Thank you so much to North Star Editions / Jolly Fish Press and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
A little boy just wants to curl up and read whilst it’s raining heavy outside, but he must do errands with his mom. To get through it he goes into his imagination with his three friends and the pesky weeples.
This was such an adorable and imaginative story, I really liked that to cope with the situation he didn’t want to be in he used his imagination to take him somewhere more fun for his mind. It helped him get through what he didn’t want to do and he had a fun adventure with his friends instead.
I liked the creativeness of his imagination taking us to his three different animal friends, the house they lived in and the added weeples that are pesky and get everywhere but won’t go away no matter what they tried.
It was such a fun read, really funny and creative, the illustrations were fun to look at very bright, especially the weeples which I liked as they stood out. I think children reading this will find it really funny, and it will help them know on a rainy day they can go anywhere they want if they use their imagination.
Although the theme of the story was motivational. I believe that the message can be a bit confusing to the readers. Specifically, the art is not consistent in style and neither is the text font. This could be troubling readers when comprehending.
I love this book! My main takeaway from this book is just how important humor is in life. I have zero doubt that this message will be clearly conveyed to young readers as well. Although it's portrayed subtly, it's still present and unmistakable. It's impressive how the author found the perfect balance between getting a point across and putting the main story in the spotlight. Major kudos to the author for that!
Another great thing was the plot. There was a clear structure, which allows everything to flow really well. I didn't feel over- or underwhelmed when reading, and i was engaged from start to finish.
As for the illustrations, they definitely took the central theme of emotion and allowed it to shine through in every image, on every page. This is another element that helped to get a point across to the reader.
Lastly, this idea is unique, creative, and fun! It takes a common idea but adds a freshness to it that is always great to see.
Bravo!
Rain, Rain by Josh Banday is a good book in terms of its plot and story line. It's a story of a boy who loves to enjoy hot cocoa in rainy day, but his mother takes him out. He finds escape in his raincoat and enjoys imaginary world.
As mentioned in the introduction that this book is not yet finalize so I would suggest the author to minimize the pages and take out clutter from the art/images of the book.
A very cute story about a boy who, unfortunately, had to go out in the rain.
Relatable for any age, the little boy in this story just wants to stay home and enjoy the rain. He wants a cup of hot chocolate and to curl up with a book.
Instead he has to go on errands with his mom. He is getting wet and can't take it anymore, and hides in his raincoat. Inside, there is an imaginary world and he finds solace until the sun comes out!
I received an electronic ARC from North Star Editions through NetGalley.
This young boy warms my heart. He would prefer to stay inside and not go out in the rain but he has to run errands with his mom. While they ride on the bus, he escapes inside his raincoat to his imaginary home. To his surprise. Weeples have taken over the space. Together with his imaginary friends, he manages to clear his home and have a nice visit. When he returns, the sun has come out. The illustrations capture his emotions and imagination. They add context to the story. Younger readers will connect with his desire to sip hot cocoa and be inside. A fun read aloud for families and classes.
Rain, Rain is about a little boy who wants to curl up at home and stay out of the rain. His mother has other ideas. After putting on their raincoats, they venture outside. Rain pours down from every direction, aggravating the little boy. After sitting on a bus stop bench with his mother, the boy has an idea. As he curls up in his raincoat, he imagines he is in an imaginary house filled with creatures. The house is overrun by dozens of weebles. Weebles are causing chaos and they are doing everything they can to contain them. It is impossible to contain the weebles because they are too smart. Until one of the weebles spills a pot of tea and they start laughing. It causes the weebles to POOF and disappear as a result of their laughter. The rain eventually stops and the boy emerges from under his raincoat to see the sun shining. Through his imaginative adventure, the boy learned that sometimes laughter and a positive attitude can help turn a dreary situation into something enjoyable. Instead of being frustrated by the rain, he discovered the power of creativity and humor to transform his perspective. This experience taught him that even in challenging circumstances, finding joy can make everything more bearable.
A cute, quick picture book that reminds us laughter can be the best medicine. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is one that all ages can enjoy.
(2.5) Illustrations are cute - but my 4.5 year old wasn’t enthused - the storyline is really random and kinda all over the place. I personally wouldn’t buy this one but thank you NetGalley for the arc!
A cute and silly picutre book brimming with imagination. I thoroughly enjoyed diving into the raincoat with the main character and enjoyed all the weeples running around in the house. If you're looking for a funny, imaginative, and quick read you should pick up this book!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchane for my unbiased opinion.
I love the childlike illustrations. The font styling is fun, highlighting key words in color. Things like "wet" and "cold" look truly wet and cold on the page. Lots of big words to help kids learn. I could see this being used in a classroom or storytime setting to read a loud to a group of younger children, probably kindergarten thru first graders would love it.
Super cute concept for a children’s book because what young person isn’t fascinated by rain! It was a tad older for my daughter, but we enjoyed reading it and continuing our own imaginary play on rainy days.
Thanks for the arc North Star Editions.
A children’s story of escapism, finding comfort, imagination and adventure, it had moments that made me smile, especially around the drinking cocoa and eating cheese for comfort and I thought the laughing to get rid of the weepels was fun.
Thank-you Netgally, Jolly Fish Press and Josh Banday for this ARC E-book Copy to read, in exchange for an honest review.
Great illustrations, and a sweet, escape-ist story for when Mom makes you run ERRANDS. I liked the message of making the incorrigible weeples pop by laughing - a good way to reframe their out of control-ness. And when you come back from your escape, sometimes the sun has come out. Fun for little readers.
This is a silly and imaginative book that I think kids will really enjoy. Who doesn’t want to escape away from the rain and have hot chocolate and cheese? I can’t blame him! Pictures are fun and sure to make kids giggle.
This is a sweet little book about a child making an imaginary world to get out of the rain. Running errands with mom in the rain is not something this child likes, so she crawls into her raincoat and imagines a house with her friends and weeples. The weeples reminded me of the old Star Trek show “ the trouble with tribbles” . I did like the illustrations, but they seemed confusing at times. All and all, a cute story. I did like the multiple uses of words, such as laughing. As a speech pathologist, I am always on the lookout for books that can build vocabulary in young students
What an absolutely beautiful and fun, quick adventure book about imagination, problem-solving & Weeples!?
So Much fun! Loved it!
Thank you NetGalley and North Star Editions for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I am not sure if this was the formatting of the book on Kindle, but this book did not make any sense. I was interested in learning about the small creatures, but unfortunately was confused about the plot.
This is a sweet little book. The child in the story goes on an imaginary adventure to get out of the rain. The illustrations are wonderful. Reading this book aloud could also be a starting point, followed by activities to do on a rainy day. Recommended!
Thank you, Netgalley, Josh Banday, and North Star Editions for the ebook! What a great children's book! My daughter loved this and I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Imaginative and funny and great illustrations!
