Markus Zusak certainly tells it like it is about his 2 wild dogs and the 3rd one that replaces them. It is not a book for everyone but it IS a good read if you have ever been at the end of a leash with an aggressive, challenging dog. It is not easy and you may never completely trust them. However you can certainly love them and they love you.
This book was hard at times and I don't know if I would have done things the way he did but that is sort of the point. Go ahead - Judge me. These are my dogs. This is what we went through.

I don't normally read books about dogs, for obvious reasons. But there are few authors that effect me like Markus Zusak does, so I took a chance on Three Wild Dogs (and the truth).
Look, if you've ever loved a dog, you know. You know how deep and real and precious that love is, a literal force like a tide or an avalanche. There were times that I just sobbed while reading this. Snarfling and gasping, and every time Mo sighed and laid his head on me to remind me, He is here, which of course made it all the worse.
And yet, Markus Zusak does it justice. He doesn't overdramatize or drown the reader in sentiment. He just tells the story of what it is to love a dog. Unflinchingly. Achingly. Beautifully. It is perfect.
Highly recommended, but with a caution. This book is about loving dogs to the end of their lives. It hurts. But as Zusak so perfectly puts it, "There are terrible and poetic things in our lives, and so often they're one and the same."

Sweet, funny story of author Markus Zusak and his three wild dogs, and also his two cats, wife and two children--but mostly about the dogs. Pet lovers will especially relate to this!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
Any dog lover will relate to parts of this hilarious book. I love people who take on the most difficult dogs and transform them into mostly perfect dogs. And I love dog rescues for giving dogs another chance. (Or should I say group homes?)
This story is told with such emotion. It'll have you laughing and crying by the end.
