This book had me hooked from the start! Shelby’s story is both heartbreaking and empowering as she tries to rebuild her life after a brutal attack, only to find herself caught in an even deeper nightmare. The suspense builds perfectly, and by the last few chapters, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. And that final twist? Completely blindsided me in the best way!

I absolutely loved the quirky group of senior citizens trying to solve the case with their podcast. They brought so much humor and warmth to the story, and their banter was hilarious. It added a lighthearted touch to balance out the darker, more intense moments. The found-family vibe they created with Shelby was a highlight for me.

The multiple POVs kept things interesting, and I loved how each chapter left me on edge, desperate to know what would happen next. I also really appreciated the author’s vivid writing—it made me feel like I was right there in snowy Minnesota, watching everything unfold.

This book was dark, twisty, and full of surprises, but it also had moments of humor and heart that I didn’t expect. If you love suspenseful mysteries with unforgettable characters, definitely give this one a read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall, I liked this story but I felt like it had so much more potential. I did like the concept of the nursing home seniors starting a podcast in their own version of a “whodunnit.” But idk it just kind of fell flat for me after that. There were a few too many plot holes for my liking. I also felt that there were too many POVs to keep up with. Kind of all over the place for me.

Shelby and Mack have been friends for as long as either of them can remember. One night, after the two meet up for a 'girls dinner' Shelby is brutally assaulted, and Mack returns home to find that her husband has vanished. As time passes and Shelby tries to move forward from her harrowing experience, she becomes convinced that her attacker is making good on his promise to come after her friends and family if she ever speaks about what happened that night. This was an enjoyable read that was able to keep my interest. While some of the plot twists were a little predictable, it didn't take away my enjoyment from the story.

This was an enjoyable thriller! The writing was excellent and the plot was very interesting. There were some areas in the book where I felt the pacing was too slow and I lost a bit of interest. Some of the twists were also a bit predictable, Other than that, I overall enjoyed this novel!

A year after Shelby survives being attacked and left for dead, she worries that her attacker is making good on his promise to come for her family if she ever talks about what happened.

I’ve loved every book I’ve read by this author, and while this one wasn’t my absolute favorite, it was still an enjoyable read. Unlike her usual style, this story leans more into mystery than thriller, with a strong whodunit vibe, which isn’t typically my go-to. That said, the multiple perspectives and the inclusion of quirky, memorable senior citizens from a small town added a unique twist to the narrative.

The plot kept me guessing—I truly didn’t know who was behind what or what their motives were. The characters were engaging, and their loyalty to one another was touching. With only a handful of perspectives, it was easy to follow the story without feeling overwhelmed. The pacing was quick, with several tense attack scenes that kept me glued to the page.

As for the ending? It was perfectly executed and wrapped up the story in a satisfying way. While not my personal favorite from this author, it was a great read that I believe her usual readers will enjoy.

3.5/5⭐

“Nothing Ever Happens" is another captivating novel by Seraphina Nova Glass. This fast-paced story is filled with dark twists and features a compelling array of characters. The protagonist, Shelby, endures a brutal assault from an unknown assailant at the start of the narrative, only to find herself facing renewed threats to her and her family's safety. In a charming turn of events, a group of senior citizens from the assisted living facility where Shelby serves as director take it upon themselves to become amateur detectives and launch a podcast. Their light-hearted moments provide a delightful contrast to the tension throughout the book. Be sure to add this engaging read to your reading list!

Shelby, a devoted mother to two twin girls, barely survives a brutal attack one cold winter night in her small Minnesota town. Her best-friend Mack's husband goes missing the same night. Fifteen months later, the two are struggling to put the past behind them when Shelby gets a new threat. The senior citizens of the group home Shelby runs jump on the case and try to help save the two friends from further harm. Ugh...this book was work to get through. It is part thriller, part cozy mystery (can we all agree that the senior citizens solving crimes trope is officially overdone?) and neither one was done particularly well. There are so many characters to keep track of that when the villain was finally revealed, it took me a few moments to remember exactly who they were.

While I was reading this book, I was thinking this would make a great movie. Then I went to mark it “read” in my Goodreads and realized the author was a playwright. It’s definitely written in that style. I wasn’t expecting it and at times, it was hard to follow but the story was compelling so I kept wanting to read and find out what happened! There were so many twists and POVs, it kept me guessing!

I love the way this author writes her characters. There is an easy camaraderie between them and it’s like seeing an old friend after a long break. The mystery is a little meandering but I loved reading it.

Nothing Ever Happens Here is based in a small, sleepy Minnesota town where everyone knows everyone else's business. Told from several different points of view, the story revolves around an attempted murder, a missing husband, and a lot of financial impropriety. Many of the characters reside in an group home for the elderly. Said home is run by Shelby, who was involved in a scary incident in the beginning of the book. The narrative then picks up eighteen months later as the town recovers from the incident.
The perpetrator of the incidents throughout the book seems almost to be the caricature of a James Bond style villain in his ability to avoid detection and suspicion. The ending was satisfying from a cynical point of view.

Everything I read by this author really just sucks me right in. The setting was so atmospheric and really added to my reading experience. I’ll definitely be reading everything this author puts out moving forward.

Don't ever say "nothing happens in my town" because you will be surprised what can happen.

What a mistake to go back into the restaurant for her daughter's stuffed animal.

But....who would think someone would be inside looking to harm Shelby and someone who says she should know.

Shelby was thrown into the restaurant's freezer while her two daughters were asleep in the running vehicle in freezing weather.

That same night Mackenzie's husband went missing and is still missing, but Mackenzie finds out what actually was going on when she sees his bank statements and now activity on his phone.

What is happening in this town where nothing usually happens?

NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE had so many characters and was a bit difficult to follow.

I got the gist of it, but wasn't anxious to get back to the book. I was a bit disappointed because I normally devour her books. 3/5

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I'm a big fan of this author, she's an auto-read for me. I thought this was a really great story. It started off with a bang, so I was hooked right from the beginning, and it kept me guessing the whole time. I really enjoyed the quirky retirement home residents that helped solve the mystery. There were, though a lot of characters to follow, so I did sometimes feel a little confused, but other than that it was great. Fast plot, clever storyline, wonderful characters. Definitely recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity!

I finally got through it! I read two books in between trying to finish it. It was just sooooo slow! And there were way too many people to keep up with. It made me frustrated. I was also frustrated at some of the illogical actions that wouldn’t happen in real life. Overall, I guess the plot wasn’t too bad (hence my 3 stars instead of two) I can’t really blame it on my mood because I read a ton of books, and I’m pretty generous with my reviews. I feel bad that I can’t rate any higher, but I want to be honest. I appreciate NetGalley for this ARC.

I am a big Seraphina Nova Glass fan, so I was super excited to get this ARC. Unfortunately, its her least favorite book of mine - with On A Quiet Street still being number 1 and The Vacancy in Room 10 as number two. There were some plot twists and turns that I liked, but a little too many characters to keep track of. And I felt like the old folks home people were a bit dorky and their dialogue was cringe at times. Felt immature almost.
Other than that, a solid thriller that I got through in two days. Its quick and keeps you interested but not going on the favorites shelf.

This was a quick read told from multiple POVs. While the large cast of characters took some time to sort out at the beginning, the story kept me intrigued and guessing until the very end. Although the twist wasn’t my favorite, it still caught me by surprise. Overall, I enjoyed how the story held my attention and kept me hooked throughout!

When Shelby Dawson survives a harrowing attack that should have left her dead, she tries to move past it—for herself, and for her family. Fifteen months later, with the help of her best friend, Mackenzie, she finally feels safe again in the snowy Minnesota town she calls home. But when an anonymous note appears on her windshield bearing the same threats her attacker made, Shelby realizes that her nightmare has only just begun. As new evidence surfaces, and a group of well-meaning senior citizens accidentally makes the case go viral online, the situation quickly goes from bad to worse. And with suspicious accidents targeting those closest to her happening all over town, Shelby can’t shake the feeling that she’s being watched. Fighting to stay one step ahead of disaster, she finds herself asking the question on everyone’s lips: Who attacked her that night?

I was so excited to get my hands on this, I love Seraphina’s writing! This was a unique thriller. The senior citizens added a humorous side to the story which I really enjoyed, it made it feel lighter! It felt like a cozy mystery with some good thrilling parts and solid twists. I will say there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Overall I really enjoyed this and think I will read whatever she puts out, just love her writing style! (3.80 ⭐️)

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing/Graydon House and NetGalley for the digital ARC.

I absolutely loved this book! Extremely twisty, and so much going on. This is the second book I’ve read by Seraphina Nova Glass, and I’ve loved both.

Thank you, NetGalley giving me access to this ARC. I have mixed feelings about this one. It started off strong then got slow then picked up then got slow again. There were a lot of twists that I didn’t see coming and I enjoyed those. Overall, this book was enjoyable but, it wasn’t her best novel.

I really wanted to enjoy this book but it really felt flat for me. I felt like I couldn’t pay attention to what was happening
The book started off really strong and interesting but then it started to drag out.

I did like the different POVs of the characters, it has winter vibes, a small town setting and twist. All that I enjoy in books!

Thank you to Netgally and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the arc !
