Big thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to review this book pre-release. All the Hidden Monsters was a great read full of monsters, romance, so much more. I really enjoyed the premise as well as the execution, but actually would have loved to have seen this in a more adult setting so it would have been more deeply explored! A more formal review will be available on my IG/TikTok and Goodreads for release.

A unique mixture of grumpy sunshine enemies to lovers romance, murder mystery and adventure. The pacing is perfect and the book gets better as it progresses. I adored the mixture of the ever watchful mother-hen figure P, the unafraid to go after her dreams Sage, and the grumpy Oren. Together, with other characters, they form a wonderful found family. This was a concise and engaging story. I’ll be picking up the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Scholastic, and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scholastic/Chicken House for providing me with an ARC!

I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I haven’t read a paranormal book in YEARS because I generally don’t like them, but this one sounded so good. The paranormal part of it was good, but I unexpectedly didn’t like the mystery. I STRUGGLED to finish this book, it took me way longer than I anticipated and I basically forced myself to read 150 pages in one day just so I could be done with it. It wasn’t bad enough to DNF, but I also did not want to keep reading.

Things I liked:
1. The characters’ backstories. I think that Sage and P’s paranormal origin stories were interesting and provided necessary characterization to them. I never expected [spoiler] to be the cause of P turning into a poltergeist, and finding that out was one of the best scenes in the book.
2. Oren’s character development. This was a classic grumpy/sunshine trope, with the MMC slowly becoming more open to working with others and having friends.

Things I didn’t like (as much):
1. I was confused the entire time. I had a hard time remembering the mystery plot of the werewolf murders, and each time a new connection was found, I couldn’t remember who they were. When the MacAllister (I think that’s his name) part happened, I literally didn’t even know why he mattered or why they thought he would be the next target. I was clueless while reading and that’s a horrible feeling to have in a book.
2. I didn’t care about the characters. The only one I really liked was P, the others just didn’t capture my attention at all.
3. There was a giant info dump done by the antagonist that lasted probably 10-20 pages (I read digitally and didn’t have page numbers). He answered EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that the protagonists asked truthfully and gave the exact reasons for everything?? That’s so unrealistic and I wish it could’ve been shown to us instead of just told. This was probably the scene that made it move down from a 3 to a 2 for me, I really don’t like villain confession scenes.

Very interesting mashup of detective/mystery with monsters. Not sure it totally succeeds as a YA, I think I would have enjoyed it more as an adult novel.

Genre: YA Paranormal, Murder Mystery
POV: 3rd person
Series: Trilogy, Book 1
Relationship: M/F

Darkness Rating: 2/5 🖤
This is a murder mystery so expect triggering scenes.

Spice Rating: 0/5 🫑
Nada. Zero. None. Romance is a subplot.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 ✨ rounded to 4.
I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel. The story was engaging and captivating, drawing me in from the very beginning. However, the significant age gap between the main characters did initially throw me off. However, I found the relationship between the main character heartwarming and not forced. BUT! I felt that Oren had a stronger connection with a certain side character…... The twist was pleasant surprise. Overall, I would recommend this novel and will eagerly read the sequel.

Well, this book was not what I was expecting, but in a very good way. I was a little reluctant to start this because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it because the FMC was young. However, she may be young in years, but she’s miles ahead in maturity. I do want to say it took a little bit to get into the story because I was afraid I wasn’t going to like Oren. However, I stuck with it, and I just loved the way this all turned out. Not only is there a compelling mystery, but there is lovely character growth with just about all the characters. I really can’t say too much, but I was shocked with the ending, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So much so, I can’t wait for the next in the series! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Paranormal enforcers, of course they are! Wizards, shifters, and a poltergeist tackle a series of murders, while navigating biases and emotions and creating their own pack. Great fun, original and entertaining all the way. Hope to see more!

"All the Hidden Monsters" is a YA mystery written by Amie Jordan. Sage is a werewolf who lives with P, a poltergeist. When Sage finds one of her werewolf friends murdered, she brings valuable evidence to the Arcanum (the supernatural police force, run mostly by warlocks). She wants to work for the Arcanum, but has been turned down in the past for being a werewolf. The force's director assigns her as a temporary partner to one of their most successful/troublesome warlocks: Oren Rinallis. Will they be able to work together to catch what seems to be a werewolf serial killer? Will Sage make it out alive? Great worldbuilding helps engross readers. A recommended purchase for YA collections where supernatural mysteries are popular.

Thank you Netgalley and Scholastic for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

“All the Hidden Monsters” by Amie Jordan is an engaging debut novel that blends urban fantasy with a murder mystery, creating a unique and compelling read. The book even starts like a TV crime show with a dead body and an investigation, plunging you right into the plot. Set in Manchester, the book introduces a world teeming with supernatural beings living secretly beneath the human world. Werewolves, witches, and warlocks (surprisingly no vampires) coexist with humans while navigating their own “downside” world, a vibrant underground filled with a variety of supernatural creatures.

The story centers on Sage, a werewolf aspiring to be a detective, and Oren, a grumpy and seasoned warlock detective who prefers to work alone. Their unlikely partnership is forced into action when Sage’s friend is murdered, and they must join forces to track down a serial killer who’s hunting werewolves in the human world.

Jordan does an excellent job of crafting a fast-paced and immersive plot. The writing flows smoothly, and the characters are well-developed and full of life, especially the secondary characters. Sage’s determination and Oren’s brooding nature provide an interesting dynamic, and their banter adds warmth to the story. While there were hints of a potential romance between the two leads, it remains subtle and undeveloped, which helps keep the focus on the mystery at hand. This is definitely not a romance book, which I appreciated given the age gap between the main characters (Oren is around 150 years old while Sage is 18). I would have preferred if Oren had been more of a big brother figure rather than a potential love interest as the age gap made me uncomfortable, so I’m glad the romance did not develop at all. The focus is more on their growing friendship and partnership. Due to the ages of the characters, I would consider this book to be more of a NA book than a YA.

The world-building in “All the Hidden Monsters” is impressive without being overwhelming. Jordan introduces her supernatural setting in a way that feels natural and accessible, allowing you to dive into the story without being bogged down by complex lore. I also appreciated the combination of mystery and fantasy as the mystery aspect was well-developed, and I was continuously guessing throughout the book. The plot is fast paced, and I did not expect the big plot twist at the end whatsoever, which is a sign of a really good mystery. The cast of secondary characters also shines, with standouts like P and Berion adding depth and humor to the story. The found-family trope is handled beautifully, and I finished the book hoping for more stories set in this world, especially with a focus on P. She really made the book for me (as well as Berion’s fashion choices).

Overall, “All the Hidden Monsters” is a refreshing and original take on the urban fantasy genre, filled with rich characters, a well-constructed mystery, and an intriguing supernatural world. It’s a fantastic start for Amie Jordan, and I can’t wait to read more from Jordan.
