Bite your nails page turner. Be ready to stay up all night.
Lisa scottoline is right!! A thriller you can't put down.
whodunnit murder mysteries strong women summary: One of the best books I’ve read in awhile
Such a fun read in wedding season!
Girls night out
Apparently some people's idea of fun is taking their friend to a murder house for her bachelorette party?
This book was way too outlandish to be enjoyable. Reveal after reveal at the end was just absurd. I almost DNFed about halfway through but with the promise of a shocking ending per other people's reviews, I stuck with it. I should have just looked for spoilers and saved myself some time!
Audiobook narration was average, with the narrator's attempts at Australian and Long Island accents being painful to listen to.
Skip this one.
Really enjoyed this book. For a long time I was thinking it was going to be a predictable thriller in a unique setting but then the last few chapters really got me! Thought I had everything all figured out (like the true crime sleuth I am) and the author proved me very wrong. I listened to the audio book and the narration was great. I threw my sister a true crime themed bachelorette party and I was really upstaged by these characters, that's for sure. Highly recommend.
This one was long for the ending result. Lots of information for a twist that wasn’t worth the ride.
The story follows Alex, who is on the brink of marriage but finds herself embroiled in an investigation involving the 666 killer. The narrative skillfully alternates between the past and present, maintaining a smooth flow throughout.
The book excels at keeping readers on their toes; just when I thought I had all the pieces figured out, a significant twist at the end completely took me by surprise. This fresh approach distinguished it from other books I've read, and I appreciated the clever pacing. However, despite the strong finish, some parts of the middle section felt somewhat underdeveloped and struggled to hold my attention fully. Overall, I enjoyed the book, especially how the author nailed the ending, which redeemed the earlier slower parts for me.
"The Bachelorette Party" was a fun mystery/triller. I loved the story line and couldn't stop listening. The narrator kept my attention and kept me engaged.
This book was SO good. I was drawn in from the beginning until the end in one sitting. If you like suspense, with twists on top of twists, I highly recommend this book!
Alex seems to have it all, her dream internship at a news program and a perfect fiancé. Her friends surprise her with a bachelorette weekend at a haunted lodge in the Catskills, infamous for the brutal murder of the 666 Killer's victim. But when a blizzard traps them inside, things take a dark turn. Alex wakes up to find her friends missing, blood on her hands, and the chilling possibility that the killer has returned.
The dual timelines, one focusing on the party and the other on Alex's research, promise intrigue but ultimately feel chaotic. The characters lack depth, and the podcast-style chapters disrupt the suspense instead of enhancing it. While there are twists, they don’t provide the emotional impact one would hope for in a thriller. Overall, it’s an intriguing premise that falls flat, leaving readers wanting more cohesion and tension.
This book wasn't good. Was not good.
It was a complete mess. The story was bland and Alex irritated me so bad.... It felt like I was stuck in. B rate movie.
I won't spoil it for you but I literally don't need much to enjoy a book but this one was painful
2 stars
In short, this book was not good.
I don’t want to put spoilers on this site, but a full review 🚨with spoilers🚨 will be posted to Goodreads. This book is incredibly difficult to review without spoilers.
Thank you to Netgalley and Highbridge Audio for the gifted copy.
It was never what you thought it would be. There were so many different twists and turns. I was constantly kept guessing. Talk about an immersive story.
That was… something. Dual timeline, most of the book happening in one night. The story was fast paced but the big reveal was an eye roll
3.5 stars. I listened to the audiobook, which probably made me enjoy the book slightly less. I did not like the narrator as it made the book feel more one dimensional than it was.
I guessed at least one of the twists, but this was generally an enjoyable thriller ride despite some of the predictability.

The Bachelorette by Sandra Block
Genre: Thriller

Thank you to RBMedia and NetGalley for my ALC of The Bachelorette by Sandra Block. The opinions in this review are solely my own.
Synopsis:
Alex Conley is living a pretty great life. She is marrying as amazingly handsome, wealthy, and kind man (Jay), has a great job as an investigative crime journalist, and is going on her Bachelorette weekend with her two best friends, Melody and Lainey. They have planned a nice getaway at a VRBO cabin in the Catskills, which also happens to be the former crime scene where the infamous 666 serial killer murdered one of his victims. It ALSO happens to be the same case that Alex investigated.
After a fun evening of drinking and enjoying themselves at the cabin, Alex wakes up to find that Melody and Lainey are nowhere to be found and amidst a heavy snowfall, she is stuck wondering if they're still alive and if she will be next...
Opinion:
Overall, I enjoyed this thriller. I liked the setting of the remote murder cabin and that the main character was an investigative crime journalist. I liked the plot in general, but thought the ending was a little bit predictable. There were a few red herrings to throw the reader off, but in the end I kind of guessed who did it. It was worth reading and I also thought the narrator had a pleasant voice to listen to, though her Australian accent for Jay was a little weird haha...
I did it y'all!
I know the formula for how to get a novel published!! Here's how it goes:
1 Come up with a pitch for a book
2.Include EVERY single WOKE University vocabulary term
3.Make every Christian character a horrible biggot (double signing bonus if said Christian in a male and a sexual preditor)
4.Have a trans drag queen that uses the pronouns They/Them and you will automatically get Jodi Piccolt to write a blurb for you
5. Have a lesbian WNBA player--call up Jenna Bush Hager
6.Figure out every intersectionality complex one person could have and put them into one character....Golden.
7.Finally....insert random scenes or conversations about gun control laws and "woman's rights" (or what I like to call baby murder) just to get your point across, well let's just say you will have a gaurenteed 5 book deal awaiting you.
Never mind a completely horribly written book.
Never mind the absolutele DUMB main character
Never mind the total pointless waste of time this book was.
I cannot believe how this book ended. I am utterly shocked that Sandra Block is a published author. This was horrible. It was written like a 5th grade boy, but his mom who is woke and project toxic empathy got hold of his LA assignment and added her agenda to it.
She probably mailed this manuscript in along with her early voter packet for Kamala Harris in Georgia....or California, take your pick
I received this early advance copy read of The Bachelorette Party and provided my own honest review without being influenced .
I highly recommend skipping this book, I am proud to raise the flag of failing out of Woke U.
The Bachelorette Party
by Sandra Block
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Bachelorette Party by Sandra Block, is a total wild ride! It’s about Alex, who’s super into true crime, so her friends throw her a bachelorette party at a house tied to a famous serial killer. Naturally, things go VERY wrong. The twists kept me guessing the whole time, and just when I thought I had it figured out—bam, another curveball! It’s a quick read and totally binge-worthy. My only meh moment was the fiancé subplot—it felt a bit off, but overall, this book had me hooked. Definitely recommend if you're into thrillers!
I think fans of slasher films/final girl movies/books will enjoy this. This was not one of my most favorite recent listens, but it still was decently good. The main character and narrator was slightly annoying-bordering-on-irritating but I’m not entirely sure why; I’m not sure if it was the actual character and her doings or the voice of the narrator not really feeling like the best pick (I listened to this as an audiobook)- the character sorta felt like she lacked a backbone or conviction at times or something, maybe that was by design. Fair warning for those who listen to this audiobook - the accents are a little rough (somewhat understandable though because of the ones that were done but still) so sit tight.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I’m not sure if I necessarily liked this book as it was written but I liked the storyline but at the same time it had too much in it. As far as thrillers are concerned this book had obvious twists and I felt more like an impartial witness to the story rather than the character. Maybe if we knew more about our main character as a person it would have streamed easier. Part of me wanted to scrap the bachelorette party and just stick to the storyline of the neighbor’s farmhouse. That could have made an excellent thriller.
But the book was well read, narration was smooth and I stayed engaged throughout the book. It’s an easy enough read/listen that will entertain as long as you don’t have incredibly high standards.
Honestly I was disappointed by this book. It did contain the momentum that most thrillers have. With that being said it did contain a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming but I don’t think it was enough to save the book in my opinion.
The Bachelorette Party was a fun read for me! About halfway through, when I started to get confused about what was happening, it all clicked for me and I rather enjoyed where the story went.
Alex has some amazing friends. Friends who know her and what she loves, to the point where they rent a secluded cabin in the woods for her Bachelorette party. As events unravel in the present, the reader is provided with glimpses to past events that orient the reader in the plot. At times, it adds to the confusion of what is going on but then it helps you understand where the story is at and going.
I listened to the audiobook and I think the narrator did a great job with Alex's character. Some of the accents for other characters, though slightly off, were passable and did not take away from the narration or story for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for the access to this mystery/thriller!
