The emotional depth of their connection, combined with the genuine joy and pain of their journey, made this a truly unforgettable read. Watching them navigate their feelings while grappling with the realities of their lives and choices was both heart-wrenching and heartening. This isn’t just a romance; it’s a profound exploration of life’s fragility and the powerful impact of love. I really loved and enjoyed it.
It's difficult for me to say but because I have to I will. The roommate pact has to shift to number 2 on my list because Elliot and Jamie won the competition this time. They are now my number 1 Allison Ashley couple!!!!
This was a story with a setup I have never read before but have close experience with because I am myself a healthcare worker. And in the beginning I thought, oh god this book has - on surface - two tropes I usually steer away from - insta lust and cheating.
But Allison deserves an applause for not writing those two tropes at all even though it would have fit. It wasn't insta lust at all, it was an insta connection - which was so well done because of the good conversations and banter. Nothing felt rushed. The tension was worth it and I was swooning so hard.
Similarly, the book had to draw a line between integrity and emotional cheating and it did well. At no point did I feel disrespected on behalf of any character - even Carly, and that is a huge win in my book. I am in awe of Allison's writing style - she brings out the deepest of emotions entwined with tension and love and just a wholesome story.
This being a fade to black book also was bonus tbh, it was everything I needed. As soon as I saw it was available on Netgalley I ran and I am sooooo glad I did because this is legit one of my favourite books I have read this year!!!
I love Allison Ashley’s writing and this book is the perfect example of why. It is heartfelt, humorous, engaging and a quick binge. She uses her knowledge of working in the medical field and brings this background into her work. I applaud her always for handling tough topics with tenderness and care and giving readers hope. Elliot and Jamie were two characters I fell in love with instantaneously. Their instant connection, laugh out loud banter and unconditional support for the other made them a standout couple. So much of the story and their obstacles felt so real, and the slow burn element was done perfectly considering what Elliot was dealing with and Jamie’s other relationship. I totally fell in love with the new world Allison Ashley created and will never see cheesecake as anything but a tart now.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this advance readers copy in exchange for my honest feedback. Really enjoyed this one. I fell in love with both Elliott and Jamie. Beautiful chemistry and written well.
Allison Ashley has been an auto buy author ever since I read Would you Rather. Elliot and Jamie’s love story was passionate and sweet. I love a romance with a little more depth and this did not dissapoint!
4 stars
Allison Ashley is the queen of writing cancer romcoms (it sounds weird but hear me out!) I love the way she’s able to blend such serious topics with such cute, sweet romances. Her characters are always such sweet cinnamon rolls, which is my fave.
This book steered a little bit more into contemporary fiction rather than just romance but the buildup to the relationship was still really well done and the payoff was worth it. This book focused a lot on Elliott learning to live on her own for the first time after going into remission for cancer.
There was a little bit of a love triangle in this book, which I know a lot of people hate, but I think it was done well and there was no cheating so you don’t have to worry about that.
I really enjoyed the characters and this story and would definitely recommend this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC!
Ugh, don’t read this if you want to feel all the feels. You’ll laugh, cry, wait for the other shoe to drop, be a little mad, everything. Allison Ashley writes beautiful, real-feeling romances with a medical twist. The characters are all pretty likable. Jamie may be my new book boyfriend. What a catch! If you’re a fan of Katherine Center’s books, I think you need to come onboard the Allison Ashley train. This story is closed door, light to no cursing, 100% romance.
Thank you Montlake for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
A five star story. I could not have loved this book more! I devoured it over two days. The characters are unique and their feelings come right off the pages and into your heart. I was fully invested in the outcome. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. I want all of my romance-loving bookish besties to read this so we can discuss!
This book was absolutely perfect!!!! I don’t know how to properly explain the way this made me feel and how much I love these characters 😭
Allison has a way of writing where you feel everything the characters are feeling. When they’re happy, you’re happy. When they’re sad, you’re sad. I literally felt the anguish and passion right alongside our main characters.
Their connection was instantaneous and you could feel it from the moment they met. I could not put the book down — I needed to keep reading to find out what was gonna happen.
I also think this type of plot can very easily go south, but Allison wrote it perfectly. From the pacing to the plot it was SO good I cannot express this enough
I also love how Allison has medical aspects in her books. She’s so good at it and it feels very real.
