The Mirror is a suspenseful continuation of The Lost Bride Trilogy. It's set in a manor on the coast of Maine that's haunted by the rage of a jealous witch and her curse that targets a bride in each generation.

In the first book of the trilogy, Inheritance, Sonya inherits the manor from an unknown uncle and begins to learn about its history and ghostly inhabitants. In The Mirror, Sonya - as the next generation of the Poole family - finds a portal to the past that allows her to bear witness to the deaths of the brides on what should have been the happiest days of their lives. She begins to realize that the manor has been waiting for her as the next generation to break the curse and to expel the evil from the manor. Not alone in her quest, she has the help of her very appealing boyfriend Trey, bestie Cleo, and her newly found cousin, Owen.

Roberts does a masterful job of balancing the scary with slices of everyday life, small town experiences, career challenges, and the give and take of this crew's friendship. It's rewarding to see Cleo learning how to cook, Sonya focusing on her business as a freelance artist, and the romance building between Sonya and Trey, as well as between Cleo and Owen. It's also fun to meet the benevolent ghostly residents of the manor.

This is not a standalone.

These characters are some of my favorite!! I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to have whole bodied characters who continue to progress the story on so many different levels, action and emotion. This second book was everything I was longing for when book one ended. It’s set the stage for book three and is constantly keeping me engaged. Incredible writing, the imagery is just out of this world. If only I could have a weekend trip to lost bride manor! Thank your NetGalley and the publishers for access to the audio ARC - the narration is unlike any other and it’s an astounding series !

Excellent mystery, romance and supernatural thriller, A sequel to the previous novel, this book jumps into the ghost driven world of a Maine manor. I love the way NR describes history and family and romance. Her characters seem to come to life. She does have a certain pattern of her plot but I enjoy the story so much I don’t mind it. The romance was sexy and sprinkled around the mystery. I do think NR has a talent for setting the story in a place that sounds like somewhere you can visit. I loved the friendly ghosts and the mystery surrounding the manor. The ghost playing songs was funny. I enjoyed the magical moments and the descriptions of the history. The plot was a little slower this novel but suspenseful and full of surprises.

Ghosts, and witches and romance, oh my!

This was book 2 of the The Lost Bride Trilogy. I enjoyed everything about this book. I loved our heroine Sonja and her wonderful boyfriend Tres. I love Sonja's friend Chloe and and her relationship with Owen. The story of the murdered brides is fascinating. I love the ghosts and the learning about the evil witch. I am so ready for the final book of this trilogy. I can't wait for the battle ahead.

Thank-you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced listener copy. Brittany Presley does an amazing job narrating, and kept me enthralled listening to the audiobook.

I highly recommend the Mirror. If you haven't read Inheritance, start with that book. It's a great ghost story and I really look forward to book 3.

I know Roberts is an author that surprises me book after book after book. I’ve literally read every single book she’s written unless she has other pseudonyms besides JD Robb. I’ve even searched out her very difficult to find Irish Thoroughbred first book, so the fact that this woman can still keep me on the edge of my seat and engaged from start to finish is completely fascinating to me. The Mirror is no different for me. I love how she’s decided to take this paranormal trip in her later In life books. I love the creativity she creates, just the possibilities are endless and she takes us everywhere. Her writing is like smooth poetry I can’t get enough. Honestly I want more of her books the second I close them and I know I’m not the only one like this Nora Roberts/JD Robb is an amazing author that doesn’t stop.

Brittany Pressley is a narrator that I almost search for just for her. I love her voice and the way she just pulls you in no matter what she’s reading. Just like Nora Roberts is poetry. Pressley is like smooth silk upon your ears. They are just in an unbeatable duo and I’m always so excited every time they release a book.

I was excited to read book two of this series, but unfortunately, I am pretty disappointed. This book is 450 pages of filler. It is essentially the same slice-of-life story from book one. I do love the characters, especially the house ghosts, but there are only so many dinners with the four friends that I can take. I don't think I will read book 3.

As always, Brittney Pressley is amazing on audio.

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year! I read 𝐈𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, Book 1, last year, and I loved it, but it ended with a major cliffhanger.

This book picks up right where book one left off. Sonya has inherited a gorgeous manor that has been in her family for ages. The problem is that seven past brides in the family have all been killed for some reason, and their wedding rings were taken by the first bride, who is now a malevolent ghost. Sonya is determined to break this curse of the brides. In this book, more dark family secrets are revealed as Sonya witnesses past events about the brides and their husbands, which she can see through an antique mirror.

This is a fantastic ghost story with plenty of ghosts, eerie events, and a gothic-like manor on the Maine coast.

Sonya and her friendship with Cleo are a favorite part of mine. They are both funny, strong, independent women. Plus, they are incredibly loyal to one another, love good food, and appreciate a fine man. The sweet romance between Sonya and Trey continues to bloom; even Cleo finds some romance herself.

As Sonya sees more events resulting in the deaths of the brides and others in her family lineage, the question remains: How can the curse be broken?

Once again, I’m left waiting, wondering and wanting the next book.

I highly recommend reading these books in order. I also loved having the audiobook from @macmillan.audiobook to pair with my reading. It was a fantastic listening experience.

Thank you @stmartinspress for this gifted advanced readers copy. Thank you @macmillan.audio for the gifted audiobook.

After being completely enthralled by the first book, I was thrilled to be invited to read an advance copy of the second book of this trilogy.

Nora Roberts is an auto-buy author for me, and I read this one slowly, trying to savor the story; it picks up right where Inheritance left off and kept my attention throughout.

Very enjoyable second title for the trilogy and I’m absolutely looking forward to the final title 🙂

I was fortunate enough to receive an ALC as well and though Brittany Pressley’s narration took a little while for me to get used to her performance certainly adds to the story.

Recommended!

The much-anticipated follow up in the Lost Bride Trilogy, The Mirror picks up shortly after the events of Inheritance with Sonya and her friends at the haunted Victorian home in Maine that she has inherited, with the antagonizing spirit of Hester. Visions of am antique mirror come to Sonya until one day, it appears and she’s able to travel through it like the Looking Glass, only to be in the past as a bride is murdered. Sonya is left trying to solve the mystery and break the curse (and Hester’s grip) once and for all.
I felt this moved much slower than its predecessor and didn’t progress the storylines very much, and felt very much like too much filler with the day-to-day of Sonya & Cleo. However, I feel it’s still a haunting romance perfect for this season, without delving into any horror or scary parts. The narrator Brittany Pressley did a great job at bringing all of their stories to life.

OKAY NORA!! I will need to gather your backlog. This book was an adventure! The world and character-building were executed nicely! I went into this solely on the cover and author. I had never read a book by Nora Roberts but have always heard good things, and I must say the other readers were not wrong.

This Victorian paranormal fantasy romance was atmospheric and gripping. Sonya MacTaviah has inherited a haunted mansion with a mirror that appears randomly and pulls her in and out of time. During her trips, she uncovers the mystery behind the deaths of the brides of her family line and uncovers a curse that has been set upon them by a jilted lover.

The audio version of this work of art was entertaining from the first line Brittany Pressley did an awesome job! I will be reading book one of the Lost Bride Trilogy before the end of the year to prepare for the final installment!

Thank you Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and Nora Roberts for this ALC. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily and uncoerced.

Nora Roberts has created a story that speaks to the power of friendship, family, and not giving in to grief and fear. This book has a large cast of characters, and I love that each character has their own personality and the main characters respect and include themselves in the lives of the manor ghosts. This is the second book in the trilogy, and I am excited to see where the story leads in the third book. I was given the opportunity to listen to the audio book through NetGalley, and the narrator did an amazing job going between characters and voices. Definitely one of the best audio books I've listened to recently.

As I delved into "The Mirror," the eagerly anticipated sequel in The Lost Bride Trilogy, I found myself instantly transported back to the eerie world I'd left behind a year ago. The seamless continuation of the story made it feel as if no time had passed at all.

I'd almost forgotten the delicious thrill of the haunted house element that permeated this series. The moment I cracked open the book, that familiar sense of unease and excitement washed over me. The promise of unraveling more about the lost brides' mysteries was what initially drew me in, and I wasn't disappointed. I was treated to a rich tapestry of the brides' stories, each one adding depth to the overarching narrative.

While the story had its strengths, I couldn't help but feel that at times, it dragged its feet. Some scenes, like our fearless protagonist's pizza dinners with friends, felt a bit superfluous. Don't get me wrong — I adore our main character. Her courage in the face of living in a haunted mansion is admirable, and I found myself relating to her determination not to give in to fear. However, after 419 pages, I was hoping to see more progress in her quest to break the curse.

One bright spot amidst the ghostly encounters was the growing attraction between Owen and Cleo. Their budding romance added a lovely layer to the story, providing a counterpoint to the main plot's intensity.

I must give a shout-out to Brittany Presley's narration in the audiobook version. Her ability to bring each character to life with distinct voices was nothing short of magical. It added an extra dimension to my experience, enhancing the vivid imagery already present in the writing.

While "The Mirror" didn't quite capture my heart the way the first book did, it still held its own charms. The blend of paranormal elements and romantic subplots kept me engaged, even if the pacing sometimes tested my patience. As the second installment in the trilogy, it's done its job of stoking my curiosity. I find myself wondering how all these ghostly threads will finally come together in the conclusion and I'm eager to see how this haunting tale will ultimately unfold.

The second volume of Nora Roberts latest trilogy brings us further into the world of the Lost Bride. Sonya and her friends continue exploring the stories of the brides in the haunted house she has inherited from her family. As her relationship with Trey grows into love Sonya becomes increasing vulnerable as the next Lost Bride. Can't wait for the third and final installment.

The Mirror is the second book in the Lost Bride Trilogy. Sonya MacTavish inherited a massive Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine after an uncle, who she never knew existed, dies. She never expected to learn that the house was haunted upon moving in. In the second book of this trilogy series, Sonia dreams of her family’s past and their untimely demises along with some good times. She continues to locate and collect portraits of Poole brides. She begins to feel pulled toward an antique mirror that comes and goes as it pleases. Sonya and her cousin, Owen, are able to walk through the mirror and witness the experiences of their family firsthand. Hester Dobbs is an evil witch who has cursed the Poole family and causes the death of the bride and if that’s not enough, she steals their wedding ring. Sonya must stop this curse and find the lost seven rings, otherwise, this curse will continue, and will she be next?
This story is well-balanced between present time and jumps back into previous Poole history. It is also well-balanced between haunted house and romance. It’s the perfect combination for my reading wants. The descriptions of the characters, their environment, and the experiences is well done and allows the reader to feel immersed in the story with the characters. I really enjoy Clover and Molly’s characters. Who wouldn’t love a 1970’s hippie who communicates to you through songs or a lost bride who cleans up after you and picks out your outfits?
I listened to this book via audiobook. Brittany Pressley was the narrator. Her reading was very clear, and she had good pacing. It was clear to the reader when there were changes in chapters and timelines. Her voices and inflections for each character were well developed and easily identified between characters.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook and to provide my honest feedback.

Once again, Roberts writes a book that draws you in.

What I love about The Mirror is the fact we continue the journey first started in Inheritance. We delve further into the past through the mirror to gain glimpses of the past - finally seeing the other brides, their endings, and even the endings of male family members as well. You finally feel up to speed on the history of the family and the home. You also continue to see how Sonya continues to adapt to the home and to the community. We have two budding romances that make you feel that the next book may have a happy ending for both couples living in the same mansion. I appreciated getting to see the mansion opened to the public and the ghosts being able to take part in the moment. A reminder to the main ghost that Sonya and family plan to fight for what is right and to end her negative reign over the family and home. Roberts continues to develop the characters in order for you to fully emotionally invest in them and their journeys, triumphs, failures, lives, and deaths.

The only qualm I have with the book is the pacing. Yes, we are given more information about the past thanks to the mirror; however, there aren’t enough moments, or perhaps not the right moments, to maintain the tension. We lose the threat of the curse considering she’s collected all seven rings and yet when you get to that reveal, you don’t feel the threat she poses anymore. This is especially after most of her threats and scares are minor parlor tricks. The only time you feel slightly unnerved is when Trey continues to watch her plunge to her death every night. Otherwise, we forget that there is a real threat to people’s lives. Although, you have to wonder - is there really a threat and what is it? That the ghosts are forever stuck and no one can live in the house? The book loses the momentum it had, which means book three will have a lot of work to do to pick up where the cliffhanger left off.

Thoroughly enjoyed book 2 in the Lost Bride Trilogy. It picks up right where book 1, The Inheritance, left off. I enjoyed learning more about the Poole family history and continuing with Sonya's story along with her relationship with Trey.

I absolutely love Brittany Pressley's narration! She really one of my favorites and always makes a book even better to listen to!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Another winner for Nora Roberts.. A lot of the storyline felt repetitive from previous books. I'm not as fond of these characters as I have been with past series characters.

The Mirror audiobook picks up seamlessly from where Nora Roberts' The Inheritance left off, with Sonya and her dashing cousin, Owen, stepping through the mystical mirror together. Because it starts right at this juncture, having read (or listened to) the first book is almost essential. Knowing that The Mirror is the second book in the Lost Bride trilogy also prepares the listener for a cliffhanger ending, leading up to the final showdown in book three.

Narrated by Brittany Pressley, this audiobook shines. Pressley's skill in differentiating the characters brings them vividly to life—her portrayals of Sonya, Cleo, Trey, Owen, and even the ghostly residents of Poole Manor add a layer of richness and depth to the story that truly enhances the listening experience.

While The Mirror takes a slower pace than the first installment, it does so purposefully, delving deeply into the tragic history of the brides and the evolving relationships between Cleo and Owen, Sonya and Trey, and, most importantly, Sonya and Cleo. Rather than a romance, this book leans into its ghost story elements, which feels like a refreshing shift. The tales of the doomed brides are haunting and heartbreaking, yet they carry a glimmer of hope in the enduring power of true love.

Knowing that the third novel will bring about Hester’s downfall has me eagerly anticipating its release. Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance copy—listening to this was a true treat!

Trilogies are weird. Specifically the second book. Sometimes it is my favorite (Hunger Games), sometimes it isn't. This one goes into the isn't column. I enjoyed Inheritance far more. This was more a continuation of it (more so than your typical second book in a trilogy). I just don't feel that the story moved forward all that much.

Now, this is Nora Roberts and I love her writing. I very much enjoyed the book. But my expectations were insanely high, so this fell short. That is really a me thing though.

Brittany Pressley does a great job narrating, as she always does.

I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
