good mystery about a couple and staying in a house and the other couple there. kept me on my toes . good mystery and figuring stuff out.
Not for me. I thought this would be more of a domestic thriller, but it was more like a Black Mirror episode. The concept was original and somewhat intriguing, but I didn't care for the execution, and I was not interested enough in the main character enough to care what happened to her. Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the e-ARC
Gaslighting on another level! Interesting premise. Well weitten. Good characters. I enjoyed it. Poor Kate, I was rooting for her from.the start and wanted to throttle her useless boyfriend!
When I read the description for this book, it wasn’t at all what I expected. The story was based around an influencer who gets a taste of her own medicine after pranking people which is what she does on her YouTube channel. I expected the story to go in a different direction but I just wasn’t invested in the influencer content. It’s just not my thing but the ending was interesting. I feel this book is more for young adults that engage in constantly posting videos and try to make a living doing it.
Really good book!! Really fast read! Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review!!
If you like psychological thrillers this book will have you on your toes. So many twist and turns you can not predict what happens next. Is Kate imagining things, did she get to drunk? Fool Me Once is a suspenseful story that won’t let you put the book down.
This was an interesting read that took you on one crazy journey. We get to see different perspectives for how the senerio plays out. There is some past to present flashbacks depending on who is currently telling their side of the story. This also gives you something to think about with how much influence people have over others on social media.
Okaaaaay, whilst I have no idea WTAF I've just read, in which direction it was going to take me and what the outcome would be, I do know is that the book was a fantastic intro to Gillespie's writing for me and has 100% piqued my interest into reading more from him.
It's a fast paced thriller that will have you questioning your perceptions of reality alongside Kate. Twisty beyond belief, Gillespie has created a compelling and addictive read in Fool Me Once...it certainly had me!
The characters are fantastic, the plot insane and you won't want to stop until you've devoured every last word.
I enjoyed this one so much. It kept me guessing throughout, and I didn’t see a single plot twist coming. Our characters were complicated, flawed and messy. The conclusion was satisfying, whilst still keeping some mystery. This was exactly what I needed from a psych thriller
4.5*
This was a good read. I think I read it in less than a day and was enjoying it from the beginning of the book to the end. Nothing stands out that blew me away tho. Just average to be honest
Fast paced psychological thriller. Kate wakes up after an evening of drinking to a car crashing into her neighbors fence… the next day, the fence is fixed and the neighbor tells her it didn’t happen. Is she losing her mind, or is something sinister at play? I was genuinely confused until I got the second part. The ending was perfect.
I literally flew through this book. It was super fast-paced and unputdownable. I picked it up without any expectations, but it entertained me more than I expected. And finished it in one day!
The book needs some suspension of disbelief (okay, quite a lot of suspension), but it manages to deliver. Best for lovers of Freida McFadden and the dystopian books of John Marrs.
3.5 stars.

This story demands your full attention when reading. It evokes the same vibes as Hello, Darling or The Truman Show, while also being a bit dark and highly twisted.
Hayley wants to be YouTube influencer. That’s hard when she has exactly zero followers. Then she starts to push the boundaries to get views- breaking into homes, pulling very questionable pranks.
Spoiler warning-
Hayley is going to be punished for something in a very Truman Show like way…and she has no idea it’s even happening. Protesters don’t like it and want it all to end. The question is…should influencers be responsible if bad things happen to people that follow what the influencers put out for public consumption?
I’m undecided about how I feel about this book. It took me awhile to get into it, but the story truly ended up being a modern day take on The Truman Show with a punishment aspect to it. It was an interesting concept.
I loved the crazy ride this book takes you on! I was a little confused at first but kept reading and the rest of the book for sure keeps you on your toes! Looking forward to reading more thriller books from this author.
This book was SO good! I was genuinely confused until I got the second part. The ending was perfect.
My Goodreads review:
Now this is a thriller! After getting through the first part, I flew through the end.
Kate wakes up after an evening of drinking to a car crashing into her neighbors fence… the next day, the fence is fixed and the neighbor tells her it didn’t happen.
A VERY wild ride!
Kate witnesses a car crash outside her home, alongside her neighbors. Soon after, it becomes apparent that someone is trying to cover up the accident and erase it from memory. As Kate's life takes a dramatic turn, strange events begin to unfold: someone breaks into her and her fiancé's home, and a man follows her home from work.
Fool Me Once opens with the car crash and maintains a fast pace, hardly letting up until its thrilling conclusion. The tension keeps you on your toes, leaving you fearful for Kate’s safety as you unravel the mystery behind the attempts to silence her.
However, I found the dialogue challenging at times since it lacks quotation marks, which made it harder to follow. Additionally, the characters didn't stand out as particularly extraordinary. Nonetheless, it’s an engaging, quick read with an interesting premise.
Overall, Fool Me once was a quick, psychological thriller that keeps you on your toes up until the very end. Fans of thrillers will highly enjoy this read.
This mystery comes with a very original story line. Kate is horrified when she, her partner and her neighbours witness an automobile accident, where fortunately nobody appears to have been killed.
Rather less fortunately, Kate begins to believe that she is either being gaslighted or is losing her mind, because the next day nobody has any recollection of the accident. Or so they claim.
But why would they all lie? Or is it Kate's own problems with alcohol that are at the root of what she is experiencing?
The answers to these questions lie in a truly astounding explanation, and this thriller definitely delivers something unexpected to its readers. Worth checking out, it gets 3.5 stars.
Great thriller that hooks you early. I’m so glad I had a long flight and was able to read this all at once. It would have been hard to put down!
Thank you Inkubator Books for providing me an ARC!
This neighbourhood definitely had me feeling wary, the danger rose as the secrets and lies came out, very suspensful and twisty overall.
