I couldn't put this book down . The story starts with a woman discovering her husband’s affair with her best friend at her wedding, which hooked me immediately. Then she takes her honeymoon alone on the beautiful island of Crete, and I found myself rooting for her. Although some plot points felt a bit far-fetched, I couldn’t stop turning the pages, even if I was disappointed by how often Kelly gave in to Ryan. Overall, I enjoyed the ending!

I read this as a palette cleanser of sorts and this fit well in that niche. This book follows a common trope of the marriage that falls apart almost immediately for whatever reason. This book started out fairly strong, however quickly plopped for me. I really do not care for books that are based on people that let others walk all over them and run away. There was so much of this book that was completely just not plausible in any way, shape, or form if you were sharing your life with someone. The fact that the main character was ready to move on within seconds was nuts as well. This book ended up feeling very formulaic and forced. I would be interested to see what else this author writes. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

Read. Reflect. Review.

Thank you NetGallary for an early review copy of The Honeymoon!

Gemma Rogers’ The Honeymoon promises a gripping, high-stakes thriller set against the backdrop of newlywed bliss gone wrong — a concept with loads of potential. And while it had a few tense moments and flashes of intrigue, the overall execution fell a bit flat for me.

The plot starts strong, but quickly settles into familiar territory without offering much in the way of surprises. I found myself anticipating the twists before they landed, and the pacing never quite reached that heart-racing level I expect from a thriller. The characters, too, felt somewhat underdeveloped, making it hard to really connect or invest in the outcome.

That said, it wasn’t a bad read — just not a standout. It’s the kind of book you might pick up for a quick escape without expecting too much depth or originality. A decent one-sitting read, especially if you’re in the mood for something light in the thriller category.

I gave this book 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

When newlywed Kelly finds her husband in a compromising clinch with his best friend’s wife she is distraught and abandons her wedding reception and leaves for her honeymoon, alone. With her marriage over before it’s begun, Kelly decides to use the honeymoon to decide what to do next but is horrified when her cheating husband arrives along with two other surprise guests.

This is definitely one of those stories which is better off read in one sitting or at least within a few days because once started you can’t stop but wonder what on earth is going to happen next to Kelly. Even her idyllic honeymoon retreat is filled with one crisis after another, it was hard to imagine how so much misfortune could befall someone in the space of just a few days. Cleverly written, with twists and turns galore The Honeymoon is really a story of two halves, one of the honeymoon period in Crete and the other when Kelly and her cheating husband, Ryan, arrive back home, that’s when the story takes a decidedly sinister turn which had me on the edge of my seat.

The Honeymoon is fast paced domestic thriller which kept me entertained from start to finish.

If you’re in the mood for a psychological thriller with twists you won’t see coming, The Honeymoon is a must-read! Gemma Rogers has crafted a suspense-filled journey that kept me hooked from the very first page.

The story kicks off with a gut-wrenching betrayal: on her wedding day, the protagonist discovers her husband, Ryan, in a compromising position with his best friend’s wife, Liza. Reeling from the shock, she flees the wedding and heads off on a solo honeymoon to Cretan Island, hoping to find some peace and clarity. But what follows is anything but peaceful. Her husband shows up on the island, denying everything, and the story spirals into a whirlwind of secrets, lies, and unsettling revelations.

Rogers' pacing is impeccable—the tension is high, and the stakes keep rising. Every chapter kept me guessing, with unexpected twists that left me on the edge of my seat. The suspense is relentless, and you’ll find yourself staying up late to find out what happens next.

This book is perfect for fans of Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell—if you love a fast-paced, emotional thriller with plenty of drama and shocking secrets, The Honeymoon is your next binge!

Oh my .... what a story. I was hooked from the beginning, from page one this had so many twists and turns! A tale of adultery, marriage and friendships that goes sour, The brides perfect wedding day quickly turns to horror when she finds her husband, with another woman just after the ceremony. Heartbroken and unsure what to do next, Kelly decides to take their planned honeymoon trip alone. But then her calm is broken when her husband turns up there and denies cheating, and reveals some surprising secrets. As she tries to enjoy her time there, more troubling truths about her husband begin to emerge, leaving Kelly unsure who she can really trust. Definitely a must read.

The Honeymoon by Gemma Rogers is a compelling tale that kept me fully engaged throughout.

Kelly has caught her husband Ryan in a compromising position with her best friend on their wedding day, and so makes the bold decision to flee to their honeymoon in Crete solo. Kelly thinks that she has suffered the ultimate betrayal, but it seems that Ryan has many more secrets that will be exposed, each more dark and disturbing than the last.

I was fully invested in Kelly's ordeal, and although I did find a few of her decisions incomprehensible, I do believe that she is a mostly sympathetic protagonist, making this a completely bingeable and enjoyable read. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.

After finding her new husband in a compromising position with another woman, Kelly flees to her honeymoon in Crete, alone, without Ryan. Kelly is enjoying her cheating-husband free vacation, even unexpectedly meets an honest, attractive man, until Ryan shows up. The plot suddenly thickens and Kelly is in for a whole lot of surprises! TWISTY, surprising and kept my eyes glued to the pages! LOVED!

I had quite a few issues with this book, number one being that it did not feel like a psychological thriller at all, it is difficult to explain without giving too many details away but essentially there is a crime aspect involved in the second half of the book, but defiantly wouldn’t call it a psychological thriller. The first few chapters of the book, I thought the author was setting the stage for a good, twisty, murderous, revenge type plot however none of that happened. Many times I was rolling my eyes at the main character just by how passive and submissive she was. I mean continuing on a honeymoon after the groom and best friend of the bride are caught cheating and they show up and join you, proceed to gaslight you and the main character just endures and joins in on honeymoon outings? I know we have naïve characters but this was just too much for me and took an immediate dislike to our FMC, her cheating husband and don’t even get me started on her best friend. The book became tiresome as it went on and the last half of the book just did not grasp me.

2 stars. Dnf. Started out strong but I dnf'd around 40%. Didn't like any of the characters, kept waiting for the "thriller" part to begin, and quit when I realized I didn't care what happened to Kelly or anyone else, not even enough to look up spoilers. I've read books by this author I enjoyed, this just wasn't the one for me.

Kept me turning the pages. Kelly married her highschool sweetheart Ryan of ten years. But at their wedding reception she gets a full on shot of what her husband is up to. She can't believe it! She ends up leaving on her honeymoon all alone without anyone knowing. Things start to go wrong once she finds out Ryan is on his way to Crete. Turns out he's not alone and things start happening to make Kelly question her safety. Things start going downhill from there when they rush home due to an emergency. From there it just gets worse. Trying to not give any spoilers sorry. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

I just can’t say a bad word about this book. After all when you catch your husband misbehaving with someone in your wedding day there isn’t much you can say really is there. Well written and now recommended to all my friends.

The Honeymoon by Gemma Rogers is a sharp, emotional, and suspenseful story that delves into the complexity of betrayal and self-discovery. The protagonist’s idyllic wedding day quickly shatters when she discovers her husband, Ryan, in a compromising situation with his best friend’s wife, Liza. Overcome with shock and heartbreak, she flees the scene, desperate for space and clarity.

This one had me on the edge of my seat. When a newlywed is caught cheating on his wife with his best friends wife, it is just the surface of a deep pool of lies. In debt, in danger and facing divorce, is this the worst honeymoon ever recorded? A great read.
