Absolutely love the premise of this book. It took me a little while to get into the story and the writing style. An interesting story with an intriguing group of characters. A pretty good read.
This was a pretty good book. I wish there were more scenes that depicted the group but I overall really enjoyed the story. Cyra was a badass character. She kicked butt!
I liked it but didn’t love it. I can’t help but compare it to Assasins Anonymous, which was a better story and premise, also released in 2024. Cyra plans to infiltrate a Serial Killer Support Group, they aren’t trying to stop killing but are supporting each other in their murder. They use code names and she soon has a partner to help her determine who killed her sister Mira. He knows there is a snitch in the group and needs her help to find out who. So, who is the snitch and who is Mira’s killer?
Received this book as a ARC reviewer from NetGalley. The premise of this book is quite unique and I can honestly say I have never seen a book like this! As a true crime girlie, this book drew my attention straight away. This book follows Cyra whose sister Mira was murdered and she infiltrates The Serial Killer Support Group to try and find her killer. I did not expect the plot twist whatsoever, but the second plot twist felt predictable once the first was revealed. The only reason this book fell down in a star for me was purely due to the second plot twist. If you are a true crime girlie then you will love this book. It will be released in March next year!
I love when we get the POV of the morally grey, slightly(mostly) deranged characters. We follow the main character that has infiltrated a group of serial killers with the intent of revenge. Let me say, the serial killers in the book were completely terrifying and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I only wish I waited to read this during Halloween because, whoa I got chills. The ending was insane and rearranged my brain chemistry.
Thank you for this juicy arc opportunity! Out of my normal realm of reading this one was a mystery/thriller that I absolutely devoured! After her sister's murder Cyra goes on a hunt for the killer, hoping to masquerade herself enough to blend in with the horrors she may discover. Turns out that mask slips on easier than she ever believed and will lead her to do dangerous and terrifying things that will push past her previously established "good girl" persona in the pursuit of justice for her sister. I devoured this story and felt so seen when she talks about masking emotions and becoming someone else to get through the day. Truly powerful writing
I enjoyed the writing and the development of the characters. The setting was immersive and I found myself very invested in solving the mystery.
Such a fun and unique story! We always get stories from the POV of the victim, but rarely do we get to see the other side: the killers. While Cyra was a highly unlikeable character (I feel like that may have been the point), I enjoyed watching her infiltrate the group of serial killers and witnessing her evolution into "Mistletoe". The serial killer povs sprinkled in were a great comparison as Cyra got deeper and deeper into the group and her thirst for revenge.
This is a dark and gritty story that takes you on a whirlwind ride as the main character comes to terms with exactly how far she is willing to go for revenge. Cyra is my opinion in a very morally grey character but I still found myself rooting for her even when her actions shocked me. Each serial killer is well fleshed-out and had my skin crawling whenever they were on the page. The ending was a satisfying jaw dropper!
It's been just over a month since Cyra's younger sister Mira was murdered while out for a run early one morning. Detectives have only one lead, that Miras murder is possibly linked to a serial killer. Fed up of trying to get answers from law enforcement, Cyra decides to take matters into her own hands and start her own investigating. With the help of an inside source and the dark web, she infiltrates herself into a serial killer support group, pretending to be a serial killer herself to hopefully find her sisters killer and get revenge.
A serial killer support group! The title alone had me intrigued, I loved the premise, it was unique and interesting, but I think the execution of this book just felt a little flat. Now, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, but it lacked the suspense and tension you'd expect from a book about a serial killer group. I wanted to read more about Cyra within the group and her trials to convince them that she was a serial killer herself.
If you're a fan of dark, and witty books like My sister, the serial killer, you'll enjoy this book.
Thanks to @netgalley and @crookedlanebooks for this ARC. Serial killer support group will be out on 18th March 2025.
I was intrigues with the concept of the book and I had to read more about it. A lot of effort was put into the control of the story to the extent that it had a lot of shocks and surprises that I would not have envisaged. WOW! This is insane, the climax was rather unpredictable, I did not foresee it at all. It is great, of course, when a new author is discovered who knows how to tell a completely different and interesting story. I highly recommend this book!
Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
This is an incredibly smart book. The moment you think- ahaan! I have figured it out, it stumps you. It is very disturbing and very gory- definitely not for the faint hearted.
But I LOVED IT! You can't help but love and hate the characters at the same time. The story follows Cyra, a woman whose sister is murdered allegedly by a serial Killer. Disappointed in the police and to avenge her sister, she plans to infiltrate a mystical Serial Killer Support Group, and find the one responsible.
The story mainly follows Cyra but there are interspersed chapters with POVs of each of the serial killers in the group. The pace is pretty slow which can lead to your attention dwindling in the middle. The end however makes up for it! The ending is satisfactory and ties up all the loose ends.
A pretty fine slasher thriller novel!
Thank you Crooked Lane Books for providing this ARC for free via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
With spooky season upon us, I had to request a copy of Saratoga Schaefer’s debut novel.
I was instantly hooked by the plot. The MC joins a support group for serial killers in search of the person who killed her sister. She has to pretend to be a killer herself and it’s a RIDE.
The pacing was great. I love that it got straight into the story and we met the support group within a few chapters. I also enjoyed the chapters we got from the serial killers’ perspectives.
There were several twists, but the one at the very end had my jaw on the floor.
If you like dark and twisty, this book is for you.
Cyra's sister has been murdered by a serial killer, and Cyra is not going to accept that. Instead of waiting for the police investigation, which seems to be going nowhere, she takes matters into her own hands and goes in search of the perpetrator. Through a friend, she hears about a so-called support group for serial killers. Convinced that she can find and avenge her sister's murderer there, Cyra pretends to be a serial killer and infiltrates the group. But the men in this group are not the only obstacle in the quest for revenge, and Cyra's alter ego suits her better than she thought...
Saratoga Schaefer has written a dark but entertaining thriller that goes off the rails. I thought the idea of a support group for serial killers was clever and I enjoyed this easy-to-read book.

The book follows Cyra whose sister gets murdered by what appears to be a serial killer. Cyra does what anyone would do and joins a secret support group for serial killers to find out which one of them killed her sister. She’s out for revenge and will do anything to get it.
I don’t know what I feel about this book. It was pretty mediocre but at the same time pretty interesting. I do really like that the chapters were short and it was also really interesting the chapters in the others POV. What I didn’t like is how crazy Cyra is about her sister. Maybe it’s because I’m an only child but damn. This went far beyond a normal reaction after a death.
I’m happy to say that I did not guess the ending but it was fairly easy to know who did it at the end. A bit disappointed that the reveal was done so far towards the end without a lot of breadcrumbs for us readers. Or maybe there were a lot of breadcrumbs and I’m just dumb. Who knows.
This book was a unique thriller that was darkly entertaining. It was different from what I expected, but it was exactly as the title said. I found my self enthralled in the characters, especially Cyra. The author did a great job writing in a deeply disturbing mindset that at time was hard to read, but it was worth it in the end. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love darker thrillers.
When Cyra's little sister is murdered, she gets wind that it was done by a possible serial killer. Determined to find her sister's murderer, she infiltrates a support group for serial killers, convinced one of them is the killer. As Cyra gets deeper and deeper into their dark underworld, her grasp on what is right and wrong slowly diminishes and her "killer" alter-ego starts to take over. Will her investigation cause her to lose herself entirely before she learns the truth?
I felt this was a unique take on a serial killer book. We get glimpses into the past lives of each member of the group in between chapters. As the only woman in the group, we see how Cyra uses her gender to her advantage to get the group organizers to drop their guard. The story moves along at a good pace and we are left trying to guess who her sister's killer is. The ending was very satisfying and has me wishing for a sequel.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ a dark mystery with twists and turns, a fun whodunit from the perspective of the victim’s older sister. Great for fans of Frieda McFadden and Lisa Jewell.
All is revealed in time. An easy to follow page turner that will keep you guessing.
Thanks to @netgalley and @crookedlanebooks for the ARC. Book to be published March 18, 2025.
I have been in a bit of a reading slump the last couple weeks, but wow, this had me hooked from start to finish.
Serial Killer Support Group is just that - a tense thriller that follows Cyra as she infiltrates a support group for serial killers in a quest to find who is responsible for her sister’s murder.
There were a couple twists near the end that I didn’t see coming, and things got dark.
Overall, loved this debut.
If you enjoyed Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter or like darker thrillers, I recommend checking this out.
Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really unique look at serial killers as Cyra joins a group of them after her younger sister, Mira is killed. Hoping to infiltrate the group to discover her killer, Cyra is both terrified and shocked she gets in as any one of these men could be the killer and she could be the next victim if she's discovered. But she's smart and sassy and so determined as the police have made no headway; her drive keeps her coming back to each meeting. Vacillating in time, we see the police with no clues and we also witness Mira's relationships with friends and boyfriend. It's a creepy, dark tale but so refreshing as who would think to take matters into their own hands! It's crazy good!
