This was such a great cozy fantasy. It was low stakes but still entertaining. It had a great mystery and sweet romance. I loved the cozy town and I can't wait to see who we will follow in the next novel. I enjoyed this so much that I'm now plan on what book I want to read next in Danielle's backlist!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
⭐⭐☆☆☆
Although A Drop of Fortune by Danielle Garrett had a cool concept, it didn’t quite capture my interest. Although the world-building was engaging, the story felt hurried, and the characters lacked complexity. The predictability of the plot made it difficult to stay engaged. It wasn’t bad, but I anticipated more and didn’t feel a deep connection with the characters.
Cute cozy witch story she is sent to another land to cure a blight for the kingdom in exchange of her freedom. Turns out some people don't like witches however the town needs a healer while theirs is away. Evelyn will work her way to the farmers hearts as to some thinks she is a nuisance. This story is full of found family, magic, talking owl that loves his orange marmalade. I listened to the audio, and I enjoyed the narrator's performance
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Another solid Fantasy read from NetGalley! This felt like a very cozy fantasy! It reminded me a lot of The Spellshop, very similar premise but still managed to stay unique.
The magic system was interesting to say the least. It felt like a realistic type of magic and potion making with all her brews and such. I felt for Evelyn and everything she had gone through in her past.
As usual the animals steal the show! Her familiar is an owl that is such a great addition to the story. The whole concepts of familiars was something I haven’t seen in my fantasies and I loved that addition!
The relationship in this was adorable! Their first interaction is fun and sets the tone for the rest of their relationship. And the lack of third act break-up was such a nice change!
My Rating: 4.25 ⭐️
This was such a fun, witchy, cozy low-stress story! I adored all the characters and the close knit found family of the row. The romance, though not the focus of the story, was so cute and heartwarming. That cottage!! And of course our owl familiar who always had sage advice but was easily distracted by treats 😂. It was a quick and easy listen, the narrator doing a great job with the delivery of the voices and tones.
Thanks to the author and publisher for the review copy of the audiobook!
A Drop of Fortune is the perfect cozy fantasy romance for when you want something low-stakes, easy to read and cute! Think Legends & Lattes vibes. It’s a sweet love story that’s all heart and no smut.
The romance is adorable, with just enough spark to keep you hooked but nothing too spicy—just that perfect hint of intimacy. The world-building is whimsical and charming.
If you love sweet, feel-good stories that are big on charm and low on drama, this one’s a must-read. It’s cozy, it’s fun, and it’s like sipping on your favorite cup of tea in book form!

This was a cute little witchy fantasy book with a bit of cozy mystery and cute romance. It honesty felt like the perfect cozy book to pick up on a cold autumn day and curl up with under a blanket. This was such an easy book to read and it just made me happy haha but the plot was interesting enough to keep me intrigued! I read this via the audiobook and i found it incredibly nice to listen to and I loved Amanda Ronconi's narration! So clear and pleasant. Absolute perfection.

Five Cozy Fantasy Stars
This is definitely a cozy fantasy book, very light on the romance and 'adult' can be misinterpreted. The characters ARE adults. This isn't an "adult" book on the spice scale. There is no spice.
This isn't exactly lighthearted but it isn't going to have you on the edge of your seat either. This is the perfect rainy day read for relaxing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the opportunity to read and review this story.

Unfortunately, I think my experience with this book was negatively impacted by the narration style. Amanda Ronconi has a very matter-of-fact style that didn't fit well with the cozy fantasy vibe of the book and it would've been a lot more immersive if we would've gotten some different accents for the varied cast of characters (that ranges from talking owls to orcs).
The book itself is a pure escapism, the kind of novel I like to read as a palette cleanser between heavier works. Fun but forgettable.
Evelyn and her owl familiar (easily the best part of the novel) travel to a small town to clear it of blight and are met with a mixed reception. A grumpy herb-seller doesn't like that she's stealing his customers and an orc innkeeper is prejudiced about witches, but they soon find an unexpected family and set about to break the curse.
This was absolutely PHENOMENAL! I initially requested it because I adore Amanda Ronconi as a narrator, and I devour a witchy book any day.
First, this story was so fun. If you loved Legends and Lattes, The Spellshop, or Can't Spell Treason Without Tea, this is going to be a 'must-read' for you! Evelyn is a powerful witch on a mission to end a blight in a small town, and on her journey with her owl familiar, she discovers an incredible found family and opens a powerful potions business.
This excellent story was taken to the next level with phenomenal narration. I was captivated from start to finish and can't wait to recommend this to everyone!
I've been a fan of Danielle Garrett's cozy mystery books for awhile now, having read over 30 of them last year, and I was excited to check out something new from her. She nailed the cozy fantasy vibes. With good plotting, witches, talking familiars, a curse, town drama, and romance, this book had it all. Despite having the "cozy, low stakes" vibe, this book was very entertaining and I look forward to more from this series! Thank you for the ARC.
This sounded like the perfect cozy witchy read, unfortunately it really didn't work for me. I didn't enjoy the narration and I didn't get hooked on the story. I found very bland and uneventful.
The witch Evelyn Rosewood seizes the chance to free her from her contract early by lifting a curse in the port city. In the city she sets up a potion store. Along with her judgy owl familiar Archie she tries to lift the curse.
A Drop of Fortune is a cosy fantasy filled with witches, fae, orcs and many more fantasy creatures. I enjoyed the world building. I do think I, personally, enjoy cosy fantasy more if I physically read the book (or a physical book combined with an audiobook!)
The audiobook was lovely narrated by Amanda Ronconi! I really enjoyed listening to her voice.
Overall review: 3.25 stars.
It was cute, it was cozy, it was full of witchcraft. However, the witchcraft wasn't described hardly at all. It says she's a sister of Kael (spelling?), but I have no clue what that means in comparison to the sisters of the other covens. Is there even a difference other than birth location? I'm unsure.
But this book is a quick fun read for fall! Stakes are low, tensions are low, characters that appear wholesome truly are. It's a nice breath of fresh air in comparison to most romantasy books.
I would hardly consider it an "adult" novel, though. Technically the FMC is in her 30s, but she could easily be 19 (or younger) since her age isn't a real factor. There are no open door scenes, and nothing overly complex to classify it as an adult novel instead of YA.
Overall I would recommend it to anyone looking for a breezy read to get them through a slump or into the fall season. Personally, I like a little more from my reads in the way of conflict.
A Drop of Fortune is the perfect fall cozy listen! I loved getting caught up in this audiobook! It was perfect for listening to on a long drive and while meal prepping!
Thank you so much Dreamscape Select and Netgalley for the gifted audiobook.
About the book 👇🏽
After years of conscripted service to a corrupt king, Evelyn Rosewood seizes a chance to earn her freedom. With little more than an enchanted satchel and her feathered familiar, she sets out on a quest to dispel a mysterious blight that has shrouded a once-thriving harborside town in despair.
However, upon her arrival in the bustling port city, rumors of a dark curse mingle with the salty breeze, and the town’s initial warmth gives way to suspicion.
Aided by a handsome, albeit grumpy, herb merchant, Evelyn aims to heal more than just the vast farmlands. But with time, it appears she is not the only one keeping secrets. Can her magic mend the town’s fractured past and open guarded hearts, including her own?
✨ My thoughts;
A super fast and cozy read and/or listen! I listened to this book in one sitting and found the audiobook to be entertaining. I loved the magical aspects of this story and it held my attention all the way through. I got all the cozy vibes I was looking for and my experience listening to it was great. I’d recommend this to readers that look for books that feel like a warm blanket on a cold day!
Happy reading 📖
"A Drop of Fortune" is a cosy fantasy book telling a story of Evelyn Rosewood - a young witch who's made to serve a corrupt king. She is sent on a mission through which she can finally earn her freedom after being in service for the last few years. She ends up in a small town where she needs to figure out how to get rid of the curse set on the town, but to do that she needs to blend in. And so starts Evelyn's adventure that will eventually give or cost her the freedom she's been longing.
When I read the description for the book I was HOOKED. It sounded like it would be a perfect cosy autumnal book and although I liked it in general it did fall a bit flat for me. I did get through the book rather fast, but I found myself kind of bored at times, since the stakes were a bit too low. "A Drop of Fortune" is advertised as an adult cosy romantasy, but it's a bit too simple to be that and I think it would've work better as a YA book.
However I did enjoy the cosy small town (I guess rather village) vibes and it felt like I was walking through a video game land listening to this book. I liked Evelyn as the main character and her familiar Archie was a fun side character. It was a really easy read and it definitely helped me to get more into the cosy autumnal mood. My final score is 3 stars and I'd reccommend it to anyone who enjoys low stake cosy romantasy books.
What to expect? cosy fantasy with witches and other magical creatures, extremely low stakes, small town vibes, no spice, found family
Tis the season for cozy witchy reads and this is a perfect read if that is what you are looking for. A book with fairly welcoming neighbors, a mystery to solve, and a cute herb merchant? Yes, please! Someone point me in the right direction and I will pack up and move my pups along too.
Evelyn Rosewood refuses to go against her own beliefs and create a poison for the king. Instead, she takes the opportunity to travel to a small harborside town which has been cursed and try to fix the blight on the land. Though some people in the village are wary, she finds a group of people she is able to bond with and the cozy vibes of friendship, cute romance, and magic, radiate through the pages.
The action isn't too hard hitting. There aren't swords and knights. However, there are relationship issues to work through and personal demons to face as well as discrimination and biases against witchy-ness. I picked this book up because it was recommended for fans of Emily Wilde and Legends and Lattes and I think that is spot on for the audience it will resonate with.
Please give it a chance and I do not think it will steer you wrong!
Thank you NetGalley and Roots & Wings Press as well as the author! I hope to pick up more from her in the future. The world she created was lovely.
I almost think this book would have been better as a children’s chapter book or YA book. This book reminded me of Ella Enchanted. It had a great concept of a witch (Evelyn) being sent to a land that was cursed to see if she can save it, but I was really bored for majority of the book. It had some good characters – loved Archie the owl familiar and some of Evelyn’s neighbors. If you simply took out the love story with the herb merchant, it could have been a children’s chapter book.
The whole reason Evelyn went on this mission was so that she could be freed from her contract at the castle with a corrupt king. She is a royal witch representative of the one of the realm’s four covens. But I simply didn’t feel the urgency of wanting to be freed of this seven-year contract. She didn’t have that much time there left. She had other friend witches with the four covens. It may sound strange, but I wanted her life to be worse at the castle so I could feel her strong desire to be freed.
The mystery of the curse and town’s secrets just weren’t that exciting. Danielle Garrett tried to have twists and surprises, but they just fell flat for me. Maybe it was the narrator that made my mind wonder too much during the book? Maybe the cozy mystery vibe is not my cup of tea.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for providing me with the advanced readers copy of the audiobook.
