Firstly, I need to thank the author @christymckellen, the publishers @theboldbookclub and @netgalley for allowing me to read an arc of this fantastic book.

This is my first book from Christy, but it will most definitely not be my last. This book starts quite differently to most books I've read recently as it jumps straight in with the steamy stuff and then follows up with the romance. This actually made a refreshing change.

I really like the main character Lulu, she a quiet steady woman who decides to have a night of reckless abandon but this turns round and well and truly bites her in the ass. Thankfully, she knows her worth and when her new boss works out he has fired the wrong person, she doesn't make it easy on him to get her to come back.

Solid 3 star book, was a nice easy read, I just felt the characters fell a little short especially the MMC. Tristian was more like a real life man than the fictional prince charming you hope for when reading these books and I found that a little bit disappointing. I loved the overall plot and the writing style was great other than the MMC but that is just my personal taste.

Would definitely read another book by this author .

Radio deejay Lula’s one-night stand turns out to be her new boss. Executive Tristan is only in London temporarily, but his undeniable attraction to Lula complicates his plans

This rom-com-ish novel is light-hearted with flawed characters who frequently make questionable decisions. The romance is largely driven by physical attraction.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received This is my honest and voluntary review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC of About Last Night, in exchange for an honest review.

"'About Last Night' by Christy McKellen is a quick, easy and enjoyable read. The story revolves around Lula Lazenby, a radio DJ facing the possibility of losing her job due to workplace harassment. The unexpected twist comes when Lula hooks up with a stranger, only to discover that he is none other than the boss's son, Tristan. The book explores power dynamics and love-at-first-sight themes as they navigate their professional and romantic relationship.

While the book promises potential with its premise, it falls short of fully realizing it. The insta-love aspect within the story, where Lula and Tristan confess their love within weeks of knowing each other, feels rushed and lacks depth. Though the characters briefly touch upon more profound subjects such as childhood, these conversations are fleeting and fail to leave a lasting impact.

Additionally, Tristan, as the male lead, initially hints at being a cinnamon roll MMC but ultimately does not live up to the archetype. His handling of certain situations leaves much to be desired, straying away from the endearing and gentle qualities typically associated with cinnamon roll characters.

, 'About Last Night' is an entertaining read that could have been elevated with a deeper exploration of its themes and more well-rounded character development. While it falls short of its potential, it still provides a light and enjoyable escape into the world of Lula and Tristian."
3.5 Stars. Worth a read!

About Last Night by Christy McKellen

Blurb

Keeping it strictly professional...

Radio DJ Lula Lazenby isn’t often lost for words, but this time she’s speechless! The man she just shared an exquisite one night with turns out to be her new boss…and his first job is to fire her!

Executive Tristan Bamfield wasn’t planning to stay in London long. Turn up, handle his father’s business and leave. But his inconvenient and instantaneous attraction to Lula has really gone and complicated things!

Tristan is a professional and everyone deserves a second chance – especially when you can’t escape the red-hot memories so he quickly reinstates Lula. Until that leads to weeks of tantalizing torture working with Lula in the studio. Tristan’s not here for a happy ever after, but his challenge now is going to be figuring out how to keep their off-the-charts attraction under wraps until it’s time to leave.

Previously published as Fired By Her Fling.

My Opinion

Well, this was an entertaining read. At less than 200 pages this was a relatively quick read and it was just so easy to keep turning the pages. Christy McKellen has written a light-hearted book. Lula has recently complained about her boss, so when the owner of the radio station gets involved, she begins to fear for her job. Will Tristan make the right call? The interactions between Lula and Tristan certainly made for an interesting read.

Rating 4/5

There was so much promise in this story that I was eager to read it but I felt like the light hearted stuff just didn’t blend well with the more serious themes. I am all for a little humor when things get heavy but it felt like it just didn’t mesh well. Lula was amazing and I felt like the story just didn’t do her enough justice. I felt like her relationship with Tristan needed a little more depth to it. Like it was right there on the edge but for some reason it just didn’t tip over.

Tristan left me unsure. I liked him but I wasn’t rooting for him if that makes sense. He was a good character but again I just felt as though there needed to be a little more. That said, if you are looking for a quick and light-hearted romance read then this is certainly the book for you. It’s not a bad book. For me I just needed a little more.

I really liked this book!

After having sex with her boss, Lula is fired. By the guy she had a one night stand with the previous night.

Quite a way to start the book. Both characters are well written and you can understand both sides of the story.

Tristan discovers the boss, Jez, was stealing money from the radio station and fires him. He soon figures out that Lula is the only one experienced enough to take over.

His attempts to win her back are the sweetest and completely proofs he was paying close attention to her.

Now they have to work together to save the station, without giving into temptation again.

If they are able to resist, you will have to read for yourself and I would highly recommend that you do!

I loved the interaction between the characters and the banter made me giggle. The writing style has such an easy flow that it felt like I was speeding through the book.

A short, cute, steamy romance. Perfect for a quick weekend read. It is a lighthearted book with some spicy scenes.

Lula is stressed, so what better way to relieve her stress than to go out for drinks with her friends, and project the persona she wishes she was with a one-night stand?

But when your one-night stand is the owner's son, of the radio station you work for, and the person investigating your claim for sexual harassment it doesn't look good.

I loved the characters of Lula and Tristan and how Tristan was on his own journey of healing from a past relationship and Lula was teaching him not to make the same mistake again.

This was also a well-thought-out narrative and things fell into place; especially for how bad it looked for Lula, I understand the reason why the decision was made.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.

I love a book with none cringe spice and this one fit the bill. It did slow down for the last two chapters, but it going of been the fact it was 2 am.

This book was cute! I loved the radio station setting and both characters were fun and sweet. I will say I’m so shocked that in 2024, we still are using finding out someone is introverted as a major breakthrough plot line.

The book About Last Night by Christy McKellen begins with Radio DJ Lula celebrating her friend's birthday in a pub in the company of her best friend. But she is stressed because her job is in jeopardy since her boss at the radio station she works at wants her fired because of the favors she has denied him. She decides to have a drink or two to drown her sorrows, and her friend urges her to approach a guy, which she does. And that's how she meets Tristan Bamfield, who is in town to solve a problem in his father's company, then leave. He has just come from a failed relationship and is not ready for another one, but he can't keep his eyes off Lula. They start off as strangers who find themselves attracted to each other, and maybe things have started on the wrong foot. But they meet later in the same radio station, and who knows what will happen next? Find out in this book About Last Night by Christy McKellen.

The plot is great, with the consistency of the story being the most outstanding thing I liked about the book. The detailed description in terms of expressions and reactions of the characters makes the readers get absorbed in the story as though they are part of it. The characters are impressive too; I like them a lot.

I don't like the steamy part of the book appearing at the beginning of the book; I feel that it may make the reader's anticipation of the climax of the plot diminish. Also, as the story is very intriguing, I found it to be quite short.

I rate this book About Last Night by Christy McKellen 4 out of 5 stars for the above reasons.

I recommend it to those readers who love steamy romance books with a workplace romance setting. The readers will enjoy this one immensely.

This was a quick short read. That’s probably why there wasn’t so much character build and more of an insta love. The characters were already in love after a few weeks of knowing each other. It was pretty enjoyable but I won’t say that I’ll remember this book next month.
If you’re looking for a quick, office romance with spice and banter then this would be the book for you!

This was a quick and easy read. I wish it would have held my attention like I thought it would, but it didn't. I think the reason is because I'm not a huge fan of instalove, and they were throwing around the word "love" very fast. That's the only reason why I rated it a 3 ☆. The spice was on point, and I enjoyed that a lot.

This was a cute, easy, fast read. Radio DJ Lula Lazenby may be losing her job after she complained that her boss wouldn’t give her the Breakfast show when she wouldn’t sleep with him. She goes out with her co-workers the night before the meeting with the big boss and hooks up with a hottie. One problem, the big boss sent his son, and his son is the hottie she hooked up with. Tristian was supposed to get in and get out of London, but now he’s staying at the radio station. And working along side Lula proves to be difficult when she wants to keep it professional. He won’t be here forever, but he can’t seem to fight his attraction.

This is an enjoyable light read. The book had potential to be a lot more than that, but it didn’t take it one step further. I gave this book three stars for that, and because I really don’t care for insta love. Within a few weeks they were saying I love you to each other. I know there are some people that do that, and that’s fine. But in this book, everything seemed to be based off attraction. There were a few scenes where they talked about other things, deeper things like childhood, but the characters would have one small conversation about it, and then it was like it never happened.

I really love cinnamon roll MMCs and Tristian wasn’t really that. He started to be a little bit, but he fell short. He didn’t handle things well. I guess that’s reality, right? Not all men are cinnamon roll MMCs. However, this is a book and I want to get lost in a fictional male, not real life! Haha. I don’t know, I think I wanted more out of him. Then when we got more, it was way over the top.

So, this was cute. It was a quick read. The writing style was good. This would make a great palette cleanser book.

Radio DJ Tallulah Lazenby has essentially a one night stand with this hottie that she meets at a bar that she goes to with one of her coworkers. She has a big meeting the next day with the head honcho of the company she works for, Flash.
Well, it turns out that the hottie she hooked up with, Tristan, is the one who she ends up talking to. Tristan’s dad sent him in his place & Tristan tries to turn things around on Tallulah & act like she knew about him all along when she didn’t. He fires her but then realizes he made a terrible mistake and works hard to get her back at Flash.

“it's going to drive me crazy to never be able to have what I want.”
“I can't be your rebound woman, Tristan. I care
about you too much for that.”

The connection between Tallulah and Tristan is pretty much instant at the bar & it carries through the entire book. It could have been a lot more than what it was & that was a huge letdown for me. They were cute characters but I didn’t really see any character development or a plot either.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, & author for a copy of this digital arc in exchange for my review.

About Last Night by Christy McKellen is a fun and spicy romcom that hits all the right notes for a quick, enjoyable read. The story follows Lulu and Tristan, whose hilarious dynamic and undeniable chemistry make for an entertaining workplace romance. Lulu’s introverted personality clashing with her attempt to fit into a more outgoing lifestyle is relatable, while Tristan’s presence adds drama and charm. Though the story feels a bit rushed and lacks emotional depth, the witty banter and steamy moments make it worth the read. If you’re after a short, light-hearted romance, this one’s a great pick!
