Thank you to netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy to review.

This is another incredible book in the Morgan Brookes series. I really love Helen Phifers writing and the entire series is very reminiscent of Angela Marsons and Lisa Regan.

It's always great coming back to a series where you know and love the characters. The plots are always full of twists and great detective work.

My only issue is that the plots get a little repetitive when bad things keep happening to the same people. But it doesn't detract from how easy reading these books are. I guess some characters are just unlucky.

Highly recommend to any crime lovers.

Detective Morgan Brookes 13.
When the team are called to a gruesome murder, it resembles a pattern that had occurred in a past case. Could it be linked? When a young girl turns up at the police station, with concerns over a missing friend.. Morgan wants to follow up on the lead but Ben isn't so keen., when Morgan takes a brand new pool car out, she ends up in a car accident but how and why? She doesn't get much luck does she? She also comes across another victim of their killer, but why has this girl been freed.??
This is one of my favourite series, highly recommend

I love this series and the main protagonist, Goth girl Morgan Brookes, she’s definitely not your average police detective! Her empathy for the victims of the crimes she’s tasked with solving, and their families sometimes drives her to go beyond the expected limits, which can put her in physical jeopardy, she seems to be a magnet for danger. In this latest installment her search for the killer of a young woman found dead in the forest near a riverside path is derailed by the report by another girl of a similar age claiming her friend had gone missing, and she suspected her mothers live in boyfriend. Brooke and her team need to split up to investigate both incidents, along with a third, an abduction. I enjoyed how the author wove the three stories together as Morgan and her team, headed by Ben, worked to find connections, the plot definitely kept me guessing. Cain’s character in particular adds a welcome touch of humor and warmth that isn’t always part of police procedurals, and I enjoyed seeing Marc grow, as well as Ben opening up more about his feelings.
If you’re a fan of British police procedurals this book and series will be right up your alley, and if you aren’t one yet this may turn you in to one. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance readers copy, and to author Helen Phifer for such an engaging addition to the series.

Good, unpredictable🚓🚑

This PC Morgan Brookes mystery had plenty of suspense and mystery, with deaths, disappearances and false leads fomented by a teen who really can't stand her mom's boyfriend Alan. Good action, too, as the police stumble around frustratingly unable to identify and catch the brutal killer. The first victim is the daughter of the friendly local cafe owner and was particularly taken with the way the police officers interacted with the incredulous, then devastated mother.

Morgan's personal life, and most specifically, her romantic relationship with Ben, her boss, I found less well covered. I certainly did not feel the burn or the passion. I did, however, like the small incremental steps their big boss Marc is taking to improve his connection with the detective team. It's one of the things I like about following a series: seeing the changed relationships and personal hurdles and happy developments for the returning characters.

We never really get to know this killer, even though the multi POV writing sometimes turns to their thoughts. By the story's end I just didn't feel I understood them or their motives.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Another great addition to the series. I can't believe we're on book 13 already. As usual, this book is packed full of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I was anxious to see what trouble would find Morgan this time. I was kept guessing the whole way and the ending was as dramatic as ever.

My only gripe is I would love to see more of them working as a team. It sometimes feels like Morgan is the only one who can solve a crime and always seems to end up in danger. The team is so lovable. Cain & Amy have such a great friendship and their banter is hilarious. They always provide some much needed laughter. I look forward to seeing Amy cope with her situation.

This is book 13 in this series and while we've gotten to know Morgan and the rest of the police team a lot better the plot and the cases they are solving are all fresh and new.

Morgan Ben and the rest of the team have their work cut out in this one. After a young woman is found murdered and another is reported missing by her best friend a suspect is seemingly dropped in their lap. This guy definitely ticks all the boxes for the person of interest, but he's not the only one. With all the twists, turns, and red herrings, Morgan and her team are the only ones we can trust, and they are getting conflicting information.

I love seeing Morgan and Ben moving forward in their relationship, and I love seeing where the rest of the team is at, and as always the case kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

I can't wait to see where this series is going to go next, and what kind of case they are going to be solving!

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Two Broken Girls’, Detective Morgan Brookes book 13 written by Helen Phifer, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

As Melody Carrick’s body is found on the bank of the River Rothay, Paige Evans reports that her best friend Alisa is missing and says her mother’s ex-boyfriend Alan Cooper is to blame. As DC Morgan Brookes is on her way to question him, she narrowly avoiding hitting Chloe Smith who runs in front of her from the undergrowth saying a man has abducted her then set her free. When the name of one of their colleagues is mentioned in connection with the case, Morgan knows she has to find whoever is responsible.

‘Two Broken Girls’ is a police thriller set in Rydal Falls that has suspense, drama and intrigue as Morgan, with the help of Ben Matthews, Cain and Amy, investigate cases that don’t appear to be connected and have suspects whose descriptions all differ. This is an enjoyable thriller with twists and turns that’s kept me involved from the first page to the last.

Thank you for NetGalley and Helen Phifer for giving this ARC in exchange my review.

In "Two Broken Girls" by Helen Phifer, I found myself enveloped in a compelling narrative that artfully intertwines the themes of resilience and friendship. The characters, each grappling with their own scars, resonate with my understanding of life's hardships. Phifer's ability to illuminate their journeys, while maintaining a warm and inviting tone, allows me to connect deeply with their experiences, fostering a sense of empathy that lingers long after the last page is turned. Highly recommend.

Two Broken Girls

October 17, 2024

Down by the river banks of Rydal Falls a dog walker runs after Tumbles who has taken the lead. Arthur chases after the pup but he continues on, his nose bent on finding the scent ahead. Upon the discovery of his K-9, he sees the problem. A young girl lies in the river bed, her blue nail polish glistening. Calls to the police soon brought chaos to the area. Among them Ben and his lead detective, Morgan Brookes enter the scene. The girl lying on the forest floor is none other than the college miss who waits on their staff daily. It is Melody Carrick. The college student and daughter of the cafe owner.
Two Broken Girls will be published on October 17, 2024 by bookouture. This is Phifer’s thirteenth novel in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. Each has been excellent suspense novels. They bring us a different mystery from the English towns in the river area. This latest finds the local police questioning drivers of white SUVs that seem to be seen within the realms of the college and the area where some of the students live. Phifer gives readers another nail biter. She never lets the cause or the assailant into view until the finale. Such an incredible series. I have read all 13 so far and look forward to her next. Enjoy her latest!

Another Morgan Brookes novel and no sign of a let up in tension and murders in Rydal Falls. The action is fast paced as Ben, Morgan, Cain and Amy race to discover who murdered Melody Carrick and left her body on the riverbank. This one is close to home though as Melody is the daughter of Jade, Morgans beloved coffee shop owner.
Despite the seriousness there were many moments of light humour within the team, I'm loving reading more about Cain and Amy and even the abrupt anti social boss Marc seems to be thawing. The series is going from strength to strength and I'm loving it
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. I will leave my review on Goodreads, Bookmory and Storygraph now and then on Amazon on publication day

I have recently managed to power through the whole series of Morgan Brookes and have become a little addicted. I have said before and I will say again as much as I love the character of Morgan she isn't the only copper working. Even though I would love to see other characters get air time, and for once for Morgan NOT to be the sole person to solve a crime this didn't deter me and in all honesty I still loved the book.

Melody Carrick’s body is found on the riverbank and it's clear she has been strangled. While Morgan and her colleagues start working the case another young woman Paige turns up at the station convinced that her step father had kidnapped her best friend. That alone is enough drama for any policing team worth their salt but the drama doesn't end there. This book did have a very decent storyline that kept you guessing and there was a lot to keep up with. Morgan again pays a key part in the working and solving of the case (nothing new there) but at least we get to see her boss (and partner) Ben, alongside her colleagues Amy and Cain.

Overall a very decent book and a series that still has lots of life in it.

This one had me invested from the start and kept me guessing. It was brutally horrifying at times and a rollercoaster of a read. Characters that you didn’t know if you could trust. Real layers to this story and of course our amazing heroine Morgan. I adore Morgan and her books, she seems so realistic that as a girl I can relate to her and idolize her! What a great fast paced terror filled read

Detective Morgan Brookes #13

On the banks of the River Rothay, as the first rays of sunshine hit the fast-flowing water, Melody Carrick's body lies lifeless, red strangulation marks where her gold cross necklace used to hang, Detective Morgan Brookes is certain the killer was surprised by the early morning dog walkers, and she won't rest until she unearths the evidence she needs to stop the next attack. But before Morgan has the chance to attend the post-mortem, seventeen-year-old Paige Evans rushes into the police station, claiming her stepfather Alan kidnapped her best friend. He has an old wooden box full of jewellery that she believes are trophies.

I love this series, but I'm going to start with a critique - I wish the author would stop having Morgan rush gung-ho into situations and getting hurt. She must have used up more than nine lives by now, This is a quick, easy, gripping and thrilling read. This is a multi-layered story. With no clues to whodunnit, I was guessing all the way through.

My favorite detective series is the badass Detective Morgan Brookes! So when I saw this on NetGalley I could not read it fast enough as soon as I was approved and boy I was NOT disappointed! I did not see the twists and turns coming. When I thought I had I it figured out, NOPE! This book had me reading at every free moment that work didn’t get in the way. I can’t wait for the next title in the series to come out. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC #HelenPhifer#TwoBrokenGirls #NetGalley

This is a really good series featuring Morgan Brookes and her team. The touches of humour throughout lighten up which could be a dark read and the characters are all very likeable, especially Cain. The plot is complex, fast paced, with plenty of tension and a few twists. I was totally immersed from the start and thoroughly enjoyed the read. One of the best series in the crime fiction genre. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC..

This has fast become one of my all-time favourite series.

It's one of those book series that just gets better and better. With each new installment, you wait for the inevitable slump, but it just doesn't happen. I've devoured each and every one, BUT this has got to be my most favourite (so far).

The character execution is just perfect. With each new book you learn that little bit more, which not only keeps me constantly invested, it brings in that extra glimmer of understanding just how the characters work and how they've become who they are in the present. I'll admit I absolutely adore Cain. His whole presence just fills me with joy, and his banter with Morgan always brings a smile to my face. Everybody needs a Cain in their life! I'm also really starting to like Marc. His brusque demeanour is slowly thawing, as is the teams attitudes towards him.

In Book #13, the body of college student Melody Carrick is found strangled and dumped at the riverbank with her gold necklace missing. Morgan is heartbroken. She knew Melody as she helped out at her Mum Jade's coffee shop, a place she had visited just a few hours ago.

While the investigation gets underway, another student, Paige, arrives at the police station. She believes her mums ex-boyfriend is the killer. Not only does he give her the creeps, obsessing over local murder sites, he keeps a jewellery box full of old broken bits of jewellery... could this really be an open and shut case? For once, can Morgan have a simple case on her hands?

And then another girl goes missing!

As I've now come to expect (and LOVE) about this series, nothing is quite as simple. This is a really complex plot with multiple layers needing to be peeled. This is definitely not a book you can just skim through. It requires your focus and full attention, which isn't hard as it had me held vice like from the very beginning.

Morgan is one of those detectives who takes her role of keeping people safe to the extreme. She seems to be a magnet for dangerous situations but jumps straight in, without thought or regret, and this installment is no exception.

If you haven't yet read this series, what eock have you been hiding under? Get downloading, get comfy, and get reading.... you will not regret it!!!

Unputdownable, engrossing, heart pumping, heart stopping, twisty, and with a superb ending.

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
