I really enjoyed this book! It was fast paced and kept me interested throughout the whole plot. I thought it was a unique storyline and different from other psychological thrillers out there. The book was well written and I thought I had the twist figured out early on but I was wrong. I didn’t enjoy a lot of the characters except Mac, but mostly because they all seemed bitter and out for revenge, which was essentially important to the storyline. Overall, I liked the book and would read more by this author. Thank to you NetGalley and Bookoutore for this ARC!
The Other Couple by Triona Walsh is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into secrets, betrayal, and manipulation. With a unique plot line and complicated characters that will leave you thinking, what in the world?!?
I was initially very intrigued but I did find the first half of the book very long, feeling as though it didn’t go anywhere. It did start to pick up pace after the halfway mark, and then it left me guessing and questioning so much.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC!
Triona Walsh’s “The Other Couple” had an interesting premise to me. Finn and Alice are trying to have their first weekend away together as a couple. Finn and is the CEO of TobinTech and Alice is an employee for the company, based in Dublin. Alice is also quite a bit younger than Finn so this trip to a lighthouse B&B allows them to be out in public after dating for six months, but keeping it as private as possible in Dublin.
On their first evening at the lighthouse, Alice and Finn are surprised when Mac and Vivienne arrive and claim they have a reservation for the same weekend. Due to the late hour, Finn is inclined to let them stay until the morning when the reservation can be sorted out, but Alice is not happy.
As the weekend progresses, the reader knows that everyone has secrets and an agenda. This book is narrated by both Alice and Vivienne, usually in alternating chapters.
Since I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers, the twists weren’t all that surprising to me. However, it was a fast-paced and enjoyable read. The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but there was closure and answers were given.
Overall, I recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.
As an avid reader of thriller fiction, I am rarely truly surprised, but this book did just that. Whenever I thought I had it all figured out, a new wrinkle emerged to create a taut thriller right until the end. Alice journeys to a remote light house with her tech mogul boss/boyfriend to avoid prying eyes, but is that really the purpose of the trip? What secret is she hiding from Finn on this romantic weekend that is soon interrupted by an odd couple who show up late in the evening. They insist they are also booked into the light house and refuse to leave. It soon becomes apparent that all of the players have secrets and plans that unravel throughout the story leading to the dramatic conclusion you will not see coming.
What a thrilling experience it was to read this book. The characters are all so intriguing, each harboring their own secrets, which kept me completely hooked. It’s one of those stories where you’re kept in suspense until the very end, and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to see how everything would unfold.
The way the story hints at clues along the way is just brilliant. With the narrative shifting between different characters, there are plenty of surprising moments that reveal more about each person and the overall plot.
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this ARC.
The Other Couple by Triana Walsh, Alyssa and Finn can finally relax and be together and while settling in on their first night of their getaway it’s late when there’s a knock at the door. Finn goes to answer it and by the time Alyssa shows up he’s telling her these people have double booked and due to the inclement weather he invites them to stay in the guest room. Their names are Vivian and Mac and it seems Vivian takes an instant dislike to Alyssa for seemingly no reason. On the first night of their stay however Alyssa sees Vivian outside on the cliff acting like a crazy person but this will just be the first of many strange things Alyssa uncovers. It seems Vivian and Max intentions we’re always set on Finn but what the group doesn’t know it’s not just the ones in the lighthouse that are after the millionaire. Despite Finn being there target, before it’s over he will not be the one who needs saving. They say birds of a feather stick together in one of the birds wants to come home to roost. These are not likable nor honest people but boy does it make for an entertaining read. I have read all of Triana Walsh‘s books, I have a list of authors who is soon as I see their names without reading the summary I want to get the book and she is definitely one of them. I couldn’t believe that’s nice as Finn seemed so many would have it out for him and I don’t want to end the review without saying they have so many twist throughout this book but the ultimate twist blew my freaking mind! Oh I in no way saw that coming. This is a great book and one I definitely recommend. #NetGalley,#Bookoucher, #TrianaWalsh, #TheOtherCouple,
Alice and Finn are in a remote town at a lighthouse vacation rental for a weekend getaway. They need the remote location since Finn is Alice’s boss and if they are found out it could be bad for Finn’s career.
Just as they are getting settled on the first night the othet couple - Vivienne and Mac- show up claiming that they had thr lighthouse booked for the weekend.
With no other alternatives the two couples agree to share the lighthouse. But, something doesn’t seem right to Alice and she can’t wait for them to leave.
Slow paced and I never got invested in any of the characters.
It had a long build up before it reallt got going

Alice and Finn plan a weekend away at a lighthouse, a chance to spend quality some time together away from prying eyes. Finn is a highly level executive, a CEO of TobinTech, wealthy but handsome but he has fallen for a younger woman that is his employee, this would not be well thought of by those in his company.
But the first evening they are there, a knock on the door shocks them, who can this be when no one knows where they are? This sets the scene for the story with the arriving couple stating n that they also have a booking for these same days and they are able to prove to Alice and Finn that this is true.
So now they have a dilemma, the telephone service is minimal, and Alice is desperate to contact the booking company to have this resolved, she wants her weekend back with her lover. But Alice also feels that there is something quite off about this couple Mark and Vivienne, and she may be right. As the hours progress, she starts to get a terrible feeling that there may be more to this, and that Finn may be involved in some way.
Everyone here has secrets and that makes this is a good mystery and I became quite involved in the story, quite predictable but still enjoyable. That is until the end, I have never read a more rushed ending that unfortunately did not cut it for me at all and I was quite disappointed. There was a lot of potential for this to finish on a high note but unfortunately the author seemed to miss this opportunity.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.
What a twisty dramatic read!
This would have been a 5 star book had it not been so long winded. Some of the descriptions and monologues went on forever unnecessarily. I found myself skipping paragraphs to get somewhere! The first twist, had me rolling my eyes with the “how”. Definitely a little too unbelievable.
At first, I didn’t like any of the characters, but I will say that in the end I enjoyed Mac, Vivienne, Finn and Alice.
Other than those things, it was an atmospheric thriller that made me want to know more. So it is worth a read.
Are the secrets that the characters have really what they think they are? What additional secrets are they all still keeping? How are all of the characters lives intertwined way before the present? Interesting with its twists and turns, kept me guessing. I bit unrealistic, but definitely unique! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this opportunity!
It was supposed to be the perfect weekend. Just you, me… and my chance at revenge."
Did not expect any part of that ending!
But honestly, who doesn't love a good thriller based on revenge? I hadn't heard of this author before and will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.
It was a good story, easy to read and enough to keep you entertained. The perfect amount of mystery and crime mixed together
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing style and the author created an atmospheric and eerie setting. I was kept engaged throughout and loved the twist at the end. I’ll definitely look out for more books by this author in future.
I found this book to be too slow for an impatient reader like myself. It was okay but just didn't really grab me, I hope other readers enjoy it more.
This is a new to me author and I am so happy I gave her a chance. I think this is one of those books some will love and some will think is just OK. I loved it. Alice and Finn go away for a weekend to a B&B lighthouse. It is set on the shores of an isolated area where the sea and scenery is wild. The author describes the wind howling and the sea crashing. I felt like I was there. Well, Alice and Finn had barely settled in when there's a knock on the door. Vivienne and Mac show up. However, no one knows who they are. It seems the lighthouse was double booked for that weekend and neither couple will leave. Alice is furious that her coveted weekend away with Finn has been disrupted. She vows to call the rental agency in the morning, but to do that she needs to walk all the way down the road, as there is no phone service in the lighthouse. The landline doesn't work. The rental agency tells her she's basically out of luck as it will take 48 hours to resolve anything.
As all this is going on, we start to notice that Vivienne and Mac have secrets. For that matter, so do Finn and Alice. Everyone is suspect of something.... we just don't know what. The author did a wonderful job with the characters and the setting. I felt like I was right there. I would definitely read another book by her.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I highly recommend this twisty book.
Wow the entire time i was reading it (i WHIPPED through it in roughly 4 hours) my heart was pounding and i had so many theories and questions. if you love insanely well written and fast paced books with crazy plot twists and well developed, shady, and secretive characters - PLEASE READ THIS !!!!!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
I found this surprisingly romance-heavy read, so if you are a fan of romance novels with psychological twists then this book would be a perfect read for you.
Although a few small things early on stretched believability (for example if I found I was forced to share a house with strangers I would immediately move any personal items such as keys, pocket books and the like to my bedroom, and I would lock it when I was out, or make sure to have these items with me at all times) however it was a book that is hard to put down, due to the writing skills and the imagination of the author.
Walsh’s writing is evocative and precise, capturing the mood and atmosphere of the settings.
The plot is intricately woven, with multiple layers of mystery and suspense. Walsh skillfully balances the slow unraveling of secrets with moments of intense action, keeping the reader engaged. The pacing is well-managed, allowing for both character development and plot progression. .
The Other Couple is a compelling psychological thriller that will keep you guessing.
Finn and Alice rent out a lighthouse B and B for a romantic weekend. Vivienne and her Mac also show up and the couples butt heads. As the weekend goes out, hidden connections between the couples come out, as well as the older couple that lives next door. Everyone seems out to get Finn for some reason or another-for their own gain. It was slow moving for me, so I skimmed more than anything. There were def some twists I did not see coming. Was just ok.
This book sounded right up my street and I’m so glad I got to read it. Really gives your mind a workout trying to figure out what might be going on and the connections between all of the characters. It keeps you guessing and the character depth is just as good as the pacing and suspense. Plus, I really enjoyed the Irish setting and the imagery was written so well that I could vividly picture the surroundings.
I do however have issues with the ending and the abruptness of the resolution with essentially all being worked out and forgiven within one page? The only way to describe it is that it just felt rushed and this was disappointing for me and not in keeping with the rest of the story. I felt like the story took me on such a ride throughout and was setting me up for a standoff between Finn and Alice when her secrets/plan were to be revealed but instead it was almost brushed to the side in favour of a swift resolution and happily ever after. This isn’t an overwhelming criticism, it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment I had reading the book, but it definitely could have added some and left me more satisfied.
This is a smart, fast paced thriller that works really well. I liked the writing style and could really imagine the scenery throughout. It had all the usual twists and turns and it’s a good story overall.
