I picked up this book with the hope of reading a heartfelt reflection on the blessings of life and gratitude to God. Unfortunately, what I got instead felt more like a sermon or religious propaganda than a genuine, meaningful exploration of thankfulness. Such books are good to be circulated as a pamphlets inside churches instead of becoming part of any serious school curriculum.

While the premise of the book sounds lovely—teaching children about God's love and blessings—the writing feels more like a vehicle for preaching than a genuine narrative or reflective work. It reads as though the authors are using the book to deliver a sermon, with repetitive messages and an overwhelming focus on promoting faith rather than offering a unique or thoughtful perspective on gratitude. Importance of nature subsided with the thought of superstitious miracle.

The message feels forced at times, and it often comes across as more about reinforcing specific religious views than actually celebrating God's blessings in a personal or emotional way. Instead of providing children (and their parents) with tangible examples of how to thank God for everything in their lives, the book dives into overly simplistic, almost preachy language.

If you're looking for something deeply thoughtful and reflective, this isn't it. Instead, it's more of a checklist of faith-based reminders, which may work for some readers, but not for those hoping for a richer or more engaging exploration of thankfulness. Faith is nothing if one do not understand the meaning of existence of anything in this world, given to us by God.

I loved the cover on this book, it's so cute and cozy looking.

The artist has created some beautiful pictures that are very well done.

The poems and prayers flow smoothly and are easy to read without being too wordy for a young child's ears.

The only thing I didn't love was the verses mentioned were from some odd modern translation of the Bible, and it wasn't clearly labeled which version it was.

Other than that, it would make a nice gift for any young child.

A very stunningly illustrated book, perfect for parents and children to learn together to pray and praise and thank God for everything at bedtime.

An excellent resource to introduce your little ones to the God who cares about every little detail. The book contains prayers on different themes ranging from food, family, miracles, God's goodness etc.

There's a prayer the child and parent/caregiver can say together. It's also a very good springboard for deeper conversations about God. Then there's a small verse from Scripture and a prayer a caregiver/parent can pray over the child.

The entire book is illustrated with cute, fluffy animals - the kinds that will appeal to children, in soft, woodland settings.

A definite keepsake for parents and children aged 0-4 or more. I was given a complimentary copy of the book. However the views expressed are my own.

Max Lucado always gets 5 stars from me! This book was no exception to that rule!! Christian books hold a special place in our home, and I love to read them to my children. My kids loved all of the different animals found in the forest, etc. and pointed them all out, as well as made animal sounds for each. The prayers were perfect for little ears, my daughter also read along with me. I will be adding this book to our bookshelves.!

What a precious book to share God’s truth with young children. The illustrations are so soft, sweet, comforting, and appealing. The text on the page is not overwhelming. Each page has a prayer for the child to learn from, a scripture verse to help reinforce Truth, and a blessing for the parents to say over their child. This book is a wonderful way to expose young children to prayer and talking with God. I think even some older children would enjoy and benefit from reading this book or having it read to them. I highly recommend it. I think it would also be a lovely gift book for a special child even if not your own child. What could be more comforting than the truths of God’s Word?

This book contains a series of prayers to say and read with children. The prayers are very sweet, each including a short Bible verse to go with it.

There are prayers ranging from God's goodness, to giving thanks for food. It is such a great way to introduce children to the wide scope that they have when they pray, as sometimes it can be hard for them to think of what they might like to talk about.

The illustrations are beautiful and each prayer page has different families of animals, perfect for little ones who love cute fluffy creatures.

This book is a perfect bedtime read, and will become a staple in our household.

This keepsake book also includes blessings for parents to speak over their little ones. After talking to God each night, your child will fall asleep feeling joyful and cared for. I always love how Lucado make a story meaningful for children to read.

This is a very sweet book of prayers to teach your children and to pray over your children. We read this book all the way through at once due to it being an ARC, but I think it works even better to have the hard copy and to choose a prayer your child (or you) thinks is the best for the occasion. My daughter (5) had a couple of prayers that she asked me to slow down on so that she could repeat the lines after me. My son (2) loved looking at the pictures and pointing out the animals. The illustrations are really cute, and I very much appreciate the verse references included to help me connect this book to the Bible. Definitely one I will be picking up in hard copy when it releases. We read this book through NetGalley.

A Precious Board Book-

With a scripture included for every prayer, this sweet board book shares prayers for ages 0-4. Prayers for growing to be more like God, seeing God’s miracles, exploring God’s world and thanking God for everything, to name a few. The premise is simple and stated in this way- “We can teach them to talk to God about anything, any time and all the time. We can’t be with them always, but God can.” So, why not teach prayer from infancy? That said, this book would be an excellent gift for expectant parents.

Max Lucado remains the master of rhyming verse poetic meter. Like magic, his prose flows effortlessly through the storyline, from beginning to end. Prayers, blessings and scripture all come together for those precious times with our children, teaching them the habit of talking to God from an early age.

A beautiful book of prayer and poetry for kids. I love the simplicity along with the depth. The illustrations are perfectly suited. A must-have book for every family.

What a great early devotional for young children. I love the highlighted words on each page and the prayer to pray over the child each day.

There is many blessings of God and this book is a reminder of those blessing. The blessing of family, church, animals, and food just to name a few. When reading with your child, you will share the many blessings of God which is a reminder for us all how much he loves us. When we acknowledge the blessings of God, we become thankful and walk in humility.

Strongly recommend this book for many readings with your blessings that God gave you in your children.

What a beautiful book of prayers for children! My kids enjoyed reading the prayers before bed. Everything was written in a way that was easy for my kids to understand and relate to their lives. This would make a perfect baptism or first communion gift!

My kids loved this book. I can’t wait to get a hard copy for our bookshelf, and to gift this to my friends. The art work is fantastic and my kids wanted to linger on the pictures. Reading these prayers before we go to school and before bed has been so helpful to bring the Lord into these little transitional moments. Having them read the prayers also sparks discussions that are fruitful, as we discover more about God and his character. We love it! 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When my own children were little, I looked for books just like this: simple, beautifully illustrated, and educational, with a distinct Christian message. God Bless This Child fits that description perfectly. It is important to teach children to pray, not only to ask for something, but to worship God Himself and thank Him for everything He is and has done for us. Very sweet book with several prayers for children. This would be an excellent guide for those kids that are learning to pray. The accompanying illustrations are very peaceful and sweet.
