As a childless adult I wouldn’t use this book for actual recipes, but it’s definitely more decorative. I wouldn’t say there is anything unique in the book, but I imagine children would love looking through the pictures and picking what to make. The pictures are beautiful.
The Squishmallows Baking Book is probably the cutest cookbook I’ll read all year. This cookbook has 50 easy recipes inspired by the cutest toy right now. This Squishmallows cookbook is sure to be a hit with any fans, and it’s especially perfect to give as a gift this holiday season.
MISSION
The mission of the Squishmallow cookbook centers around bringing the cozy, fun essence of Squishmallows into the kitchen, encouraging families and fans to explore playful recipes. It aims to create a sense of comfort, joy, and creativity in cooking, with recipes that inspire fans to make food that looks and feels as delightful as their favorite plushies.
AUDIENCE
If you have a Squishmallows fan in your life, and you’re not sure what to get them for the holidays, this would be the perfect gift, especially if you don’t know which ones they have or want to give something more than just stuffed animals.
While the theme of the books seems like it should be very kid-friendly, the recipes need either an older child or adult to help a younger one complete. With recipes like cinnamon rolls, cheesy scones or three-color dough cookies, a little one will definitely some supervision and support to make them. The cookbook has beautiful pictures and illustrations of the Squishmallow characters, so a smaller child would definitely like looking through the book.
This was such a cute cookbook! My daughters and I immediately sat down and started making a list of all the recipes we wanted to try first. First on our list is Clara's Granola Bars, Cruz's Avocado Cupcakes, Han's Chocolate Truffles, and Mony's Raspberry Lemonade. I've already got the ingredients on order and will be trying these recipes out tomorrow. The recipes are easy to follow, and I know my 11 year old will be able to try the recipes on her own if she wanted to.
I really loved that this cookbook has a conversion guide and a substitution list just in case certain ingredients are readily available in your country . It really takes the guesswork out of it. This cookbook would be a great gift for anyone who loves Squishmallows. I will definitely be purchasing a copy for my niece. I received this via Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group in exchange for honest review.
For those who aren’t familiar with Squishmallows, they are very popular stuffed toys that took off during Covid. I ordered Squishmallows: The Official Baking Book, thinking it was a children’s baking cookbook. I was wrong. This baking book is full of dozens of absolutely mouthwatering baked goods. Most are sweet, but there are a few savory treats like cheddar scones which turned out to be fabulous.
It turn out that this isn’t a children’s cookbook; rather it is a baking book for adults (and collectors of the stuffed toys). The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. The recipes aren’t particularly easy or for children, but most bakers will be able to make them easily whether they are beginners or advanced. There are beautiful photographs of most of the dishes, and cute, colorful illustrations of Squishmallows. The recipes are also named for the different Squishmallows.
All told, this cookbook is fun and very colorful. The recipes are very tempting, and they turn out picture perfect. Who could resist Zuzana’s triple choc chip cookies, Angie’s peanut butter brownies, or Edie’s Easter Egg Fridge Cake? There are notes at the beginning of each recipe with little blurbs on some of the Squishmallows.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.
This book was very cute. The illustrations were inviting and appealing to fans of the stuffed animals. The photography was well done. The instructions were a little complicated, but well written. The biggest downside is that some of the recipes are continued on the next of pages to accommodate cute characters. While baking it can be difficult to turn a page if you're covered in ingredients. The recipes also look incomplete at first glance. Keeping recipes to one set of pages is very helpful.
The concept of a Squishmallows cookbook is brilliant. It’s no secret the Squishmallows have taken the world by storm, grabbing the attention of children and adults of all ages. The cookbook was just as eye catching with the adorable photos, scrumptious recipes, and assortment of colors. There’s everything from pretzels to brownies, to tarts and whoopie pies. This would be the perfect gift for your Squishmallow loving family member or friend, but the best part is that you don’t even have to like Squishmallows to benefit from this cookbook, as the recipes cover everything and anything sweet you could possibly want.
I received a free ebook from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
Ok I really enjoyed this book even though I’m not into Squishmallows or have any real interest in them either. There are lots of good recipes of differing levels for all bakers with great pictures too!
There are simpler recipes like banana bread and shortbread cookies as well as more involved ones for macarons and gingerbread houses! There are also drinks extras, like how to make your own marshmallows too.
All in all a very nice book! Definitely accessible recipes for fans of Squishmallows, and those who just want yummy baking
My daughter loves everything Squishmallow and this cookbook was right up her alley! She loved the fact that each recipe was associated with a character… I feel that it gave us way to bond as she was interested in cooking these recipes with me. The blueberry cheesecake was to die for! Can’t wait to try more of these recipes.
Perfect for the squishmallow lover in your life! These were not simple recipes at all. They aren’t complex, they just aren’t your typical kitschy cookbook type recipes. They could be in any cookbook minus the cutesy names and pictures.
This cookbook is so colorful and filled with delicious looking recipes. However, many recipes are not really unique, so if you are not a huge fan, this book doesn't really bring many new baking recipes.
Not all recipes are easy, so if you want to make some recipes from this book with your kids, they might need more help than you might expect. Personally, I didn't find anything super complicated and the instructions are quite clear. Every recipe has a photo (which for me is something I want when it comes to this kind of cookbooks).
I decided to give only 4 stars because unless you are a huge squishmallows fan, this book doesn't bring much to the table.
Most of the recipe in the book will be familiar to cookbook readers/fans. But for Squishmallow fans, there are little intros from their favorite plushies about each recipe. All the major holidays are covered, and it's a fun cookbook to use for family baking time. However littles will need help-I'd say about half of the book's recipes involve more complicated baking (ie making macaroons) and aren't quick and simple bakes. But other ones can easily be made and enjoyed within an hour, so do read recipes in advance, before tackling with kids. This would be a fun book to give for a birthday present for a child who loves dessert and Squishmallows, or as a Christmas present!
We love our Squishmallow and were so excited to find this cookbook. This book is packed with over 50 mouth watering recipes. The perfect book for your sweet tooth. You will find the basics like buttercream and caramel and even Squishmallow marshmallow. Then you will find the tastiest desserts and drink recipes. Each recipe is shown with a Squishmallow and wonderful photos of each treat. The recipes are complete with description, detailed ingredients and step-by-step easy to follow instructions. We found our favorites, like Genevieve’s Macarons, Han’s Chocolate Truffles and Puff’s Hot Chocolate with all the trimmings. I can’t wait to try all of these amazing recipes with my family. Your family will love this cookbook and have fun cooking together. Enjoy with your favorite Squishmallow and your family.
So I want to start out by saying this is a super cute book I think it's perfect not just for kids not just for adults but for both of them together I personally found that this was such a good cookbook to use for fun relationship building between any adult or any teenager and a child My son and I made a couple different recipes using this book All of them were very delicious but also we just had so much fun because we were connecting over something that we both enjoyed he loves squishmallows This is one of his favorite things right now I love cooking so we were able to combine the two things that we both love and do something together to build a really amazing memory I definitely recommend this
My household is full of Squishmallows and sweets. I love combining the two! We've already made Cam's three-colour dough cookies and they were easy and fun to make! I went with a simple recipe first because my daughter wanted to help and she had so much fun! I can't wait to make more of these sweet treats with and without my daughter!
This baking book is absolutely adorable! I love the inclusion of illustrations of the squishmallows with real life photos of the different baked goods. The baked goods look amazing and I can’t wait to try out some of these recipes! This cookbook will definitely make your face smile and your belly hungry!
This book is an absolute treasure and would make a lovely gift for children and grown ups alike. A practical book that's just as pleasing to browse as it is to use.
It is beautifully illustrated and each recipe is assigned to a different squishmellow character. Each recipe is introduced by a paragraph about the character and recipe which is so engaging for children.
Recipes are clear with ingredients list and staged instructions. Ingredients are readily available and appear repeatedly throughout the book so are likely to be used again, not just sat in the cupboard.
I love that there's a bit of everything in this book! From pancakes, cookies and savoury snacks to all out show stoppers!
The only thing I'd like to see would be approximate calories per portion. In a health conscious world, and with some of the recipes being very rich in ingredients, it would be very helpful to the reader.
This was a really fun cookbook for my squish loving kid. Some of the recipes lacked a depth of flavor but overall a fun book for baking with kids
I have no idea what a "squishmallow" is, but I have a student who is obsessed with them, so I thought I would take a look at this cookbook. (For those who were as confused as I am, think of them as giant versions of Beanie Babies or Cabbage Patch dolls, with the concomitant fans. This from the company website: "Debuting in 2017, the iconic Squishmallows brand features collectible plush with lovable personalities, a whimsical design, and ultrasoft feel. In more than 55 countries, the strong brand equity and popularity have resulted in multiple line extensions and cross-category collaborations.")
It seems like these stuffed animals would appeal to elementary aged children, so I was surprised at how complicated the recipes were. They were clearly written by British bakers, because the measurements are not in cups but rather in ounces, and they call for caster sugar and cornflour instead of cornstarch. While the US measurements and terms are given, it still makes looking at the ingredient list more work.
There are some recipes that would be doable with children, like chocolate chip cookie cups and some quick breads, but there are also meringues and macarons, which seem a bit complicated. There are also ingredients that I personally consider rather posh, like almond flour and whole milk.
This is beautifully formatted, and each recipes is introduced by a squishmallow (they have names). It's bright and cheery, with excellent photos of the baked goods and drinks. This would be a good book for a doting grandmother who is enamoured of The Great British Baking Show and has also been bank rolling a menagerie of squishmallows, and wants to spend quality time whipping eggs and using a double boiler with a grandchild.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group- White Lion and NetGalley for the e-ARC of the book.
Our household is full of Squishmallow fans, so I was really excited about this book. This book contains recipes for different occasions and seasons, various difficulties and definitely should please every taste bud. I like that the ingredients were listed both in grams and ounces as well as some ingredients had variations depending in which part of the pond you are.
This book is not only fun to look through because of its colorful illustrations, but also fun to follow the recipe for yummy result.
Adorable cook book. Visually very pleasing and cute. All of the "bakes" have pictures, which is great, but there are no pictures of the "baking extras" or "drinks" which is a bummer. Some squishmallows have a very cute connection to the recipe, though there are some that would seem to be better matched with other recipes.
Would be an adorable gift paired with a squishmallow!
Thank you netgalley and publisher for a review ecopy!
