Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC.
This was my first Bonnie Traymore book. I enjoyed the pacing and layers of the mystery. When Morgan Murphy suspects her husband of cheating, she hatches a plan. When her plan doesn't go as intended, it takes her on a wild and unexpected ride. I did figure out one of the twists early on but that did not hamper my interest in reading the rest of the book. It was a fun book that held my attention and I finished it in less than a day. I will definitely read more of Traymore's books.
When I started reading this book, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it as the beginning felt a bit rushed. As the story went on and Morgan’s ‘friendship’ with Tara started to develop, I realised I was wanting to read on to find out what happened to Kyle. It was an easy read, with a good twist and I liked the ending, the epilogue especially.
This is marketed as a “spicy suspense thriller.” I immediately thought of Verity. This was not at all spicy. Just suspenseful 🙃 It’s short, under 300 pages, and typically that doesn’t bother me but I do feel like there wasn’t enough character development. It could have been 50 pages longer to help me learn and care about the characters more. I typically love an unreliable narrator but this one just didn’t hit. Again I think because there wasn’t enough info given to me about her to make me like her or care about her at all. I did like the pacing and the story in general was good. Maybe pick it up if ya want a quick, bingeable thriller.
This one had a good premise, but unfortunately I didn't find it very suspenseful. It felt like nothing actually happened between the starting and ending chapters. Also, for a book that has "a spicy suspense thriller" in the title, the spice was almost non-existent and very awkward. The ending was very far-fetched.
I was disappointed with this book. Elsewhere it's been described as 'gripping' but unfortunately it wasn't - and I didn't find it spicy or suspenseful either.
The story is based on Morgan and Kyle, a married couple who have gone away for a break apparently to 'spice up' their marriage. Which allegedly doesn't need any spicing up. But nonetheless. Immediately Kyle disappears and Morgan is nearly kidnapped. The rest of the story (or most of it) is then about whether Kyle was having an affair, whether Kyle was the one who actually tried to kidnap Morgan, whether he's going to ever return, etc.
I found it really grating and ridiculous how unaffected Morgan appeared to be by the whole situation. For someone who has lost her husband in very distressing circumstances, she's barely affected at all. Beyond a few lines thrown in about how she sometimes forgets he's not there and so on, she just gets on with her life. It made her character, and the book in general, feel completely absurd.
Her story intertwines with that of a journalist who is looking into the case, but she wasn't very interesting either. And when we find out what's actually happened with Kyle, the plot to me felt very far-fetched and silly. The whole book threw up more questions than it answered.
I only read this a couple of weeks ago but I can't actually remember the ending any more. I made myself read to the end because I'd requested it on Netgalley, but I really didn't rate it and would not recommend.
Damn that Morgan Murphy! I struggled to get into this book, but after a few chapters, I couldn't put it down. I needed to know what happened to Kyle. Twisty-page turner with a little spice. I do think that the description of spicy suspense thriller was a little deceiving. Needed more spice! This was my first book by Bonnie Traymore. I'll definitely be adding more of her books to my TBR.
The ending of the book was magical. I'm still smiling.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this arc.
This was a well drawn out thriller. However, I just couldn't get into it and was hard to capture my attention as the plot kept changing too much and hard to focus.
Lovely book that everyone should read. The cover pulls you in immediately. I had heard about this author from tiktok. So glad to have received an ARC of this.
The first chapter of this book sucked me straight in.
I did not trust any character in this book apart from the journalist Tara. I just didn't know who to believe. Everyone just seemed dodgy to me.
I enjoyed this book and the ending surprised me and i'm glad it ended the way it did.
I love myself a good thriller and adding some spice, had me intrigued! I really wanted to like this one, but it did fall a bit short for me. I will say the first couple of chapters had me in, but as the story went on, I felt the storyline felt apart and there where too many unrealistic situations that happened.
First, let’s start off with the main character Morgan, as it was a bit hard to find her likeable and relatable. Her actions where all over the place and although there was some background information as to what happened to her growing up, it still never felt genuine. It was really hard to even feel bad for Morgan, as there just wasn’t enough beyond the surface with her character. Although the reporter Tara was a bit more relatable, I felt her love life storyline felt forced and not really necessary for the premise of the book.
I must be honest and say I did struggle to finish this one as it just did not hold my attention at all and I couldn’t resonate with any of the characters. As a true crime fan, there where just too many unbelievable holes in this “crime” story.
Although this is labeled as a “spicy suspense thriller”, I don’t think it should be considered a “suspense thriller” as there was not much of a thriller feel to it and the spice level was minimal at best. I would characterize this more as a mystery than anything else.
Overall, I think the idea and premise of the book was interesting, but the characters and plot fell flat for me.

Thank you Bonnie Traymore and NetGalley for an ARC of A Little Getaway. This was my first Traymore book and I was not disappointed! A possible cheating husband who vanishes during a weekend getaway with his wife? I’m in.
I really enjoyed how the book ended. Although I usually like a good plot twist at the end of a thriller, I really admire how the ending of this book really ties the whole story together without leaving you asking unanswered questions. Bonnie did a great job at keeping you on the edge of your seat, wanting to solve the mystery of missing Kyle Murphy. Definitely will be reading more books from her in the future!
I did not get know this book. Nor did I read all of it because I couldn't subject myself to that torture. The premise sounded super interesting but the writing was.... Lancing. Alot.
So many twists that I didn't see coming. Loved this story so much. Five stars across the board. I didn't know what to believe.
Really enjoyed this book. It’s the story of Kyle and Morgan and how their little getaway leads them through love and espionage. It kept me guessing to the end. The characters were well defined and mostly relatable. The pace was fast. I read it in one sitting and recommend this book to everyone.
A Little Getaway by Bonnie Traymore was a 3-star read for me. I did finish it but found it did not hold my attention through the numerous plot twists. Morgan and Kyle’s story was a bit too much and those two as a married couple just gave the “ick” factor. However, I did love the epilogue and will give Bonnie Traymore another try since this was a new author for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. Publication Date: October 9, 2024
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC! This book started off really strong. It was very hard to tell if the main character Morgan could really be trusted and the storyline intrigued me. Unfortunately I thought the later half of the book was super rushed and left me a little confused on what actually occurred. The additional storyline of Tara's love life felt forced and once again rushed. Overall I think the book could've been better if it wasn't so short in length and there was more time to gradually develop the story.
A Little Getaway is a fast-paced, quick read that doesn’t demand much in terms of deep thought. It offers an accessible story that is easy to read and enjoy.
The story follows Morgan as she grapples with the sudden disappearance of her husband. As she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about his fate, she begins to question the very foundation of their life together. The narrative explores her unraveling perceptions of their marriage and the secrets that surface along the way, creating a sense of intrigue and mystery as she seeks to piece together the truth behind her husband’s disappearance.
I personally struggled to relate to the characters, as their actions often felt unrealistic and disconnected from what I would expect in these situations. This made it challenging for me to fully engage with their stories and motivations.
While this book didn’t resonate with me, I recognize that different readers have varying tastes, and what may not have worked for me might appeal to others looking for a lighter read. I appreciate the effort that went into crafting this story.
Imagine thinking that you have the perfect marriage, only to begin to suspect that your husband is cheating. Before you have an opportunity to confront him or do anything about it he disappears without a trace, and you fear you may be next.
This story was definitely fast paced and full of twists, turns, and secrets. However, I would not label this book as spicy nor a thriller. Mystery? Suspenseful? Yes and yes. But spicy thriller is a stretch. It failed to keep me engaged and wanting to keep reading. I didn't really feel a connection with any of the characters, nor was the ending satisfying to me. It did, however, keep me entertained. For that I'll give this book 3 stars.

Read this in 2 days! Got hooked with the first chapter, the middle had me a little confused though. The ending was great and I loved the relationship the main character built with a reporter!
This was a quick book. Fast paced and felt like it started in the middle. For me, it fell flat and didn’t keep my attention. The subplots were thin (an illegal lumber racket and a sexual assault in high school) and I just lost interest halfway through. I wouldn’t recommend. Thanks to NetGalley for the free ARC.
