This was a little bit of a snooze fest. After a fairly interesting book 1, book 2 did not deliver on anything substantial. The romance was meh, the plotline did not move, it takes many many repetitive pages to get a very slow story reveal. Hope the last book is not as repetitive and more fast paced. I also did not like the narrator m7ch. The accents were a little bit too crawly.

I read the book previously and jumped at the chance to listen to the audio version and enjoy the story for a second time. Second books in trilogies can often be seen as filler, but this one advances the story well. I enjoyed the narration by Brittany Pressley and appreciated the southern drawl and other ways she differentiated the characters. I stand by my original review below and now can say I enjoyed it in both formats. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the audio book via NetGalley.

Spellbinding and spine-tingling. The Mirror is the second book in Nora Roberts, The Lost Bride Trilogy. You MUST read the books in order as it is one complete story and there is little to none catching up from the first book, Inheritance (Nov 2023). Sonya MacTavish inherits an historic family house on the coast of Maine. To fully inherit she must stay for three years. She invites her best friend Cleo, an artist and illustrator, to live with her. Her love interest Trey (a lawyer), cousin Owen and beloved adopted dog Yoda, become their own Scooby Doo gang.

The manor house comes with helpful ghosts and is also home of the evil woman in black. She cursed the house with a legend that has a bride from every generation dying on their wedding day. The second book is just as creepy as the first. Sonya and Cleo love the manor house and deal well with its quirks. Sonya is finding that she is being drawn into a Mirror which allows her to witness the passing of the brides. She is trying to figure out how they can break the curse which involves getting back the wedding rings of the brides. The gang is there for safety and support.

In addition to the paranormal story there is the continuing romance between Sonya and Trey. I love the banter of the friend group and especially love the deep friendship between Sonya and Cleo. Sonya also continues to work on building her own company. And I like how they want to be a part of the community and host a summer party for family and many of those in town. I had a hard time putting the book down. Now I need to wait to see how everything gets resolved in the third book.

I can not emphasize how much I loved this book and how much I love this trilogy. It is going to be painful for the last book to come out! Nora has blown be away with this story and I literally could not finish this fast enough! 6/5 stars!

Nora Roberts' The Mirror masterfully weaves a tale of mystery and magic, exploring themes of identity, love, and the complexities of human relationships. Set against a backdrop of a small, enchanting town, the story follows the protagonist as she unravels family secrets and confronts her own past.

This was my first dive into Nora Roberts and I was so thrilled. I decided to listen to the audio of The Inheritance first so that I wouldn't be lost. I am not typically a romance genre person but these books had the perfect amount of romance mixed with spooky haunted house vibes for fall. I really enjoyed the story line, the characters and the setting.

The pacing was a tad slow at times but the emotional depth and intricate plot was enough to keep me engaged and dying to find out how it ends. Roberts was definitely able to blend romance and suspense that has me craving the next one!

I would say this one be a great series for new or long-time Nora Roberts fans.

Nora Roberts never misses! I gobbled up this audiobook in less than 18 hours. The narrator was amazing and contributed to the perfectness that was this book. Her narration really made the characters come to life in my mind. The Mirror follows the story of Sonya MacTavish, who has inherited a haunted estate and the mysteries of the Lost Bride. Through memories, haunting flashbacks, and with the help of her best friend, new boyfriend and newly discovered cousin, Sonya is torn deeper and deeper into solving a centuries-old curse that must be broken—and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

I want to thank St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for providing the e-ARC and ALC for review purposes.

The Mirror is the second book in The Lost Bride Trilogy and had a heavier dose of paranormal activity in this one. I loved the characters stories, their attitudes, and interactions all give good vibes which is necessary because I need balance from the spooky crazy ghost lady.

I loved the first book and while this wasn’t quite as engaging as that one I still enjoyed being back at the manor and will definitely be reading the finial one when it comes out.

The Mirror by Nora Roberts is the second book in the Lost Bride trilogy.
The narrator did a good job. The narration was easy to understand and listen to.
This book picks up where the first book, The Inheritance, left off. I was excited for book two because I felt like we were going to get some more answers about the seven brides. Well, that didn't happen. We basically received zero answers and repeated the same things that happened in book one. I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't. Hopefully, book three will give us the answers we want.

The Mirror
The Lost Bride Trilogy, #2
Nora Roberts
In book 1 The Inheritance: The Lost Bride Trilogy we met Sonya MacTavish; she was shocked when she learned her father had a twin brother he had never met. Collin Poole. He has left her everything he owned. She arrives at the Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine. Its all hers with one requirement, she must live there three years. When she arrives at the mansion she meets Trey, a lawyer. He admits the place is cursed. Sonya is determined to break the curse.
In 1806, Astrid Poole was murdered before her marriage was consummated and her wedding ring is stolen. She is not the only bride to lose her life. Seven brides all gave their lives and their wedding rings.
Sonya hears footsteps, doors slamming, and music playing. Hester Dobbs is an evil ghost. She wants the mansion for herself and cursed the Poole Brides. At 3am each morning Hester jumps off the cliff killing herself over and over again. Not all the ghosts are evil, Jack is a child that enjoys playing with dogs and cats. There is a ghost that does the dishes and keeps the house clean. Then there is one that plays music that fits the mood. Owen is a cousin to Sonya, “the favorite cousin.” Trey, the young lawyer and Sonya fall in love and form a strong relationship. Cloe is a friend of Sonya and comes to live with her. She and Owen form a relationship.
I enjoyed this installment of The Lost Bride Trilogy. The narrator did a superb job.
Like book 1 this one ends with a cliff hanger. I hope book 3 comes out soon!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this book for review.

The Mirror is such a wonderful blend of romance, mystery, and fantasy. Nora Robert’s has always been a comfort read for me. These were the first romance books I read and since then Nora Roberts has always been an auto-buy author.

The Mirror is the second book in the Bride Trilogy and is such a great continuation of Sonya’s story. Sonya has inherited a mansion in Maine from a long lost uncle with one stipulation, she must live in the house. When Sonya gets there she discovers a home that is haunted by many different ghosts and one evil spirit. Sonya works to discover the deaths of the brides who were murdered in the mansion and how to defeat and banish the evil spirit.

I enjoyed this installment of the Bride Trilogy. One of the aspects of Nora Roberts books that I enjoy and seek out is her depiction of found families and female bonds. Across the board I think she does an exemplary job of portraying women as strong and compassionate and highlighting the importance of friendships for females. This book did not disappoint in that aspect.

I will say that The Mirror was a bit slower then some of the other books she’s written, it also leans much more on the ghost hunt and the other relationships in the FMC’s life and less on the romance which I missed but I anticipate the next book will have more of that.

I listened to the audiobook of this and I loved the narrator’s depiction of most of the characters with one exception, there was a character from New Orleans and the way the narrator depicted her voice grated on me. Unfortunately she’s in this book much more than the first.

This is a great book to read if you are looking for a compelling ghost story with a sprinkling of romance.

Thank you macmillan audio and netgalley for the audio arc.

The Inheritance was one of my favorite books of 2023 and I was so excited to see The Mirror available to review. The Mirror leaves off right where The Inheritance ended with Sonya and Owen going into the mirror where Sonya sees a glimpse of the past and the murder of a bride on her wedding day. The bride's wedding ring torn from her finger. After returning from the mirror, Sonya is determined to find a way to break the curse of the Lost Bride Manor.

The audiobooks for this series is amazing. Brittany Pressley does a phenomenal job in giving each character their unique presence in these books. Her narration brings another level to this already amazing series. Although The Mirror was slower in pacing than the first book, it gave a lot of background to the previous brides of the manor and the curse. It also did a great job in building the story up for what I am hoping is a fantastic conclusion to this series. I am so excited to see what is next for these characters.

The Mirror is available November 19th.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to review The Mirror. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*The Mirror* by Nora Roberts, narrated by Brittany Pressley, drew me in with its intriguing premise and haunting atmosphere. Sonya MacTavish's inheritance of a Victorian mansion filled with eerie sounds and mysterious visions set the stage for a captivating story. The way the haunted elements were woven into the narrative kept me engaged, and Pressley's narration enchanted Sonya's experiences.

However, as the story unfolded, I found myself yearning for a shift in perspective. Exploring the story from another character's point of view could have added a new layer of depth and excitement to the plot. I felt that a fresh angle would have made the unfolding mystery even more dynamic and zestful, leaving me intrigued and eager for more.

While the atmosphere and storytelling were compelling, the lack of varied viewpoints left me wanting more from the narrative. I appreciated the gothic elements and the exploration of family secrets, but a broader perspective could have enhanced the experience.

.The Mirror is the second installation in The Lost Bride trilogy. The story picks up where the cliffhanger in The Inheritance leaves off. I absolutely love the two strong women characters, Sonya and Cleo. I love the way that they are building a new life in Maine in the haunted manor house that Sonya inherited. I look forward to the final book in this saga.

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the advanced digital copy of the book. It will be published on November 19, 2024.

The Mirror while an engaging story did not captivate me the way the first book in the series did. This book seemed to drag somewhat for me, however saying that I am really looking forward to book three in the series to see how the story wraps up. This story did give you lots of information about the former brides and perhaps that was the idea behind this second installment in the trilogy, to get you in touch with all of the brides so that Ms. Roberts can wrap it up in her usual dynamic style. I received the audiobook version of this book from Net Galley and the narrator did an amazing job.

The Mirror, by Nora Roberts is the second installment of the trilogy. I read the book first, but I liked the audio book even better. The voice acting was outstanding bringing each character to life. I stayed up all night listening to it.

The second installment of this trilogy (I'm assuming) was just as good as the first. It had been quite awhile since reading the first book but I was easily brought back into the story. I enjoyed listening to the audio this time.

While this book was not right for me, I ended up DNF'ing at 51%, it may absolutely be for you. I adored the first book and found it deeply captivating. I am a big fan of Nora Roberts's fantasy romance and romantic suspense, so I went into this book expecting the same experience as the first. I appreciated that having left book 1 on such a cliffhanger, we immediately jumped right back into it where we left off. She does an excellent job of reminding the reader of the setting, characters, and plot, without info-dumping and dropping pages of reminders. I was worried that I had forgotten too much of the first book to be able to enjoy the second fully. If you have the same worries - worry not! You will be brought right back into the story with no issues whatsoever.

Once we got past that first bit of excitement, the pace completely changed and this is where it started to lose me. The pacing is extremely slow and the remainder (until the 51% point where I dropped off) is a recounting of their daily lives. Work schedules, meal preparation, errands. There are daily interactions with the ghosts of the house, but they are so frequent that they start to lose their excitement. Ghosts were doing so much around the house that I started to feel jealous! Curated playlists, rooms being cleaned, clothes being set out, firewood being brought in and fires started in the mornings. Wouldn't that be nice? At night, we would get dreams and experiences that would give us the backstory of each of the lost brides, but again, they happened so frequently and in the same manner that it felt like a daily routine.

I struggled with the decision to DNF the book. The writing itself is excellent, and exactly what you come to expect from Nora Roberts. Brittany Pressley does an exceptional job of the narration. But as someone who always struggles with slow-paced books, I was beginning to forget I was reading this book at all. And when I'd pick it up, I'd find myself drifting off and thinking of my own daily routines and to-do lists (which included all the things that these ghosts were doing for our main characters).

If you don't mind a second book in a trilogy that really sinks you into the daily life of the characters and helps you to slowly learn all the backstory, then you will enjoy this book and I encourage you to pick this series up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced listener copy. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Special thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this audiobook. The narrator of this audiobook is fantastic, you can easily distinguish between the characters in the book based on her accent or the way her voice sounds. I highly recommend listening to it if you can.

I can't believe I have to wait again! I mistakenly thought that this was the last book, but there is one more and now I have to wait. I am still loving all of the characters and the manor that is just as alive as the characters in the novel and I will now be not so patiently waiting for the third book and finding out how and if they get rid of Dobbs and get the 7 rings back.

Sonya MacTavish and Cleo have started to settle into the family home and a new routine. With the help and added comfort of having Trey and Owen around, they have all begun to plan for and anticipate some of the more unusual happenings of the manor. Walking through the mirror has now shown itself to be a necessity with the pull on Sonya to discover just how and maybe why Dobbs is still hanging around.

Book 2 ... I have been looking forward to this book, the first book left off with such a cliffhanger. Getting reacquainted with these characters is like seeing old friends. Really enjoyed how they all mesh together and support each other. The writing styles of NR are realistic enough to make me laugh and, at times, cry. Another cliffhanger leaves me wanting book 3 to hurry up, but I suppose I will have to wait another year for the conclusion of this trilogy.

Thanks go to NetGalley for the early reviewer audiobook of this amazing book.

This picks up right at the end of The Inheritance so make sure to read that one first! Sonya is all moved into her haunted mansion. With the help of her best friend Cleo, newly found cousin Owen, and new love Trey she's trying to rid the house of Hester Dobbs who has been cursing Sonya's family for generations.

I really enjoyed the friendship between Sonya and Cleo as they find their rhythm living together again. I also was looking forward to experiencing more hauntings and learning more about the brides. Unfortunately the plot fell flat about 60% through. Everything started to happen in a pattern. We would hear about their work days, some doors banging, a new find, and a group meal to discuss what just happened. This happens over and over again to the point where I was starting to root for Hester Dobbs to just end someone to spice it up a bit. I do not need to hear the tedious details of each day and every meal they decide on where the characters discuss what we just read.

Overall, I think this could have been a duology but appreciate the characters and hope they find some closure in the next installment.

This is book two in the lost brides trilogy. The book picked up right where book one left off and took the reader through a journey! All the characters are so much closer and understanding of the curse and each character now seems to have a reason, a deeper reason, to find an end to the curse. Sonya has major character development throughout this novel, book two, it just makes the reader incredibly happy for her! But alas, this is a trilogy, so the story was not concluded here and in fact…this cliffhanger was worse than book one. In a good way, because dang it! I need book three now!!!!!!
