotion. I found myself completely immersed in their world, and the pacing kept me engaged from start to finish. The mix of laugh-out-loud moments and poignant reflections made it a truly enjoyable listen.
If you’re looking for an audiobook that combines humor, heart, and a touch of sass, "The Anti-Heroes" is a must-listen! It’s the perfect companion for a long drive or a cozy afternoon at home. Grab your headphones and get ready for a delightful ride! 💖🎉
Entertaining and enjoyable. A recommended purchase for collections where lighter women's fic is popular.
I really enjoyed this fun/easy audiobook. It was told from dual POV and had dual narrators which I especially appreciated.
Not the audio book for me, and not the story for me, either. One of the narrator's voices really bothered me, and the two of them took on a whole lot of characters.
Emily and Liv are both stuck in their lives, and in alternating chapters describe all the things that are wrong. It's pretty obvious to the reader/listener.
They end up in a group of characters who are involved in a robbery and then join a Fearless group.
Too much going on, too many conspiracy theories, I didn't understand the epilogue at all. I might have been able to get into this a little more if I'd been reading it, but I'm not sure.
The Anti-Heroes was a fun read. I appreciated the author's insight into facing your fears and fighting for yourself. well done
Thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book was published October 1, 2024.
This is the 18th book I’ve read by the hilarious Jen Lancaster. I have to say her autobiographical memoirs were so fun but I have not liked her more recent fiction books.
This book started off good and ended strong but the middle 85% was slow and boring. The story begins in a coffee shop in Chicago where there is an attempted robbery that was stopped by a mom with a stroller. The customers who were there later bond over the event and begin taking “Fearless” classes. What they learn is something more - the power of community and being seen.
The audiobook was especially fun for the character of Taylor, who always ended her sentences as if she was asking a question. However, as the chapters alternated between Liv and Emily, the recording speeds wasn’t consistent so I was constantly switching my playback speed, depending on whose point of view the chapter was being told from.
Taylor Swift fans will like all the references.
Jen Lancaster is usually a failsafe for me. Both Midwest women with pit bulls and a love of John Hughes movies? She’s had my heart since day one. But I could not get into this book no matter how many times I picked it up and tried to love it. I’m sorry!
Great book for the people pleasers. I loved the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the story. The book tackles some tough topics but keeps it light hearted as well.
Thank you to NetGalley, Brilliance Audio and Jen Lancaster for the chance to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.
If you live for the sole purpose of seeking out Swiftie-isms in others- you will love this book. BUT if that's not for you- the Swiftie-ness isn't all in your face all the time, as you might expect from a Swift lyric title. You'll be fine.
This story is snarky and fun. There's self-actualization, found family and boundary setting.
The narration was done well but I will state that the dual narration didn't hit as hard as the two narrators' voices weren't distinct enough.
Two friends, Emily and Liv, are feeling stuck. They meet for a chat at a local coffee shop and are dazzled when a mom thwarts an attempted robbery with a stroller. Hearing that she learned her skills at something called Fearless Inc, the duo, and other coffee shop goers sign up.
The mysterious instructor, Zeus, is unorthodox in his approach, but somehow knows each person's particular hang up and divines a way to nudge them along.
Emily begins to again find her passion for eco-advocacy and Liv learns to stand up for herself. Other members of the group also grow in their own ways.
Honestly this is a silly book, lots of fluff and little stuff, but it's fun. I was charmed by Zeus's love of Taylor Swift and all the other quirks each character brings.
Fans of Ali Brady's The Comeback Summer will love this redemption story! I loved the idea behind the FMCs regaining their inner strength through the series of challenges. I was a bit confused by the ending, though. I must have missed something throughout. I am so happy to have another release by Jen Lancaster! She's an all-time fave of mine.
I love Jen Lancaster’s snarky writing and while the story in this one isn’t my favorite, the characters in this one more than make up for the mish-mash of themes. I enjoyed the Gen Xer poking fun at the millennials struggling to cope with the next generation but once Emily and her friends joined the class, the story kind of lost me. Still, the characters, as varied as they all are, really shine through and Jen Lancaster’s trademark humor balance the story well.
