A star suddenly vanishes on a yacht, and naturally, the husband becomes the prime suspect. This is where this captivating book commences, unraveling a web of lies and secrets. However, it’s not always as straightforward as it seems when greed and infatuation are involved. I commend the author for skillfully drawing you in and gradually guiding you toward uncovering the truth. I eagerly anticipate what the future holds!
Unfortunately, even though the story was fine and full of events, the writing made me lose interest so many times. I was not a fan. The writing came off bland and lacked a lot of description that would allow for the reader to get a better idea of what is happening, and be able to picture it. However, I feel like the ratio of descriptions to dialog was severely off balance and it threw me off very often. It is just not the way that I prefer my books to read and this is very much just a personal preference.
Now, the plot and the ideas were good. I liked the constant second guessing that the characters were doing to attempt to find out if Vivienne was actually dead or if it was a publicity stunt, and then later on they were second guessing a piece of the evidence for a moment. It really keeps the reader engaged during those times and wondering if the way that the story is going, is how it will actually end or if there will be a major plot twist. I will say though, I did not really fall for these moments but they were well done attempts.
Thank you to Russel Wate, Cranthorpe Millner Publishers, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book. This is my honest review.

Unfortunately, this one was a DNF for me at 22%
The story has so much promise, but I just cannot get past the way it is written. It’s very formal, which isn’t a bad thing, but it just makes it a struggle to read.
Definitely not for me, but I’m sure many readers will love this one!
This was a strong fourth entry in the DCI McFarlane series, it had that element that I wanted and enjoyed from the other three books. The characters had that element that I was looking for and thought the concept was perfect for this series. Russell Wate has a great way of telling the story and wanted more in this series.
