Unfortunately this book was not for me. I see that Goodreads mentions an unexpected pregnancy during the last line of the description, however the description on both Amazon & NetGalley does not mention that trope. Those two places have the same description and while it is similar to Goodreads overall, it does not mention the unexpected pregnancy trope that this book includes.
The author did write in a Goodreads review that there’s an unintended pregnancy but the child isn’t on-page except being mentioned in the epilogue and I do think that may help some people who don’t love that trope still pick this up. However I personally have no desire to read about pregnancy at all, and would not have requested it from NetGalley had the description on there reflected this like it did on Goodreads. I wish I had read that description instead.
Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*Hard to Get* by Laura Moher is a romance that pulls you in with its electric chemistry and takes you on a journey of emotional healing and personal growth. The story centers around Andi Salazar, a woman who is as strong and compassionate as she is complicated. By day, she runs a local women’s shelter in her small town, offering support to women affected by abuse and violence, but by night, she transforms into a bold, confident singer who uses her performances as an outlet for the parts of herself she usually keeps hidden. When Andi hits the stage, she leaves behind her doubts and fears, stepping into a version of herself that's unapologetically powerful and free. It's during one of these performances that she catches the eye of Kevin Mahoney, a recently arrived math teacher at Galway High. Kevin is dealing with the aftermath of a breakup that left him questioning who he is—he’s trying to shed the image of being “too vanilla” and figure out what it really means to be himself.
When Andi and Kevin meet, the chemistry between them is instant, sparking an intense and steamy connection that leaves Kevin wanting more. What starts as a chance encounter quickly evolves into something deeper. As they spend more time together, their relationship shifts from physical attraction to a true emotional bond. Kevin begins to open up to Andi in ways he never has before, and Andi starts to trust him in a way that feels both scary and liberating. What seemed like a casual fling soon grows into something much more powerful, leading both of them to confront their emotional baggage and question what they truly want from each other—and from themselves. Just when they think they have it all figured out, an unexpected twist challenges them both, pushing their relationship to new heights.
But *Hard to Get* is about more than just the romance. It’s about healing, trust, and the struggle to open up after trauma. Andi’s past is heavy with scars from both family and work. Her role at the shelter puts her face to face with the pain of others, but it’s also a reflection of her own struggles. She grew up with a grandmother who taught her to distrust men and relationships, and for years Andi built walls around herself, afraid of letting anyone in. Yet as her bond with Kevin deepens, she starts to confront her past, realizing that love and vulnerability don’t have to be dangerous. Slowly, she begins to see that trust and connection might be the very things she needs to heal.
Moher handles the heavy themes of abuse, sexual assault, and trauma with incredible care, weaving them into the narrative in a way that feels authentic and poignant. She paints a realistic picture of how trauma can shape someone’s life and relationships, and how healing requires more than just time—it requires the courage to face painful memories and take a chance on love. While some readers might feel the pacing is uneven or have a hard time with the author’s style in certain moments, many find the book to be a powerful emotional experience with characters they can truly relate to. Andi’s journey, especially, is one that resonates deeply, as she learns to break free from the walls she’s built and trust someone who might just be her key to healing.
For those who love romances that dive deep into personal growth, healing, and overcoming past wounds, *Hard to Get* is a must-read. It delivers all the heart-pounding chemistry you want in a romance, but it also leaves you with a powerful message about self-empowerment, the importance of trusting again, and the possibility of building a future based on love. Whether you’re drawn to the emotional depth or the undeniable spark between Andi and Kevin, this book offers a story that’s both heartfelt and full of undeniable chemistry, making it a great pick for anyone looking for a romance that’s both meaningful and steamy.

This is a beautiful book! It hit me in all the feels. It's so good and definitely worth the emotional rollercoaster. Andi is a very relatable character. I felt seen while reading her story. If you like heartfelt romance books then I highly recommend this!
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for allowing me to read this book ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.

The just wasn’t my cup of tea. I had a hard time connecting to the characters. The plot was jumpy and didn’t flow in a way that made sense; it was almost frantic. I also couldn’t get into some of the wording the author uses, especially during the intimacy parts. It just didn’t work for me.

This book did me in. I loved the main characters and the story was heartfelt and entertaining. I thought the writing was very good. I'd love more from this author! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Hard to Get is a perfect feel-good romance with relatable characters, sizzling chemistry, and a heartwarming journey toward self-discovery and love. Whether you’re a fan of small-town romance or just looking for a book that’ll make you smile, this one checks all the boxes.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

Important topics as Andi is surrounded by abuse in the family and her career - abusive grandfather, abusive father, working to help domestic violence and sexual assault victims - and although from good intent - ultimately raised by a grandmother who instilled a mistrust of all men, all relationships, and made her feel she needed to be alone and hide herself at all times, which is a different type of abuse and controlling by fear. Important messaging on sexual assault and abuse and in learning to trust.
