Nothing Ever Happens Here is the story of a small town and a woman who survived an attack. The same night as the attack her husband, Leo, goes missing. Now almost a year and a half later she finds clues that Leo is still alive and she is determined to find him. At the same time she is dealing with threats that will lead to an expected ending. This book is filled with twists and keeps you guessing. A truly thrilling read!
As soon as I heard that Seraphina Nova Glass had another book coming out, I knew immediately that I had to get my hands on it ASAP. So when I saw that those of us at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse had an exclusive to read it early? Well, I snapped it up quick. After all, she’s one of my favorite authors, as her thrillers are always packed with sublime characters, evocative settings, and unguessable twists. Let me tell you, Nothing Ever Happens Here had all of that and more. Unfurling with ratcheting suspense that easily kept me on the edge of my seat, I was utterly captivated from the first compelling page until the very last word.
As evidenced by Glass’s prior books, her biggest talent is creating eccentric, oddball characters and comedic yet drama-filled scenes. Just as I loved her rundown motel setting in The Vacancy in Room 10, the realistic yet unforgettable assisted living community was equally well done in Nothing Ever Happens Here. I mean, I could vividly see the gray-haired old dears bickering over Murder She Wrote until bad things began to occur. From there you can just imagine how the spunky protagonists got down to business in the hopes of stopping the evil doer in their tracks before even more dead bodies began to accrue.
All in all, Glass definitely managed to do it again. From the giggle-worthy humor to the pulse-pounding climax, this author knows just how to blend it all into one truly dynamite premise. Told via multiple POVs who made the book sing, the well-plotted storyline was addictive in the extreme. Was it on the edge of over-the-top? Well, yes…but only in the best possible way. So suspend your disbelief, plant yourself in your favorite reading spot, and get ready to meet some truly endearing personas as they take you on the ride of your life. Intense, humor-filled, twisty, and fun, you’re going to want to read this book as soon as it’s out in the world, no ifs, ands, or buts. Rating of 4 stars.
Thank you to Seraphina Nova Glass, Graydon House Books, Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse, and NetGalley for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Seraphina knows how to weave together a story so nicely!
🔥 edge of your seat thriller

So many characters, but once you get into the story you will come to love them all. Well, some of them might be rotten…but who? Loved this thriller!
Nothing Ever Happens Here captivated me from the start and kept me guessing throughout! As a big fan of twists within twists, I was pleasantly surprised when the story took an unexpected turn! I may have had to backtrack to be sure I read it right! Seraphina Nova Glass has remarkable technique for crafting relatable characters. They may seem like ordinary, nameless members of our collective communities, but her creative embellishments give them personality.
The inclusion of the retirement home residents gave this suspense thriller an edgy-cozy mystery vibe and I loved it! With the small-town setting, paired with the never-ending winter of the Midwest, provided the perfect atmospheric backdrop for this storyline. I’ve lived through many Midwest winters and felt the chill!
Nothing Ever Happens Here starts off with such intensity, my heart was racing in chapter 1. Chapter 2 upped the ante. There are many nail biting moments throughout but they are counter balanced with this amazing group of senior citizen armchair detectives. They seriously stole the show and I'd love to see them again.
This is only my second book by this author and I definitely need to get my hands on the backlist.
I loved the characters in this book! The senior citizens were so just great and lovable. I loved the mystery and following along to see where it went. A great book.
Can I just say how much I LOVE stories from my home state?! I worked at a bakery here in Minnesota, and we had this group of retirees and veterans that would come in for coffee and chats every morning. They brightened my day so much, and I think about them often. This book brought me back to those mornings with our coffee crew. They were my favorite part about this book!
In true Seraphina fashion, she hooks you after the first chapter. The beginning had me feeling sooo anxious and eager for more. I highly recommend going in blind - because that first scene is so much more anxiety inducing if you don't know what's going to happen!
It's been fifteen months since Shelby Dawson survived an attack that almost left her dead. She's finally starting to feel safe again in her smalltown of Minnesota, and then a letter shows up on her windshield. It makes the same threats her attacker made all those months ago. When new evidence about Shelby's case emerges and a group of well-meaning senior citizens takes it upon themselves to open their own investigation that goes viral online, people around Shelby start to get hurt. Meanwhile, Shelby's best friend Mack, whose husband mysteriously disappeared the same night of Shelby's attack, has questions of her own she's investigating. Her husband had hidden accounts, racked up debts, and mismanaged their money. Now Mack also suspects he may be alive.
Grab your cozy blanket and settle in because once you start this book, you will not want to put it down. Between Shelby's attacker, a missing husband, and meddling seniors, my head was reeling. I absolutely loved the smalltown setting of this one and the fact that I had zero clue of who the suspect was. Usually, I have a guess or two, but this time, I was completely in the dark, and when it was revealed, I was floored. I loved Florence and the meddling seniors. Not only did they bring some needed comic relief at times, but they were so kindhearted, caring, and heartwarming. This mystery kept me riveted until the very end!

I will ALWAYS sign up for something Seraphina writes. Her last 2 books were amazing, so of course so was this one!
It was twisty, suspenseful, funny, with a down-home real life feel.
The dialog is so relatable, I found myself laughing out loud because I could actually picture my friends of family having these discussions.
The characters are hilarious, especially the witty banter between the senior citizens.
The setting felt like home to me; upper Midwest in winter time. And the uses of Midwest references, ie "chipped beef" turkey hot dish, fruit jello mold - just completed it for me.
I fell mostly in love the senior citizens podcast /vodcast armchair detectives and their dialog. Them trying to solve the murders of their friend Otis, attempted murder of boss; Shelby, as well as disappearance of her friends husband Leo starts to get a little hairy at the end. BUT, I definitely had a few suspects in mind, but I was wrong about who it was ultimately.
This was another great whodunit by @seraphinanovaglass , thank you again for this early review opportunity!

Thank you to the author and publisher for giving us at Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse the opportunity to read this one early. #thrillerbooklovers #thepulse #exclusive Seraphina’s books have the most gorgeous covers! I mean, they are so completely eye catching I can’t help but want to read them.
A group of endearing seniors create a podcast to try and solve the mystery of who attacked Shelby, the manager of the senior community where they live, the Oleander. With lots of dialogue and snarky banter between the residents, I found myself chuckling at their personalities throughout the story. There are plenty of nail biting and WTF moments happening for a town where “Nothing Ever Happens Here.” This book will suck you in from the very beginning all the way through the ending, which left me shocked and unsettled. There was plenty of mystery to fill this book and I couldn’t wait get to the bottom of it all.
If all the books coming out in 2025 are as good as this one, we are in for one fantastic year of reading! I am literally doing a happy dance. This one had me at the edge of my seat. Chills sliding down my spine and not just from the below freezing temps brought on by the Minnesota winters. The characters were phenomenally crafted. I loved them all, well except for the bad guy of course. It is told from multiple points of view. Each delving into the mystery and producing new angles and suspects. There are so many twists and turns I feel like I just stepped off a rollercoaster.
A year ago, Shelby's life changed. She stepped into her friend Mack's bakery and there was a man there. Someone she thought she knew, but maybe not. He locked her in the walk-in freezer and left. Her two little girls, asleep in the running car as snowflakes drifted from the dark sky. From that night on Shelby has been plagued with panic attacks. Her best friend Mack's husband disappears right around that some time. No one has heard from him. Is he dead? Does he have another family? Where did he go? Could he be linked to Shelby's horrifying night? All these questions begin to resurface as weird occurrences and deaths begin to happen. Making for The Gang at retirement home feel like they need to get to the bottom of it and fast.
Everyone in The Gang is the stars of this book. I alternated between laughing, gasping in shock, and tearing up. As this fearsome group take on the unknown. Willing to put themselves in danger to help Mack and Shelby. This is really a story about friends that are truly family. It reminds me of my own rural small town. Where nothing ever happens and when it does you better watch out. Thank you to Seraphina Nova Glass, Graydon House, and Thriller Book Lovers the Pulse for my gifted copy of this twisty mystery.
Actual Rating: 3.5⭐
This is my first book by this author so I’m quite excited to start reading this after hearing good things about the author’s previous books.
Told from multiple POVs of Shelby, Mack and Florence – we get to see different side of how the investigation unfold. So many characters means a lot of suspects as well.
I admit it was hard to guess the culprit so I was totally surprised when I read the big reveal.
It took me a while to get hooked into the story cause there’s a lot of characters that I need to keep track of which sometimes confuse me cause I can't remember them fast enough.
But, after I finally remember the key players it was easy to enjoy the flow of the story.
The last few chapters are quite intense and it also where the last unexpected twist takes place. I was really surprised with how this book ends, I didn’t see it coming at all.
Overall, it's a very good cozy small town mystery.
This book won’t be the last time I read by this author, I’m looking forward to read more books by this author in the future.

Nothing ever happens in a small town, right? Think again. Shelby Dawson survives a harrowing attack that should have left her dead. She has some physical scars, but the mental ones run much deeper. More than a year later, she's finally feeling safe again in her small Minnesota town, thanks in part to the support of her good friend Mackenzie. Her illusion of safety is shattered when an anonymous note appears on her windshield bearing the same threats her attacker made.
When new evidence comes to light, it goes viral, thanks to the most unlikely group of crime capers you will ever find, a group of senior citizens. How do they come into play? How is all of this connected? You won't believe the layers of mystery interspersed with both witty dialogue and a warmth lacking in many thrillers.
Thank you so much to Graydon House Books for the early read. At the time this review was written, this title was expected to publish February 11, 2025.
When I saw Seraphina was releasing a new book, I couldn’t start it fast enough! Her books are meant to be devoured and that is just what I did! She can craft a twisty tale with some dark topics. Nothing Ever Happens Here starts with a bang and refuses to let up. I love the way the POV alternates and each chapter ends with such a cliffhanger! And while you’re on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out what is going on, you are surprised with some light humor. The residents at the senior living facility were hilarious, raw and relatable! I loved the breaks in tension with them! This was a fun, fast-paced read that I think fans of Seraphina’s work will definitely enjoy!
I’ve been on a full-blown Seraphina Nova Glass bender this month - I tore through this and then (finally!) listened to ON A QUIET STREET and then SOMEONE’S LISTENING, and I can officially call myself an SNG superfan. I also loved her last book (VACANCY IN ROOM 10) and think she just keeps getting better and better.
She’s found such a sweet spot between truly harrowing situations + flawed, snarky female protagonists (my favorite!) + a light touch of hilarious banter amongst groups of eccentric weirdos. I love her.
Highly recommend for existing SNG fans and anyone looking for a fast-paced, twisty thriller with humor and heart.
A little over a year ago, Shelby survived a terrifying attack on the same night her best friend Mack’s husband Leo goes missing. Mack is still trying to figure out what happened to Leo, praying that he would never hurt Shelby and that the timing is just a coincidence. When Shelby starts receiving sinister messages, she realizes her attacker is still out there and her nightmare is far from over. Meanwhile, an intrepid group of senior citizens at The Oleander senior housing where Shelby works have decided to investigate, accidentally making the case go viral. Now Shelby and the Ole Gang need to find the culprit before someone else gets hurt – or worse.
This book grabbed me right from the start with the intense scene of Shelby’s attack and took me on a rollercoaster ride until the very end! I absolutely adore Seraphina’s writing style and the way she so perfectly sets the scene. The wintry Minnesota small-town atmosphere is on point, with mentions of ice fishing, hotdishes, and meat raffles sprinkled into the prose. The plot is intricate and action-packed, and I’m in awe of how this dark and twisty tale was infused with a bit of lightness and humor, making it feel a little cozy despite some scary scenes. Best of all are the characters, especially the Ole Gang. Just like the pool ladies in The Vacancy in Room 10, a charming cast of supporting characters adds so much to this story. I love a great senior character, and here we get a whole group of wily, resourceful, funny, and determined senior sleuths! No wonder all of my friends at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse are buzzing about this one! Add this one to your early 2025 TBR!
What a cozy little mystery this turned into. I was immediately invested from chapter one. I loved playing detective during this adventure. This gang of misfit residents who start a podcast to help solve these crimes make for a great whodunnit.
👏🏻👏🏻
I really enjoyed this book! My second by Seraphina Nova Glass and it did not disappoint.
There are lots of characters in this book and a lot going on- one mystery after another - and the action starts immediately in chapter one!
Shelby is almost killed after accidentally witnessing a crime, and the same night, her best friend’s husband goes missing. Skip forward fifteen months, and everyone is trying to rebuild their lives, but also seeking answers, and Shelby begins feeling targeted again.
Every single chapter ends on a cliffhanger which I absolutely loved, and I loved the multiple POV especially Florence, and I loved the little gang of elderly friends that live in the senior center that Shelby runs.
Thanks so much to the author, Graydon Books, Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse for the Exclusive, and NetGalley for my ARC! Pub date 02.11.25
Thank you @seraphinanovaglass @graydonhousebooks for my complimentary book in exchange for an honest review.
This dark tale was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed it. She has a beautifully descriptive writing style that draws the reader into the story and fleshes out the characters. With a compelling plot and a cast of likable characters, this is more than a psychological thriller; it is also a tale of friendship and dedication. I especially enjoyed the senior citizens and their creativity. That being said, there were a lot of characters and I had to make a few notes to keep them straight.
This book was so enjoyable! There’s something to be said about a thriller with lots of twists and turns that also has some humor sprinkled in. I loved the Oleander residents (aka “the gang”) so much! Picture a group of retirement home residents deciding to start a true crime podcast to try to help someone they care about. Their antics had me laughing out loud! There were plenty of more serious and edge of the seat moments in this book as well to balance things out. I read Nothing Ever Happens Here in a matter of hours because I was dying to see what would happen next!
