I read this book and neglected to leave the review. I am rereading it now, this time to my students. So far they really like the twists and turns, poor Clay gets sent to a camp on an island for something he did at school. He soon learns the island holds secrets and sets to solve the mysteries.
** I will return and add more to the review when I finish reading with my students and include their comments.
I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have a confession to make. I never read this book, but my elementary-age son did, and he loved it! He had read the first couple books in the Secret series and enjoyed them, so when he saw this on my Kindle, he took the plunge. The main character in Bad Magic is the younger brother of one of the characters in the Secret series, but he didn't think you had to have read the other books to understand it. He said it was funny and fun.
While this book is a great start to the series, I think I actually preferred Bosch's "Secret" series more. But this follows along the same fun thought process, and most fans of Bosch's work will probably like this book.
My son and my students (4-6th grade) love this series. I did not personally read it, but the students enjoyed it!
All the silliness and snark of the Secret Series is back. The plot can be a bit confusing at time, but the mysteries and puzzles are great. It reminds me of a cross between A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Mysterious Benedict Society. The characters were a bit less interesting than those of the Secret Series, but since this is the first book I am hoping they will be developed more.
Since Bad Magic was a download only and I didn't get it read it expired so I know it's not on my kindle. Sorry I didn't get to this one.
