Meeting and marrying quickly with a baby on the way, Bree knew a cops wife wasn’t going to be a piece of cake, but she wasn’t prepared for how hard it would actually be. When their lives are threatened by drug dealing thugs, Bree is anxious to move. Finding a beautiful, old home with everything they wanted seemed like a dream come true…but…when of things started to happen, Bree is not so sure about anything anymore. Pregnant with her second baby, she’s unsure if it’s hormones or if she’s going crazy. It only escalates after the birth. Jake is not the same person she married and when tragedy strikes on the job, Jake goes off the deep end. With all the odd occurrences, are they safe in the old house? Who is the woman in the window? Is Jake having an affair? Will they even survive? This was a dual read/listen and it was nice to have two narrators (Jake and Bree). The tension builds as the plot unfolds, but the overall story was on the unbelievable side. Thank you to Simon and Schuster, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for and ARC and ALC of this book.

This was a quick good thriller following our FMC and her cop husband after they move into a new house and tragedy strikes. I read this pretty quickly and it was a good read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Let me start off by saying I've never read a book like this. I loved how the author was able to connect the stress and exhaustion that comes with being a mother and a police officer and the paranormal activities in the house. It was a perfect analogy.

The book was also different because what the mcs, Bree, and Jake were feeling in their lives was shared firsthand, and I got the whole experience. I don't think I've read something as raw as this. It was that good. The book started without any drama until they moved and life became harder for them simultaneously.

Bree, was an amazing mother. She already has a toddler, suffered postpartum depression then got pregnant with her second child. It was really difficult for her, caring for two babies and a home. She felt exhausted and tried to work, but it was not successful. I have to say that she tried to engage her husband, but he didn't allow it.

Jake, I didn't like him, but I understood him. He had a shitty, traumatic childhood which still affects his own family life. He also deals with a lot of crazy stuff at work which was not good for his mental health. He was unraveling as the pages flew by. I didn't like the way he didn't confide in Bree or communicate with her. But, it all worked out.

The house they moved into first sounded like perfection, but there were paranormal activities present there. It was kinda scary, and it filled the MC's heads with nightmares and visions. I'm glad that the author included the history of the house, that was very nice.
👨👩👧👦👮🏼♂️
There was also danger considering Jake's job which unfortunately visited them at home. In fact, they had to move because if the suspects Jake was chasing.

This book was very good and different. I liked reading it and I'll definitely recommend it, but you should read the content warning before proceeding. There were some things the characters did that I didn't like (Jake, I'm looking at you), but it is what it is. It added another layer to the book. An amazing read!

Every Fall by Angela Douglas is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the themes of trauma and toxic masculinity. Bree and Jake are trying to build their little family in the crime-filled city of East Bernheim. Jake is a police officer and finds himself at the center of a gang case. When his work follows him home, Jake and Bree know that they need to get out of this crime infested town. They find a safer neighborhood to try to settle their family in but soon the inexplicable starts to happen. Windows being opened when no one opened them. Objects are in different spots than they were placed previously. Being pregnant with a small child at home while Jake works long hours, Bree knows she's stressed out but surely there is something else going on. As Bree's grip on reality starts to slip Jake starts working longer hours and seems to be distancing himself away from Bree. Will this family be able to overcome all that is coming or will this be the end?
This story was intense and fast-paced from the start. The novel dives deep into themes of several mental health problems such as postpartum issues, insomnia, PTSD and depression but also shows us a side of toxic masculinity in the law enforcement field. I was absolutely shocked to learn that this is Douglas's debut novel. The characters are fully developed, storyline was great and I loved the paranormal elements mixed with the psychological thriller. Definitely will look forward to more books by Angela Douglas!
Thank you to NetGalley, Angela Douglas, and Rising Action Co for this ARC. Expected release date is January 28th 2025.

Every Fall
Electrifying intelligent
crime thriller. It follows Jake, a beat cop, his wife Bree & young son Riley as they face psychological trauma, domestic drama , chilling criminal activity and a haunted home. Spine-chilling and suspenseful!

This book was a lot to take in. I read it in under 6 hrs and none of it was what I thought it’d be. As much as I get that the story is trying to make a point that supernatural ghosts are less scary than the physical ghosts that haunt our lives, the husband being a d¡ck really overshadowed that. Everything about him and his toxic masculinity made me so mad and it made most of the story rough to get through. Besides that, the plot itself was good and I enjoyed it to an extent.

This was a quick read. Very predictable but interesting.
Take place in Canada so some slang and words were a bit confusing or different. But a quick google search explained them.
The book kept my attention and I enjoyed it. Would recommend.
The characters were pretty common. They didn’t grab my attention. There were a few things that could have been explained better and a few that could have been left out.
Thank you NetGalley for the copy.

Every Fall by Angela Douglas is a compelling psychological thriller that dives deep into trauma, toxic masculinity, and the horrors that can lurk both within a home and the mind. Bree and Jake are a young couple trying to build a family in the crime-ridden city of East Bernheim. When the threat of crime follows them home, Jake decides to move the family to a safer, suburban neighborhood—but things only seem to worsen.
As Bree’s pregnancy progresses, she begins to hear voices and have strange dreams, setting the stage for a slow descent into terror. And when tragedy strikes Jake, the already fragile balance between the couple fractures, turning their home into a place of fear, guilt, and confusion.
Douglas masterfully weaves a story that’s as much about the psychological unraveling of a family as it is about the supernatural forces at play. The tension between Bree’s fight for her family and Jake’s deteriorating state is palpable. While the pacing could have been tighter in spots, the themes of trauma and toxic masculinity in police culture provide a powerful backdrop to the chilling events. Every Fall is a twisty, unsettling ride that will keep you hooked until the very end.

'Every Fall' was a really easy read with both mystery and paranormal elements. Highly recommend if you want something quick!

This one highlights throughout the book a very colorful representation of bad neighborhoods in their small province.
Throughout the book, i really came to dislike the man Jake continues to become. Bree tries so hard just to be a good wife and mom she doesn't worry enough about herself and get out... but i understand it's hard, especially when you have nothing.
Jake, Bree, Amber, Tammy, the lady in the white dress, the women's shelter next door. Let me tell you, this story did not go how I thought it would when I started reading this. But come to the last quarter, and I'm eyes so wide and almost gnawing off my cuticles, waiting to see what happens next.
This is a long, slow burn with a great ending.
Please know there are some trigger warnings ⚠️ and very complex situations.

The story started off strong, but then it took so many directions that it was hard to keep up with. Are we dealing with ex-cons or ghosts or both?!

This was such a haunting, chilling and pulse-pounding thriller! There were some very graphic and disturbing scenes and it addressed the darkest aspects of mental health, but really was a great read. I really appreciated the author’s note and her personal connection to these issues.

This book was very different than I expected it! This spooky thriller has depth! This book covers multiple mental health topics including postpartum disorders, PTSD, insomnia, and depression just to name a few. It also looks into toxic masculinity and the darker side of police work from the officer and family perspective. Many thrillers don’t cover these issues in the way this one does and the author did it very well.
This book has multiple points of view throughout the story (which I love) and is pretty fast paced. There were a lot of unknowns throughout the book as to what was happening until the end where it is wrapped up nicely. It has some paranormal elements that were a little spooky for me. I could not read this book at night once I got so far in because I was getting creeped out! I had to pull up a romance so I could sleep 🤣.
I was also shocked to learned this is her debut novel, it was well done! I look forward to more books from her in the future! Thank you to @angeladouglasbooks and @risingactionpublishingco for allowing me early access to this one!

This is an incredible debut by an amazing new author, Angela Douglas! Bree is a fascinating character I felt drawn to. I enjoyed the intensity as events played out at a rapid pace. I can say it’s already going to be a favorite thriller of 2025. I’m thrilled for everyone to read this debut when it releases later this month & I can’t wait to see what Douglas delivers next!

Thank you @risingsctionpublishingco & @netgalley for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Bree and her police officer husband, Jake, live in the crime-ridden city of East Bernheim. When a particular crime hits too close to home, they make the decision to move to a larger old home in a safer neighborhood. Initially, their situation seems to improve, but Bree's pregnancy brings about troubling changes, including disturbing dreams. Bree notices strange happenings in her house, but she brushes them off as her imagination. A neighbor tells Bree that strange things seem to happen in that house every fall.
When tragedy strikes Jake at work, he becomes consumed by guilt and grief, which begins to affect his mental stability. Bree finds herself having to protect their children from Jake, who is increasingly unrecognizable. Both Bree and Jake are haunted by external threats and internal turmoil, leaving their family in a precarious and frightening situation.
MY THOUGHTS: The eerie house, with its frigid rooms and unsettling occurrences, captivated me and kept me eagerly turning the pages of this atmospheric thriller. The drama between Bree and Jake is intense, with their mounting frustrations culminating in an unexpected climax. The narrative unfolds at a steady pace, interspersed with enough action to maintain intrigue throughout. The conclusion presents a chilling reminder that sometimes the greatest threats come not from the outside world but from within our own homes.
Readers who enjoy psychological suspense and domestic drama will enjoy this story which comes highly recommended by my friends @thrillerbookloversthepulse.

I enjoyed reading this twisty thriller that included dark themes of police culture and the effects it can have on family. Throw in some ghosts, and it becomes even more interesting! Once I really got into this book, I couldn’t put it down. It does touch on multiple subjects that may be difficult for some readers. Check the trigger warnings before you proceed if reading about certain types of trauma affects you. If you like traumatic thrillers, I recommend checking this one out. Thank you NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing Co for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a non stop read for me. I looked forward to reading it each day. A couple lives in a bad part of town because the husband is a police officer and must live close to his precinct. When one of his cases gets personal it causes a lot of stress on the family and their marriage. This book has everything from ghosts to chilling criminals to characters you can’t trust. A thrilling book with non stop action!
