Nothing Ever Happens here by Seraphina Nova Glass
Genre: Thriller
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Missing husband. Attempt for murder. Missing money. Suspenseful deaths.👀
This second book for me by this author and again a great thriller! 😝💃 This book is a fast paced mystery/thriller set in a small town with multiple POVs. The best element of the book was group of elderly people from retiring house helping to solve rise of a crime. I loved their dialogues and jokes😁.
It was fun read and I didn’t guess the twist. 😝✨💃
Thank you @htp_hive for the gifted ARC!

I’ve been needing an excellent thriller and this new one from Seraphina Nova Glass absolutely delivered. I loved that it was all told from the view of the female characters, I loved the red herrings, I loved the twists and turns. This is a top notch thriller and I highly recommend.
Fifteen months ago, Mack (the owner of a local cafe) and Shelby (her bff and the women who runs the local retirement home) were struck by a dual tragedy… Shelby was almost killed by a break in to Mack’s cafe and Mack’s husband went missing. It’s clear these two things have something to do with each other, but no one knows what it is. And now, things are happening again… Shelby and her family are being targeted, Mack is finding Leo’s things and finding out new information. So together, with a group of retirees they decide to get to the bottom of things themselves. But they may just be putting themselves in harms way…
Ok first of all, inclusion of retirees trying to solve crime with a true crime podcast?! Hilarious, genius, loved it, only murder in the building vibes. But the tension and fear and likelihood that any character could die at any moment, also so good. This was unputdownable and so twisty. Definitely high on my thriller love list

Looking for a cozy, comfortable thriller told in multiple POVS, Nothing Ever Happens Here is for you. The storyline follows Shelby who was attacked and left for dead 15 months earlier. She is now receiving anonymous notes on her windshield. Is it the same attacker? Garnering the attention from some senior citizens in a care resident, the story goes viral asking the question “who will be next”.
The senior citizens are adorable and add a good flair to the story, but overall, I felt the story fell a little flat for me.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for my ARC in exchange for my thoughts.

Thank you @htp_hive, @htpbooks and @netgalley for both my e-ARC and ALC of Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass! Last year, I read On A Quiet Street by the author and LOVED it, so I was excited to check out another title by her.
Shelby was attacked at her friend Mack and Leo’s restaurant and left for dead, but she is saved just in time and survives. Fifteen months later, Shelby is focused on moving forward with life for herself, her husband, and two young daughters- until she starts receiving threatening messages that appear to be from her attacker. Mack’s husband Leo has also been missing since the night of the attack and Mack is a mess over both the loss/disappearance of her husband and the mess that Leo left behind for her. Shelby and Mack are trying to put together the pieces from that night to figure out what happened to Leo and who is trying to hurt Shelby- with very little help from the police and allllll the help of the senior citizen residents of The Oleander, an assisted living facility that Shelby manages.
There were elements of this novel that I enjoyed such as the pacing and multiple POVs, but I especially loved the endearing cast of characters at The Oleander- the true stars of the novel! However, it seemed like this was two different books merged into one. In some ways, it was a dark, twisty thriller, which I always love (and it was definitely dark!), but in other ways this book read as a cozy mystery with the humor and focus on the senior citizen sleuths at The Oleander. I think the book had the opportunity to successfully go in one direction, but in trying to accomplish both it seemed a little disjointed and in a bit of an identity crisis over what it wanted to be. The ending was also a bit of a stretch and appeared to tie up a little *too* nicely. I did really enjoy On A Quiet Street and would still be interested in checking out another title by the author, but this one was just a miss for me.

This was a fast-paced story, but lacked twists and suspense. The characters and multi-POV were ok, but overall the plot and especially the ending were lackluster.
I loved the first book I read by this author, so this may just not have connected with me personally. I will definitely check out her other work.
Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy!

This book had me hooked from the start! The three POVs worked perfectly, adding layers to the story and keeping the tension high. The mystery was well-crafted, and the eerie, suspenseful atmosphere made it impossible to put down. Every twist had me on edge, and I loved how the small-town setting played into the plot.
However, while this was a 5-star read for me for most of the book, the ending felt rushed. After such a gripping buildup, I wanted more time to process the reveal and its aftermath. It wrapped up too quickly, leaving me wishing for a bit more depth in the resolution.
That said, I definitely still recommend this one! The suspense, the twists, and the engaging characters make it a must-read for mystery and thriller fans.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I'm this wintry take, Shelby Dawson survived an attack that should have killed her. Fifteen months later, she’s rebuilding her life—until a note appears with the same threat her attacker made. Suddenly, she’s back in a nightmare that won’t let go. As strange accidents pile up and new evidence resurfaces, Shelby starts asking the same question as everyone else: Who attacked her that night? And what really happened to her best friend’s missing husband?
Going in, I expected a pulse-pounding thriller based on the style of cover, but what I got was something different—slower, cozier, and unexpectedly funny in places. The senior citizens who accidentally make Shelby’s case go viral were my favorite part. Their banter had the charm of a small-town sitcom, but their involvement in the mystery was surprisingly crucial. It gave the book a unique balance between dark suspense and lighthearted mischief.
That said, the pacing leans toward a slow burn, which might not work for readers expecting nonstop tension. The story takes its time unraveling, but if you enjoy mysteries that feel like a mix of Only Murders in the Building and small-town drama, this one might be for you.
Overall, this was a mystery that subverts expectations—less high-octane thriller, more small-town suspense with an endearing (and meddling) supporting cast. If you like your mysteries with a touch of cozy and a dash of dark humor, you’ll enjoy this one.

Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass is perfect for fans of The Thursday Murder Club & Only Murders in the Building. A gripping attack shocks a small-town in northern Minnesota and it’s only the beginning. As the story goes viral thanks to some well-intentioned seniors, the risk grows.
This was my first time reading one of author Seraphina Nova Glass’s works, but it certainly won’t be my last. Nothing Ever Happens Here pulled me in almost immediately when Shelby Dawson survives a harrowing attack and her best friend’s husband goes missing.
It has been fifteen months, no signs of Mackenzie’s husband Leo, but he has left her life in ruins. Shelby is finally returning to normal, that is until a note is left on her windshield and the trouble begins anew.
The tale unfolds brilliantly as I tried to make connections between the missing husband and the attack(s) on Shelby. A group of seniors who live at the Oleander that Shelby manages try to help through podcasts discussing the case, and it only creates more chaos.
I loved the characters, particularly the seniors led by Florence, who believe Detective Riley is useless. The story is told from three points of view and it kept me on edge. First, we have Shelby who it seems someone is threatening, then Mack (Mackenzie) who is looking for answers to Leo’s disappearance and unearthing scandals. The last is Florence from the Oleander, who gathers her posse of retired friends to investigate. They share their theories and discoveries on the podcast, which goes viral.
The tale was clever, well paced, with plenty of twists. Glass balances humor, terror and small-town life into the story and pulled me in. While I had my suspects, the author kept me guessing until the end.
An absolute page-turner, Nothing Ever Happens Here will hold you captive until the last line.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was an enjoyable, fast paced thriller! Told from three POV and with multiple mysteries happening at once, I was constantly guessing who did what and who could be trusted.
Best friends Shelby and Mackenzie have both endured a lot. Shelby was attacked and nearly died. Mackenzie’s husband went missing the same night. Fifteen months later anonymous threats are being placed and people are disappearing, or worse.
The absolute best part of this book was the sleuthing senior citizens. They live in a senior community but they are still living life to the fullest! They decide to use their podcast as a tool to help solve these mysteries. I love representation of older characters in books, and in a thriller it was absolutely amazing.

This book seriously messed with my head—in the best way. Shelby has already survived something terrifying, but just when she thinks she’s finally moving on, the past comes back swinging. Anonymous threats, weird accidents, and that creeping feeling that someone is watching her? Yeah, I was stressed right along with her.
I loved how real Shelby felt. She’s not some fearless heroine—she’s just trying to keep her life together, but you can feel her paranoia creeping in, and honestly, I don’t blame her. Her best friend Mackenzie adds even more drama, especially with all the shady stuff about her missing husband. I kept going back and forth trying to figure out if he was actually dead or if he had something to do with everything.
Also, the small-town vibes? Perfectly eerie. Everyone’s nosy, but no one actually knows what’s going on, and the whole thing just feels off in the best way. Plus, there’s this group of old ladies who accidentally make the case go viral, and I loved the mix of humor and tension there.
And the twists? I thought I had it figured out. I did not have it figured out. If you love thrillers that mess with your mind and keep you flipping pages way too late at night, you need to read this one.

If you love thrillers packed with shocking moments, close calls, and small-town secrets, Nothing Ever Happens Here is a must-read. Set in a snowy Minnesota town, this book delivers twist after twist, keeping you on edge every few chapters.
The multiple POVs make for an engaging read, allowing different perspectives to unravel the town’s icy threats and long-buried secrets. The characters are well-developed, with unexpected heroes emerging in surprising ways. Glass also weaves in a sly sense of humor, adding a layer of wit to the suspense.
Fast-paced, full of twists, and brimming with atmosphere, Nothing Ever Happens Here is a thriller that proves plenty does happen—even in the quietest of places.

I am a fan of Seraphina Nova Glass' work and when I heard about this one, I immediately added it to my tbr. This book was such a twisty, on the edge of your seat story. It pulled me in right from the very beginning. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next.

One winter night Shelby is attacked while leaving her friends café after a night out together. Just over a year later, her friend Mack has helped her get back to a point that feels almost normal, until she gets a threatening note on her car.. he did say that if she told anyone that he'd make everyone around her pay. Is her attacker back to finish what he started?
The premise was great and the book started on a high note for sure but it went downhill from there for me personally. While I could see character development, I didn't feel attached to any of the many many characters - the complete opposite actually, most of the characters got on my nerves, or worse, I couldn't remember anything we had been told about them. I found the red herrings fell a bit flat and the ending just seemed a bit unbelievable and outrageous. I was curious as to how it would wrap up so I did finish the book but overall I wasn't a huge fan.
Thank you to netgally and publisher for the review copy!

i wanted to like this SO BAD but it just gave me nothing sadly 💔
for the positives, i loved the whole gang of senior citizens and their dynamics were really fun and cute
however, it felt difficult to connect with the story and other characters early on since the book literally just jumps right in, and usually that’s a good thing in thrillers, but in this one it just left me feeling slightly unmoored the entire time
plot wise, it took ages for things to start happening, and the possibilities for how it could wrap up felt pretty limited. i honestly thought the book felt like it dragged out way too long, but then somehow the book is only 300 pgs?
just not my favorite unfortunately i think i wanted MORE

A tale of twists and turns with multiple POVs and a motley crew of old folks to solve it. A semi-climatic ending, but still a good thriller for a long road trip.

I was so intrigued at the beginning but someway, somehow it went south and I just ended not enjoying it. The only good thing are the old folks at the assisted living center.
The title is very fitting because literally nothing ever happened in this book.
Thanks to HTP books, The Hive, and NetGalley for this ARC. 🐝

I liked the setting and the characters in this one, in a town where nothing ever happens, until it does. Shelby and Mack are both compelling characters and the trials they go through are horrific. The ending was a bit predictable but overall the story was good. Will definitely read this author again.

I started reading this book last month, but had to put it down and take a break because the amount of characters was overwhelming. I couldn’t keep track of who was attacked, whose husband was missing, and didn’t feel like making a list of all the characters.
I decided to try listening to the audiobook and not care about the characters, but pay more attention to the storyline and this worked for me, although the narrator was quite boring and there were some bumps along the way.
I loved The Vacancy in Room 10 and had high hopes for this book but I found the story slow, repetitive, and the ending felt rather rushed. The only entertaining aspect of this book was the old people, they were fun.

We see the world through the eyes of Shelby, Mack (Mackenzie), and Florence. (which I love three view points in a story it helps keep the reader hooked but also gives a good multi layered view of the story without becoming too monotonous. The story starts with Shelby being attacked and thrown in a freezer and Mack's husband going missing but over a year later things start happening again. Meaning no one is truly safe until they figure out what went on over a year ago and what is still happening now.
The plot unfolded very nicely with more happening to keep the reader hooked. Without given too much away there are more crimes and deaths. Which really kept me reading towards to figure out what was going on.
Thank you, Graydon House and NetGalley for the digital ARC copy.

An interesting departure for this author! She has written dark suspense in the past but this was more an amateur detective/cozy story with Thursday Murder Club vibes. I was a little taken aback at first but overall really enjoyed this book and will read anything SNG writes!
