4.5 stars ⭐️ Sunlight is the second book in the Haven River Ranch series. Jax Haven met Sasha when she was stealing a cart from the grocery store, because she couldn’t handle all of her grocery bags. Sasha is the new manager of the ranch, and Jax is one of the owners. One night, Sasha relaxed and after trying to ignore Jax from their first meeting, she couldn’t deny their chemistry. Come a couple months later, Sasha is pregnant. Jax is a playboy, but he didn’t pursue anyone since he met Sasha. He loved her since the shopping cart incident. He immediately called their child Josephine the moment he found out Sasha was pregnant. Sasha was a harder character to get to know. She was closed off and prickly. Jax was able to break through her walls. There were different subplots that took away time from Sasha and Jax, but one was setting up the next book in the series. The other subplot was an integral part of Sasha’s backstory that needed to be told. I wanted to know about her sooner, but that wouldn’t have been part of her characterization. The chemistry was there and Jax was a great hero! I enjoyed seeing Indy and West, seven years after their book ended. I enjoyed the growth we saw in Jax’s parents. I enjoyed Sunlight, but ultimately, I loved Crossroads!

Tropes:
- accidental pregnancy
- forced proximity
- small town
- cowboy romance

CW: death of parents off page, domestic violence off page (not MMC or MFC), family drama

Thank you to Devney Perry, Valentine PR, and Netgalley for the ALC! Ava Erickson and Stephen Dexter were perfect!

Wow! Devney has done it again!

We are back in Haven River Ranch after seven years and we now get to hear Jax’s story.

He meets Sasha at a grocery store and it turns out that she’s going to be the new ranch manager while Indya is on maternity leave.

We watched these two beat around the bush for far too long before they accidentally become pregnant

We get to see them get through their own fears of life while working together to figure out how to be the best parents they can be .

The story was so heartfelt and sweet and just what was needed to finish out this duet.

I was so lucky to listen to this on audio and it was perfection! Cannot recommend enough!

Wow I really didn’t want to put this one down. Luckily I got the ALC and didn’t have to!
Jax is the cowboy we all love to read about. I loved that we got to see their relationship progress from the very beginning and grow into something so beautiful. I was hanging onto every little crumb of interaction we got from them.
Another little mystery aspect woven into the story as well. Devney really knows how to keep me hooked. I must know what happens and every single detail along the way is so worth it.
She builds beautiful relationships. Whether that be familial, romantic, or friendly, I love how each is formed and portrayed.
I was chomping at the bits for West and Indya content. We got bits here and there. And she fully delivered on crumbs for future books as well. I cannot wait to see (and read) what’s coming!
The audio for this book is amazing! For sure the way to read if you enjoy audiobooks. I wouldn’t have rather done it any other way.
Thank you Devney Perry and Valentine PR for the ALC

After absolutely loving *Crossroads* (Book 1) and eagerly anticipating my return to Haven River Ranch, *Sunlight*unfortunately didn’t meet my expectations. I struggled to connect with the characters this time. Despite their traumatic pasts and the difficulties they faced, I found it hard to relate to them on an emotional level. The emotions in the story, while present, didn’t move me as much as I had hoped.

That being said, Devney Perry’s talent as a writer still shines through. Her writing is as beautiful as ever, and there were several passages that I really enjoyed. It’s hard to read one of her books without appreciating her skill in creating vivid settings and tender moments. The epilogue, in particular, was very sweet and added a nice touch to the story. Though this wasn’t my favorite, I’m still excited to see where she takes the series next.

Sasha was too insecure hiding things while jax was telling her his secrets and hoping to have a relationship with her. There wasnt enough communication and Sasha wanted to hide the pregnancy from everyone because she didn't like how they created the child.Jax is caring friendly and helpful and cheerful while Sasha is grumpy.
Sasha secret was his brother Eddie, who was in a school for trouble kids and how she took care of him when he was seven and she was 18 after her parent die. Lily was the hardest to like because the way he treated jack and jack wanted a lom and liky would correct him to call her lily that broke my heart for him.
i love the narrators love their voices and the emotions they brought to the table. I just wanted a better plot to the book.

3.5 stars. Sunlight is a cowboy romance with an accidental pregnancy, set in a small town, has forced proximity, and is a workplace romance (he’s her boss)!

I loved Crossroads, the first book in this series, so I definitely had high hopes for this one. While I didn’t end up loving this one as much, it’s still a solid release. Jax Haven has shares/is part co-owner of his family’s Haven River Ranch, alongside his brother and sister-in-law (the couple of the first book). The new manager at the ranch is Sasha and when she needs a place to live, she’s invited to stay in one of the guest houses on property…right across from Jax!

This takes place 7 years after the first book, so it was nice seeing all the time pass. We definitely get a lot of glimpses into how West and Indya are doing! After an emotional night leads to a hookup, Sasha realizes she’s pregnant and her and Jax figure out how to handle it all together. I’m good with surprise pregnancy stories, usually Devney has always delivered on these in the past. But there are just a lot of additional plots added on to this story that I honestly just wasn’t as invested in with these characters. They sadly just never pulled me in.

I had an audio ALC of this one and also had a difficult time with the hero’s narration (sometimes the voice sounded too juvenile/the way a kid would talk or something and it took me out). All thoughts in this review are my own.

Thank you Valentine PR for this ALC!

Aaahhh, I don't know which book I like more - Crossroads or Sunlight. I was super intrigued about Jax and Sasha from the epilogue of Crossroads and this exceeded my expectations! Loved listening to this story.

The audiobook narrators did an amazing job - every voice for different characters was distinct and enhanced my listening experience. The dialogue was clear, the emotions were seeped in their voices and I just had a good time. I listened to this audiobook in basically a sitting and the narration was a contributing factor.

The story itself was so breathtakingly poignant but uplifting at the same time. I didn't particularly care for the surprise pregnancy trope but Devney Perry did a spectacular job - it did not seem contrived or icky. It just seemed so realistic and raw. There were also so many sensitive topics and complex family dynamics which I felt were handled so well and respectfully.

In a similar vein with Crossroads, Devney Perry convinced me again of how beautiful Montana is with her writing. Such rich imagery and language made me fall in love with a place that I've never been too lol (which I guess makes Jax succeed in his goal).

My personal favourite moment was how Jax "got" Sasha, and their little game of telling each other a story and lie. That was too freaking cute.

The only thing I wished was different was if there were more scenes showing how the main leads fell in love - there were a couple of time jumps which were a bit jarring so I would've loved to hear more about their connection.

Would read/listen again.

I was so excited to read Jax and Sasha’s story! I absolutely love the atmosphere Devney created with this duet. It’s the epitome of small town cowboys with dirty mouths and big….hearts! Jax and Sasha’s meet cute was one of my favorite scenes. It reminded me of a little boy with his first crush. It was adorable. Their push and pull is sexy, fun and frustrating. All the components of a fantastic F it moment! I love the family elements and Jax’s relationship with Lily, it’s been a question since book 1 for me, and we get answers that are honest and real. I really loved the mystery surrounding Sasha and this Eddie she writes too. I love a good mystery element! Overall this book was sweet, sexy, funny and just relatable! (West is still my #1 though!)

Devney Perry's latest installment in the Haven River Ranch series, featuring Jax and Sasha, is a captivating and emotional read. Fans of the series will be delighted to return to this beloved setting and reconnect with familiar characters.

From the outset, it's clear that Jax and Sasha have a connection. As they navigate their relationship, their vulnerability and openness with one another are both heartwarming and inspiring. I love when they ask each other "Tell me a secret..." or "Tell me a lie."

The subplot, which keeps readers guessing until the very end, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story.

Perry's vivid descriptions bring Haven River Ranch to life, making it feel like a real place. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the audiobook narration by Steven Dexter and Ava Erickson is exceptional. Their performances perfectly capture the emotions of the story, making it an enjoyable listening experience.

Overall, Sunlight is a beautifully written and emotionally satisfying novel that will leave readers feeling uplifted and hopeful. It's a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and anyone looking for a heartwarming story about love, healing, and found family.

Thank you to Devney Perry, NetGalley, Brilliance Audio, and Valentine PR for the ALC of this audiobook. I voluntarily read it and gave an honest review.

Another binge worthy romance from Devney Perry 🙌🏻

*Accidental pregnancy. Workplace romance. Small town. Cowboy.*

I devoured this story & loved being back at Haven River Ranch! I love an accidental pregnancy, and Devney writes them so very well.

I loved learning more backstory for Jax & Sasha after meeting them in book one. So many sweet & swoony moments, like: “Tell me a lie”, “Tell me a secret”, (when you read you’ll understand what I mean).

Lots of heart wrenching and heart warming family moments.

Absolutely dreamy Montana snapshots, that made my itch to visit there even more.

So much great setup for the next book 🙌🏻

Thank you to Valentine PR for the chance to read an advance copy!

What happens when you let loose for one night? Great things! I fell in love with Jax in Crossroads and loved him even more in Sun Light! Taking place 6 years later Jax is still up to his play boy ways until Sasha comes into town to help Haven River Ranch.

Sasha holds her secrets close to home while Jax is trying desperately to break down her walls. Slowly, ever so slowly, he wiggles his way into Sasha's heart while they manage to come together during their pregnancy.

While another event leads them to finally come together these two were made for one another and change each other forever. I loved them and the ending was perfection!

🎧ALC Review🎧

Book: Sunlight
Author: Devney Perry
Pub Date: Oct 15/24
Publisher: Brilliance Publishing/Brilliance Audio
Narrators: Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson

How nice to be back at Haven River Ranch! I love the cozy, small town, cowboy romance vibes of this series and I was excited to finally dive into Jax’s character in Sunlight!

Jax had been through so much that was completely out of his control, and it was so heartbreaking to hear how it impacted him. Give me a broken hero and I’m going to love him 100% of the time. I loved how he was so into Sasha from the moment they met, their banter was fun and their chemistry was obvious. Both characters worked on themselves and their communication throughout the book, Sasha in particular had to learn to let Jax in. I love to see characters who make you believe they can go the distance. There were some really swoon worthy moments between Sasha and Jax too. I loved them asking one another to “Tell me a lie?” and “Tell me a secret”🥰

I hope there are more books at Haven River Ranch, but in the mean time I’ll be reading Devney Perry’s backlist!

🎧The narration by Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson was so good! I thought Stephen Dexter was the perfect voice for Jax and I’ll definitely be looking up more from him.

Devney Perry really knows how to do the surprise pregnancy perfectly. I devoured this audio within a day, not being able to turn it off. The flow & emotional undercurrent of this story really hooked me.

The characters Devney Perry writes are so interesting and have such hidden depths to them that are breadcrumbed over the course of the story. It's not just the Jax & Sasha show but the supporting characters add so much to understanding our MCs. Sasha is pretty closed off at the beginning, focused solely on her job (and the reason why she's in Montana - no spoilers here). But as she allows herself to open up to Jax, she is so much more than someone who is scared to get their heart broken.

Jax is a swoony MMC. He's the funny, life-of-the-party guy but there's so much more to him that plays out. The banter between him & Sasha is top-tier. I love the way he falls hard & fast. And how he supports Sasha - such golden retriever energy with some alpha in the bedroom. Another top-book boyfriend.

The chemistry between Jax & Sasha is instant but there is a slow burn to their relationship that had me cheering for the moments when they both give in. I absolutely loved Jax and how he knew how to approach his big feelings for Sasha without scaring her. It is such a wonderful love story that unfolds with a lot more nuances that are helped by Jax's friends & family. And the surprised pregnancy is done perfectly here - no notes. Absolutely loved every moment of this trope.

🎧 I listened to this one and the dual narration by Stephen Dexter & Ava Erickson brought this story to life. Absolutely LOVED their performances.

This story seems to tie up Haven River Ranch but I do hope we get to go back because I love this fictional place and all the people in it.

A great read. I really enjoyed going back to Haven River Ranch after reading Crossroads. It’s my favorite when authors bring you back in an interconnected standalone. You get cameos from previous characters and see where they are in their lives as well.

I’m someone who enjoys the pregnancy trope, so this was a good read. I enjoyed the mystery of her family member she’s writing letters to, the forced proximity and watching these characters create a life together.

I think I would have given it 5 stars if I had read it with my kindle versus audio. The male narrator (who does a fantastic job) just didn’t fit the character for me. Our female narrator was perfect. Great romance read.

Caveat: I would have totally read this book either way because I am a huge fan of Devney's work, but I am not a huge fan of the surprise baby trope. With that being said, as far as surprise baby tropes go, this one was done well. I love how supportive Jax was through the whole ordeal. I also think Jax has the patience of a saint to put up with Sasha's constant push back and denial of his well meaning overtures. I did like Sasha but felt like she kept secrets from Jax unreasonably and they could have gotten together much sooner but I digress.

Overall I think this book is well written, the steamy scenes are fantastic and the heartwarming moments were endearing. Great second book in this series and I can't wait to read the next one, I'm just wondering who the next couple will be as I see two potential contenders!!

The audio narration done by Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson was done wonderfully and they voiced their parts perfectly.

this was a really cute and quick read! i enjoyed Jax in the Crossroads and was too impatiently waiting for his own book, especially hearing it was a surprise pregnancy and they were angsty and in a spat at the end of book 1. but oh, I especially loved him in this one. he was WEAAAAK my Sasha. and they were adorable together. I admit, the whole Eddie plot was really weird with how secretive it was basically 90% of the book. I feel like it should've been included more, maybe some actual in depth backstory or something to connect more with Sasha, and even Eddie at that point. it did have me wondering who the heck he was though, I had two thoughts and one was right! all in all, I definitely enjoyed this and was smiling so much throughout this and recommend for any small town romance lovers that like the surprise pregnancy trope!

“Tell me a lie”
“Tell me a secret”

Who knew trying to steal a shopping cart would leave with the happiest little love story. Being back in Haven Ranch made me so happy.

Accidental pregnancy trope was done so well. Cowboy. He falls first. Trauma bonding. HEA. The list goes on. The end of that epilogue though…. 😍

The communication wasn’t complicated. They were patient. They overcame dark moments - together. They bonded. The chemistry was radiating off the pages and I am grateful to now know Jax more and be introduced to Sasha.

Beautifully done.
