Joining a support group for serial killers hoping to find your sister’s killer and avenge her murder… what could go wrong?… to sum it up - a lot! It seemed a bit unrealistic - yet, it could totally happen

When I read the synopsis for this book, I was intrigued. What goes on in the minds of serial killers? Do they meet up? This book put some good answers to my questions. Yes I know it’s just a book, but it could be a real life thing too. You never know. This one kept me guessing and ended up making me mad in the end because everyone always wants the happy ever after. Would highly recommend! Thanks to NetGalley, Saratoga Schaefer and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC

I wanted to like it as much as I wanted to, but of course, we can't have it all.
Synopsis

Commentaries
The premise is interesting, it's why I requested it. Execution is OK, I quite like the way Schaefer inserted the serial killers pov one by one after few chapters. It's not gory (enough) and my favorite serial killer chapter would belong to the trucker. But I couldn't stand Cyra. Cyra's wishy-washy characteristic is her downfal and thus, hinder me from liking the book more.
Overall a good book tho.

The premise of this book was promising but I don’t think it lived up to the hype. I found myself bored as I was reading it and didn’t really care where the story ended up.

Serial Killer Support Group has an intriguing premise: after her sister’s murder, Cyra infiltrates a secret meetup of serial killers in New York City, determined to uncover and take down the culprit. The concept alone had me hooked, but I struggled with the execution.
Cyra is a frustrating protagonist, and many of the supporting characters feel flat, lacking depth beyond their roles in the story. The prose also leans heavily on telling rather than showing, which made certain sections feel underdeveloped. That said, there are moments of real intensity, and I appreciated the format—with chapters sprinkled in offering deeper insights into various group members.
One of the book’s biggest strengths is its ending. As someone who reads a lot of thrillers, I often find twists to be too predictable, but this one genuinely caught me off guard. The author avoided the all-too-common pitfall of making the clues too obvious, which kept the reveal satisfying.
Overall, while the execution didn’t fully live up to the premise for me, the unique structure and unexpected ending made it a worthwhile read.

This book left me feeling a bit disappointed. Cyra was the only semi-interesting character in the book, and the plot itself was pretty slow so I found myself struggling to get through it. By the time we got to the twist all I could think of was “that’s it?”
Overall it had a really interesting idea, but it just missed the mark for me.

Oh man this book was one I was so excited to read and was just such a disappointment. I did not enjoy all the nicknames and was just not exciting to read.

Thanks to NetGalley, publishers and author for an ARC of Serial Killer Support Group.
I struggled with this book, it felt like a bit of a challenge to read it. However there was just enough intrigue to keep pushing through and get the full story.

Serial Killer Support Group has a little of everything, you’re bound to find something you like. Grief, friendship, sisterhood, revenge, romance, murder. My absolute favorite part of this book were the character chapters. I loved getting insight into all of the characters at play. Although I had my suspicions about certain characters that turned out to be correct, there was so much unexpected that kept me engaged throughout the whole thing. Our main gal Cyra was complicated and complex in a completely mesmerizing way. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this author….i may even sense a sequel?? If not, I still loved the ending.

Cyra’s sister was brutally murdered by a serial killer. The police investigation is going nowhere and Cyra is tired of waiting for justice.
So she comes up with a plan. She has heard about a secret serial killer support group and she is determined to join, no matter the cost.
In this group, serial killers meet to discuss their addiction to murder. If she can join, she can try to find her sister's killer.
Seems like an easy task but being in a room full of serial killers does not seem neither smart nor safe.
As Cyra continues her investigation, things will take a very dark turn but she will not stop until the truth comes out.
This book offers a unique premise and a very interesting main character. She is human, she is flawed and sometimes unlikeable.
Now, this is a work of fiction so you might have to rely on suspension of disbelief but as a true crime enthusiast, I had a lot of fun reading this one.
The pacing could have been a bit better but overall I enjoyed the different stories and the quite disturbing ending.
It is a mystery thriller with several twists and turns and that talks about disturbing and macabre MO since we are introduced to several serial killers.

The idea of a final girl alliance is becoming quite popular amongst books these days. I think these types of books can be a hit or miss, depending on the context, and I don’t know if this was a hit for me.

Oh man this one was quite a miss for me. These characters were pretty rough, dumb, and unlikable. All except Cyra were super flat and boring

Had a lot of fun with this one. Serial killer books always deliver. A woman infiltrates a support group for victims of serial killers. Great premise!

Serial Killer Support Group is a quirky, darkly humorous thriller that intrigued me with its offbeat premise and tongue-in-cheek approach. When Cyra’s sister Myra is murdered, and the cops can only label her a victim of a local serial killer, Cyra dives headfirst into the bizarre world of a serial killer support group—no matter how questionable her methods may be. The concept is delightfully absurd, with every member sporting ridiculous names like Sand Fly, Cuckoo, and even Mistletoe (yes, really!). While the story has its moments of genuine suspense and clever twists, it occasionally veers into over-the-top territory, leaving a few plot points feeling a bit contrived. Still, Cyra’s cool, determined demeanor keeps you hooked as she navigates a maze of dubious alliances and unexpected murders. Overall, this book is a fun, inventive ride.

Serial Killer Support Group by Saratoga Schaeffer, Cyra’s sister Myra was recently murdered and the cops don’t seem like they’re making any headway on the case. The only thing they can tell her is they believe her sister was the victim of a local serial killer. so when her good friend Eli tells her about a serial killer support group she will do what she has to, to get in. no matter how questionable. Once she gets in she dawns a disguise and infiltrate the group trying to determine which one killed her sister. everyone in the group gets a ridiculous name such a sand fly, cuckoo, mockingbird and there’s others but hers is a super awesome name mistletoe, (i’m totally being sarcastic.) it isn’t long before members of the group start being murdered and the only problem unemotional Cyra has is she doesn’t know if the deceased men were the one who killed her sister. She also gets involved against her better judgment with another group member who says he knows the other members names.. Cyra puts herself in very questionable situations. Will it all be worth it is the murderer of her sister a serial killer or is she looking at the wrong support group? I really thought I would love this book when it comes to campy books like this I’m good at suspending belief and going along for the ride but this book was sadly ridiculous. There were many things about the narrative her personality the other serial killers I just found to be out the box. Not to mention I really would love to know where the author learned about serial killers from and don’t even get me started on the names of the group members. as soon as I heard her group name the first thing I thought is she must be writing this in December because who even thinks about mistletoe the rest of the year. I wish it would’ve been better somebody may like the book I sadly did not.#NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyReview, #SaratogaSchaffer, #SerialKillerSupportGroup,

had so much fun with this one! it felt like something new and different and I really enjoyed reading from Cyra's perspective. I loved the writing and the direction it went in. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author!

2 stars for me- it was predictable and at times felt like it drug on. Read the title and you know what yo expect. Wasn’t for me- but may be a hit for you! I recommend reading and making your own determinations.

This book made me paranoid. If I see someone sitting on a bench, now my first thought is "are they watching me?". The plot was suspenseful and had me holding my breath. The fact that our main character, Cyra, willingly infiltrates a group of serial killers is beyond me. The need for finding justice for her sister really drives her decisions. While this plot may not be realistic, I still really enjoyed it and found myself engrossed in the pages. The ending definitely takes an interesting turn that I did not expect. This is one of those books that will stick with me for awhile to come.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I had really high hopes for this book based on the title. I love a good book about serial killers and I thought this might be a tongue-in-cheek book like Final Girl Support Group, or fun and sexy like Butcher and Blackbird, or just straight up thrilling like A Flicker In The Dark. What I got instead made no sense at all...
The premise of this book is so wild and over the top and the execution doesn't help. If you can swallow the idea of an actual on the nose Serial Killer Support Group, the idea that it was super easy for a random person off the street- albeit a not very nice person, but I'll get to that in a bit- to find them out, slide into their DMs and then get accepted into their crew- made the rest of the book really difficult to read.
While I was intrigued by Mira's murder and finding out who was behind it, Cyra was a really hard person to like and I have difficulty when I cannot like the main character leading a book. Yes there were twists I didn't see coming but it was hard not to override the good parts with the really not so good parts. Overall, this was a miss for me,

An interesting and enjoyable read. I think the idea is very interesting and original. It definitely fell a bit flat but I still really enjoyed the book overall.
