I really tried to enjoy this one, but I just couldn't. It wasn't working for me. I had super high hopes with that cover and the premise but I just didn't find myself being interested in picking it back up. I had to DNF.
This was a great book! So many twists! I didn’t want to put it down when reading it! I read it in one weekend and neglected my laundry! Looking forward to reading more from this author.✍️
THE HOOK/APPEAL: She kept to herself but now wants to keep a man, willing or not. He's been handsome his whole life. Pinned against each other, who's the one in power?
THE REVIEW: This actually hooked me at the onset, which isn't easy. Trying to figure out who is the monster (or bigger one) was addicting!
THE RATING: 4.6 rounded
I did complete this book
But struggled with it
I didn't connect with any of the characters
Sorry it was not for me
Thank you Bloodhound, Jocelyn Dexter and netgalley
When I started this book I couldn't put it down but it was so drawn out I ended up getting quite bored.
Ooh what a totally thrilling read. I couldn't put it down. Definitely a page turner
What a read.
Thank you for the opportunity to review
Unfortunately I did not find much to like with this book. I am used to reading dark and twisted books but this was something else, I just found nothing to like about it, not one single character had a redeeming feature and I had an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach whilst reading this.
Whilst the characters needed to be a certain way for the plot, I did feel Dexter took it to an extreme and as a reader I had no-one to root for or care about.
This review would have been 2 stars had it not been for the twists in the latter half which injected some surprise into the plot. Whilst I still did not completely like the second half, it was stronger than the first half.
I just really did not enjoy this book and did not find it to be enjoyable or thrilling.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for an advance copy.
This was definitely a darknbook and I loved it. I couldn't put it down, it had me on the edge of my seat. I loved the multiple POV through out the book. Question is who is the monster is, you will have to read and find out who you think is. Highly recommend for the thriller, dark book readers.
The Playroom by Jocelyn Dexter was an excellent read!
My goodness, this story had me gripped from start to finish. A creepy thriller that turned my stomach at times!
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was very intriguing. It gripped me from the start and I read it in two sittings. It was well written and very descriptive.
Thank You NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
The Playroom by Jocelyn Dexter an addictive psychological thriller which was full of twists and turns and ended up as a roller coaster ride!
I could not turn the pages quick enough to find out what happens next.
Wow this book was so good, I loved it.
I highly recommend this book.
This just wasn’t a book for me. I wasn’t really surprised or thrilled at this book nor did I think it was that dark. Maybe it’s just me and that’s ok. It will have its audience I’m just not in it. But I greatly appreciate the opportunity to read your work.
First book I've read by this author. I read so much hype about this book that I knew I had to read it. A dark read it is too. Jessica and Adam are 2 very unlikeable characters but that added to the story. I felt this was an uncomfortable read but well written
Wow! An exciting page-turner that kept me reading into the night. It’s a dark story about what happens when two deviate minds collide. Jessica wants Max so bad that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to feed his desires-almost! Where will it end? I recommend it for those looking for a dark, twisty ride.
OH WOW - What an excellent read, absolutely adored this book. did not want it to end. the characters were just brilliant and so well written. cannot wait to read more of Jocelyn's work - amazing.
I had high hopes for The Playroom based on the blurb. However, the characters just didn’t connect for me. They were unlikeable, but not in a way that made them interesting or compelling but more annoying. I found myself struggling to root for anyone, which made it hard to stay invested in the story.
The first 3/4 of the book felt like they dragged a bit for me. There were a few twists, but nothing that felt particularly shocking or satisfying. By the time the plot picked up towards the end, it felt rushed, with too much crammed in all at once, leaving me unsatisfied.
Overall, the writing itself was good and it kept me intrigued enough to finish but it was a miss for me. I definitely think I’m in the minority here so would still recommend this to people who like quite an out there thriller. 2.5 stars
This was definitely a very thrilling read, right away it had me hooked and I didn't want to put it down until I knew the answer to 'Who is the victim and who is the monster?'
Loved this book. The main character Jessica is someone who initially is beaten down my convention. She's a larger lady and fed up of being victimised and berated for her weight and the way she looks.
Upon stumbling on Max, a gorgeous specimen of a man she thinks she might be able to change him but there's a dark reason why Max likes his women on the larger side. He is only turned on by fear, something that Jess is able to control and the pair seem to team up, with Jess wanting to give him everything he wants as long as she gets to keep him.
The playroom has some dark themes but is a very entertaining and at times funny read. I could not stop picturing the actress from Baby Reindeer and the comparisons are evident.
Great book and would recommend if you like something darker for the season.

This book was not at all what I thought it would be. It was better. It gave a creepy twist on an already thrilling and dark story. It can even be a bit gory and chilling. It was a great scare.
Jessica wants a man, but getting close to people is hard. She is used to mistreatment because of her weight, and so when she is abducted, she isn't worried. She knows HE will be her new man. Max doesn't get what he expects when he abducts Jessica. He has met his match. Together, these two twisted individuals feed off of each other in the craziest of ways.
Wow. This was indeed one very twisty and crazy book. The characters were captivating and just made you want more. It was hard to put down. I just wanted to know what would happen next. This was a well written and descriptive book that made me stay up late into the night reading. It had a bit of a dark and crazy storyline that makes you say WHAT a lot. Or it did me. So, be warned. Jessica and Max are quite the couple. ;)
*I want to thank Netgalley and the author for this book in return for my honest review*

Boundless Book Review
I'm not going to lie. This book was actually confusing. One moment she is in a restaurant the next in his car. It says she was kidnapped but really she wasn't. Than they both played head games. It wasn't alot of twist and turns and some parts had run on sentences. I know most don't want to hear anything but positive but this is just my feedback of the book. I did delete it from my kindle because I felt it's not fine to keep a book that I honestly didn't like nor could I even connect with the characters.
Thank you # Netgalley for the advanced copy!
Well, I fell for the don't just judge a book by its cover. In this case I looked at the cover and thought this will be something around a child and wow was I wrong! This is not about children! This is about two individuals who try to outwit each other in this case around kidnapping, raping and killing women. This was such an extreme read with disturbing content. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the read and finished it rather quickly, just was heavier content than I was expecting. It did meet that psychological thriller category though!
