Bree, a new mother, and her husband an officer with the RCMP live in the "un"safest town in Jake's jurisdiction. Jake must live there to keep his job and isn't eligible for a transfer out of the city. Then a man Jake arrests, starts to make threats again his family, Jake and Bree take their chances and move an hour away. They find their dream home for a really good price, but strange things start to happen in the house.

I really didn't like Jake. I tried so hard, here were times, I thought, "Ok, he isn't that bad", but then he would just make me very mad again. I actually got so upset reading that I put my book down and didn't touch it for an entire day. Even though infidelity was a content warning, and I have read many books with infidelity as a subject, it really just got to me on this one.

That being said, I like this story. I felt really bad for Bree. She was stranded in this house, with a young son, no family, no friends and Jake didn't give her the time of day. or show her any support. In fact, he tried to blame whatever she was feeling on postpartum depression.

I would recommend this book.

Jake and Bree, a young married couple with a little boy and another baby on the way, live in crime-ridden East Bernheim where Jake is a police officer. After Jake’s job follows him home and puts his family in danger, they move an hour away, hoping for a safer life. The neighborhood is somewhat better but the house is spooky. There’s one room that’s always freezing cold, and Bree is seeing and hearing things and having strange dreams. She’s not sure if her sleep-deprived new mom brain is playing tricks on her or if her new home is haunted. Meanwhile, Jake is spiraling out of control after a tragedy on the job, and Bree doesn’t know if she can trust the one man who should be protecting her.

This book sank its hooks into me from the first chapter and held on tight. It’s a perfect blend of thriller and police procedural with a touch of paranormal, with a multilayered plot that explores post-partum depression, PTSD, trauma responses, and toxic masculinity, adding a compelling depth of emotion. The characters are so skillfully drawn and developed, and the dual POV lets the reader get into both Bree’s and Jake’s thoughts. My friends at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse have been buzzing about this debut thriller, and I already can’t wait to read more from Angela Douglas in the future!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing for providing me an advance copy of this book.

When Jake's young family finds themself in danger related to his job as a policeman, he moves them further away in order to keep them safe. But sometimes what you think is for the best, doesn't always work out that way.

I could not put this book down. It was so entertaining with realistic portrayals of the characters. I had no idea which way the story was going to go and I always love it when a book keeps me guessing. Angela Douglas has smashed it with this debut and I am so excited to see what she writes next.

Get ready for some goosebumps and heart-pounding moments!

This is the author's debut, and it's a doozy! I didn't want to put it down, and I'm excited to read her upcoming work. Jake and Bree's marriage is hanging by a thread, pushed to the brink by the pressures of Jake's job. The move intended to improve their lives has only increased their troubles. The house they once loved now seems to hide something dark. Bree is hearing and seeing things, and strange events are occurring.

Jake is grappling with the weight of his job, while Bree is struggling with the demands of motherhood and the toxicity of her relationship. The story delves into their emotional turmoil, making it a compelling read. It's as if an unseen menace is slowly draining the life from them.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse for providing this ARC via NG.

This was a great book! I couldn't put it down! I just had to know what happened! I loved The crime procedure elements and the little bit of spooky/horror with the ghost. A great read!

Jake is a police officer working and living in a dangerous area. It's not ideal anymore to live there when their apartment is exposed to one of the criminals, the Scaggs, local drug dealers. It really starts endangered the safety of his family, Bree - his wife, a toddler, and another baby on the way.
Jake is under a lot of pressure to relocate his family and when they manage to move to a new house, they still have a lot of grief caused by Jake's work and the new house itself, and unfortunately it put their marriage in a friction.

I'm not sure what to say about the genre of this book, as there's a thriller ambience, police procedural theme, family drama thing, and a splash of paranormal thing within the story. It's an amazing, unputdownable book. The plot and the characters are so believable. There's so much happening in this book, but the author amazingly gave a tidy unexpected ending. This is a 5 stars read for me !!

My friends @thrillerbookloversthepulse #thepulse #pulsepoint are diving into this one and loving the drama this one has!

In this one we meet Bree and Jake, a young couple who has a young child and is living in a town that didn’t feel safe. Jake is a police officer and cannot seem to escape crime and bad guys. After a close call, they decide to move to a safer neighborhood away from the riff raff. After the move, things should have gotten better but instead it’s the opposite. Bree and Jake seem to be growing further apart and there is more strain on their marriage. Bree is expecting her next child and with the distancing of Jake she starts to question who the random cars are outside their house, why he is so secretive at times and why is she having nightmares all of a sudden? Tension rises and in the end they must fight for their safety and their family.

Love getting the chance to read new authors and this one is no different! This was a good mix of family drama, horror, thriller and a wee bit of paranormal elements! I immediately was sucked into this one and had some pretty strong feelings for some of these characters. 👀 I didn’t like them all but that’s what made this book fun! I was completely invested in Bree’s character and although sometimes I wanted her to get a backbone I felt bad at her for the situation she was in! I love when authors blur the line of questioning the characters sanity a bit and this book did it well. I enjoyed this one for sure and can’t wait to see what Angela comes up with next!

Every Fall

Every Fall is a fast-paced domestic thriller that explores a toxic police and criminal culture, extra marital affairs and a little supernatural haunting that fits in perfectly with the season. Alternating POV’s gives way to a bingeable read. There is a lot going on in this book. Stick with it though. Things will come together at the end. As I was reading, I didn’t know if any character was reliable. They all seemed unhinged and hiding so many things. The tension between the characters increases as the pages turn leaving the reader breathless. Read all the way through the end to the acknowledgements and that will help you to understand the author’s thought process and the characters in the book.

Great thriller with some creepy moments. This is a domestic thriller about a young couple who move into a house, and strange things start happening. Is it something easily explained or something sinister lurking in the shadows?

The unveiling was fun to follow, and I enjoyed the different POVs giving the reader a deeper understanding of what was happening.

📚 PRE-PUBLICATION BOOK TOUR BOOK REVIEW 📚

Every Fall By Angela Douglas
Publication Date: January 28, 2025
Publisher: Rising Action Publishing Co

📚MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

👻MY SCARE RATING: 😳😳

📚MY REVIEW:

Every Fall is an action-filled domestic thriller with creepy paranormal vibes, and its story focuses on the dark side of police service and trauma. There were aspects of the book that felt, at times, like a mix of police procedural and crime fiction, too. There was A LOT going on in this book and it came at me FAST, often making my head spin. However, it was highly successful in keeping me on my toes and absolutely uncertain of which way this fun thriller was going to ultimately go!

I am always sharing spoiler-free reviews, but I think it is SO IMPORTANT to note that the trigger warnings in this book are not just blips in the storyline - they pretty much ARE the storyline. Domestic violence, police trauma, postpartum depression, and alcohol abuse are featured prominently throughout this read. If any of these topics are difficult for you, this may not be the best read for you.

With that being said, I really enjoyed everything going on in this book - and there really was a bit of everything going on. I loved the multiple points of view and how well the writing made every character feel unreliable and unhinged for much of the book. The story has plenty of red herrings that will leave you thinking you know what might be going on - but you won't. There were some unexpected twists in this one that forced me to suspend my disbelief, but it was well-written and I was here for it. Anytime there's paranormal aspects in a book, my scare ratings go up. Some of the stuff in this book was downright spine-tingling and spooky.

This was a book that I highly encourage you to read the author's acknowledgements at the end of the book, because they actually made me feel like I gained a deeper understanding of the background of the story. And that made me enjoy the story even more than I already did!

If you love thrillers with unhinged characters, police storylines, and paranormal elements, you're going to love this one! My friends at Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse have been talking a lot about this book -- and after reading it, you will too! A big thank you to Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse, NetGalley, Rising Action Publishing Co and the author herself for this advanced e-copy and invitation to be a part of this book tour!

Summary: Bree and her police officer husband Jake are married and living in "the Burner" or East Bernheim. Every big city that has an area of town that people tend to avoid because it is rife with criminal activity - that describes the Burner. For Jake and Bree this matters more than ever because they now have a young son and fear for his safety, especially when Jake makes enemies of some local gang members that make it clear that his family is at risk. They find an older home to rent in an area that they feel is safer...until strange things begin to happen in the house. Doors are left open, lights are on, and screams can be heard when no one is there. Are they in danger in this house or are they losing their grip on reality?

Thoughts: Every Fall is an unusual book. Is it a ghost story or a novel about mental illness and domestic violence? You might find yourself still trying to figure that out at the conclusion. This was a quick read for me - tense with a supernatural element. It was interesting but uncomfortable to observe the way Jake's aggression increased while Bree retreated into a shell. I felt it was a realistic depiction even though it was unsettling to read. I appreciated the camaraderie and support of the women and the friendship they offered Bree in her time of need.

After the rollercoaster of anxiety and dread, the ending felt too easy. The topics raised in this novel were intense and messy; and they deserved a similarly complex and untidy ending.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this ARC! A mix of thriller and paranormal - i was unable to put it down!

This one has a LOT packed into a single book and I'm so glad I had to opportunity to pick it up! As a new mom myself, I felt immediately connected to Bree and couldn't even imagine balancing that with the stress of having a husband with a dangerous job! A lot of the crime/stalking aspects made this a quick and easy page-turner, but some of the paranormal aspects were a little unexpected and not exactly for me. Overall, I really enjoyed this and would recommend to any thriller lover. Thanks so much for the ARC!

Oh my gosh. This was an insane read. It's got me in, aww. First off, the real issues with PPD, PTSD and what they both come with and how they can be. Not only that, the relationship, the stalking, the psychopaths coworker/love interest. There is just so much in this book, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time you're reading it. This is such a great physiological thriller, and if you enjoy everything mentioned, you need to read this book ASAP.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing Co. for the arc in exchange for an honest review. This book was unputdownable from start to finish, the mix of thriller, paranormal, police procedural all of it was so good. I will say at some parts it felt a bit repetitive but overall very good!

Wow is all I can say! When I read this, I devoured it in TWO DAYS!!! This thing was so incredibly hard to put down! Everyone at @thrillerbookloversthepulse is going mad over this one!!

Bree and Jake are married couple living the life with a toddler. However, life begins to become a struggle with Jake as a police officer in a rough city.

One day his job follows him home and their lives are now in danger. They then find an opportunity in a better home away from the city. Will the move be just what they needed? Or is something more sinister about to take over?

This story was a thriller with some horror elements sprinkled in. The new house had creepy scenes that kept me on the edge. I absolutely loved it! Highly recommend!

Thank you so much Angela Douglas and Rising Action Publishing for my gifted copy! Can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
