A Drop of Fortune is everything I love in a cozy fantasy read—full of heart, humor, and just the right touch of magic. Danielle Garrett has a gift for creating warm, engaging worlds that feel like a place you want to escape into. The characters are lovable, the atmosphere is charming, and the story keeps you smiling from beginning to end.
This one is pure comfort reading at its best—a 5-star gem for anyone who loves cozy fantasy, small-town magic, and a dash of whimsy.

This is maybe the second cozy fantasy that I've read, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe this isn't the genre for me. The lack of urgency in completing tasks, especially the ones that the plot was supposedly based around, had me quickly losing interest. The FMC doesn't set out trying to accomplish the central goal until about 2/3 of the way into the book, and then everything resolves itself a little too quickly and conveniently.
The characters weren't anything particularly special, and I didn't necessarily feel the romantic chemistry between the FMC and MMC. There was a lot of telling us how they feel about each other rather than showing, so it left me feeling not 100% convinced.
The magic system and worldbuilding aren't very well developed. I'm not sure if this is normal for cozy fantasy, but it felt like a lot of the magic was just convenient and only described when being used to conveniently fix a certain problem. Also there seems to be a lot of animosity towards witches... or maybe there isn't. Our witch FMC is hesitant about telling people that she's a witch because it seems like she's afraid of persecution, but 90% of the people she tells do not care. It ends up just feeling like manufactured conflict for page count.
Overall though, the writing was well done and easy to read. If future books focus on developing the magic system and worldbuilding, I think this has the potential to be an interesting series.

A cozy romantic story about a witch, with a great narrator.
I loved the cast of different characters and enjoyed the story.

A drop of fortune promises all the cozy vibes, but unfortunately, it's not the book for me. I wasn't able to finish this one because it never fully captured my interest, but I do think it will land better with those who love cozy fantasy.

Danielle Garrett always delivers a story that makes you embrace the world of imagination. A Drop of Fortune was definitely entertaining with its cast of characters. I hope to see more of these characters and their adventures.

This book was as fun as ever. The combination of Garrette's writing and Ronconi's narration kills it every time. I love returning to this magical world. A Drop of Fortune lived up to the standards set by all her previous work.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
Enjoyable read, but dragged at times. I felt like nothing happened and yet everything happened. Still good overall and the narrator did a good job.

A Drop of Fortune was everything I didn't know I needed. The narration was utterly wonderful and I had the very best time listening. I loved how diverse this book was, how cosy and comfortable with that extra little bit of magic. I loved Evelyn and her Familiar and all the Cottage Core vibes that they exuded. Loved, loved loved!!!

The narrator absolutely nailed it—every character had their own vibe, and you could feel the emotions in every scene. It made the story so much easier to get into, like you’re right there with the characters.
The pacing felt just right, and the sound quality was top-notch. No weird pauses or background noises, just smooth storytelling. If you’re on the fence about audiobooks, this one’s a solid choice to dive in. Highly recommend!

A witch on an involuntary mission to solve a mystery.
This novel felt a bit all over the place and stagnant at the same time. Initially there was quite a bit of action – which is reflected in the synopsis – but this quickly deescalated. I adore cozy fantasy novels and didn’t mind this at all, but it felt inconsistent.
It might have been the authors intention to highlight a contrast between two worlds, by having our witch escape into the coziness, but I found it all a bit confusing and underwhelming.
That being said, listening to the audiobook was relaxing.
Thank you to Dreamscape Select, Roots & Wings Press, and NetGalley for the ARC!

Such a cozy book. I enjoyed the story it was relaxing and interesting without being high stakes. It does get a bit slow for my liking in parts, but overall it was a very fun cozy fantasy.
4 stars

This was a fun story and I want to live in this town. I love how Evelyn did not want to give up; despite her less than stellar welcome. The found family at the end of this book makes me hopeful that we will meet these characters again in the future. Maybe with a series that focuses on different characters each book; just my wish. :)
Amanda Ronconi did a great job narrating this novel.
Looking forward to reading more of Danielle Garrett's work and listening to more of Amanda Ronconi audiobooks in the future.

I had such a great time reading this book! Cozy fantasy is just so enjoyable to read, and this one was no exception! I loved getting to know this world and these characters, and I had such a great time reading Evelyn's story, watching as she found a home in this town!
Evelyn is the King's Witch, she has 7 years that she has to work for him-but he's corrupt, and what he wants from her goes against her principles. So when she's offered this opportunity to fix this blight, she takes it. Which turns out to be one of the best decisions in her life.
Watching as she found her footing in this town, with a distrust for witches because they believe one cursed the land and caused the blight, yeah, that makes her investigation in solving it more complicated. But the people also need her, she's a good medic, and I loved watching her find her place!
Of course, this book is a cozy fantasy, so the stakes aren't life or death, but definitely hugely life-altering. There were still antagonists, like the attempts to make her leave town. Which made the ending all the more satisfying to read!
Loved reading this book and I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!

I really tried to push through this, but I just couldn't. It was OK. I will have to try reading this, but overall the audio was boring

This book is very slice-of-life but make it magical. It’s a great change to what I typically see in the fantasy genre. While the overarching plot of the book is not groundbreaking, the vibes are great. I know this style of book isn’t for everyone and also, I would have said it wasn’t for me before I read it but, I was wrong. I listened to the audiobook and found it to be a very cozy and comforting read/listen that is perfect for the fall. The romance felt a little bit “insta-lovey” and not much time was dedicated to getting the reader on board with the relationship, but I found that I didn’t mind it too much. If all of that is up your alley, then I would say definitely give this book a shot!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"A Drop of Fortune" by Danielle Garrett is a light, relaxing, cozy romantasy. It also has a mystery to be solved. I enjoyed this book, and it was an excellent balm following a highly stressful book.
Evelyn Rosewood is a sister witch in the Coven of Kael. She serves the King. When he commands that she brew a poison and she refuses, he threatens her life. Lady Kilgower, the King's Royal Advisor, sends her away to Shyglass, a far away port town, to save her life. Evelyn is given the mission to solve the blight on their crops, if possible.
Evelyn has a familiar, a small owl named Archie. He is the comic relief. They get to the city and start to meet the rest of the cast, some friend and some foe. Evelyn is a potions healer primarily, so she starts doing this for needy townspeople. Eventually, a romance starts.

Amanda Ronconi is the excellent narrator for this audibook, which runs 10 hrs 5 min.
This book is like a Snickerdoodle cookie. It's light and sweet. Recommended for fans of romantasy.
Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, and Danielle Garrett for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was cute and I enjoyed it but I felt like it was way too long for this type of story. I felt like there was a whole lot of nothing happening at times and would lose interest for awhile. I think the majority of the middle could have been cut out and even ended sooner and it would have been a more powerful story (I mean, it is cute!). Would still recommend it for those who like a slow paced, cozy fantasies but if you need action or faced pacing this is probably not for you!

This book was my first in the cozy fantasy genre, and I found it to be an enjoyable and charming read. The story is light and heartwarming, perfect for when you're in the mood for something relaxing and comforting without high-stakes drama. The characters are endearing, and the found family dynamic adds a sense of connection and warmth to the narrative.
One of the highlights was the cozy, small-town atmosphere that the author vividly brought to life. I loved the detailed descriptions of the harbour town setting and day-to-day life.
However, the low stakes left me feeling disengaged in various sections of the book. While the characters were cute and the relationships sweet, I would have liked to have seen a bit more tension or mystery. The lack of any real conflict or plot twists made certain sections feel a little slow, and by the time I reached the end, I was left wanting more resolution or depth. The conclusion, while fitting for the tone of the book, didn’t leave me fully satisfied.
If you’re a fan of cozy fantasy and enjoy books centred around themes of friendship, found family, and everyday life with minimal conflict, I would recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me access to the audiobook ARC.
What a lovely book. If you’re looking for a cozy fantasy with found family, enough of a plot to keep you entertained, and low stakes, this book will satisfy all of those desires. Evelyn is a witch forced into service for the king. When she is sent away from the castle to break a curse on farmland, she finds a new home among the quirky residents… and maybe even love.
This book contains brief fade to black content, but no explicit spice. It’s a great read for ages 13+ (with parent permission) through adulthood. Though this is said far too often, I really would compare this book to Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldtree and to its fan base. Much of the book follows the daily life of Evelyn settling into a new village and meeting its residents. If you’re looking for a really distinct main character with a strong voice, Evelyn falls a bit flat, while remaining likable and interesting enough.
Overall, this book was enjoyable, though perhaps not an all-time favorite. It was a solid 3.5 stars—cozy, autumnal, and relaxing, but not especially memorable.

If you're looking for a cozy fantasy with witches and fairies and curses and portions, this may be for you. I was in the mood, but this book didn't pack enough punch and at one point I did some digging because I suspected it was YA, the plot felt so juvenile. If you edited it a bit, it could've been a kids' chapter book. In my mind, as I read it, I pictured the entire thing as a cartoon, strangely. I couldn't get my brain to make it live action.
Regardless, it was cute. It's more potions than magic, and the fairies are mentioned but do not appear on page. It's a lot of dialog with characters I didn't find that memorable or compelling, and the romance is sweet but predictable. I think this definitely has an audience for fans of Legends & Lattes or Drinks & Sinkholes.
