Nothing Ever Happens Here is based in a small, sleepy Minnesota town where everyone knows everyone else's business. Told from several different points of view, the story revolves around an attempted murder, a missing husband, and a lot of financial impropriety. Many of the characters reside in an group home for the elderly. Said home is run by Shelby, who was involved in a scary incident in the beginning of the book. The narrative then picks up eighteen months later as the town recovers from the incident.
The perpetrator of the incidents throughout the book seems almost to be the caricature of a James Bond style villain in his ability to avoid detection and suspicion. The ending was satisfying from a cynical point of view.

Everything I read by this author really just sucks me right in. The setting was so atmospheric and really added to my reading experience. I’ll definitely be reading everything this author puts out moving forward.

Don't ever say "nothing happens in my town" because you will be surprised what can happen.

What a mistake to go back into the restaurant for her daughter's stuffed animal.

But....who would think someone would be inside looking to harm Shelby and someone who says she should know.

Shelby was thrown into the restaurant's freezer while her two daughters were asleep in the running vehicle in freezing weather.

That same night Mackenzie's husband went missing and is still missing, but Mackenzie finds out what actually was going on when she sees his bank statements and now activity on his phone.

What is happening in this town where nothing usually happens?

NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE had so many characters and was a bit difficult to follow.

I got the gist of it, but wasn't anxious to get back to the book. I was a bit disappointed because I normally devour her books. 3/5

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I'm a big fan of this author, she's an auto-read for me. I thought this was a really great story. It started off with a bang, so I was hooked right from the beginning, and it kept me guessing the whole time. I really enjoyed the quirky retirement home residents that helped solve the mystery. There were, though a lot of characters to follow, so I did sometimes feel a little confused, but other than that it was great. Fast plot, clever storyline, wonderful characters. Definitely recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity!

I finally got through it! I read two books in between trying to finish it. It was just sooooo slow! And there were way too many people to keep up with. It made me frustrated. I was also frustrated at some of the illogical actions that wouldn’t happen in real life. Overall, I guess the plot wasn’t too bad (hence my 3 stars instead of two) I can’t really blame it on my mood because I read a ton of books, and I’m pretty generous with my reviews. I feel bad that I can’t rate any higher, but I want to be honest. I appreciate NetGalley for this ARC.

I am a big Seraphina Nova Glass fan, so I was super excited to get this ARC. Unfortunately, its her least favorite book of mine - with On A Quiet Street still being number 1 and The Vacancy in Room 10 as number two. There were some plot twists and turns that I liked, but a little too many characters to keep track of. And I felt like the old folks home people were a bit dorky and their dialogue was cringe at times. Felt immature almost.
Other than that, a solid thriller that I got through in two days. Its quick and keeps you interested but not going on the favorites shelf.

This was a quick read told from multiple POVs. While the large cast of characters took some time to sort out at the beginning, the story kept me intrigued and guessing until the very end. Although the twist wasn’t my favorite, it still caught me by surprise. Overall, I enjoyed how the story held my attention and kept me hooked throughout!

When Shelby Dawson survives a harrowing attack that should have left her dead, she tries to move past it—for herself, and for her family. Fifteen months later, with the help of her best friend, Mackenzie, she finally feels safe again in the snowy Minnesota town she calls home. But when an anonymous note appears on her windshield bearing the same threats her attacker made, Shelby realizes that her nightmare has only just begun. As new evidence surfaces, and a group of well-meaning senior citizens accidentally makes the case go viral online, the situation quickly goes from bad to worse. And with suspicious accidents targeting those closest to her happening all over town, Shelby can’t shake the feeling that she’s being watched. Fighting to stay one step ahead of disaster, she finds herself asking the question on everyone’s lips: Who attacked her that night?

I was so excited to get my hands on this, I love Seraphina’s writing! This was a unique thriller. The senior citizens added a humorous side to the story which I really enjoyed, it made it feel lighter! It felt like a cozy mystery with some good thrilling parts and solid twists. I will say there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Overall I really enjoyed this and think I will read whatever she puts out, just love her writing style! (3.80 ⭐️)

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing/Graydon House and NetGalley for the digital ARC.

I absolutely loved this book! Extremely twisty, and so much going on. This is the second book I’ve read by Seraphina Nova Glass, and I’ve loved both.

Thank you, NetGalley giving me access to this ARC. I have mixed feelings about this one. It started off strong then got slow then picked up then got slow again. There were a lot of twists that I didn’t see coming and I enjoyed those. Overall, this book was enjoyable but, it wasn’t her best novel.

I really wanted to enjoy this book but it really felt flat for me. I felt like I couldn’t pay attention to what was happening
The book started off really strong and interesting but then it started to drag out.

I did like the different POVs of the characters, it has winter vibes, a small town setting and twist. All that I enjoy in books!

Thank you to Netgally and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the arc !

Seraphina is unique. The way she writes people – I don’t think I can think of anyone else who writes characters like she does.
Her characters make me feel like I want to have them in my life. I want to be a part of their fictional lives. She writes people that speak to my heart and my soul. She writes people that feel like they are my tribe. She doesn’t just write found family – she writes the most soulful found family.
If you loved the pool girls and all the other quirkies from Vacancy in Room 10, then you will absolutely fall in love with the adorable, quirky and SO SO SO ALIVE elderly people in this book.
While the book is more of a mystery than a psych thriller, and while the mystery part is somewhat very, very cozy, I feel like the real power of this book lies in those absolutely awesome characters. In their depth, in their quirkiness, in their being flawed yet lovable, and in the way they are written.

This is yet again one of those books I was glad to be able to read so well far in advance before anyone else gets to read it – the book’s pub date is set to next year only.

Thank you @thrillerbookloversthepulse and @seraphinanovaglass for the book!
I think I will be posting about it again. I feel like this book deserves to be mentioned again and again. Also, we all over at #thepulse keep talking about it – it looks like we all love it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for an ARC of this book.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I've enjoyed Glass' other novels that I have read previously. However, I felt there was just so much to this book that it kinda went off the rails. Some of the backstories felt SO unnecessary and the ending was just a bit too incredible to believe.

I really enjoyed this thriller/mystery by Seraphina Nova Glass. This was the first book I’ve read by the author. The pool of main characters includes crime solving (and fighting) elderly from the local assisted living facility. This isn’t something that I’ve seen in other books. They were lovable, a bit comedic, and provided lots of twists and turns. Each chapter is a different character’s POV. I don’t generally enjoy books written this way but in Nothing Ever Happens Here, it flowed well despite the changing POVs. There were a large number of characters (maybe a few too many?). I noticed one typo near the beginning (Neil Young was spelled Niel). Overall a solid read that I’d recommend and i look forward to reading more by the author.

Firstly, if you’re like me and it’s a challenge to have lots of characters, know this book has LOADS of characters to remember. They are distinctive enough that I at least got the key players, but it was an uphill battle. I think audio book format might have been easier as each character would have a different tone. That said, this book was wonderful. It has a juxtaposition of cold and calculated acts with the wholesomeness of a tight community in a retirement home. You fall in love with everyone there! The mystery keeps you guessing although I had an idea of the “bad guy” I still didn’t have all the pieces yet that explained actions. I highly recommend!
Huge thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE is not my favorite book by Seraphina Nova Glass, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The small town setting is great and lends a cozy vibe. Shelby and Mack are intriguing protagonists. I also liked the inclusion of senior characters for a bit of charm. While the suspense fell a little flat, I was still eagerly turning the pages. It's pretty clear early on that the main suspect is not the right suspect so that was sort of frustrating but also added nicely to the tension. The ending does provide a satisfactory conclusion. I'll look forward to more from this author.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-galley; all opinions in my review are 100% my own.

Glass is an automatic read/listen for me. Her books are engaging and twisty while still being thoughtful. Nothing Ever Happens Here was no different, while I did guess some twists, it was still very engaging. I've come to learn I like books that feature a podcast so well done! Thanks for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Thanks NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love Glass’s books and this one was no exception. There was a slight Richard Osman feel this book. In addition to a really great suspenseful read. I always enjoy books with a podcast. I was happy to see this component in this book. I did figure out early on who did it, but I appreciate the small twist at the end. I also didn’t figure out why. Definitely check this book out when it’s released in February.

I was thrilled to read this new book from Seraphina Nova Glass! The amount of cliffhangers at the end of every chapter kept this book so exciting.

When Shelby was attacked one night in their snowy town in Minnesota she tries to move past it. After 15 months, she finally feels safe only to receive a threatening letter bearing the same threats her attacker made.

This story had so much going on in a good way!! We are led in one direction only to realize it’s a dead end. The atmosphere of the book I loved as well as the group of senior citizens who created a podcast to determine who the threat was in their small town. Such a fun mystery book. A quick read too!

This author is hit and miss for me. The writing in Nothing Ever Happens Here felt choppy and I kept forgetting whether I was reading about Shelby or Mack. It started strong but I lost interest quickly. And it's so frustrating when both characters have gone through frightening experiences and then somehow don't remember to carry their phones with them! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
