Picking up seamlessly from where we left Ivy, this installment invites readers to dive deeper into a world filled with mystery, tension, and unexpected alliances within the castle walls. The author has masterfully crafted Ivy’s journey as she grapples with her new circumstances, compelling readers to closely accompany her in deciding who to trust in a beautifully intricate environment.
The character development in this book is nothing short of outstanding. Each character shines with their unique personality and distinct motivations, adding rich layers to the unfolding narrative. You can’t help but feel for Ivy as she decodes her father’s clues and embraces new friendships which illustrate the importance of trust and resilience. This was the second book in Sara Knightly's Everlight series, and getting this arc prompted me to go find the first one. I thoroughly enjoyed them both and highly recommend this series! I loved this audiobook, and would recommend for anyone, appropriate for teens and YA readers.

Thank you to NetGalley for this audiobook eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Castle Ever Dark is an intriguing continuation to a great series! We continue to follow Ivy as her life in the castle brings forth so many questions. A forbidden romance blossoms between her and Jack. I have been enjoying the series very much and can’t wait for book 3. However, I did rate this second book lower than the first. In my opinion it was less exciting. I also found the scenes dealing with human experimentation heard to listen to. I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in trade for my honest opinion. My thoughts are my own.

Faster paced than the first book in the series, I finished listening to the second wanting to know what happens next! I listened to the audio book and Kim Churchill did a fabulous job with the voices and keeping the listener engaged.

A really interesting series with gothic undertones. A brooding count, questionable scientific ‘research’, magical abilities, messages left from the dead to solve and evolving friendships.

Fabulous YA series that I would gladly recommend to readers.

4.5 stars … this book had me interested the whole time !!! I received from NetGalley after the release date and I’m so glad I was able to read this. Ivy tries to figure out what is really going on in the castle. Lots of twists and turns that keep you captivated. You don’t know who to trust or what’s going to happen next!! Fantasy meets mystery meets thriller . So good. Cannot wait to read the next book … I need more!!!

I went into this book not knowing anything about it. I didn't know it was a sequel in a series. I didn't have to stop and listen to the first book to understand what was going on. It did well on recapping book 1 while keeping the story moving. The pace was good and kept my attention. The fantasy was interesting, and the climax was good. The end of the book sets up for book 3. I don't recall any sex or mature language.

I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was another amazing book! It is very young adult and slow burn but we do get some yummy kisses and foot touches. I loved the friendships. Ivy was still a bit annoying. Asking the wrong questions and kind of going down one path than immediately forgetting that path and going somewhere else. The ending was nerve wracking but ended good with everyone together and a slight cliffhanger. I hope we get more Jack and Ivy in the next and more answers!

OH THIS WAS A GOOOOD SEQUEL! I'm soooo ready for book 3!

Cannot wait to find out more answers and just explore this world more. I still love the characters. I really loved the setting of the castle and the dark creepy forest, soo good!

I do wish the ending was drawn out a bit more since it felt slightly rushed, but other than that it was well paced, and easy to follow.

I really love this narrator, Kim Churchill does such an incredible job setting the vibe for the book. Really great voices for all the different characters.

The covers in "The Everlight Series" aren't the only stunning part of the story. "Castle Ever Dark" picks up where "Secrets Ever Green" left off, and it has a much more ominous feel to it than the first book did.

These stories would not work as standalones. My biggest complaint at the end of "Secrets Ever Green" was that it had a cliffhanger ending, and true to form, so does "Castle Ever Dark." That wouldn't be so bad if readers knew that in advance and knew how many books to expect in the series. But as it stands now, we're dropped off in the middle of a hurried escape with the Count in hot pursuit and no real answers in sight yet as to what happened to Ivy's father all those years ago.

But what we do get to see is Ivy Rune coming into her own as she finally discovers her purpose and how to marshal her power. The castle has held many more secrets than she had ever imagined, and the only way to ensure her safety and that of those she loves is to bide her time, learn everything she can, and be ready to take swift action when the time comes.

New characters are introduced (some trustworthy and others not), and old ones are rediscovered. There are a few in here that you'll love to hate and maybe one or two you'll hate to love.

As far as fantasies go, this one has everything you could want with great characters, do or die situations, rocks and hard places, a bit of romance, and a sprinkle of magic too.

I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Thank you to Sara Knightly, Portal Publishing, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Thank you for the audio book!

Loved this story! However the main character I got a bit frustrated with at times, she would come to a realization but continue to act as if that realization had never happened. The setting was unique and comfortable and the plot line itself was really interesting. I loved the romance. I just feel like I would’ve got into the story easier if I had read book number one but that is on me. I overall really enjoyed it and I’d recommend.

Ill be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 10th September and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of October.

Ivy Rune, an orphaned young woman, was raised to fear the Count and his castle. Due to circumstances outside of her control, she is forced to settle into the castle as her new home. She has been summoned to become the assistant to Dr. Ply, the Count’s scientist, a position former held by her recently departed father. No one ever returns home after working in the castle, will she manage to survive? Ivy must learn quickly to navigate her unfamiliar environment and endure the dark, cold, and lifeless castle.
Oops, I started with Book #2 in a series. I never (almost never) do this as I am usually disappointed in myself for reading a series out of order; however, this was a pleasant surprise. I was able to understand the characters almost instantly and when someone new was introduced, the backstory was easily woven into the tapestry of the present day. I admire how the author seamlessly immerses you into the world of Ivy Rune without feeling the need to read the book cover to understand the setting.
I will be reading the first book and look forward to a third book.
