There are very few authors that can get me to enjoy an accidental pregnancy trope, and what a surprise…Devney is one of them. To be honest though, I’d read her grocery list if she published it.

Sunlight takes us back to Haven River Ranch and follows Sasha and Jax. Our main characters meet during a scuffle at the grocery store, and Jax can’t seem to understand why Sasha won’t take him up on his offer for a date, until he realizes she’s the new manager of the resort at his ranch. Her plan to ignore him was working out well, until one too many drinks at the annual holiday party. I think you know where this is going. 🤰🏼

I couldn’t get enough of Crossroads, so I was so happy to be back in this world with these characters. It’s such a feel good book, and a perfect listen. The narrators truly added to the experience for me.

I was lucky enough to receive an ALC of Sunlight by Devney Perry. This is book #2 in the Haven River Ranch series.

I received the first book in this series, Crossroads in my montly book box a few months back and really enjoyed it. It was my first foray into cowboy romance and I’m definitely here for it!

In Crossroads, we followed the story of Indy and Wes, while in Sunlight, we follow the story of Jax, co-owner of Haven River Ranch and Wes’ younger brother, and Sasha, the new girl in town.

Sasha is already on shaky ground moving to Montana from California, but when her first excursion into town results in a little scuffle at the local grocery store, she really starts questioning why she came here. Her apartment is less than ideal and now she is arguing with the owner of the store over a grocery cart. Before Sasha completely gives up, she spies the most handsome man she’s ever seen. The two get to talking and are really hitting it off, so much so that he asks her out on a date. But as soon as he tells her his name is Jax Haven, she had to turn him down and scurry away. After all, as the owner of Haven River Ranch, Jax isn’t her boss, but he wasn’t NOT her boss either.

Sasha spends the next several months trying to ignore Jax exists, but is not very successful. I mean, he’s completely gorgeous and charming and if looks could kill, he’d be the grim reaper in a cowboy hat and faded Wrangler jeans!

Then, at the annual holiday party, Sasha lets her guard down and her - and Jax’s life - change forever.

When reading this book, you can expect:
Small town
Cowboy romance
Forced proximity
Grumpy FMC
Mental health rep
Found family
Forbidden romance
He falls first
Friends to lovers

Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Denver Perry for selecting me for this ALC. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next chapter of the Haven River Ranch series!

Devney Perry must have some magic in her writing because once I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down. I devoured it in less than 24 hours, and now I already wish I could read it again for the first time.

Her characters and the worlds she creates are so vivid and real. Haven River Ranch feels like one of my favorite places, and I genuinely wish it existed so I could go visit. I feel such a close connection to the characters in this book and in book one!

Every emotion hit me while reading this. I could imagine being best friends with Sasha—she’s hilarious, and I love her sense of humor. Jax reminds me so much of my significant other—deeply loving and a worrier, even when it’s not necessary. The "tell me a lie / tell me a secret" theme tugged at my heartstrings every time it came up. Honestly, I cried a lot, and it's because I could feel the love pouring through the pages, no matter what the characters were facing.

I could talk about these characters for forever. I’ll be recommending this book to all my friends. And even though accidental pregnancy isn't usually a favorite trope of mine, Devney Perry makes it work—Sasha and Jax completely won me over!

One of my favorite parts of being introduced to prospective love interests is their first meeting, and Sasha and Jax have a meet cure that leaves an undeniable impression. New to town and without transportation, Sasha is accused of attempting to steal a grocery cart from the local market (she was just borrowing it!), and in swoops Jax Haven to save the day with his good looks and effortless charm. *cue major swooning* The two strangers have an easy rapport along with an instant chemistry, but an unexpected connection between them puts a quick end to their would-be romance. But little does Jax know that the woman who piqued his interest is the new manager at Haven River Ranch, bringing them together in close quarters, thus putting Sasha on guard, and wary of potential scandal with her new employer…

Months of growing tension working alongside each other has created a dynamic between Jax and Sasha that’s equal parts attraction and antagonism, and it all comes to a head when one night of unparalleled passion results in unexpected consequences. With a baby on the way, the two have to put aside their differences to figure out their future, and whether or not that includes a potential romance between them.

Primarily a character-driven narrative, what makes Sunlight such a captivating, swoon-worthy read is the slow-building relationship between two such contrasting personalities. Jax is upfront, wearing his emotions on his sleeves, while Sasha is locked up tight, mysterious and guarded (even from readers), and reluctant to lower her defenses. The process of them opening up to each other, and chipping away at their emotional barriers is long and painstaking, and filled with obstacles, but their romance is so sweet and heartfelt (and steamy, let’s be honest) that you can’t help but root for them as a couple.

At its heart, Sunlight is a story about love and connection, whether romantic or familial. It’s about two individuals going through life, knowing there’s something essential that’s missing, and recognizing in each other the potential to fill in that missing puzzle piece, even if it means embarking on a new and unexpected journey. Sunlight is another must-read romance from Devney Perry, that’s impossible to put down once you get started, and I can’t recommend it enough!

Warming your heart, just like a ray of Sunlight, nobody does unexpected pregnancy books quite like Devney. If you’re looking for the perfect small town, cowboy romance that’ll make you YEE-HAW, this is it. WHEW!! Infinite stars.

Audiobook: 10/10 for the narration—brilliantly done! I could listen to Stephen Dexter & Ava Erickson narrate any book.

I loved the first book in this series Crossroads. I didn't love this one as much, but I still found it a great read. The characters came with their own baggage, then one hot night turned into how are we going to co-parent? I'm happy they found their way for a beautiful HEA.
Thank you, Devney and NetGalley, for the ALC. The audio was spot on!

Man I couldn't put this one down I was instantly sucked in.

Book 2 is set 5 YEARS after Crossroads! So there is lots of growth and family and the ranch is growing! So much so that a new manager is brought in to help Indy delegate and Sasha arrives at Haven River Ranch. With the cutest meet-cute, Sasha and Jax are instantly drawn to each other. But when she finds out that he's technically her boss, she puts a full stop to her feelings - or she tries to anyway.

As their environment and work brings them into each other's orbits time and time again, they can't help but end up crashing into each other. Jax can't help but be drawn to the elusive creature that is Sasha while she is doing her best to keep her distance and not form attachments as her past and responsibilities as to why she is in Montana in the first place weigh heavily on her.

As they fall for each other, Jax is SWOONY! He never gives up on her and sees just how special she is from day one. He gives her the grace and space she needs to really open up, allow herself to be vulnerable and eventually make her love living in Montana. In turn, Sasha is so boggled down by her past that she's too scared to truly live in her present and allow herself to dream of her future. With Jax's help, Sasha learns to let down her guard and rely on him. They compliment each other so well and bring out the best in each other while helping the other heal from their pasts. They make each other better and that's what we all hope for when we choose our partners! They are beautiful and their love story was perfection!

Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson did wonderfully on this title. They brought out so much personality in these characters that I am not sure I would've truly felt or seen had I not heard it in their performances. I haven't listened to a Stephen Dexter title in months and man it was such a great title to hear him on - what a great performance!

Ooooooo I can't wait for a HOPEFULLY book 3!!

This book was even better than the first and I gave Crossroads five stars too!
I'm obsessed with these characters and I absolutely loved their story!
Just everything about Sasha had me wanting to cry and want the best for her.
And I may have foamed at the mouth for Jax and his dirty spicy scenes!
So happy with the HEA, a perfect ending for this perfect couple.
I won't give any spoilers but it was so sweet and I loved it so much!!
Thank you so much to Valentine PR, Devney Perry and NetGalley for this ALC.

honestly, devney can do no wrong.

jax haven is a new favorite. the way he is so patient and loving and understanding with sasha. the way he is such a loyal friend to those around him. the way this man just cares.

i love this book so much. it was exactly what i needed. a heroine with a mysterious past. a cowboy that can rock a baseball hat or a cowboy hat and is so down bad for the fmc.

the audio was done so well!! it was the perfect way for me to reread it and may or may not have reread it a couple times 🤭

Devney Perry actually never misses!! Omg I loved this book so much and this might actually be my favorite book of hers. Like I am actually obsessed. Accidental pregnancy is one of my favorite tropes, I will always eat it up and this one was done so well. I loved all the banter and how down bad Jax was for Sasha.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

✨accidental pregnancy
✨boss/employee
✨forced proximity

This is book 2 in the Haven River Ranch series and follows Jax and Sasha.

The story picks up a few years after the end of the 1st book, so West and xxx have settled down and had some kids, whilst Jax, who was such a playboy in book 1 has grown up and is determined to win Sasha over.
Sasha will not be swayed by her tempting boss, not when she desperately needs this job. However a fun night together leads to a positive test, and Sasha has to come around to the idea real fast that Jax isn’t going anywhere.

That meet cute was meet cutin’ hard!!! The boss/employee trope is tied and tested but when they’ve had an encounter prior to knowing who each other is, its fabulous.

Oh I love me a cocky cowboy who smirks🤭🤭🤭 Jax was into Sasha from the moment he met her and it showed. He was determined to win her over no matter how hard Sasha tried to keep him out. He was caring and gentle with her as they navigated the pregnancy together. His own challenges with his parents were reflected in his concerns about being a parent and being there for Sasha, but he showed up everyday for her. Sasha came into town as a bit of a mystery, and it becomes apparent that she’s hiding something which is the reason why her walls are built so high. She’s fiercely independent even to her detriment sometimes. Opening up and letting Jax help her was one the biggest challenges Sasha could face, but he proves that at Haven River Ranch, you’re family.

I love an accidental pregnancy where you see the couple come together to become better versions of themselves, which I think Devney does exceptionally well.

Thanks to Devney and @valentine_pr_ for the ALC!

3.75⭐️ rounded to 4! Back in haven river ranch & I am so happy! I forgot how enticing Devney’s writing is & how easily she pulls you into her stories.

I was awaiting Jax’s story after Crossroads & this was pretty good. I loved the angst & pull this story had. While some people don’t like surprise pregnancy as a trope in romance novels, I actually do so this was right up my alley.

You could feel the chemistry of these two from the moment they met & Jax was sooo sweet to Sasha even though she had so many walls up. The slow run of her walls coming down was a struggle for me. I wanted her to open up so much sooner to Jax. I think this was one that I didn’t love the secret but totally understand it?if that makes sense. I really loveddd the lies and secrets and seeing old characters💕 Jax is the most swoony protective mmc & I love it.

I found myself feeling like not much was happing though as the story went on. We have a 7 year time jump from the first book in this series & I thought that was so fun and enjoyable to see where the characters were now—but the time jumps within this book were a problem for me. For a surprise pregnancy book, I totally understand that in order for you to make it the whole 9 months there has to be time jumps—but I didn’t feel like Sasha and Jax had enough time to connect. There needed to be more. I wanted more from the entire story.

🎧I really loved the audiobook of this one! Ava did so good at portraying the emotions Sasha felt throughout the entire book. I feel like moments were hard to understand when Jax was speaking. But overall, it was well done. 4/5🎙️

☁️ surprise pregnancy

🌸 spicy! 2.5/5🔥

Thank you Valentine PR, netgalley, & Devney for this gifted alc 🫶🏼

Sunlight is the second book in the Haven River Ranch series. This book is about Jax and Sasha and is told from both of their points of view.

One thing I love about Devney Perry books is how the characters meet. In this book they meet over trouble with a shopping cart. Sasha wants to borrow a shopping cart to get her groceries home, and the employee wants nothing to do with it. Jax comes in to rescue the day.

When Sasha realizes Jax is one of the owners of where her new job is she knows she needs to stay away from him. However, one night changes everything.

I loved the banter between these two characters, as well reading their story. They have things thrown at them, but they work together to get through it. I can't wait to read what's next in this series!

I adored this book and this series is already showing that it’s going to be great! I actually listened to the audio for this book and thought it was fantastic! The female narrator could have done both male and female for the entire book and I still would have loved it. She is great!
Cannot wait to see where this series goes, definitely going to be another favorite!

Tell me a lie. Tell me a secret.

I loved this book so so much. I devoured the audiobook in a day because I just couldn't stop listening to it. I thought Ava Erickson and Stephen Dexter were perfect for this story. I am a huge Ava Erickson fan, but I haven't listened to Stephen Dexter much, but that will definitely change.

Sasha was only staying in Montana for a short time. She was covering for Indya while she is on maternity leave. She meets Jax at the grocery store when he assists her with her groceries and asks her out. Then she finds out his name and while he isn't directly her boss while she is working at the ranch, he isn't not her boss either. So, she declines, and they go about their separate ways.

Sasha does her best to avoid Jax at all costs, but they keep getting thrown together. But things really change after the annual holiday party, and they realize they can't stay away from each other anymore. And then Sasha ends up pregnant.

Now these two have to navigate a whole new situation, while Sasha is dealing with some personal demons of her owns.

I just loved how Jax was with Sasha, and he went all in when she discovered she was pregnant. I am not sure if there will be more books in this series, but I really hope there will be.

The return to Haven River Ranch is finally here and it was everything I needed! But first things first, am I actually a fan of the accidental pregnancy trope? This is probably the third book I’ve read with that trope lately and I’ve been eating it up!

Sasha and Jax were total opposites. Their relationship was the epitome of golden retriever and black cat vibes. I loved them together and I loved their banter. The mutual pining and forced proximity was fantastic.

I thought this book was so well done and I swear if Devney writes it, I’m gonna read it. Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson also slayed this audio.

As we returned to Haven River Ranch, I found myself completely engrossed in the captivating world painted by the author. The story unfolds in a small town's picturesque setting, where Jax and Sasha's heartfelt romance takes center stage. From their mesmerizing first meeting to the profound emotional depth of their characters, I was truly spellbound. The accidental pregnancy element was seamlessly integrated into the narrative, resonating deeply with my emotions. I believe that anyone who picks up this book will be entranced by Sasha and Jax's journey, as well as the compelling found family dynamic.

The audiobook was a sensory delight! The dual narration by Ava Erickson and Stephen Dexter was a perfect match for the characters of Sasha and Jax. Ava's soothing tone skillfully brought out the complexities of Sasha's character, expertly portraying her blend of rigidity and vulnerability as she adapted to her new life in Montana. On the other hand, Stephen's rich, resonant voice flawlessly embodied Jax's energetic, charismatic, and protective nature. The palpable chemistry between the characters was vividly brought to life by the narrators, effectively conveying the tension and yearning that permeated the story.
