Thank you netgalley and the publisher’s for giving me the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The beginning was interesting but I felt uncomfortable with the romance between a minor and adult.
This was..... not good. I'm sorry, but it was a struggle. I purchased the book because years ago I was approved for this and never read/reviewed it. And I felt as if I owed the author this. The beginning, I was into it, it was interesting. Then somewhere after 100 pages you lost me. None of the character's thought processes made sense on how they handled the situations, the characters were annoying. And lets not forget to mention the gross pedophile action between the angel and child who just turned 16. Umm no thanks.
I recently bought a new kindle after my old one broke. For some reason I was unable to download this title from the cloud onto my kindle, therefore I will be unable to review this title. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused
Have I mentioned lately that I adore YA angel books? This didn't really introduce anything new or mindblowing but it was still an enjoyable read with relatable characters.
This was just an okay-read for me. Nothing memorable. At times I wanted to stop reading because it wouldn't keep my interest, but I kept pushing through.
I hate that I didn't love this one. It started out strong, a kidnapping and an escape. The details and the following news media frenzy. Even the reaction of the dad, to become unhinged and not want her out of his sight and become obsessed with religion and survival skills and homeschooling, it all felt all to real and understandable.
But once we hit her going to high school and her mom's job and Michael and Lucas and.....it all got odd.I thought the two story lines - Maria's and Michaels - were an odd mix and didn't feel natural.
The info dumps at the Library were a bit much and also didn't feel like natural flow of the story.
and I was disappointed to see it was a cliffhanger at the end with only one part finalized before the end.
I requested this book three years ago and since then my taste in literature has changed very much, so I no longer intend to read and review this. Apologies to the publisher and author, I wish you all the best.
A strange little story. Who would of thought of an angel and a human.
I was really into this story when I started reading but I ended up putting it down because of work and when I got around to it again, I just wasn't feeling it as much which is sad. It could just be timing but it was great when I started.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review. Unfortunately I am unable to give you a proper review. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I love anything that involves angels so was very excited when I first heard about this new YA trilogy. Hope survived an abduction when she was young and has spent the years following it leading a sheltered life with her fanatical father. At 15 she petitions the court to allow her to live with her mother, but the normal life she thinks will soon begin turns into something more strange and sinister. As strange events become the norm and stranger people enter her life, she is not sure what to trust or who to turn to. Michael, an emancipated young man who is very interested in her seems to be one of the few reliable places for her to turn, but soon, even his motives come into question.
This is the first book in a trilogy so while it sets up the story, there are many questions left unanswered. It kept me fascinated the whole book and I'm anxious to see what happens next!
Dark Hope is more of a two-point-five read for me, yet in the end I found I couldn’t round it up. Whilst there were moments where I thought I would be rounding it up, as a whole the book wasn’t quite good enough for me to make the final push.
The book had promise I cannot deny that. I love books with angels; they’re one of my biggest weaknesses, meaning I was super interested to see what this one would give me. Unfortunately, I believe I’ve read far too many wonderful angel books, and have therefore been ruined. My standard has massively increased, and I expect something more. I want to be blown away by angel reads, but this one left me with a feeling of ‘meh’.
The premise was wonderful, and the start of the book left me with so many questions. However, as we started to make our way through the story I found there was less and less keeping me interested. There were so many unknowns that seemed to be answered a couple of pages later in a way that left you thinking things couldn’t have been the big surprise they were supposed to be; not long later the information would be shifted slightly so that we had some mystery again. The characters seemed to be rather all over the place; I went from being interested in them to finding them super boring, they’d go from being wise to making stupid choices.
My biggest issue, however, was the romance. I’m very picky with my romance – I’ll admit that in advance. However, I just couldn’t get into this one. There was no feeling at all. It just was. It seemed to be there to add a layer to the story. That layer really could have been done without. The story probably would have been much better if we were without the romance. It seemed to slowly take over the story, and it pulled us away from the aspects that did have potential.
Overall, it wasn’t at all what I had been expecting. My fingers were crossed for another angel addiction, but such was not to be with this one.
For lovers of Twilight. Hope still thinks about the strange child abduction she survived and the strange mark it put on her body. After years of living a sheltered life with her religious fanatic father, she is given more freedom in the custody of her often traveling and hard working mother. When strange things begin happening, Hope relies on a new friend Michael, who just might be her guardian angel.
Dark Hope is the first book in The Archangel Prophesies by Monica McGurk. Hope has had a rough childhood, fortunately she has no memory of the most traumatic part of it. Michael is an archangel. Yes, the archangel Michael we all know from the Bible. This book took ideas and characters from the Bible and created it's own prophesies and lore. This story pretty much created its own world, using Biblical characters as a guide and re-creating them into something entirely fictional. It also brought up an important issue, human trafficking. This is something serious that people should be aware of. It happens in our own country and around the world. It affects all ages, races, and genders.
I enjoyed the thought and creativity that went into this story. I've seen it compared to Twilight on some reviews. I guess it has a Twilighty feel to it in some ways, but I would never have compared the two if I didn't see that in the blurb first(then after reading the book, I saw others compared it in their reviews as well). I think Dark Hope stands fine on its own. It's its own unique story. It doesn't need the comparison. I'm curious as to what happens next. The ending was abrupt, not really a cliffhanger ending per say, but maybe still sitting on the edge a little.
