This book is the epitome of don’t take yourself seriously and just have fun!
I truly loved the spicy and tension filled banter, all the innuendo, and awkward relationship of ‘what is going on’ mixed with ‘I guess I’ll help you out’ and everything that comes out of this combo bringing former besties turned high school enemies back together when our FMC returns to her hometown after her grandmother passes away and leaves her home to her, and then catching her ex bff trying to break into said house looking for her grandma.
Then comes all the tension, one liners, awkward banter, sexual comments mixed with the supernatural aspects of what happens when you bring together a witch and a werewolf…
Thanks so much to the Macmillan publishers for my ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest review!
I’m not going to say anything negative about this book or author.
Sometimes readers don’t connect with an author. Maybe it’s the writing style, or tone, or characters, or storytelling. Whatever it is, sometimes readers and authors don’t connect and THAT IS OKAY.
This is my second book by this author and I have solidified she’s just not for me. Thanks for the arc though!
The narrator was the best part of this whole experience and the audio was superb! Love the audio publisher!
I've been a huge fan of Charlotte Stein's since reading When Grumpy Met Sunshine at the beginning of this year, so I was beyond excited to see what she could do with her latest, a paranormal rom-com, How To Help A Hungry Werewolf!
So, what happens when a werewolf and a witch re-connect in Hollow Brook after sharing a mortifying high-school experience? How about being forced together by a do-or-die mating bond, which results in some steamy scenes that had me longing for more dirty talk between Cassie and Seth! It was extremely refreshing that neither character harbored some huge resentment towards the other for that high-school drama, yet their feelings didn’t just get swept under the rug either; it was exactly the right amount of bitterness to create the perfect enemies to lovers’ recipe!
I didn't know I needed to read a book about werewolf mental health until this book came along! OMG what amazing rep for those werewolves among us, plus an everyday bonus for those of us that fall into that mere mortal category!
This book was a fabulous mash up, two-creature-for-the-price-of-one-admission book that had me eating out of one hairy palm while simultaneously desperate to figure out how to get the spell book that the other hand held (because, yes, of course I'd want to be part of a mating bond with Seth)!!!
Bonus? This title seriously has me lusting after it! The use of the word “hungry” has me obsessed!
OMG Yael Rizowy did a great job with this audiobook narration! Between Seth's breathy, bulky, angry voice and the cute, cuddly, Oompa-Loompa voice used for the raccoon familiar... it was just so perfectly fitting to mirror the fun plot!
This is the first book in Stein's new series, The Sanctuary for Supernatural Creatures, and I will be howling at the moon until the next book comes along!
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin and Macmillan Audio for the complimentary copies to read and review.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book early I thought that it was the adorable cover and who doesn’t love werewolves?
I am excited to see what the author continues to do with the series, if book two will continue to follow the same MCs or have new ones in the same town as the town is full of creatures of all kinds.
This was a fun and easy listen; I got through it in less than 24 Hours. I think that the the only issue I had toward the end was the major smut scenes and that was just due to some of the choice words that were used; other than that I didn't mind the smut scenes and I had a blast reading this story.
This book has:
🌑 Witches
🌑 Werewolves
🌑 Talking raccoon familiar
🌑 Deals with body issues

This book shouldn't have worked for me. Honestly, I was wondering what I'd gotten myself into for the first little bit. But I'm glad I gave it a chance.
After the death of her grandmother, Cassie moves back to her hometown to set affairs in order. Very quickly, her ex-best friend appears ... and then just keeps showing up. She wants nothing to do with him: The last time they saw each other, he called her a fat-ass and helped a team of bullies humiliate her in front of the whole school. But there may be more to the story than that, and, as it turns out, Cassie and Seth aren't just two people. They're a little more supernatural than that.
Parts of this story were grating - the miscommunication trope was strong with this one, and the whole "exploring the magical world" plot line just seemed unnecessary - but I found our protagonists lovable. Cassie was so sweet and genuinely funny, while Seth has redeemed the name "Seth" for all of mankind. After acclimating to its whimsical nature, I even grew fond of the lackadaisical magic system in this world. (I, too, would get teary-eyed over a sentient microwave that hated me.)
The best part of this, though, was definitely the chemistry. Stein effortlessly combined second chance romance with friends to lovers. Cassie and Seth's past friendship and present tentative attraction felt so real: the way they bounced off each other, their ability to read one another, the consistency of that draw between them. And THE SPICE. The dirty talk in this book gave me literal goosebumps.
The vibes of this book are Bewitched meets Hocus Pocus meets Hallmark with a sprinkling of spice and a dash of I Dream of Jeannie.
Definitely a fun, lighthearted romp.
Tropes you may be looking for:
- hate to love
- second chance
- friends to lovers
- fat heroine
- virgin hero
- shifter
- fated mates
And, for those concerned about the hero's fat-shaming at the beginning of the book, I'll spoil that now: After some goading, Seth was telling the school bullies not to call her a fatass, and they knew just when to activate the backstage microphone for maximum damage.
I was very excited to listen to this book with its premise being a mix of Gilmore Girls and What We Do In The Shadows. The narration of this audiobook is great but the book itself fell very flat for me. The main character is in her late twenties but is still holding tight to things that happened in high school. This is the part that bothered me the most. She was so wrapped up in self-pity that she couldn't get on with her life. Personally, her attitude ruined the whole book for me.
How To Help A Hungry Werewolf by Charlotte Stein. The Sanctuary for Supernatural Creatures. Paranormal romantic comedy.
While I did enjoy this book, It felt somewhat immature. Pacing was a bit slow, and what I would consider world building, was lacking. Some parts were cute or funny, and there were some spicy scenes. It was not what I was expecting but I didn’t hate it. The narration was good and entertaining making it easier to continue despite the issues I had with it.
I was provided with a review copy of the audiobook and this is my honest opinion. I gave this book 3 stars. (If I am unable to leave partial stars, I will always round up.)
I am unsure if I will be continuing the series at this time. Thank you NetGalley and Charlotte Stein.
Well... this was cute!
Cassie and Seth are hilarious together, think stream of consciousness conversations. Seth is absolutely a golden retriever and it's very endearing. Cassie is sass and kindness and I loved her. Sassy and sarcastic romantic comedies are some of the only fluff I like to read and this one delivered on that for sure. Added to that some hijinks (sexy and non-sexy kinds) and you have a real winner.
The narrator did a great job with the characters. I was curious how it was going to work out with Seth's voice but honestly, Yael captured his golden retriever energy perfectly.
Thank you to NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for access to this book!
This book started off super promising. I really loved our FMC and her stream of consciousness POV was engaging to me. It was giving ADHD vibes with how her thought process jumped from a to b, but it felt authentic and was funny and charming. I also enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this story. The cozy vibes were so there. The narrator is new for me but I really enjoyed her and the inflection and tones she used for the characters. However… I have so many things I didn’t enjoy.
The pacing is off. Some points were rushed into mere sentences when they could have fleshed out more, and some were over explained but were not really relevant.
The mis-communication trope was rung dry by 70% but it kept persisting. I normally don’t dislike this trope like others but I was getting sooooooo annoyed with both MCs. The book was trying to be too many different things at once. Romance? Mystery? Fantasy? Suspense? The ‘world building’ went from being paranormal and fantastical to… too much. At multiple points I was asking myself what the actual plot of the book was centered around. Ultimately… I didn’t enjoy it as much as I really thought I would. There are many redeeming qualities and I didn’t hate it. I just didn’t love it. 3/5 stars for me.
I should have DNFed. I was at about 70% when I realized I really was not enjoying myself, but by that point, I felt like I should just push through and finish the last 30%.
With it being spooky season, I've been enjoying some paranormal romances to mix up my normal fantasy reads. I have stumbled across both good and bad ones, but unfortunately this one was not for me.
The story itself was decent - FMC moves back to her high school town after her grandmother dies to find out that her grandmother was part witch and her ex-bestfriend (MMC) is a werewolf. This turns her world upside-down as she discovers there is a whole supernatural world right under her nose that she never knew about, and that she is also a witch.
This book features friends to enemies to friends to lovers. I am not sure how I feel about the oversized/fat "rep" in this book - sometimes I feel like it was going in the right direction, and other times I felt like it really did not do it justice. The dialogue between the FMC and MMC felt very immature and cringey. I don't dislike spice in books when it is done well, but the yearning/outright "horniness" of the characters and their continued denial that they liked each other became incredibly annoying. This made up probably 30-40% of the book, at least, from approximately the 60% to 90% point of the book, which is a big reason I was very close to DNFing as it completely lost the plot.
Anyways, not all books are for everyone, and maybe this book will find the right reader.
I am appreciative of NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review. That narrator was fine, but I do wonder if I would have liked it more if I read it, like if the MMC would have seemed less immature.
DNF. Sorry! I tried this in both in print and audio. H & h's dynamic is weird, and boring. They are friends to lovers, enemies to lovers and second chance all at the same time? The banter seems just for the sake of banter-- it doesn't do anything for the beginning of the story other than make it longer. Narration is well done!
This book was so much fun and my first audiobook from Netgalley. I really enjoyed the narrator, who I'm pretty sure narrated some other rom coms I've read before. I like that this book had witches and werewolves and that it was two old friends reconnecting and learning to be supernatural/paranormal beings together. I appreciate that the author does not let Seth slide for his past actions as a teen but allows both Seth and Cassie to grow past these actions into adults who learn to trust each other again. I will be recommending this book to family and friends-- i know someone who especially loves anything to do with werewolves. Perfect for spooky season and appropriate all year round,
This one was a bit harder for me. It was a little all over the place and just missed the mark for myself. It had some cute elements but over all just wasn’t feeling any chemistry
I really enjoyed this one! It was such a cute and cozy paranormal rom-com with some spice. Perfect for a fall tbr!
Sad to say this really did not work for me. The sense of humor did not match mine, there wasn't enough plot, and i was frustrated by the characters. There's idiots in love, and then there are these two. Some people are charmed by clueless characters, but Cassie was downright juvenile. It makes for a strange tonal shift when the sex scenes are so explicit.

𝑰𝒇 𝒋𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒃𝒚 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏. 𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝑴𝑬! I love this cover. This story would be great to read around fall | October because it gives you those cozy October vibes. I rated the eBook 3 ☆, but I would say the audiobook is a 3.5 maybe 4 ☆s. The premise of the storyline is good, and I feel the author wants to shed light on a heavy topic.
Cassandra Camberwell returns to her hometown of Hollow Brook to clear out her late grandmother’s ramshackle old house. The last thing she expects is Seth Brubaker on her doorstep. Her former best friend was responsible for the worst moment of her high school life. Cassandra unearths the real reason Seth is hanging around her grandmother's house. He's a werewolf in need. Cassandra and Seth make a deal: Seth will teach her about being a witch, and Cassandra will make the potions that Seth needs until the Mating Bond is unlocked.
The audiobook is good; the narrator did a good job.

Thank you, Netgalley, and MacmillanAudio for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Came for a cute paranormal rom com and am leaving with mixed feelings. I appreciated the trigger warnings in the beginning because if there is a curvy or plus size woman on the cover I want body neutral or body positive views. I think this can be very triggering for people especially when it is the mmc to the fmc. If I hadn’t been given the opportunity by NetGalley I probably would have DNFd the book. I had the audiobook and felt like the male voice sounded like a young person compared to the cover art. I also wasn’t expecting the level of spice that happened. Was it good? sure! Did I feel like it needed that level of spice for the story? No. Over all there were some cute parts and I would be willing to give this author another try.

This was a perfect pallet cleanser. Very cozy. I would recommend it to anyone looking for fall/cozy season reads.
The FMC was strong and I loved the instinctual magic she had.
The MMC being a shifter wolf was perfect.
They try to find cures to help his “hunger” problem, which is actually hilarious. There were a lot of funny parts.
The spice at the end was different 😳
This is a slow burn filled with tension and banter.
The narrator did an amazing job voicing this book. You can clearly tell the different tones in voice between the two main characters.
This audio was great. Enjoyed the digital copy and like this one even more as the audio gave a whole new experience
This book is so charming and fun! I absolutely loved it! I am already a fan of paranormal rom coms, but this one really stood out for me! I really enjoyed the world building aspects of this book! The magic system was so interesting! I also loved the romance between the two lead characters, Cassandra and Seth. I'm not going to lie, after the prologue I was NOT inclined to like Seth, but after a few chapters I couldn't help but fall in love with him. What an absolute cinnamon roll as a hero. And the chemistry between Cassie and Seth was H.O.T. I definitely blushed while reading the steamy scenes. And the banter between the two is top notch. I laughed out loud so many times, I absolutely adored their relationship. I can't wait to read more books set in this world.
The narration of this book was excellent as well. The narrator was engaging and made the story come alive while I was listening to it!
