This is an enjoyable memoir from Abigail H. from the Bachelor Franchise with fun insights of what it is like to be on the Bachelor with hearing loss.
Thank you Net Galley for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it. Thank you for this advance reading copy!

I really enjoyed getting to hear Abigail’s story in her own words (and her own voice because she narrated the audiobook!). It starts before her birth with her sister’s diagnosis and details Abigail’s childhood and teenage years, and takes you all the way up to her time dating Noah after The Bachelor. It was a fascinating and poignant read, and I definitely recommend the audiobook!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read this book! ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

As a Teacher of the Deaf at a Deaf school I have first hand experience of many of the issues Abigail expressed in her book. Being stuck between the hearing and Deaf work not fully fitting into either is common for many of the students I teach. She was
Able to overcome many of the obstacles put in front of her even when in the public eye of The Bachelor series. The audiobook was even better as she read it herself and you could hear the emotion in her voice.

This was beautifully told. I loved Abigail on The Bachelor and found her memoir to be insightful and touching. I look forward to more from her in the future.

The Deaf Girl by Abigail Heringer is a fantastic listen, giving insight into the life of a deaf person who landed on reality TV twice! I really enjoyed the book and recommend it.

*The Deaf Girl* offers a powerful look into overcoming obstacles, providing readers with valuable insights into the experiences of those navigating life with hearing loss. Abigail’s candid story is both empowering and inspiring, offering hope and confidence for anyone facing similar struggles, while also educating others on how to better understand and interact with the deaf community. Highly highly recommend!

Abigail had been one of my favorite Bachelor contestants of all time, but this solidified her as my favorite. Her life story and ambitions are something to be cherished and I am so glad I got to understand her at a deeper level from this audiobook.
I love that she narrated the audiobook because, it felt like she was really telling me her life story.

I love a book with deaf representation! I have been a fan of Abigail since her Bachelor days, and loved hearing more about her background and growing up with hearing loss. Abigail’s personality shines with her kindness and was a really informative and touching memoir.

I listened to this in one day - it was a fun, informative read. Perfect for any member of Bachelor Nation!

my first audiobook!! i loved abigail in matt’s season, and it was cool to hear about her journey. this was a beautiful story and honestly made me tear up multiple times. i took ASL in high school, and this book offered such a unique perspective on the big D and little d deaf community. thank you to the author and netgalley for this ARC!

This is a fascinating memoir that details Abigail’s experience as both a woman of the deaf community and a bachelor contestant. There were some areas where I felt information was repeated more than necessary, but overall I’m very happy to have read this and feel more educated.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book. As an able bodied person, I am always interested in learning about how others live. How they get through life without the same senses I have. This memoir was such a great look into how Abigail Heringer navigated growing up and then also being on The Bachelor. I am not a watcher of the show, but was a really fun look at the behind the scenes.

Obviously I; like many other people fell in love with Abigail during her bachelor nation journey and I was so excited to get to know her and her story on a deeper level.
The Deaf Girl is a well told memoir that is easy to follow and enjoyable to listen to however; at times it came off as more factual than emotional.

This was a great listen. While the first part was a little mundane - probably due to Abigail recounting her mom’s experience of raising two girls with cochlear implants, when we move into Abigail’s high school years and beyond, I really felt like u got to know her, her struggles, her emotions, her genuine personality. I don’t watch bachelor but have in the past and am familiar with it so hearing about that venture was also fun. I’m happy she seems to have found her place and happiness. I would recommend that as a quick nonfiction audio listen! Thank you for the arc!

🌼Title: The Deaf Girl: A Memoir of Hearing Loss, Hope, and Fighting Against the Odds
🌼Author: Abigail Heringer
🌼Genre: Memoir
I truly enjoyed this memoir. I listened to the audiobook and was so happy to have it read by the author herself. I enjoyed watching Abigail Heringer on the Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise. This is such a special story and I can’t express how much I learned from it. So many people like myself lack awareness of what life is like for the hard of hearing and deaf. Heringer is a trailblazer and I can see how many people she will help and educate. I am even more in awe of her journey, especially now knowing more of what it was like for her to go on national television. She is a strong and empowering individual.
I enjoyed seeing Heringer’s journey on the pages and how she learns self acceptance and self advocacy. I absolutely recommend this book.

The most honest and detailed testimony of hearing loss I have ever read. Thank you, Abigail, for sharing your story! I have known who Abigail was since she was on Matt’s season of The Bachelor (the first deaf contestant on the show). It is important to distinguish that this book is so much more than a story about a reality show contestant and you do not need to be familiar with The Bachelor at all in order to read it. Abigail does an excellent job explaining her childhood and navigating life up into adulthood as “the deaf girl”. The book is very educational, providing information on the deaf (and the capital “D” Deaf) community, cochlear implants, schooling, and more. Abigail was incredibly open and vulnerable with her life experiences and the resulting emotions she felt in different phases of life. I was particularly struck by her feelings of isolation as a cochlear implant user caught between the hearing community and the Deaf community, her difficulty with relationships/dating, and her difficulty hearing others in social situations or on The Bachelor. I had no concept of how truly difficult it is navigating life with a hearing loss disability and how many challenges she has overcome to get where she is today. I also really enjoyed listening to Abigail read the audiobook. Her emotion and passion are evident throughout. I highly recommend this memoir - Abigail is an inspiration! Thank you to NetGalley, Abigail Heringer, and Sourcebooks for the gifted ARC audiobook recording in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC audiobook of The Deaf Girl: A Memoir of Hearing Loss, Hope, and Fighting Against the Odds by Abigail Heringer.
I find learning about the Deaf community fascinating. Like Abigail says not all disabilities are One Size Fits All. The discrimination that deaf people have against each other blows me away. I can't imagine going to an ASL class and having the deaf teacher bad mouthing people with cochlear implants.
Abigail was born deaf, and her mother consented to her daughter getting a cochlear implant at age two. Her older sister was also born deaf and has a cochlear implant. Unlike her sister Abigail was introverted and did not like to draw attention to her deafness. She wanted to blend in and not have to ask for special accommodations.
It was interesting to read about her struggles and accomplishments. Her mistakes and her victories. Striving to find that one person who would advocate for you and love you for who you are.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is around deaf or hard of hearing people. I totally related to her having issues hearing when in big groups, missing what people are saying and not wanting to draw attention to yourself. I had sudden hearing loss two years ago in my left ear. So many people do not understand what it is like to not know where a sound comes from, how hard it is to hear someone talk, how embarrassing it is to ask someone to repeat themselves several times, to hear people tell you never mind because they don't want to repeat themselves. It is so frustrating. Thank you, Abigail for bringing light to this subject.
It was also fun to get a behind the scene look at the Bachelor.

Thank you RB Media, NetGalley and Abigail Herringer for providing me with a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I was really excited to listen to this book because I love Abigail Herringer, I found her so endearing and lovely on the bachelor franchise. While some of the writing was slightly juvenile, I loved how she was educating us on her life starting at a young age. It really showed us life with a disability and it showed the different perspectives from the deaf community.
I think honestly everyone should read this, it's a quick educational read and I think everyone will enjoy this.
