The story started off strong, but then it took so many directions that it was hard to keep up with. Are we dealing with ex-cons or ghosts or both?!

This was such a haunting, chilling and pulse-pounding thriller! There were some very graphic and disturbing scenes and it addressed the darkest aspects of mental health, but really was a great read. I really appreciated the author’s note and her personal connection to these issues.

This book was very different than I expected it! This spooky thriller has depth! This book covers multiple mental health topics including postpartum disorders, PTSD, insomnia, and depression just to name a few. It also looks into toxic masculinity and the darker side of police work from the officer and family perspective. Many thrillers don’t cover these issues in the way this one does and the author did it very well.

This book has multiple points of view throughout the story (which I love) and is pretty fast paced. There were a lot of unknowns throughout the book as to what was happening until the end where it is wrapped up nicely. It has some paranormal elements that were a little spooky for me. I could not read this book at night once I got so far in because I was getting creeped out! I had to pull up a romance so I could sleep 🤣.

I was also shocked to learned this is her debut novel, it was well done! I look forward to more books from her in the future! Thank you to @angeladouglasbooks and @risingactionpublishingco for allowing me early access to this one!

This is an incredible debut by an amazing new author, Angela Douglas! Bree is a fascinating character I felt drawn to. I enjoyed the intensity as events played out at a rapid pace. I can say it’s already going to be a favorite thriller of 2025. I’m thrilled for everyone to read this debut when it releases later this month & I can’t wait to see what Douglas delivers next!

Bree and her police officer husband, Jake, live in the crime-ridden city of East Bernheim. When a particular crime hits too close to home, they make the decision to move to a larger old home in a safer neighborhood. Initially, their situation seems to improve, but Bree's pregnancy brings about troubling changes, including disturbing dreams. Bree notices strange happenings in her house, but she brushes them off as her imagination. A neighbor tells Bree that strange things seem to happen in that house every fall.

When tragedy strikes Jake at work, he becomes consumed by guilt and grief, which begins to affect his mental stability. Bree finds herself having to protect their children from Jake, who is increasingly unrecognizable. Both Bree and Jake are haunted by external threats and internal turmoil, leaving their family in a precarious and frightening situation.

MY THOUGHTS: The eerie house, with its frigid rooms and unsettling occurrences, captivated me and kept me eagerly turning the pages of this atmospheric thriller. The drama between Bree and Jake is intense, with their mounting frustrations culminating in an unexpected climax. The narrative unfolds at a steady pace, interspersed with enough action to maintain intrigue throughout. The conclusion presents a chilling reminder that sometimes the greatest threats come not from the outside world but from within our own homes.

Readers who enjoy psychological suspense and domestic drama will enjoy this story which comes highly recommended by my friends @thrillerbookloversthepulse.

I enjoyed reading this twisty thriller that included dark themes of police culture and the effects it can have on family. Throw in some ghosts, and it becomes even more interesting! Once I really got into this book, I couldn’t put it down. It does touch on multiple subjects that may be difficult for some readers. Check the trigger warnings before you proceed if reading about certain types of trauma affects you. If you like traumatic thrillers, I recommend checking this one out. Thank you NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing Co for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a non stop read for me. I looked forward to reading it each day. A couple lives in a bad part of town because the husband is a police officer and must live close to his precinct. When one of his cases gets personal it causes a lot of stress on the family and their marriage. This book has everything from ghosts to chilling criminals to characters you can’t trust. A thrilling book with non stop action!

Every Fall was such an intense thriller with a smidge of paranormal/horror elements and a good chunk of police procedural and I was all for it. I found our main character to be likable and I was sympathetic for her situation, I really wanted to wallop that husband of hers. What a creep. I loved the spooky things happening around the house, it was creepy and I couldn’t wait to figure it all out. I flew through this one in a little less than two days, the pacing was great and the plot had me hooked. I really enjoyed this and would definitely read more from this author. Be sure to check out The Pulse to see what others thought! Thanks to Rising Action Publishing for my eARC. Every Fall will be published January 28th.

A solid thriller with some horror and ghostly elements, COUNT ME IN!! This was well done with relatable characters and an honest, interesting take on the woes and challenges of motherhood and marriage. Very evenly-paced and surprising because I was not at all expecting the paranormal portion of the book. I would absolutely recommend this one.

This was unique with its mix of paranormal, psychological thriller, and police procedural. Following a family trying to get out of the worst parts of town, this was equal parts brutal and heartbreaking. Detailed scenes and descriptive writing pulled me right into the center of it all. I still don't know if I liked the husband, but I really felt for the wife and her determination for her family while being hit with one thing after another. Not only did this portray a struggling family, but it portrayed the effects of post partum depression from a woman and PTSD from a police officer. This really digs itself into you and doesn't let go, even after the last page was turned. Overall, I really was impressed here and give it four stars.

This was a great thriller with some paranormal woven throughout. I loved how realistic this storyline was with that aspect. Bree and Jake have just found out she is pregnant with their second child. Their relationship has been going well and Jake has himself tangled up in a gang case at work. When that case knocks on the front door, they know it's time to finally get out of "the burner" area. Jake has been denied a request to transfer out, so they have to get creative to move but they find the perfect house an hour away. More room for them all, a safe house in a safe neighborhood. But as things start happening, Bree starts questioning her sanity. Did she close that window? Why would she have left it open, it's cool out. Things often are in a different location but she can't remember moving them. Although pregnant, having a small child at home and a husband who now seems to be working longer hours that normal, Bee knows she's stressed. Jake has become more distant and seems repulsed by her lately and often smells of alcohol when he gets home. Things seem worse than when they were in "the burner". When the neighbors next door start to tell Bree about what they are aware of with the history of her house, she starts to do some digging. What she finds shocks her but also starts to give her answers to things, meanwhile things are ramping up with Jake and soon everything will all collide. Will Bree and Jake be able to handle all that's coming yet or will it be the final break? This was such a fast paced read and I really enjoyed the storyline! Thriller Book Lovers has found another amazing debut author. Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the complementary ebook. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

Thanks to @netgalley for my ADC.

This was an ambitious blend of crime thriller, haunted house mystery, and domestic drama that is gripping but occasionally bewildering. The story follows Bree and her husband Jake, a beat cop in East Bernheim, as they navigate the dangers of living in "the Burner," a crime-ridden neighborhood. After crime threatens their home, Jake moves his family to a larger house in a safer area. However, their fresh start quickly unravels into a chilling tale of guilt, grief, and supernatural dread.

The book’s initial crime thriller tone shifts dramatically as Bree begins hearing voices and experiencing strange dreams. When a work tragedy sends Jake into a psychological spiral, his transformation from caring husband to unsettling figure feels abrupt and hard to connect with. While this descent ties into themes of trauma and toxic masculinity, I found the execution confusing and lacking clarity.

However, certain aspects of the execution—especially some of the dialogue—felt stilted and unnatural, pulling me out of the story at key moments. Despite these flaws, the book held my interest, thanks to its layered themes and the haunting atmosphere that grows with every chapter.

If you enjoy genre-blending thrillers that explore the psychological toll of trauma, this book is worth a read—just be ready for an unsettling and hard-to-pin-down journey.

There is no chance that I will ever move to East Bernheim. I feel like every time I stepped out of my door someone would be getting shot, stabbed, or overdosing. This book takes you into the world of "Berner", through a young couple Jake and Bree. Jake is a constable with the local police force. What he sees in a day makes your skin crawl and heart race. His wife Bree is a stay-at-home mom with their young son Riley. The book opens with Bree and Riley walking innocently into a horrifying situation. Bree can no longer take living in this town and needs out...now! When Jake makes the arrest of two brothers, their entire lives begin to fall apart and the danger surrounding their family ticks up.

This is a fast paced, kick you in the gut read. I was constantly yelling at Jake to get his crap together. Stop burying his head in the sand, and I will stop there because I do not want to give away anymore. Just know this book is full of intense scenes that will make the hair on the back of your neck rise. Thank you to Angela Douglas, Rising Action, and Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse for my gifted copy.

I love a book that grabs your attention from the very first page, and "Every Fall" does just that! I couldn’t put it down; I needed to know what was going to happen next. I appreciate the way the story blends elements of reality and the paranormal; they flow together beautifully. Angela Douglas is going to be an author Ill be watching for in the future as this debut thriller was fabulous and I'm excited to see her next books will be like.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.

Interesting thriller with paranormal element. I liked the plot. It was suspenseful, mysterious, and imaginative. The suspense buildup kept me going, trying to figure out what happened. Bree and Jake, both characters, are well written. Haunted house, vivid nightmares, with underlying theme of PTSD and PPD. Effects of undetected trauma are severe. A good read. Fast-paced. Keeps you guessing til the end. Climax is satisfying. Recommended. Thanks a lot to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.

Thank you to ThrillerBookLovers The Pulse, Rising Action, #partner, for an advanced e- copy of Every Fall in exchange for my honest review.

This book totally took me by surprise. It’s a dark read, which I did expect, after seeing it comped to Karin Slaughter, but man, is this one unsettling and chilling. There are layers upon layers to this story and it is one that I know I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. I felt so many emotions reading this and while I didn’t always love either of the main protagonists, I always wanted the best for them. Both Jake and Bree are so complex, each battling their own demons, that it is no wonder their marriage is struggling. And then, the new house that should bring peace, brings a whole set of new issues, and more suspense to an already suspenseful story. ⁣

Completely atmospheric, tense and with just the right amount of supernatural vibes, this book grabbed hold of me & did let up at all…once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. I love when settings play a major part in the story and that couldn’t be more true than in this book. ⁣

For a debut novel, Angela Douglas hit it out of the park with this novel and I cannot wait to see what she writes next!

Thank you to Rising Action Publishing and Angela Douglas for the ARC! When my friends at The Pulse were raving about this book, I couldn’t wait to check it out!

This was a book that I had to sit and reflect on before reviewing. There was just SO much going on, and not in a bad way! I just wanted to make sure I gave every aspect the attention it deserves.

As a mother who suffered from PPD/PPA, I related a lot to our FMC. I can’t imagine navigating that while in the situation she was in. I really didn’t like our MMC; while I understood the stress he was under from his job, none of that excused the way he treated his wife. I really appreciated the way the author did shine a light on the pressure police officers and their families face daily. She did a brilliant job at portraying PPD and PTSD; how they both affect just about every aspect of a family and just how strong a mother could be. The dual perspectives made it easy to really be in the character’s headspace.

The setting also played a big part in this story. From the unsafe, crime ridden neighborhood where the family initially lived and the MMC worked, to their new house that had a creepy presence, there was a feeling of dread permeating the story. That coupled with a fast-paced plot, this story was addictive and impossible to put down! I look forward to reading what this author comes out with next!

I was immediately drawn into the story, unable to put the book down as the suspense built with every chapter. The twists were clever and unpredictable, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout; what a thrilling ride.

Every Fall is a Canadian thriller, full stop. No justifications or explanations are needed.

Angela Douglas brings the tension and suspense of Burner to life—the small town’s addiction and crime and the consequences they cause are equally heart-racing and heartbreaking.

Favourite character alert - Tammy. Her humour and relationship with Bree is one of my favourite parts of the book.

Jake, Jake, Jake..... He can be tough to root for, but ultimately, that’s what makes him an interesting character. The scene at home where he starts to unravel (you’ll know it when you read it) brings our fear and emotions.

I look forward to reading more books by @angeladouglasbooks ! Add this one to your #2025tbr

I'll be honest, if this wasn't an ARC review, I would have stopped reading in the first 10% of the book. It did get more interesting as the book went on but the writing still felt mediocre.

There's a lot happening in this book and it touches on a lot of heavy topics. Please check the content warnings before reading. I can appreciate that topics like PTSD and PPD and mental health in general were discussed. However, it was too much in my opinion. It felt like the author put every idea they've ever had into one book and it lacked focus. Additionally, not a single character was likable. They were all super annoying and lacked any depth at all.

I'm being petty here, but I hate that this book was in any way compared to Karin Slaughter and that the cover has nothing to do with the storyline.
