I was very much intrigued at the start of this book(I did do the audiobook). A little ways into it I started to find the timeline of the story difficult to follow. I’m sure if I had followed along with it physically I wouldn’t have been as frustrated. The time hops normally are fine but there was also moments that were like chatting going on of messages added in. Overall it made the audiobook more of a frustrating experience. The ending I did not expect for it to be twisty so I’m glad I finished it.

Alex is a 26 year old true crime intern. She is engaged and her close friends are taking her away for a bachelorette weekend. What is suppose to be a fun getaway quickly turns dark and scary.
I thought the premise was different and had hoped to be fully engaged and entertained with this audiobook. Unfortunately for me, this story fell flat. The chapters were short which added to the suspense, but there was too much going on and the flow was disjointed. I found myself going back and forth quite a bit. The cast of characters were not at all likable or very well developed. The ending left me underwhelmed. I think I would have enjoyed the physical book more.
Since I’m a new audio listener, I can’t really comment on the narrator. I did have to listen to this at a faster pace.
Thanks to NetGalley and Highbridge Audio for this gifted audio. This is my honest opinion.
Alex’s friends plan a killer bachelorette party at the infamous hunting lodge where the 666 killer stabbed a victim. Alex wakes up to blood and her friends missing. She thinks she has brought danger to both herself and her best friends. Alex is going to use her true crime knowledge to find what happened and save her friends.
There are flashbacks to before the bachelorette party, which helped keep the suspense high. There were several plot points in the book that felt far fetched. The twist left me wanting more, but I was still on the edge of my seat while listening.
Thank you to Sandra Block, HighBridge Audio, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was good! It was really solid. I liked following our main character and the dual timeline. The ending did seem a little too unbelievable for me. I’m not sure I would’ve had the same thought process as the main character but other than that it was fun and the definition of a popcorn thriller.
I listened to this audiobook within 48 hours of starting it! It has a slower start to help with the back story but once it picks up it has you in an absolute chokehold. It was not a plot line I’ve ever seen before which made it very unique in this genre. It was well written and keeps your attention until the very end when you realize the final plot twist! I had so many theories but never even considered what actually happened! It was a real shock at the end! I’ll definitely be looking out for more books by Sandra Block after listening to this one!
The Bachelorette Party is about Alex. She is engaged and has the job of her dreams. For her bachelorette party, her friends take her to the house where a serial killer once killed his victim. She wakes up to find her friends gone and blood everywhere. She fears it’s the murder that happened years ago that is haunting them now. Alex fears her recent interview with the 666 murderer for her job got them into trouble. The murderer she interviewed has always maintained his innocence though. Is he really the killer or is the killer still out there terrorizing her friends? Alex must put her love of true crime to the test to solve this case.
This book is told in two timelines…the past and the present. The reader gets a look into Alex’s past while also going through the worst bachelorette party ever with her.
Let’s start with the friends….I understand Alex’s love of true crime, because I also love true crime. But, to have her friends book a night in the home of a serial killer where he committed a murder for her bachelorette party is crazy. Alex needs new friends.
Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you enjoy thrillers, serial killers, or true crime, you would like this book. I was captivated pretty early on with the book.
I received this book from Netgalley and HighBridge Audio in exchange for a review. This has not influenced my review at all. Thank you Netgalley and HighBridge Audio!
3.25 stars. The Bachelorette Party was a quick and easy mystery thriller with several twists and turns. Throughout the story we follow dual timelines of a crime reporter obsessed with the 666 serial killer before and during her bachelorette party. While I enjoyed the general plot and didn't mind the dual timelines, I ended the story feeling a little unsatisfied. While there was nothing wrong with the characters, the writing, or the plot itself, I didn't really have any jaw dropping shocking moments I expect from a mystery thriller.
There are several plot lines we follow throughout the story: figuring out if Eric Myers is the real 666 killer, who is stalking and sending Alex death threats/letters/flowers, and what the heck is happening during what is supposed to be a fun bachelorette getaway. For starters, the bachelorette party prank was sadly very predictable. As soon as she woke up in the bathroom I already had a feeling where the story was going and how she ever forgave her friends after that BLOWS MY MIND. On the other hand, figuring out the real identity of the 666 killer was a good twist and definitely surprised me. And the stalker.... that one bugs me the most because yes, we found out who it was but nothing came of it! I want closure! GIVE ME MORE!
I enjoyed the narrator for the audiobook a lot outside of her horrific Australian accent... Please, next time just skip it.
All in all, not a bad book. It was a super quick listen and definitely entertaining!
Overall it was a easy & fast read. I liked the plot twist but was a little predictable. The narrator was okay it missed a little more emotion/expression at the end after the plot twist.
It is a really fast paced thriller. But I didn't really enjoy it. Their was so much thinks that didn't make sens to me end the ending is a big NO, I'm sorry... The narrator did a good job tho, she made it easy to understand what was going on.
I would say that this started off as more of an average 3-star read but by the end, I gave it 2 stars. I spent all of that time waiting for the story to wrap up and absolutely hated the ending.
This book was an easy read but it didn’t have anything that kept me on the edge of my seat. There was one big twist that was pretty good but other than that nothing exciting. The ending was also pretty predictable.

I read this as a book and I was blown away. It was so weird! I love the protagonist so much! Naturally I wanted to experience this as an audiobook.
The narration is perfect! That ending is so much!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!!
I really enjoyed this book. More than I thought I would. I liked the characters! Great writing style and I liked the storyline. This book kept me guessing. I finished it in one sitting.

The Bachelorette Party by Sandra Block
Rating: 3.5/5
A super fast-paced thriller! I enjoyed that this had a podcast/ true crime twist with it. I felt engaged the entire time, unsure of what was going to happen next. I felt like there were a lot of unreliable characters and that made it even more twisty and fun. However, the end fell flat for me. There were some weird holes in the plot that didn’t make sense and were slightly frustrating that just put a sour taste in my mouth which brought this down to a 3.5 instead of 4. Overall, I think it could be a fun winter read!
❓QOTD: if you had a bachelorette party where did you go? Or where would you want to go?
I really wanted to like this book but there was something in the way this story was written that was just off for me. And the ending fell apart so horribly I just couldn't enjoy the book even if I wanted to. I also did not like Alex. She seemed to assume too many things for being an "investigative journalist" and you know what they say about assuming....The audio narration did not help the storyline either. This was just a 2 star read for me.
The Bachelorette Party by Sandra Block is a suspenseful thriller that has had me hooked from the start. I listened to this over the course of a few days! We follow Alex and her two best friends for a weekend getaway centered around quality time and true crime.
Typically I listen to full cast narration audiobooks, but Lexi May did well differentiating between characters. The timeline goes back and forth from past to present and there are also sections with text messages and podcast episodes as well.
I can usually sniff out a plot pretty quickly and do not get surprised by the twists and turns. I can truly say that Block kept me guessing up until the very last chapter! I did not see the ending coming at all.
Thank you, Sandra Block and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook!
Thank you so much to HighBridge Audio & NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early!
This book is a masterpiece in suspense! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! The plot twist was so unexpected that I had to rewind it! This book is one of one. and I highly recommend reading this book for all thrill junkies.
The Bachelorette Party, by Sandra Block, narrated by Lexi Mae, is an entertaining novel that will appeal to fans of true crime documentaries/podcasts/etc. It was my first novel by Sandra Block and although it was a little uneven in terms of pacing and overall believability, I did enjoy it. The narrator was mostly great except for her Aussie accent when voicing Alex's fiancé. Four stars!
Has anything ever been more a waste of my time? Spoilers below.
So much of this is so, SO boring, but worse than that, it makes absolutely no sense. Why would you ever let yourself be taken on a mysterious bachelorette party trip where you don't know the location when you're being actively threatened by a killer? If my friends did this to me, I would literally never speak to them ever again, their actions are absolutely psychotic. And even then, this book absolutely refuses to let there be consequences for the actions of the characters. Absolutely infuriating in every respect.
Thanks to NetGalley and Scarlet Publishing for the advanced reader copy.
I can see how this book has mixed reviews. While the premise is interesting--a young woman obsessed with true crime and being a journalist has to unravel the possible death of her friends while stuck in a remote cabin during a blizzard--the logistical details that are required to believe in order for this book to work required too much of a suspension of disbelief to go on this narrative ride.
